I have a feeling that the hysterical housewives and the viagra dpendent dudes over at the anti-doesn’t-matter site will show up to push to have the resolution rescinded. They say they are for 287g, but their comments and actions don’t bear this out. This crowd bears watching. They have plotted and schemed over their chardonay and brie, and now they are ready to take it to the streets. If you believe that the resolution was the right thing to do, and the cost to implement is worth spending to achieve the benefits we are starting to see, you should show up and say so at citizen’s time.

Honest question for Greg L. You often mention that MWB is supported by a number of militant groups with a history of violence. We know that a criminal element permeates the illegal immigrant community (although, I know that not all illegal immigrants are criminals, other than the obvious.)

Considering your leadership role (and success) in the anti-illegal immigrant movement, do you ever worry about your personal safety and security?

I simply put my trust in God, as well as the ability He has blessed me with to quickly and accurately put rounds in the center of mass of a target.

I’ve dealt with gang-bangers and thugs before. Back in early 2006 I intervened to stop two assaults on pedestrians on Copeland Drive and ran off groups of between four and six young thugs who were “performing” for a gaggle of girls who seemed to be impressed that it took a team of knuckleheads to beat up a lone unarmed pedestrian. There have been several prior instances where I helped out someone being attacked, so I’ve been in harms way before and gotten some experience.

I’ve found that criminals are cowards. As long as they have an escape route, as soon as someone confronts them they scatter like cockroaches. I’ve only had to lay hands on a thug a couple of times when they were determined to continue an assault on some innocent victim, and as soon as you peel them off, they hightail it out of there. Nothing seems to frighten them more than someone they cannot intimidate.

The Lord has been covering my back for a while now. He is my sure defense.

    Part of the solution:

Since so many illegal aliens come here and work in construction, building a plethora of various sized retirement villas for the nuevo-riche, why not have retirement villages built in Mexico, instead?

Right now, corrupt Mexico does not allow Norte Americanos to buy land in their country. You only can get a 99 year lease from one of their land barons.

If this policy was changed, so that compounds for American retirees could be created in Baja, that would be secure from Mexican government corruption and bribery, then millions of U.S. citizens could enjoy retirement in Mexico, just as some still do in Florida and Puerto Rico.

Building the retirement compounds would create thousands of jobs in Mexico, thereby reducing the incentive to migrate to El Norte to do the same work. Of course the pay in Mexico would likely be less, but it would allow the Mexican workers to live among his own family and not incur the risks and expense of paying a coyote to ship him up to places like D.C.

Mexico is a beautiful country, it just suffers from lousy management by the descendants of the Conquistadors and their sycophants.

Viva Mexico! Viva USA! Together, we can work this out and find a win-win solution. We have a growing population of aged people, they have lots of undeveloped or misused waterfront property.

Mexico has nothing to offer this country but it’s impoverished and uneducated citizens. Somewhere over 20 billion (WITH A B) dollars are sent back to Mexico in the form of wire transfers. Mexico depends upon them and will go to great lengths to keep them coming. Mexico would be the last place in this world I would look to build a house and retire. The drug lords run the country and the gringo is an easy target. It is past time for Mexico to take care of it’s own. They talk the talk but don’t walk the walk (and never will.)

    An excerpt from http://www.movermike.com/immigration/
Look at the chart re February’s foreclosures. PWC leads the pack.

One county that has seen a significant exodus of illegal aliens recently is Prince William County in Northern Virginia. The situation is decribed by an article in the Washington Post:
By and large, those [foreclosed] properties are concentrated in lower-priced areas and Zip codes where many immigrants bought homes in recent years, often with subprime mortgages and other risky arrangements that required little down payment or documentation. In Northern Virginia and especially Prince William, many buyers were Hispanic immigrants…. ….several … real estate specialists in Northern Virginia estimate that 70 to 80 percent of foreclosure cases they see involve Hispanic families…. Real estate agents say the foreclosure crisis in Prince William has been exacerbated by local authorities’ efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants….

The next round needs to be aimed at the PWC SB. The taxes/appropriations for the school board are a not-insignificant-chunk of the RE levies.

In a time when other countries are kicking our butts and turning out a better qualified product, the PWC SB now has a multicultural guru/dept? When did THIS happen? We need to get “back to basics” and concentrate on the skills that will make our kids competitive for the techie generation. When you compare the quality of ed in PWC to some other countries, we are seriously behind.

Now that belt-tightening time is here, then EVERYONE needs to revisit their budgets and take a good, hard look at where and what they are spending. If I have to cut back and prioritize so should the SB. I don’t see how supporting a feel-goody guru or a host of other PC policies will help make our kids competitive. I guess it’s time to start showing up at budget meetings, but they are never very well advertised.

Re, How to civilians get to the Quantico gun club (from the gun club site), Marine sentries will assist visitors arriving at the base; visitors are issued vehicle passes and given directions to their destination. Proper identification, such as a state driver’s license, is required to get onto base.

Inform the Marine sentry that you wish to go to the Quantico Shooting Club. (Ensure your firearms and magazines are unloaded and properly stored). After proceeding throught the checkpoint, continue on MCB-1 for approximately 3 miles (you will pass a supply point on the right and a fire station on the left). You will see the Quantico Shooting Club sign and the clubhouse on your right.

After Mirza donated $1000 to U.S. Rep. Andre Carson (D-Indiana) on 2/8/08, Carson returned the money on 2/20/08, saying that Mirza didn’t “reflect the values of the campaign.”

Care to elaborate? PWCS is the second largest school system in Virginia (trailing only Fairfax County in size) and PWCS is about 56.75% of the budget.

What’s that translate to? The *lowest* per pupil spending in the metro Washington area, some of the lowest teacher salaries in the metro Washington area, and seriously overcrowded schools because new school construction has not kept pace with population changes in the county. Teacher turnover alone costs nearly $900,000 per year. Why are many teachers leaving? Better salaries in nearby jurisdictions (especially for mid-career teachers–you know, the ones who really know what they’re doing and haven’t burned out yet–the ones you *don’t* want to lose). That said, the county schools’ test scores are actually very competitive (behind other districts in SATs but equal or ahead when it comes to AYP and closing the achievement gap under NCLB). Administrative and school board costs are about 44% *lower* than the national average. More than 86 cents of every dollar spent on the schools goes to instruction.

Comparing to other countries is sometimes deceiving. Very few countries have the same levels of compulsory public education we have in the US. In some countries, the scores are artificially skewed high simply because less intelligent children just don’t get schooling–schools are reserved for specific classes of students. Special education may be non-existent or is the responsibility of private, charitable schools that don’t get included overall assessments. All of this leads to smaller class sizes and, often, better paid teachers–both things that would cost us more, not less, money if we were to try to mimic their “success” here.

So, where would suggest this tremendous “belt tightening” beyond what’s already been done and how do you suggest “belt tightening” takes place without having any impact on the quality of the schools? Really think eliminating the multicultural department will have a huge impact? The staff and expenses for the multicultural department cost less than what teacher turnover alone costs.

I have yet to talk to a teacher that has left PWC because they were frustrated with “unnecessary fluff” and “multiculturalism.” For most, the single most important factor for leaving was the better salary offered by a neighboring jurisdiction. Oh, and Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Loudoun, Fauquier, Stafford, and Alexandria schools all have multicultural departments, so teachers leaving PWCS for those districts certainly aren’t doing so to escape the “fluff.”

You measure the dollars that actually go in to the classroom. Not enough of our tax dollars make it that far in PW. Why? Overpaid and overstaffed administration, and overspending. I agree that teachers need to earn competitive wages, and retention is important.

General Assembly should mandate no less than 65% go to the classroom.

    K. O’toole - Thanks for the link: http://sancarlosmx.mywowbb.com/forum1/3291.html

I was not referring to availability of full care/ assisted living facilities, but that is a related topic.

What I was offering was about having land made available for individuals and community developers by the Mexican government, so that the construction workers from Mexico, could work in Mexico and build independent living houses and condominiums in Baja, and in other parts of Mexico.

I think that by allowing outside ownership of land, Mexico could finally attract the capital it needs to properly grow its economy. This would be beneficial to those who move there and to those Mexicans in the building trades who could remain in their home country for what would be well paying careers.

As for the “Anonymous” post much later in the thread. what you wrote was incoherent. Perhaps there is a language problem, but nothing in my original post had anything to do with what you wrote.

Providing a way for outside capital to be invested in a country does not mean a loss of sovereignty. In this case, it provides the clearest path for Mexico to join the modern, developed world.

If anyone has alternative ideas that will help mitigate the illegal alien problem, while helping provide needed homes and jobs, then speak-up, and don’t be afraid to put your real name on your proposed solutions.

    Ari Stotle:

Please, please, please read my original post more carefully. You say that 65% should go into the classroom. In PWCS, over 86% goes into the classroom (i.e., more than 86 cents of every dollar goes to instruction, as stated in my first post). So, the GA can mandate all it wants. PWCS already far exceeds that (relatively low) threshold. And again, administrative and school board costs in PWCS are 44% lower than the national average.

You can talk about bloated and overpaid administrative staffs all you want, but that’s just not the reality in PWCS.

    AWC:
The surrounding counties may not have specific departments labelled “Office of Multiculturalism” (and there isn’t actually an office with that name in PWCS), but they do all have staff that are tasked with developing multicultural awareness, providing professional development on multiculturalism, etc.

    COM:
Fosters all the way. I’ll take a charburger over a burger cooked on a griddle any day of the week. Add to that the more diverse menu at Fosters and it’s a no brainer. Have you tried Catfish Lewie’s in Haymarket? I was sorry to see the chips go. Don’t get me wrong, I love handcut fries, but the chips at Catfish Lewie’s were awesome!

“If you do not have a lock on your outside AC fuse box, you may want to put one on today! We just discovered that our entire module was lifted the other night. Probably stolen for the copper. It’s a $500 replacement.”

Guess it depends on the particular model but there isn’t that much copper in the ones I’ve seen and they generally cost between $15 and $30 for a replacement, although who knows how much an electrician would charge to replace it. (I could do it in less than an hour and I’ve never done one before, if that gives you some idea of what it ought to cost to get it replaced)

    http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=ac+disconnect&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf

Even so, it’s probably worthwhile to put a lock on it just to keep some prankster from stealing the pull-out, because those can be next to impossible to obtain a replacement for, necessitating replacement of the WHOLE BOX.

Speaking of things to watch out for:

One thing I heard about from one of my co-workers is that he lived in an apartment building in Fairfax somewhere and one day he got his phone bill with lots of calls to El Salvador and Columbia on it. He thinks one of his neighbors tapped into his line.

You might consider slapping a lock on your telephone network interface (there’s a nice RJ11 test jack inside so someone needn’t even be that knowledgeable to connect to your line) but that isn’t going to stop someone with a wrench from opening the “telco access only” side and gaining access to it.

Given that, you should probably call your long-distance company and disallow international calls or do what I do and simply not have long distance service at all and use a calling card. (I think you save a few bucks on taxes a month by doing that, too).

What brought this up is I mentioned to him that two years ago I was having a problem with my line and when I went to go look inside the network interface, the telco access only side had been busted open and the ground wires disconnected from it. I don’t think Verizon did that. I don’t know who did. I reconnected the wires and nobody has messed with it since. I wonder if someone was trying to make long-distance calls from my line in that box and when they couldn’t, they somehow thought disconnecting the ground wire might make it work.

Another thing to watch out for: License plate sticker theft.

This happened to me once and it happened to my brother.

    To prevent it:

When you put a new sticker on, try to scrape off as much of the old sticker as possible, then use some alcohol to clean the remains so it’s good and clean so the new sticker adheres well. Then take a razor blade and make a minimum of 5 cuts horizontally and 5 cuts vertically so that anyone who tries to steal the sticker will only get it in small pieces.

That would be us. We have to replace the entire box.

7/11 hang out updates - this morning, Tuesday the 8th.
5:50 am ZERO job stealers at Maplewood and Old Centreville Road
6:15 am ONE job stealer sitting on “the rock” and ONE hiding on the
right side of the building at Coverstone. Total of 2.
6:30 am ZERO job stealers at Old Centreville Rd and at the Hi-Mart on same.
I have seen alot of police presence (sp?) in this neighborhood lately.

I truly feel so much better about going into these businesses now. Let’s
make an effort to patronize the Coverstone 7/11 as long as there are no
    job stealers hanging around outside.

I bet I get some grief calling them job stealers. Here’s a quarter…..

Che, lay off Krustis with the rude remarks. Disagree with her if you will, as I generally do, but how about some civility while you do it!

    Turn Blue,

We went to Catfish Louie’s a few time when it first opened, but have not been back for a while. The chips were OK…. I like their fries better.

I think a Foster’s burger and five guy fries would be hard to beat.

    MCR,

Sorry to hear about the theft at your house. It is amazing what folks will do these days.

Anyone know what’s happening with the Manassas City band teacher who was arrested on sex crimes? Will he go to trial?

    Just curious.

    MadMom,

Thanks for the update on the job stealers.

I questioned the contractor doing painting work around our complex about whether his workers were legal and he hemmed and hawwed and I asked him about whether they filled out I-9 forms and he gave me a look and left. Not much painting got done around here. I’m sure I’ll be getting an email or phone call from the property manager.

Vigilant1 mentioned 20 BILLION in wire transfers from the US to Mexico and other latin amarican countries. Let’s tax them at 10% (with a rebate on your tax return to help legal US citizens) and use the $2 Billion a year in revenue to fight illegal immigration.

Greg how do we champion this??
