Frank Wolf Demands Action From ICE
By Greg L | 9 April 2008 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens, US Congress, Prince William County | 8 Comments
Unless the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement gets their act in gear and starts picking up illegal aliens from the Prince William County Adult Detention Center in one more week, the center is going to start releasing illegal aliens subject to immigration detainers after 48 hours if ICE doesn’t come to pick them up. Congressman Frank Wolf isn’t too happy about this, and is demanding in a letter released today that Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff to get this problem resolved.
With a week to go, there isn’t a whole lot of time to fix this. Prince William County residents might want to start contacting the President demanding that his Administration start living up to the commitments it has made to the American people. It’s pretty outrageous that on the very day American citizens face a deadline to meet their commitments to the federal government, the failure of the federal government to meet their commitments to us will result in the release of known criminal illegal aliens back into our communities.

Completely agree.
Ice better get their collective backsides together, otherwise, you can bet the criminals currently in custody will go on one hell of a crime spree once released since they will realize the threats of deportation are just words.
On one hand it is very easy to blame the Feds for this inaction. But, I also believe it shows just how many illegal aliens are not just “otherwise law abiding”, otherwise why is there so many getting picked up by the po po?

Greg, you’ve gotta stop “it’s”ing around here. The only time you write “it’s” is when you’re trying to say “it is.”

[Ed note: sorry about that. I got confused that there might be a possessive use, as well as a contraction, but apparently there’s not. Thanks for pointing this out and helping me do better.]
(Oh, and by the way, this site is wholeheartedly endorsed by The Grammar Police. Keep up the great work!)
i’m sorry to say that I’ve lost confidence in Wolf. It may be he’s just tired and biding his time until he can retire and collect his pension.
Wolf used to be a man of action. When Wolf spoke, people sat up and listened - some even quaked in their boots.
This isn’t the same Wolf I knew and admired for so many years. He’s just another politician - making noise but never enough to rock the boat.
Just got back from a Manassas City Council budget work session where this letter by Mr. Hurd was used by some to NOT move forward with ICE funding for the City. Gratefully, the Council was not scared into submission and agreed after significant debate to fund 2 new police officer positions in FY 2009 — one on 7/1/08 and one on 1/1/09. Thanks Councilmembers Aveni, Harrover, Parrish and Way for voting to fund the deportation of illegal alien criminals from the City of Manassas. Now this goes to public hearing on 4/14 and 4/21.
Perhaps we should take those waiting for ICE to pick them from our jail and load them up onto a bus, drive it to D.C. and drop them off at DHS HQ. Would be cheaper to pay for the bus than to continue housing them. Plus then ICE can’t complain that they don’t have the resources to come get them.
Call it homeland delivery…
Riley: Your plan would probably result in much more action that Wolf’s letter. Last year Wolf wrote a letter to el Presidente Jorge saying, “Gee, Senor Jorge, methinks we need a fence on the border.” This letter will garner about the same amount of action.
Wolf has been ineffective for quite some time. Maybe it’s (note correct spelling) due to the slick talking slow walking staffers he’s got, like the dud Greg paraded in the last HSM meeting. He needs to go into the used car business.
