Military action and terrorism are two different things.

I don't recall seeing a portrait of Washington or John Paul Jones wearing ski masks. Also, to the best of my knowledge, FDR did not own or wield a machete.

Bush? That's another story....

Inconsequential insect:

The clip is still up as far as I can tell.

You keep on telling us about how noble and laudible this anarchist-communist group is, and how somehow Western countries are hungry about the prospect of shipping water from Chiapas province in Southern Mexico. Oil, yes. Hydropower, perhaps. Coffee, definitely. But water? You are out of your mind. That's about as economical as mining ice in Antarctica.

By all means continue to wax poetic about the Zapatista Army of National Liberation and SubCommandante Marcos. I'm sure the electorate will just eat it up.

The Zapatistas are incredible...they have created their own government in their part of the country which gives the people a legitimate, valid voice....everyone participates.

However, western countries are very interested in obtaining the water resources on Zapatista lands....so hopefully they will be able to continue their lives with little outside interference but it doesn't look likely.

It's ridiculous any thought of the poor Zapatistas wanting to invade the USA....chuckle....However, there are quite a few Americans who are studying their political system and hoping it will be useful in creating better local governments here in the USA....The Zapatistas are extremely democratic.

sorry I couldn't see the film clip...it has been taken down.

buzz...buzz...

EL Guapo "But yes, the success of military action is limited especially when you have to fight against U.S. provided arms as did the Zapatistas, the Sandinistas and many others."

I've heard from legal Hispanic immigrants that these groups have been threatening a revolution against the U.S. government and our citizens.
Let that be a lesson to you, and for Americans, protect your second amendment rights.

and what every foreign leader needs to do truth be told, is kiss the pink behind of the Republican leadership in the USA even if you have to hold your nose and take a bottle of Dramamine.

And where does that put Bill (the panderer) Richardson?

Washington, John Paul Jones, FDR, Bush and Bush used military action to accomplish their respective objectives. I've never heard Parker say that maybe we should have talked with Hitler. Maybe we could have talked him out of his quest for world domination. Maybe he would have understood why genocide was wrong. Why the double standard?

The original Zapatistas originated in a small town south of Mexico City. For decades they petitioned the government to have some of their land returned to them. After military action, they got their land back.

The Tzotzil and Tzeltal also used nonviolent action to obtain property rights among other things. They were ignored. One day of military action in 1994 got the attention of the government. The government invested more in education in the state and pledged to improve the security of property rights.

But yes, the success of military action is limited especially when you have to fight against U.S. provided arms as did the Zapatistas, the Sandinistas and many others. What they should have done, and what every foreign leader needs to do truth be told, is kiss the pink behind of the Republican leadership in the USA even if you have to hold your nose and take a bottle of Dramamine. Now genuflecting at the feet of Republican leadership is not going to improve anything unless it's in the best interest of the US to help. But not doing so will guarantee failure.

Apparently they think that military action will solve their problems. That's foolish, violence begets violence. Someone needs to tell them about how nonviolent action has been successful in the past and even thought it's counter intuitive it should be studied and practiced.
