Manassas Park Republicans Left In The Cold

Are you a Republican in Manassas Park? Maybe you’re interested in having a voice in the nomination of a candidate for United States Senate, members of the State Central Committee, or just in the leadership of your local party unit? Well, if you are, tough noogies. You have no mass meeting, you will have no representatives to the state convention, and you will have no voice, just like at the Tenth District convention two years ago.
You see, in order to do any of these things, the Manassas Park Republican Committee has to have a mass meeting to select delegates. There is no mass meeting scheduled, just as there has not been a meeting of the Manassas Park Republican Committee in over a year. According to the Republican Party Plan, local units are required to meet at least quarterly, and anyone who fails to attend at least one meeting each quarter has their membership stricken from the rolls. Not even the putative chairman of this unit is a member in good standing, and it’s been this way for months.
Tenth District Chairman Jim Rich replaced the last chairman who didn’t hold meetings or bother to conduct party affairs with Bill Wren. Bill’s first decision was to violate the state party plan and decide he wouldn’t hold meetings. Now he’s apparently decided not to issue a call for a mass meeting for state conventions, or has just been to terrifically lazy to bother with doing so, and managed to freeze out all Republicans in this Virginia locality from having any voice whatsoever in Republican Party politics. Folks have been telling Tenth District Chairman Jim Rich that the park is defunct, and just as happened the last time when a unit chairman went AWOL, Jim Rich’s reaction was to do nothing for months on end, until he finally got pestered enough to finally relent, fire the dysfunctional unit chairman who was also rumored to be actively engaging in the production of child pornography, and replace him with an identically ineffective “Republican” from the same cabal that had delivered such stunning non-performance in the past.
I don’t know what is more outrageous. Is it that Jim Rich can’t manage his local party units and seems fine with handing local Democrats the keys to political dominance in a locality within the congressional district he leads, or that the only way to apparently get Jim Rich to replace an ineffective and counterproductive crony is to get folks talking about that crony being a purveyor of kiddie porn.
I sure hope this becomes an issue when folks start considering candidates for state central. None of the incumbent state central committee members as far as I can tell have ever even bothered to notice that Manassas Park is being ceded to the Democrats.
What a mess.

Forgive for posting off key, but I couldn’t resist the parallel without a voice in Manassas Park and the “victims” in Manassas, i.e., the lovely ladies of the night that are here illegally plying their trade. It seems that the media is giving these ladies a voice, so the Republicans may have to wait their turn to be heard:
Prostitutes Pose Challenge to County Initiative

MANASSAS, Va. - The new Prince William County initiative targeting crimes by illegal immigrants is posing special challenges when the crime is prostitution.
County police have said they will treat illegal immigrants who are criminals differently from those who are crime victims. However, some prostitutes could be both.
Authorities say prostitution rings catering to Hispanic immigrants often bring prostitutes to the county from out of state. Police have to determine whether the women chose to work as prostitutes or were coerced.
Under the initiative, officers with the new Criminal Alien Unit check the immigration status of suspects when there is probable cause to believe they are in the U.S. illegally. Victims and witnesses are not subject to the checks.

This may be related to Manassas being #15 on the state list of computer IP addresses trading in Child Pornography, btw, Woodbridge is #10, so we have two of the top twenty in the state of computer IP addresses trading/selling child porn videos and stills. Are any of the pWC police or Manassas police certified to do the child porn internet investigations?

in Manassas Park isn’t the Democrats, but inertia -
the Republicans, Democrats, and HSM have all tried
to light a fire there through the years, but have little
to show for it. The only “party plan” MP is interested
in is Tupperware - and then only with plenty of good eats
and free samples.

They can’t have a mass meeting in Manassas Park. People might come to it and actually voice their opinions and vote on things. Doing things that have any hint of democracy in Manassas Park is strickly prohibted.

I have no comment other than to say what I always say is that 80% of the park is illegal or Hispanic who in turn are aiding and abetting illegals. They are not interested in politics. They are only interested in working and sending money home, living in squalor and thumbing their noses at our laws and customs. As long as the town lets them be then they could care less what the politicians do. The ones who are US citizens that still live here now are probably more interested in how they are going to make their mortgages when their ARM resets, pay the ABSURD real estate taxes, and maintain their sanity while doing it to be bothered with which corrupt Republican politician is going to run for some obscure local position, who will no doubt try to jam his hand even deeper down their pockets than it already is. I have never in my life seen such apathy, disdain, and economic squalor as exists in this town. Every 3rd house for sale or in foreclosure, highest taxes in the state, rampant illegals, corrupt local leaders, and so forth. It really is a miracle that I haven’t snapped yet. I just wish there was a way to motivate and communicate with the 20% of the people left in this town who are actually eligible to be here legally. Anyone here now is here for the haul because there is no selling a home or moving from here now. This town has to be the hardest hit of any locality in the DC metro area during this economic crisis.
Manassas Republican Chair Tony Kostelecky and Jim Rich both invested considerable time into trying to fix the Manassas Park Party last year. The problem is, Party rules do not allow outsiders to run the local party. Jim Rich can replace the Chair, but he can’t take the Party over or name someone from outside of the Park to take over.
Ultimatly, someone inside the Park has to step up and run the Party. The problem is with the Republicans in Manassas Park, not Jim Rich.

Okay. Your comment is along the lines of the one I was going to make but I was not sure of the population figures so I backed off of my comment. You are correct, there are probably not enough Gringos left in MP to make a Republican (or even a Democrat) meeting meaningful.
My numbers are based on standing on a corner and counting the people that walk and drive by on many of my bike rides. The numbers the government give you will be bunk. You need to get out on the street and count the people you see. It has been about 8 months since I have done it, but last summer I would count high 70’s out of 100 would be Hispanic. This year maybe not. There has been a marked decrease in people in the park due to all the foreclosures and drop in real estate and construction. It’s a rough life being an illegal these days with everybody hating on you and no work to be found. I keep hoping that some decent folk will move back, but it looks like the town is turning into a rental haven for section 8 lowlifes.

In “05″ I was wondering why the MP Republican Committee didn’t have a website despite the chairman, Kevin Brendel, allegedly being quite familiar with computers.
hahah…that was a good one MP Resident. We need to R’s to bite the bullet and move in. I saw a bunch of houses up for auction this week with strting bids at $1,000.

Manassas is in Prince William County and Greg was speaking of Manassas Park, which is also contained within the confines of the county of Prince William.
Who should step up and lead the Manassas Park Republican Party? Is there not a citizen that is active in local politics, or another member of the City Council that will volunteer to hold this important office?
I think it would be best if it weren’t a current or past member of City Council that were to hold the chairman position. I have no confidence that they wouldn’t continue to run the committee in the same dysfunctional way it has been.

Virginia is unique among the states because cities are more or less county equivalents–that is, Prince William County does not exist inside Manassas Park City or Manassas City. The Federal Government considers cities in Virginia the same way they do counties.
The last election cycle, the three who ran as Republicans lost. The day jobs of many of the Governing Board have them running as independents due to the Hatch Act, from what I have been told, so I doubt there is anyone there.
The conservatives I know who I would peg as Republican want nothing to do with the party on a local level. I am actually curious to see if signs go in the front lawn for McCain, my conservative neighbors are so disgusted with the national party.
To all you Manassas Park Residents who have lived there for quite a while: What ever happened to Council woman Adelle Leech? She was a conservative Republican.

cities and NOT part of Prince William County. Virginia
is unique in that towns like Dumfries and
Haymarket are part of the county but not cities.

when the Wash po speaks of a Prince william problem that involves prostitution, coerced and voluntary, I do believe that they are speaking of the whole geographical area. Are you convinced that the ladies do not frequent the lovely localities of Manassas and Manassas Park? Considering the demographics, I think that the problem indicated by the Washington pOst covers all areas.
If you have information which would lead one to believe that those two “indipendent” localities are prostitution free, or at least “latino prostitutes free” than that evidence may help you in your argument. My statement however, was ironic and just pointed to the fact that the media will give voice to the plight of illegal aliens before that of citizens that may be of the Republican persuasion.
I think we can agree on that. And if not, then the irony is lost on you.

The name doesn’t sound familiar so I tried a nationwide search. Nothing came up. Is she perhaps in the witness protection program?
Council woman Adelle Leech (might have mispelled name. It’s been a long time ago) was on the Manassas Park City Council. She is a conservative Republican. I just would like to know where she is. It would be nice to see her lead the Republican Party in Manassas Park if she is still there.
She was on the Council during the late 80’s early 90’s.

are Independent Cities in Virginia has nothing to
do with “irony” or “latino prostitution” - it is a simple
fact. While Manassas, MP and PWC have much in
common, good and bad, they are, under Virginia law,
three different jurisdictions.
