Prince William County (Map, News) - Pressure is growing on Prince William County supervisors to reconsider the controversial illegal-immigration crackdown the Police Department launched last month.

Saying the financial and public relations costs of the landmark program have been much larger than anticipated, two supervisors told business leaders Friday that the county must rework the policy to improve the community’s image.

“The illegal-immigration policy is an 800-pound gorilla that is following us around in everything we do,” Supervisor Frank Principi, D-Woodbridge, said. “It’s time to put the gorilla back in the cage.”

Officers checked the legal status of 89 people in the first month of the crackdown, arresting 41. Police Chief Charlie Deane said most of the illegal immigrants arrested would have been arrested anyway.

Citing that information, Principi and fellow Supervisor Martin Nohe, R-Coles, said it is worth revisiting the policy. Nohe called on the county to “reclaim the mantle as a diverse, dynamic and thriving community.”

Their comments to the Greater Prince William Manassas Chamber of Commerce surprised County Chairman Corey Stewart, a champion of the plan.

“To repeal or scale back now would diminish a program that has been a stunning success,” said Stewart, who pushed the policy the policy directing police officers to check the U.S. residency status of traffic violators and minor criminals. “It might be an 800-pound gorilla, but it’s a good gorilla, it’s working. It’s making the community safer and at a modest cost.”

Three other supervisors at the meeting said they expect the future of the immigration crackdown will be a major feature in the upcoming budget negotiations as the county faces a $19 million deficit and a proposal to raise taxed 27 percent.

“Until this morning, I was not aware there was a movement afoot to rescind the resolution,” said John Jenkins, D-Neabsco, who continues to support the policy.

The proposal has doubled in next year’s budget from $2.8 million in October to $6.1 million now, including more than $3 million to install cameras in police cars to guard against future lawsuits.

They are nothing but a parasite culture that demands rights that they don’t deserve.

The law’s effect, they said, will be “devastating” on Sonora. The state, just south of the U.S. border, does not have enough housing, jobs of schools to handle the influx, they contend.

One Mexican Representative asked in Spanish “How can they pass a law like this? Mexico is not prepared for the tremendous problems it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs’, she said.

Speaking of the people of Sonora, MX and Arizona, US, Rep. Leticia Amparano Gamez also claimed ‘We are one family, socially and economically.”

American citizens disagree. The United States is a sovereign nation. Its states and its citizens are not responsible for the welfare of Mexico’s citizens. It’s time for the Mexican government to stop feeding off of the United States and start finding ways to start taking care of its own citizens.

For the past few days, I have found the latest issue of the Manassas Journal Messenger on my driveway. I do not subscribe to your paper. I had a subscription nearly two years ago, but stopped subscribing due to your newspaper’s liberal slant and pro-illegal alien editorials which do reflect my views nor do they reflect reality. I do not support lawbreaking, and want no association with those who support lawbreakers, so I dropped my subscription.

Since I don’t want to pay for your newspaper and don’t want it for free, how do I stop delivery?

MdMan, sorry, but being Catholic is a religous choice, it’s not an ethnic group. You seem to dislike the church, attend a Methodist Church, but still self-identify as a Catholic. That’s interesting.

Sorry you had six bad years of schooling, but that doesn’t really give you much perspective about today’s church. I think you might be stuck back in elementary school. Come to mass sometime, we’d love to have you attend.

Members of the Catholic church are not “paying customers”. We don’t tithe in return for a service, we give because what we have belongs to God, and we return a portion of it back. Many of the posters here seem to want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The overwhelming majority of work done by the different Catholic charitable groups is apolitical. Do I approve of the sponsorship of Hogar Hispano by Catholic Charities? No. Is it representative of the charitable outreach activities of Catholics? By no means!

I can’t think of any church that would want to squander its resources. The Catholic church does not worry over this more than a Protestant church does. As a matter of fact, I can think of many more scandals involving embezzlement of church funds in Protestant churches (i.e., James Baker, Oral Roberts, and all televangelists) than in the Catholic church.

I guess my church is doing OK if posters have to keep going back to the Dark Ages and the Renaissance to find examples of wrong doing. Maybe we should talk about the Salem Witch Trials some time? Or we could discuss the supression of Catholicism by Puritans in colonial America?

Not a sermon, just a thought.

So Greg who is the more goofy? MJM for reporting it or you for even wasting your time bring it up again? Are you lacking in things that are way more important to the people or PWC to bring up?

He is however quite wrong when he refers to “split apart families.” To the best of my knowledge, not one deportation judge to date has ever refused any deportees the right to take their children with them.

What peope like Juarez fail to mention is most of the people being deported already have families back home - the last thing they want to do is take their anchor babies with them.

Consider the scenario. Daddy returns home to his village where his wife and family await him after years of working in the US, sending money home “when he can.” With him is his American “companion” along with their American-Born children who he tries to justify as their ticket to American Citizenship - when they turn 21.

Even the dumbest illegal alien is smart enough to know that taking his “American family” home with him is a guaranteed status change from Sallion to Gelding.

The Women - right up to the judge’s bench - are so brain washed, they really believe their kid will be their “pass.” And it looks like they aren’t that far off. How many arrested in a raid are released for “humanitarian” reasons?

Bring on the Pope. And while someone has the Pope’s ear, maybe they can ask why the Church (through Catholic Charities) isn’t hosting seminars in Mexico to advise the illegal aliens there of their rights!
