Addressing Illegal Alien Crime At The Local Level

By Greg L | 9 April 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime, Prince William County | 7 Comments

The Potomac News is reporting that a grand jury has indicted Anastacio Sanchez-Miranda on two counts of capital murder, three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and seven counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, in what was the most horrific case of illegal alien crime in Prince William County in 2007.  Of course the Potomac News doesn’t mention that Sanchez-Miranda is an illegal alien from Mexico or that the murders he committed sufficiently added to overall carnage of illegal alien crime in the county such that illegal aliens were responsible for a majority of the murders committed that year.  I would charitably presume that since this story is simply crime reporting, and the immigration status of Sanchez-Miranda wasn’t considered relevant.  That discussion isn’t only relevant to the community however, it’s critical.

The policy implications that this and other cases of illegal alien crime are hugely important to the ongoing public debate about what Prince William County should be doing about the illegal alien issue, however.  In addition to the triple-homicide by Sanchez-Miranda the murders committed by Christian Molina, an illegal alien from El Salvador, and another by Jose Martinez-Zeron make at least five of the nine murders in Prince William County in 2007 attributable to illegal aliens.  If the federal government was doing it’s job of securing our borders and removing illegal aliens, these murders would not have happened, making these crimes one-hundred-percent preventable.

Yet clearly the federal government is not doing it’s job, nor is there any reason to suspect it will any time soon.  In the face of this disturbing public safety problem, state and local government are left to address the issue.  Local government can wash their hands of the problem and tolerate the lawlessness that unfortunately seems to go hand-in-hand with illegal immigration, alleging that crime by illegal aliens is just another cost to bear in order to obtain a diverse society, such as is the case in Fairfax and Arlington.  Or local elected officials can step up and address this public safety issue by ensuring that when an illegal alien commits a crime, law enforcement will aggressively prosecute not only the state or local crime, but the violation of federal immigration laws as well.

Christian Molina has a long record of interactions with local law enforcement prior to his brutal slaying of Ronald Hollingsworth after misunderstanding the term “homo sapien” to mean “homosexual”.  Jose Martinez-Zeron killed a young woman the day after he was released from custody for driving without a license and identity fraud. This same pattern of frequent low-level crime prior to an unbearable tragedy is repeated with the illegal alien who killed two young Virginia Beach residents last spring after numerous interactions with local law enforcement and the revocation of his non-existent drivers license by a judge.  The “catch and release” of low-level criminal illegal aliens demonstrably endangers public safety, and elected officials that take their oaths of office seriously are attempting to address this.  Unfortunately, the number of elected officials who do so is maddeningly few.

As states and localities take action to protect the public from criminal illegal aliens within the narrow confines that federal law currently allows manage to identify ever more criminal illegal aliens and hand them over to the federal government, it adds to the already tremendous evidence that shows that our elected officials at the federal level have utterly failed to honor their responsibilities to the American people.  Without these local efforts, it’s easy for Senators and Congressmen to claim that there’s really no big problem here, and ignore evidence that suggests that they need to do anything about this.  Breaking that cycle of complacency in Congress is critical, not only to beleaguered communities such as ours, but others across the nation as well that suffer these same problems.  The more Prince William County demonstrates that it is working to solve a very real problem, the more pressure Prince William and other localities add to the momentum of potential federal solutions such as the SAVE Act.

Regardless of how effective the tactic of pressuring Congress to take action may be, local efforts to crack down on illegal immigration are likely to be effective at improving public safety.  This extension of Rudy Guiliani’s “broken window theory” of law enforcement has yielded strongly positive results in other localities, and certainly improved the quality of life where it has been adopted.  We’ve already seen the tragic results of “catch-and-release” policies towards illegal aliens, and if for no other reason that to help solve a local public safety problem, strong efforts to address criminal behavior by illegal aliens shouldn’t be considered an option, but a necessity.

Meanwhile, we’re all watching reports of criminal activity by illegal aliens very closely.  Should the Rule of Law Resolution deliver on public safety goals as well as it has been delivering on the goals of reducing public spending that has supported the unlawful presence of illegal aliens in our community, our local efforts are going to clearly demonstrate the wisdom of taking the policies of John Stirrup and Corey Stewart to a larger venue.

More than half of the murders committed in PWC in 2007 were by illegal aliens. How is that not pertinent? How many people would still be alive if the illegals hadn’t been here? Guns don’t just jump up and fire by themselves.

EXTREMELY interesting article from Washington Times:

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080409/NATION/341902874/1002/NATION

More than 37 million immigrants in the United States, both legal and illegal, cost the federal government more than $346 billion last year, twice as much as the nation’s fiscal deficit, according to a report released yesterday.

Mr. Rubenstein, a former director of research at the Hudson Institute, a nonpartisan policy research organization, said U.S. taxpayers paid more than $9,000 for each immigrant in the country, a third of whom are believed to be in the U.S. illegally.

The loss estimates, the report said, included $100 billion in federal taxes lost “from the reduction of native incomes caused by immigrant workers.”

Notice how the hysterical housewives over at the anti site never seem to comment on the very specific instances where an illegal alien commits a crime? No outrage from them regarding the fact that most murders in the county were committed by illegals. No outrage over a drunk illegal alien almost killing an off-duty PWC police officer in a hit and attempted run. Not a peep. They claim to support Federal action, yet their only comments about ICE raids in Manassas and Leesburg are critical of the action.

These people don’t want anything done in reality. They talk out of both sides of their faces and will use any excuse to forestall action. It’s a federal issue, it’s racist, it’s wrecking the economy, it’s going to cost too much….blah, blah blah. What makes them worse than the mexicans without borders crowd is that the put the interests of illegal aliens over those of US citizens. At least MWB honest enough to state their agenda. The hysterical housewives hid their pro-illegal agenda behind calls for “moderate voices” which is liberal-speak for “DO NOTHING”. Who commits the bigger crime, the invader, or the traitor?

I’m surprised no one (that I’ve seen) has commented on the teenager in Maryland who was murdered last week after leaving one of the Central American gangs that has taken root all over these United States. But then again all involved are/were probably in the US legally, right?

The problem here is the “broken window syndrome of crime and poverty”.

This came from a source other than me (wisdom from the Manassas Water Utility company), but is clearly the best way to view the solution that ICE and the federal, state and local government and all representing officials (include the butt head Chief Dean) needs to apply to this problem. It is up to all of us to fix the broken windows at whatever the cost, not point fingers at who should be paying the broken window bill, and letting people off the hook for accountability and repairation to the community.

When a window is broken and is not immediately fixed, others in the community begin to believe it is ok to break more, then break the law and do whatever they want, since no-one is going to notice, and no-one is going to do anything about it. What soon follows is a spiral into crime, corruption, poverty and community decay.

Every single broken window caused by even one illegal alien, must be fixed, or everyone will begin to believe they can continue to break the law as they please, and can do whatever they want, with the ultimate result that the community declines into povery, residential decay, social decay, rampant corruption, and rampant crime. You only have to look at the inner city to see this is true, as it has the most broken windows that no-one cares to fix.

The “analogy” if you didn’t get it, is that illegal aliens are the broken windows of our communities, as they are certainly not keeping the rain out of the house, but causing an even greater flood in the kitchen. Not one of them can be allowed to remain.

I know what you’re saying. I’ve thought for several years that the broken windows theory applies to the illegal alien situation.
