Principi and Nohe Backsliding?

By Greg L | 12 April 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 32 Comments

I’m not sure that the DC Examiner is accurately reporting here, but in today’s edition it would seem that Supervisors Nohe and Principi are talking about re-vamping the Rule of Law Resolution right at the time when the benefits are starting to be realized.  I can imagine this is going to generate some interesting emails to these two Supervisors.

Citing that information, Principi and fellow Supervisor Martin Nohe, R-Coles, said it is worth revisiting the policy. Nohe called on the county to “reclaim the mantle as a diverse, dynamic and thriving community.”

Their comments to the Greater Prince William Manassas Chamber of Commerce surprised County Chairman Corey Stewart, a champion of the plan.

“To repeal or scale back now would diminish a program that has been a stunning success,” said Stewart, who pushed the policy the policy directing police officers to check the U.S. residency status of traffic violators and minor criminals. “It might be an 800-pound gorilla, but it’s a good gorilla, it’s working. It’s making the community safer and at a modest cost.”

Three other supervisors at the meeting said they expect the future of the immigration crackdown will be a major feature in the upcoming budget negotiations as the county faces a $19 million deficit and a proposal to raise taxed 27 percent.

“Until this morning, I was not aware there was a movement afoot to rescind the resolution,” said John Jenkins, D-Neabsco, who continues to support the policy.

I talked to Marty Nohe this morning at the PWCRC Convention, and he is disavowing what has been reported here.  Hopefully soon we can get a better understanding of what Marty actually is trying to do.

The email address for all of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors is bocs@pwcgov.org in case you want to ask some question as well.

Marty has been back sliding since the chamber told him to back off.

Having actual BEEN at the meeting, the question was what is the county going to do about our reputation? (no one said anything about the resolution) Like it or not, wack jobs have painted us as haters making it harder to get businesses to move into PW. Someone asked the question -what can the county do to promote the positive aspects of our county. Louden used to advertize and Stafford has bill boards and radio ads.

Frank started talking about the “800lb gorrilla” as he called it. He said it needs to be put back in its cage. What that meant is up to interpretation. I didn’t take it as meaning resind the resolution (I wasnt sure WHAT he meant) but maybe it did.

The chamber hasn’t told anybody to “back off” as it hasn’t addressed the illegal immigration issue.

The reporter totally pulled that story out of his you-know-what as almost everything except that subject was talked about. Its just the press trying to “show” that the resolution wont work. You know, if you write enough stories about something, then it must be true…..

The only business that would NOT want to relocate to PWC because of the Rule of Law Resolution would be a business that wants to break our laws by hiring illegal aliens. We don’t want that type of business here. All other companies are just looking for PWC to offer them a tempting package that would put more money in their pockets. We do need to lure them in, as we need them. I am very disappointed to hear that Frank and possibly Nohe are willing to make the PWCBOCS look like complete fools and idiots by trying to rescind the Rule of Law Resolution. PWC will a the laughing stock of this country, if the BOCS overturns their very recent decision to pass this Resolution. Frank needs to stop listening to Barg. Is he really her puppet?

Barg is a nutjob…it’s her fault that we are as “diverse” as we are now. She should move to mexico, she would be much more comfortable there.

Principi is being told by Barg to rescind the resolution and has made comments to county democrats that he would like to do just that. Of course he could be the only one to lead the charge since he never voted for it in the first place.

Nohe is a little bit of surprise. Wasn’t he the one that there were rumors about right before the vote that he was going to back out? Then he came out said ‘untrue rumors were spread about my position on the resolution”. Looks like maybe the rumors were closer to the truth.

If he is so concerned about the Chamber support, then why is he supporting a higher tax rate. Shouldn’t he listen to businesses on that as well?

“the question was what is the county going to do about our reputation?”

Our reputation at least amongst the people that I know and talk to that live in Fairfax and other areas is that PWC and the 2 cities are where all the illegals live so therefore nobody wants to live here. It slays me when libs say that the reason nobody wants to live here is because we are all racists. Nobody wants to live here because we have let this area get turned into a 3rd world slum.

Again, the question asked wasn’t about the resolution, but our reputation as a non business friendly community. (compared to Stafford and Louden) I am PROUD to have my business in PW and wish that I could get a package for HAVING my business here! I am proud of the resolution and wouldn’t move out because of it. As I said before the subject that was being talked about was our reputation - specifically not being business friendly, not the resolution.

The reporter was purposely trying to make a story where there wasn’t one. Heck, we talked about a lot of good stuff that morning including my little rant on small business people paying the same taxes as big business and none of it made the paper. After all, how many papers would that sell?

    Rebecca
Principi has made it CLEAR to several people that he wants the resolution gone. It is no secret among his supporters. The people at the meeting might not have been asking about the resolution but when he referred to the 800 pound gorilla, he DID mean the resolution. The Chamber was just the first time he actually starting voicing it in public, but privately he’s been making comments for weeks and he’s always referred to it as a ‘gorilla’.

I guess he just thought there would be more sympathy in the Chamber, perhaps not from you, but from others.

I doubt he’d have the courage to ask to dissolve the resolution, however, he will try to gut it from within by making a fuss over the police funding. Even the tiniest change will cause a Victory Cry from MWB and their buddies. Caddigan and Nohe will jump on that budget bandwagon, but it will be very interesting to see what Jenkins will do.

And the funding is the most interesting because almost no one is mentioning the huge $6-8 million in school savings from ESOL. The schools are already facing tough decisions with the cuts they found out they are going to have to make. Where are the schools going to come up with $10 million more for ESOL for all the people who move back or move in thinking the tide has reversed?

The only solution is to put extreme pressure on those supervisors who might cave. If people really care about this, now is the time to prove it.

    anon,

what you say is probably true - I was just making the point that it wasn’t the original question. I also took it that when Marty spoke, it was to the original question not to what Mr P may have morphed it to. I don’t follow him so the whole gorilla thing was new to me.

It still doesn’t change the fact that the paper misrepresented the whole thing. (cause that never happens…)

Doing whats right hurts and doesn’t make us popular, but its still right. I think over time those that understand will stay and those that don’t will leave.

Umm, gosh, I hope I’m not being too agricultural here, but let’s call a trowel a trowel. Implementing these measures has costs, and there you go! Ideally, the outcome will be (and was always intended to be) a somewhat smaller population with a slightly more predictable growth pattern. That was the plan, and it’s working just fine. If you don’t like that plan, then sell us a different one. I wish you luck with that, “More People, Chaotic Growth!” platform.

Marty Nohe, through his lucrative business, Appliance Connection, depends on illegal aliens in the home building/remodeling business to provide a market for his goods. The same can be said of other similar enterprises that are members of the Chamber of Commerce and depend on illegal aliens for their economic wellbeing.

Hilda Barg should go back to writing cook books and Maureen Caddigan should stop writing Hilda’s citizen time comments against Corey Stewart.

As a mental disorder, liberalism in Prince William County is showing it’s true colors. When liberals come unglued, and RINO’s like Nohe and Caddigan start acting out as the real liberals they are, you can remain pretty confident that the Rule of Law Resolution is working and here to stay.

Anon, is it not JUST as possible that Marty is the VICTIM of people who are continually trying to spread rumors which put a different spin on everything that Marty may say. Perhaps you should look more closely at his ACTIONS rather than at the rumors about what his actions MAY become. If you have concerns about those rumors…ask him. He WILL respond.

Don’t know who you have been talking to but people I know and people I have talked with who live in Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria and DC think people who live in PW Co, and the Manassas area are still flying Confederate Flags. They think we are a bunch of uneducated racists. One friend works in Manassas and is embarrassed to tell his acquaintances where he lives in FFX Co. that he works here.

The only thing that has been realized is that PW Co and Manassas are becoming ghost towns. Now that we have empty houses, empty businesses and we will have widespread blight. Guess who will end up paying for it. In addition, the other benefit is a loss of substantial tax revenue.

I don’t know for a fact that Nohe’s business doesn’t sell to new home builders but I can tell you for a fact that when I was in property management I did NOT buy any of my appliances through a store. I ordered straight from GE and they delivered right to my properties. I could not get a cheaper prince than that of what I received from the appliance manufactures directly.

It would only make sense to me that builders would purchase from the manufactures in order to maintain their profit margins and not from a local store. I may be wrong but I am not buying into that one.

Efrain Hernandez, living in Atlantic City but originally from Mexico, and whose legal status in the country is unknown, will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

Let’s see if I can follow your logic here Robert: Illegal aliens have been known to build homes, homes have alliances, Marty Nohe sells appliances therefore he is getting rich from this alliance of ideas?

What if I go buy a dryer from Mary Nohe? My house wasn’t built by illegal aliens. Where does this fit in to Marty’s get rich quick scheme? Maybe he won’t sell me an appliance. No illegal alien in the sale.

Robert, is it my imagination or do you mention mental illness in most of your posts?

FHL: Spin it however you like, but EVERYONE I know calls this area little Mexico and won’t live here because of it. The area USED to have the redneck rep, but people know now that this is no longer the case. My friends were sending me instant messages last week thanking me for sending all the illegals from my area to their neighborhoods in Centreville. I told them that they were welcome! ;) Only when the libs wake up in their Clifton and Fairfax Station homes to the sight of 12 people to a house, people coming and going 24/7 and white work vans all over their cul-de-sacs will things change in NOVA. I plan to be there on that day with a bullhorn calling them racist xenophobes and mean-spirited A-holes.

    Sheriff Joe:

    Goldwater Institute Daily Email
    April 02, 2008

Did the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office recent use of Racketeering Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) funds to send staff members to Honduras violate the law-enforcement purposes to which such funds are limited?

Did the sheriff’s highly publicized “saturation patrols”—comprised of nearly 200 deputies and “posse” members—trespass the jurisdiction of the Phoenix Police Department? The feud between the Sheriff’s Office and local police departments, bereft of coordination or agreement over priorities, threatens to devolve into law enforcement anarchy.

Whatever the rationale the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office had for those actions, both diverted scarce resources away from vital law enforcement duties that fall within the Sheriff’s Office’s core duties:

    • Unserved warrants, including those for violent offenders, number an estimated 70,000.
    • Dozens of criminal defendants have missed court appearances because deputies in charge of moving inmates were told to skip shifts due to excessive overtime.
    • The Sheriff’s Office closed three regional booking facilities in Surprise, Avondale, and Mesa, forcing police officers in all 26 Maricopa County jurisdictions to book criminal suspects at the Fourth Avenue jail in downtown Phoenix. The greatly increased transportation time removes officers from the streets and induces them to simply cite and release criminals.

To avoid competing law enforcement and duplication of resources, the Legislature should clarify the jurisdictions of the Sheriff’s Office and local police departments. And the Sheriff’s Office’s spending practices should be made far more transparent through regular, comprehensive audits. Phoenix’s enduring crime problem is too severe to let the status quo continue.

Appliance Connection does have salesmen that work only on the commercial (meaning residential builders) side. Nohe has repeatedly said he does not work in that department, but he doesn’t the deny that the company sell appliances to builders just like they sell to homeowners.

    Uhhh, what substantial tax revenue?

Those employers paid under the table were not paying any taxes.
Those receiving money under the table were not paying taxes.
Those living 3-4 families to a house were not paying enough taxes, yet the children were taking from the school system.

Gas tax and sales tax do not count as paying taxes. If that is the case, then I want a 100% refund of the money my employer took out for the state and federal taxes this past year. I didn’t get it all back, I even had to pay the state MORE tax.

The empty houses are NOT a direct result of the resolution. They are a direct result of the housing market down turn. This was happening LONG before the resolution was even voted on. Those who blame the housing situation in PWC on the resolution may as well blame the NATION WIDE housing problems on it as well!!!

Principi is an arrogant, pompous, hypocritical, hyperbolic babbler. His backsliding on the immigration should surprise no one. How many newly elected Supervisors (before being sworn-in) would demand a private dedicated phone at county expense? Why? Was it to conduct his crisis management consulting business out of his County Office? Or in the middle of a budget crisis demand the County Executive bury nearly $100,000 for office renovations to change the foot print to enhance privacy. Why? Is it to conduct his crisis management consulting business operation from the Woodbridge District Office? Or to the placing his own Mother on the District Office Payroll after posting a job vacancy, claiming he couldn’t find a qualified applicant from over 100 resumes. Why?

Yes, according to an email that circulated, less than 3 weeks after being elected, prior to his official assumption of duties as the Woodbridge Supervisor, Principi met with County Executive Craig Gerhart. Unfortunately, Woodbridge constituents seem to have been omitted from the agenda list. However, what did make the action item request list to the County Executive was how to deal with the office renovation request of nearly $100,000 when the property management budget only had $27,000 available.

If he is Hilda Barg’s “puppet” then his Mother is pulling the strings. Yes, his Mother came all the way from California to work in his office.

It appears that the Woodbridge folks have a real winner in Principi.

So in order to be “diverse” the County needs criminals?

The chamber is just that, a chamber pot. Chamber pots from the local level to the Federal Chamber support criminals so it really comes as no surprise to see a couple of local politicians suck up to them.

The bottom line is will the County continue to enforce the law, or will it cave in to the criminals?
