This pertains more to Northern VA but includes PWC and may be of interest.

A few weeks ago, "Service Magic's Little Black Book" was mailed to thousands of homes in DC Metro Area. It is a listing of "Washington, DC's Top-Rated Home Improvement Contractors."

The Website, Contact and 800 number are:

www.servicemagic.com
conscustomerservice@servicemagic.com
1-800-Contractor

---------------

I contacted several of the contractors in this "little black book" expressing an interest in their services and also asked if they were members of the Northern VA contractors who signed the pledge to implement E-Verify and hire only American Workers.

Apparently none of these contractors wanted my business if they were required to sign the pledge, and one was quite outraged that I would make such an unreasonable request.

My point for this post: there are 160 "rated" home improvement professionals listed in this "little black book" and, if any of them are complying with state and federal employment laws, they aren't telling anyone.

Rating a business IMHO goes beyond a (paid) advertisement in a "little black book" from an unknown source.

If a business does not comply with state and local hiring laws, I have to question how many other shortcuts they are taking when they are working on a job. This shakes my confidence!

---------

It may be I was the only one to contact any of these contractors. Maybe they need more "inquiries" to take this seriously.

I encourage anyone who is considering contract work to encourage them to add their business to the list.

Dave in PWC said on 5 Apr 2008 at 12:23 am:
Looks like Fairfax better build some more soccer fields…......

Gerry is doing us no favors by laying out the Welcome Mat for the fleeing PWC illegal aliens.

With a mega million dollars budget shortfall, legal residents are taking a closer look at our budget and many don't like some of the numbers they see.

They are starting to ask questions that make the Board and Gerry a little uncomfortable. Some of our supervisors are so arrogant they are replying with comments easily interpreted to mean, "you voted for us, live with it!"

Of greatest concern, Gerry continues to publically proclaim Fairfax County does not have a problem with illegal aliens. He refused to implement 287(g) and relies solely on a woefully inadequate State Police database. When asked how the State Police database serves the community when an illegal alien is detained with outstanding warrants from another state, he sputters and changes the subject. During the past few years, Gerry has become quite proficient at supputtering and changing the subject - with many topics.

Hey, Ted,

What happened to all of the Asians, African-Americans, Pacific Islanders, etc. in your ridiculous scenario? Did they all get deported, too?

Substitute any of the above for "white" in your posting, and you'll see how hate-filled and racist your attitude is. In case you haven't noticed, PWC is much more diverse than just "Latino" and "white" and most of us like it that way.

Play the race card, and you lose. We're not buying it. We're talking about law-breakers here.

Glad to hear the neighborhoods are recovering from the overcrowding and that people are starting to walk about without worrying about being hassled as they enjoy the day.

I still see a bunch of kids at the bus stops coming from the apts up the hill from me, but it's not 40 kids waiting on the bus, it's now more like 25 and they are no longer watering our bushes or climbing on our fence since one of PWCPD's finest is watching the bus stop a few mornings a week out in plain view so all can see.

Teddy,

at least if you mention the word "professional" we have no worries of you moving here!

you fail to realize that as the illegals move and more affluent people take their places (as all the crappy places are bulldozed) then taxes and everything else will not be a worry. Also, as for the police, teachers, etc...less illegals = less crime, less ESOL, etc...

Hey , all you Prince William County haters ! What a great concept to attract all those home buyers of foreclosed property ! “Prince William County Virginia, where the only crime of the future will be by white racist criminals “….Sure to attract lots of tax paying business. By the way,…how are you going to pay for your schools, teachers , police , firefighters , health services (especially for your elderly, because not many intellegent young professionals would consider the option of locating there), parks , environmental controls, trash pick-up, county road up keep, animal shelter, funding of county retirement ? ,….not to mention funding county building maintenance , school bus fleet , police car fleet , building inspection, restaraunt inspection..(oh,…. that’s right…fewer of those to inspect…out of business…due to mass emigration…..no pun intended,…my bad)…without raising your property and other taxes?…YES!
Locate to Prince William County , where there will only be white crime and BIG taxes!!!!!!

Greg, it's for sure that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so
be proud, my friend, for all you've done and continue to do for your
community. I've gone back over some of the comments posted on
your blog and must say that I'm shocked that a lot of your faithful
bloggers aren't more pro-active in your defense, especially when it
had to do with Chief Deane and his bulliness. Even "Good Time Charlie"
didn't come through. In addition, I don't understand why you think you
owe anyone who clicks onto this blog an apology....you certainly don't!
I'm not one to express my thoughts via a blog, but dammit, I just had
to let you know how I feel.

you are so right, many of the latino's in my neck of the woods are splitting and it's surreal, they leave in the middle of the night like burglars or something, I really dont get why they cant move during the day when most people are awake.

When my latino neighbors bailed on their house because they couldnt afford it I had to call the cops on them because they were making too much damn noise at 2am.

it's strange out there, I went to walmart today and saw far fewer latino's there. The 7-11 on route 1/parkway still has people there but fewer. all in all, I think they are splitting town and I'm happier for it.

as someone mentioned before...head them up and move them out!!

I’ve seen my neighborhood changing from what looked a lawless third world country to a neighborhood that is family friendly and beginning a renaissance.”

You are absolutely correct Patty. I live in the Sudley area and believe me there has been a great change in the past few months. Very seldom see the bicycle brigades or the carriage caravans heading for K-Mart. It will only get better. Keep the pressure on! Viva the resolution!

Prince, it is true what Patty says - I live 1 1/2 blocks from her. We have an amazing turn around in Westgate since the illegal aliens are leaving. Thank you Help Save Manassas!

Head em up and move em out. Another Latino put a for sale sign up today in my neighborhood. Expect them to move in the middle of the night. Many more ARMS kick in 1 May to expect to see a great deal more hitting the road.

Why no, Benton, they didn't invite us to look at it. After reading the article in WaPo, I decided to go check it out.
