An Illegal Alien’s Story

By Greg L | 14 April 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Virginia Politics | 81 Comments

A party of illegal aliens struggling to make it across the border ends up being robbed of everything they own, and young women in the group are nearly raped by these criminals who seem to make their living by preying on this vulnerable population. Worst of all, they still haven’t even made it out of Mexico yet in their quest to secure for themselves a better life. With drug cartels, coyotes, “rape trees” and other dangers still ahead in their journey, the chances that Milagros Rivera’s dreams to come to Virginia will be fulfilled rather than crushed by continuing tragedy seem slim.

It took Milagros Rivera and her family a month to reach Ixtepec, just 85 miles north of Arriaga. By then, the 36-year-old from El Salvador said they had been robbed three times.

The first time was at the river crossing into Mexico. Soldiers demanded money before allowing her, her boyfriend, her 20-year-old son and her 18-year-old daughter-in-law to continue on.

About 50 miles later, gunmen held them up along the tracks, forced them to strip naked and took about $1,500 they had saved, Rivera said.

“It was a terrible moment because they took my daughter-in-law away, and we thought they were going to rape her,” said Rivera.

The thieves ended up freeing the girl unharmed. But then they were robbed by a local police officer of the $40 they had collected begging on the streets.

Rivera said she is bound for Virginia, where friends have promised to help her find work.

“There is a lot of suffering,” she said. “But the hope of reaching your destination helps you to keep going.”

When Rivera arrives here, if she makes it, reality for her and the rest of her party is almost certainly going to fall far short of the hope she holds.  Being an illegal alien in Virginia consigns one to an underground existence of frequent lawbreaking, and the legitimate fears that lawbreaking will foster.   Bare survival in Virginia will likely necessitate that this illegal alien commit identity fraud, evade taxes, drive without a license, and violate residential occupancy limits.  She’ll live as a third-class non-citizen, a ripe target for crime, fraud, and unscrupulous business practices. Certainly conditions in her native El Salvador weren’t fantastic to begin with, but the serial tragedies that have visited this woman and her friends, and will probably continue to visit them, seem dramatically worse in comparison.

Every day laborer center in operation helps pull another illegal alien to run this tragic gauntlet. Every time an unscrupulous business owner attempts to gain competitive advantage by breaking the law, it draws others to embark on this voluntary journey to exploitation.  Every time a well-meaning sympathizer works to protect the ability of an illegal alien to obtain public benefits (which undoubtedly seem extravagant in the eyes of an unskilled peasant in Central America), it encourages more illegal aliens to undertake a journey that may ultimately lead to them standing in the cold in a 7-11 parking lot trying to eke out a bare subsistence, if they’re fortunate.  This irresponsible marketing of a system of pure human exploitation harms illegal aliens, the citizens of the United States, and the very fabric of our nation.

Perpetuating this American nightmare isn’t compassionate at all.

Maybe we should adjust our deportation procedures and make them walk home from the Mexican border, with all of their assets in cash. The Mexican Policia and bandidos would be muey grateful.

Which is precisely why our immigration quotas need to be greatly expanded. They can come here legally, not live in shadows and fear, and contribute to the economy with their hard work.

How about an H2B that would allow one year of work, be issued after a criminal history check (at the applicant’s expense) and require the employer to be reponsible for all health care costs while the rest of the family stays at home? If the holder leaves on time with no arrests, they will be allowed back after 2 years at home. Maybe enforcing the law would work, too. Those caught out of status would be deported immediately with all family members, none of whom could re-enter. Ever. Being here is a privilege.

Until word gets back that being an illegal alien in the US isn’t the cakewalk it’s made out to be OR foreign citizens are educated on the correct ways to become a legal citizen here, the flood is going to continue.

Also, as long as the demand for black market labor exists there’s going to be a supply.

In the grand scheme of things, us citizens of PWC are really dwarfed by this huge problem. One thing we hold in common with the illegal aliens residing here is we both are absolutely being taken advantage of.

All we can really do is focus local and hope it spreads national. So many people in power profit off the backs of illegals and, indirectly, off of us. Our tax dollars support the infrastructure that supports the illegals. Our cash buys products and services provided by the illegals and the profit is pocketed by those employing them. The profit is used to lobby politicians and support open border groups to keep the whole scam operating. Tax paying citizens are screwed two ways from Sunday.

Speaking of day labor centers, the Coverstone 7-11 DLC had about 30 putative employees in its vicinity at approximately 0900, today. At approximately 1300, it had 7. I suspect some got hired in the interim. Pictures and license plate numbers of those hiring would be interesting.

Anyone know the story behind the property they loiter on? I’m talking about that vacant buidling next to the Coverstone 7-11 where most of them sit around. I can’t remember ever seeing it occupied.

I guess valley girl has never seen a flop house. I would think cramming 10 or greater in a single family home would be considered bare survival to most folks. I’d wager the only exposure she’s had to illegals is one giving her a wave and a smile as he mows her lawn. It’s a pretty peachy world when one lives in an “enlightened” (segregated) community.

The state department web site for El Salvador
    http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2033.htm

This shows that since 1991 poverty has been cut in half, they have preferential trade benefits due to CAFTA-DR , free education through grade 9 with a 90% attendance and a 85% literacy rate. Things have improved drastically since the civil war down there and yet they still come. Sending home over 3 billion to about 25% of the households in 2006.
Between Latin America and the Caribbean over 50 billion went out of the U.S. back home in 2007 alone.
Some may argue this is not a bad thing. All I want to know is with all this extra cash to send home why so many of they can’t spring for their own english classes, send their kids to school with breakfest in their belly and a lunch box in their hand, and pay for driving lessons and auto insurance so they don’t have to bail at every fender bender.

My freshman year roommate was a guy from New Jersey. He was on the track team and didn’t shower until the morning. That was a miserable year. I stuck it out knowing that enduring that would result in a better life for myself in the long run. Like Dominique Dawes, Thomas Jefferson and John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt, most Americans are familiar with the concept of making short-term sacrifices for long-term gains.

Similarly, immigrants who endure less than ideal conditions have the same mentality. While it might not be enjoyable, people endure the journey to the US, they endure the hardships, they endure living in crowded conditions with the hope and belief that it will result in a better future for themselves and their family. Greg probably understands this too.

Those living in crowded conditions, working six days a week and hiking to the landramat on day 7 are not just saving for themselves but sending thousands to their families. If you get into the working class neighborhoods of Mexico and Central America as I have, it’s easy to tell which families have members working in the US just be the appearance of their houses. The windowless cinderblock box with the sagging roof doesn’t have a son working in the US. The adobe covered, painted pink house with the rocking chairs on the porch has at least one family member working abroad sending money home.

What an admirable act that these people would endure such hardship so that their parents and siblings can have a better life.

I have always felt that we needed immigration reform in this country of one kind or another, but this immense influx of illegal aliens, in my opinion, has made this impossible at this moment in time. We are already overburdened with enormous numbers of unskilled and uneducated labor that, more often than not, has no regular employment (why else the multitude of informal day labor sites) and is subjecting our society, our health care system, our educational system, our social welfare system, and, ultimately, our taxpayers to a burden for which they were ill-prepared. Until THAT is resolved, there is quite simply no way this country can absorb more. These illegal aliens have done themselves no service…they’ve made it impossible to address reform until the borders are secure and they are removed, or remove themselves.

    Emma,

It is the responsibility of the employer to pay payroll taxes, ss taxes and workmans comp. Is it the illegal immigrants fault that those employers have chosen to go the route of paying employees cash (and breaking the law)?

Just this weekend, my conservitive neighbor - had his spring clean up done by - and American no - they cost too much - by a group of illegal immigrants - and he paid them cash.

Our Government - on ALL levels, ALL parties, ALL affiliations - have failed the American People - what do we do about it - we vote them back in.

The concrete company in Manassas - no charges against the employer.
Landsdowne - no charges against the employer.

I watched an accident happen at lunch today at the corner of Sudley and Nokesville/route 28. I was sitting in the CVS parking lot when I heard a crash. A lawn truck with a trailer rear ended an SUV that was stopped at the light on Sudley waiting to turn left onto Nokesville/route 28. 5 workers got out of the lawn truck and ran in all directions. The one who ran past me was hispanic. Guess the rule of law has them all scared and running from responsibilities as usual. Even the driver ran away leaving the truck and gear. Some guy stopped behind the wreck started yelling “la migra” and they ran even faster.

The fact is that many have tried on several occassions. And they usually end up looking into the business end of US provided weapons. Do you remember the Contras? Yeah. A coalition of various groups banded together to oust a 45 year dictatorship and start a democracy. It was only after the dictatorship murdered ABC news reporter Bill Stewart in front of running cameras that Carter withheld military aid long enough for the dictatorship to be overthrown. Then the US supported terrorists to sabotage the efforts.

The most recent attempt was the Zapatista uprising. Many were gunned down by US provided helicopters given to Mexico for the war on drugs. I could go on and on.

You’ve heard the phrase, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” They can’t beat us so their joining us. You wanted it. You got it.

“Entering a country illegally is not admirable or honorable.”

It was illegal to steal tea from a ship and throw it in the harbor. It was illegal to rebel against the King of England. It was illegal to violate treaties (the Supreme Court upheld this when it affirmed the treaty of 1866 ceding the black hills to various Native Americans). It was illegal to massacre hundreds of Sioux at Wounded Knee. Many of the offenders were given Congressional Medals of Honor instead of punishment. Slavery was illegal though. I guess that makes it ok.

Our ancestor’s hands weren’t clean. What audacity to consider outrageous someone who walks across a line in the sand merely to work for a living.

I read on another website a blog about taxing the money wired out of our country. I wouldn’t want it to affect legal citizens. Maybe if you had a valid social security number you could be exempt. We could use the tax money to help with deportation or prison expense. It could help raise much needed revenue and be another negative consequence for being here illegally.

You are typical of liberal mentality but I am on to you. You deflect history like is my (our) but it is not. I wasn’t alive during the BostonTea Party, never owned slaves, never shot an Indian and or whatever else you can contrive about history. The straight facts of TODAY speak for themselves, nothing less, nothing more.
I see some other liberal postiings who blame Greg, blame the system and blame people like me. Sorry, it doesn’t wash.

Stick to the facts - people are hurt and murdered right here in PWC from illegal aliens. “Good” Americans hire illegal aliens and pay them under the table, thus avoiding all these taxes others say that are being paid. Horse manure.

Another present day fact. Other hispanic business owners hire illegals, house illegals and subjugate them at their expense for this “better world” you brag about all the while, basically enslaving them at lower wages, reaping the bigger profits and trying their dam(n)edest to evade every tax and law they can. Now, who is the real criminal here and who is really exploiting illegals? So stop with the sob stories.

Fact - Illegals or “migrants” as they are called south of the border, are, in fact, being taken advantage of, beaten, robbed and in some cases raped or even murdered by …local Mexicans, sometimes police and others as they travel north to this better place. None of this happens here! We do not beat, rob, maim or kill so stop blaming us like we do horrible things to present day people who enter our country illegally!

That sign posted on Liberty Street is mean, hateful, racist and immensely outdated. This 2008, not 1698, 1774, 1860 or 1885. Just a little history for you: Slavery was not “invented” or started by the United States but by Britain and a few other Europian countries in collusion with some African nations who conspired with Europians to capture slaves and sell them in the British Colonies.

I refuse to defend past historical events. We should learn from them and change (we did) and I don’t need to be preached to by people who never experienced any of this in this country (Sorry, a stinky roommate does not qualify). Since we are at it, do you want us to apologize for World War II, maybe the Revolution or even being born? I know several liberals who think this way.

Before anyone says -”We stink”, they should check and see what is in their own shorts first.

And stop blaming us for “guns for the Contras” or whatever. The gun, the machette, the knife, the ball bat, the stick or the fist never hurt anyone until some piece of trash from hell decided to grab some power over someone and hurt or kill them. The young woman was killed here in Manassas with HANDS and another young man STABBED to death. I don’ care what happens in Mexico so don’t blame me.

Oh yeah. More history you missed understood or misinterpreted. That Boston Tea Party you mentioned was due to citizens getting alittle ticked off at the King and the Tea Tax. Was it illegal? You were right on that but our legislators were ignored so we started to get P.O.ed. Later, some armed citizens on April 19, 1775 fought the British first at Concord, then Lexington because the Brits were coming for our arms cache. Since you mentioned this and then mentioned our arms doing all this damage in Mexico, why don’t the people rise up and have a “Boston Tea Party” and then maybe a little war like we did (or are the citizens disarmed)? After all, we, the People, took on the strongest nation on earth at the time and somehow won. Now that is inspirational so why don’t you learn from it and pass it on. Or is that the plan all along? The Mexicans can’t take Mexico back so now they are coming here to take a piece of America back. We see the pictures, the signs, the demands, the arrogance.

    Don’t even think about it!

I realize that this is an emotional topic. However, sometimes emotions run counter to winning an argument. Those who support illegal immigration will never be convinced to change their philosophy. However, there are many who have not yet made up their minds. It is to those people that the arguments should be directed.

The question of illegal aliens committing heinous crimes is legitimate. However, horrible crimes are (unfortunately) committed by illegal aliens, legal aliens and citizens alike. I question whether pinning the argument against illegal immigration to crimes is the best course. The crimes are real and the victims are real. But, in the minds of the undecided, crimes are sensational and generally considered the exception rather than the rule. I write this as a matter of argument and logic and with sincere sadness for the victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens.

The core issue is, “who owns the American economy”. And the core answer is, “the American people”. The US economy is an asset just like a tree or a brick of gold stored at Ft Knox. You would be arrested for destroying a tree and you’d be arrested (maybe even shot) for trying to steal the gold in Ft Knox. Complying with laws and regulations is a pre-requisite to drawing from the asset called the US economy. Who says? The owners of the asset - the American people through the laws written by their elected representatives. Arguments that those in violation of the law will strengthen the asset are moot. The same argument could be made for stealing money from a bank, “I was going to invest the money and then return more than the bank would have made”. Nonsense. You steal money from a bank you go to jail. Likewise, the argument of poverty falls on deaf ears when it comes to committing felonies. “I am poor so I help up a bank.”. Sorry but your poverty does not give you the right to steal someone else’s asset. Finally, the argument that others have committed crimes does not absolve you from you criminality. “I held up the bank but I saw people jaywalking while I was taking the money.”. Maybe the jaywalkers should be prosecuted too but they do not excue your crime.

So, I ask those who believe that illigal immigrants should be welcomed, tolerated, anything but deported:

    1. Who owns the US economy?
    2. Does the US have the right to set laws protecting its assets and then enforce those laws?
    3. Is it any more moral to gain money unlawfully through illegal immigration than it is through embezzelment?

There are many emotional aspects to this debate. However, at the core, the US economy is the possession of the people of the Unites States and “we the people” have decided to limit immigration to a certain number of people.

Final question for those who believe illegal immigrants should be welcomed:

    1. If my family and I broke into you house and started eating your food would you excuse us because:

    a) We also picked up sticks in the yard?
    b) We were hungrier in our house than we were after we ate your food?
    c) We don’t believe you actually own the house, we consider houses the property of all people?
    d) We send some of your food home to our house so that our mom could eat too?

That’s funny. To suggest to me that I LEAVE a place if I don’t like it yet they demand that Hispanic immigrants STAY in their countries to change it if they don‘t like it. It’s called a double standard. Speaking of double standards, they sing songs about those that violated the law at the Boston Tea Party and about those who used violence to enact regime change in America meanwhile the people who wish to do the same in Nicaragua and Southern Mexico are called terrorists.

But back to the original story of Milagros Rivera and family: the bottom line is that Greg is right that it must really suck to be an illegal alien in this country or in any country for that matter, and it must suck to be abused by gangs and corrupt police on the journey here, but they endure it because they believe that their lives and their families’ lives will be better off in the long run.

And that’s precisely what has made this country great. The process of natural selection ensures that the immigrants who come here are strong, brave and willing to endure temporary, minor affliction for the long term good. The lazy and weak who can’t or won’t make the journey stayed back in Europe. These people produced descendents like Chesty Puller and Ronald Reagan. Meanwhile people like Voltaire stayed in Europe.

El Guapo - your logic is flawed. It is not a double standard. We have enough crime, poverty, and corruption here with Americans. Illegal aliens have no right to come here - it doesn’t matter if they want a better life. We have immigration laws - we already let in more legal immigrants than all other nations combined - and we simply do not have the infrastructure to support anyone who wants to come here simply because they want a better life.

Illegal aliens have the right to remain in their country, the right to improve their country, the right to make their voices heard in their own country, the right to demand that their government improve their quality of life.

Americans have the right to protect their family, their land, their assets, their quality of life, and to demand that the US government enforce the law and protect US citizens and legal residents from the detrimental effects of illegal aliens.

The US is a nation of laws - and we do not have to willingly accept those who break our laws and take advantage of our social services and health care system.

Just because I want more money and a better life doesn’t mean I can go out and rob a bank just because I need the money. It also doesn’t mean that I can invade a country just because I want a better life.

To me thats the solution to this issue..The Government needs to start enforcing the laws here and take away the social and health care services to those who are not a legal resident or a citizen… but with ever “rule” there is also an exception. That is what needs to be fixed..the exception..What is the exception? I am a firm believer in the exception to every rule and that is what needs to be addressed. We can sit and recite history all day but it gets you know where. We can say “deport ALL illegals” but thats not going to happen either. To many to deport/detain and not enough funds. If you take away the ” better life here” scenerio and enforce our current laws and advertise/offer these services to those of legal status, then maybe it could slow down the illegal traffic. I’m not against “sharing” the American dream. I just want to make sure the dream is still there when my Children and their children become adults. Is that to much to ask? What is the happy medium here?

And thereby take work away from American citizens that should be paid a LIVING WAGE, instead of having to cut corners living ten to a house!

We really need immigration to go to ZERO! Had you not heard, everything that was once American is being sold, outsourced and several other ways gone from this land. Where are the steel mills, that backbone for well over a hundred years, Japan and now China have taken them away. Try to buy lead, you have a lot of competition, China wants to make paint with lead in it for our childrens sake. Had this same discussion with one of our local’s, Carpentersville, IL, where they just opened a “Brand New Store!” Wonderful, we have a store to replace the Jewel that could not make money in an Hispanic village. Plus it was to filthy, because no one cared anymore.

Our wonderful New Store was promoted by the village and given $250,000 to move ahead with building it. My son-in-law went there, mostly Hispanic foods and fruits and vegies. In a host of insulting e-mails in the village, one moron said that he bought all American food at the store and I showed him the items he got and where they are from.

Oh, goody, you went to Fresh Market today, bought real nice stuff too! Those foods may be considered American, however we really have to examine statements by anyone associated with Bill.

He did not even have the heart to use his real name on the end of the e-mail below!

    Potatoes

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato

The potato originated in the area of contemporary Peru and Bolivia, identified more specifically in research published by David Spooner in 2005 as an area of southern Peru, just north of Lake Titicaca. The potato was introduced to Europe around 1700, and subsequently by European mariners to territories and ports throughout the world. Thousands of varieties persist in the Andes, where over 100 varieties might be found in a single valley, and a dozen or more might be maintained by a single agricultural household.

However, today, over 99% of all cultivated potato varieties worldwide are descendants of a subspecies indigenous to Chile.

Once established in Europe, the potato soon became an important food staple and field crop. Lack of genetic diversity, due to the fact that very few varieties were initially introduced, left the crop vulnerable to disease. In 1845, a fungal disease, Phytophthora infestans, also known as late blight, spread rapidly through the poorer communities of western Ireland, resulting in the Great Irish Famine. The potato is also strongly associated with Idaho, Maine, Washington, North Dakota, Prince Edward Island, Ireland, Jersey and Russia because of its large role in the agricultural economy and history of these regions. But in recent decades, the greatest expansion of potato has been in Asia, where as of 2007 approximately eighty percent of the world potato crop is grown. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, China has become the world’s largest potato producer, followed by India.

    Strawberries

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawberries

The typical cultivated strawberry comes from the Americas, and is a hybrid of the North America F. virginiana and the South American F. chiloensis, developed in the early 18th century. Interestingly, the crossbreeding was done in Europe to correct a mistake; the European horticulturists had only brought female South American plants, and were forced to cross them with the North American variety in order to get fruit and seeds.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2005strawberry.PNG
Most strawberries are grown in America, but they are grown all around the world.

    Oranges

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oranges

Oranges originated in Southeast Asia. The fruit of Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. In a number of languages, it is known as a “Chinese apple” (e.g. Dutch Sinaasappel, “China’s apple”, or “Apfelsine” in German). The name is thought to ultimately derive from the Dravidian word for the orange tree, with its final form developing after passing through numerous intermediate languages.

    Radishes

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radishes

The radish (Raphanus sativus) is an edible root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family that was domesticated in Europe in pre-Roman times. They are grown and consumed throughout the world. Radishes have numerous varieties, varying in size, color and duration of required cultivation time. There are some radishes that are grown for their seeds; oilseed radishes are grown, as the name implies, for oil production.

    Cucumbers

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cucumbers

    History of the cucumber
The cucumber has been cultivated for at least 3,000 years in Western Asia, and was probably introduced to other parts of Europe by the Romans. Records of cucumber cultivation appear in France in the 9th century, England in the 14th century, and in North America by the mid-16th century.
    Earliest cultivation

The cucumber is believed to be native to India, and evidence indicates that it has been cultivated in Western Asia for 3,000 years. The cucumber is also listed among the ancient Ur and the legend of Gilgamesh describes people eating cucumbers. Some sources also state that it was produced in ancient Thrace, and it is certainly part of modern cuisine in Bulgaria and Turkey, parts of which make up that ancient state. From India, it spread to Greece (where it was called “vilwos”) and Italy (where the Romans were especially fond of the crop), and later into China. The fruit is mentioned in the Bible (Numbers 11:5) as having been freely available in Egypt, even to the enslaved Israelites: We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely/the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic. The Israelites later came to cultivate the cucumber themselves, and Isaiah 1:8 briefly mentions the method of agriculture - The Daughter of Zion is left/like a shelter in a vineyard/like a hut in a field of melons/like a city under siege. The shelter was for the person who kept the birds away, and guarded the garden from robbers.

    Apples

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apples

The tree originated from Asia, where its wild ancestor is still found today. There are more than 7,500 known cultivars of apples resulting in range of desired characteristics. It should be noted however, that cultivars vary in their yield and the ultimate size of the tree, even when grown on the same rootstock.

At least 55 million tonnes of apples were grown worldwide in 2005, with a value of about $10 billion. China produced about two-fifths of this total. The United States is the second leading producer, with more than 7.5% of the world production. Turkey, France, Italy and Iran are among the leading apple exporters.

Although “Jo” believes that he is doing is for his country, in fact in April most of the fruit is imported from South American where at this time the year it is Fall and time to harvest.

Therefore, let it be known about the land that none of what Manoa Joe buys is American other than what exist’s in his heart and mind!

    Richard & Dennis-

What a couple of WIMPS & CRYBABIES!!!! I was not that impressed with the new Fresh Market either, but at least I know how to find the Main Street bridge! When Woodman’s opened several years ago I stopped going to Domminick’s in East Dundee. You guys may be rich, but not me. Who in the world would be stupid enough to pay at least 70 to 100 per cent more for vegetables, fruit, meat, canned goods, etc. at Jewel or Domminicks.

I have met and visited with Phil Woodman, the CEO of Woodman’s, many times at the Carpentersville store. Most often when he was helping the stock boys in the vegetable area. He is a true American from Wisconsin!! Have you ever met the CEO of Jewel or Domminicks?? Hell no you haven’t because they either live on the East Coast or the West Coast.

By-the-way, when I visited the Fresh Market today, I did buy the following - strawberries, oranges, radishes, cucumbers, apples, and potatoes. The last time I checked these foods were considered American, Mr. Grass. So you two Donkey Holes, get a life!!!

    Sorry, el Guapo:
These illegal aliens are not strong, brave and full of potential. They are the unwanted underclass of their own countries. They are uneducated and illiterate even in their own language. If we eliminate anchor baby citizenship, I guarantee they will stop coming.

If an intelligent, educated immigrant wants to become an American, fine. Just do it legally. But no more underclass. You’re dreaming if you think there’s a Chesty Puller or anything close in what Mexico, El Salvador, etc. is sending us.

This is really simple, take away the incentives for a better life:

    1) Fix the 14th amendment to meet today’s issues. No more automatic citizenship.
    2) Punish employers caught using illegal aliens for labor. 250k per day per employee
    3) Fix the welfare system so it is not a reward or windfall for the family that took advantage of the 14th amendment.

Once these have been accomplished, self deportation will ensue and we will not have to spend one dime on a fence and there will be less people crossing the border. Please see Medic’s Country Reform for more information.

Mexico Complains Of Too Many Repatriated Mexicans
    Mon, 04/07/2008 - 15:28 — Judicial Watch Blog

The U.S. border state leading the battle against illegal immigration with unprecedented tough laws has received complaints from Mexico’s government that too many Mexicans have been repatriated and the country is overwhelmed with demands for housing, jobs and schools.

Fed up with the devastating effect of illegal immigration, Arizona has enacted the nation’s toughest laws to curb the problem and evidently its working. State legislators have passed laws barring illegal immigrants from receiving government services, posting bail for serious crimes and winning punitive damages in lawsuits. This year a new law makes it illegal for businesses to hire undocumented workers and those that do can be shut down.

The state legislator who sponsored the work bill, Representative Russell Pearce, says the law’s undeniably positive effects include smaller class sizes, shorter emergency room waits and an overall huge savings to taxpayers. The Republican congressman drafted the bill because studies revealed that illegal immigration cost Arizona taxpayers over $2 billion annually, not including the toll of crime and destruction.

It turns out that enough illegal immigrants have either fled the U.S. or been deported that officials in the Mexican state of Sonora, which shares an extensive border with Arizona, have complained that too many of their fellow countrymen have returned. They miss the remittances sent from the U.S. as well as smaller class sizes in local schools.

Mexican government officials knew Arizona’s tough employment verification law would become their worst nightmare, which explains why they tried blocking it. Earlier this year a delegation of nine legislators from Sonora toured Tucson and held a news conference to say that their beloved state cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools resulting from illegal Mexican workers returning home.

One baffled Mexican legislator, Leticia Amparano Gamez, asked in Spanish “how can they pass a law like this?” She went on to explain that Mexico is not prepared for the “tremendous problems” it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs. Another member of the Mexican delegation, Representative Florencio Diaz Armenta, asked “what do we do with the repatriated?”

El gaupo claims our illegals have brought us Reagan and Puller? Flawed? In your dreams!

Come to the United States as legals, not illegals. Reagan, Puller and the rest of us are not products of illegal aliens. Don’t compare what this country offers when such some Central American citizens embrace such galant leaders as “Che”, Zapatistas, drug lords and corrupt governments. Socialism is rampant south of us; that is the major problem, not the United States. We don’t beat, rob or kill illegals here, they do. We have capitalism, they don’t.

According to you, if I see something in the store and I want it or need it, then it is just fine and dandy that I steal it because it is somehow better for me so it must be better for America. Wow! What deductive reasoning; all crimes are now justified. The real criminal is the new “victim”. It is all my fault somehow that other places are not as nice as here and I must understand this and be willing to just hand over the keys to the house - no questions asked. That dog won’t hunt!

Building a life takes a plan and a path, not a “coyote” and a flop house. Our “Tea Party” sent a message to the King to change OUR future, not Central America’s. Stop using our revolution like it is a shameful act. If our forefathers hadn’t done this, this country would not have evolved into what it is today - period!

I apologize for nothing, I have no need to. I am proud of my country, proud of my heritage.

Illegals need to go home and apply for re-entry. Upon getting real papers (not a gift from Congress or Bush) and meeting the requirements - Welcome to America.

The only way that we can assist Mexico is to annex it. You can never replace the culture of corruption. Therefore, all public servants would have to be fired and deported, from El Presidente on down to the street sweepers. We need to stop sending money out into the world and receiving nothing in return. I’ve said it before: if a country wants to be our equal, they need to raise themselves to our level of prosperity. Foreigners love to come here and enjoy the protection and opportunities that our nation provides to it’s residents. Why aren’t they demanding the same from their own governments?

Sheriff JOE ARPAIO, a true AMERICAN Hero. Read this story and you will get motivated !

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily.

He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They
give great classes for anyone who’d like to adopt an animal. He has literally
taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had
    them place in dog shows.

    The best part?

His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million
Teresa and I adopted a Weimeraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most
would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his
budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. We h ave six trees in our yard from the Prison.

Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.

Now he’s in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Custom Enforcement wasn’t doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He’s kind of a “Git-R Dun” kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE ARIZONA MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona) who created the “Tent City Jail”:

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but “G” rated movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn’t get sued for
    discrimination.

He took away cable TV Until he found out there was a Federal Court Order that
required cable TV for jails so he hooked up the cable TV again and only let
in The Disney Channel and The Weather Channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, So they will know how hot it’s gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, “This isn’t The Ritz/Carlton…If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”

He bought Newt Gingrich’s lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the
    jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he
replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

    More On The Arizona Sheriff:

With Temperatures Being Even Hotter Than Usual In Phoenix (116 Degrees Just Set A New Record), the Associated Press Reports:

About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire- Surrounded Tent Encampment At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests and Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.

“It feels like we are in a furnace,” Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has
Lived In The Tents for 1 year. “It’s inhumane.”

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago
started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not
    one bit sympathetic.

He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: “Its 120 Degrees In Iraq
And Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too, And They Have To Wear Full Battle Gear, But They Didn’t Commit Any Crimes, So Shut Your Damned Mouths!”

    Way To Go, Sheriff!

Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or
repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in
luxury until it’s time for their parole, only to go out and commit another
crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things
taxpayers can’t afford to have for themselves.

    El Guapo,
My husband is half native American (Cherokee), and he and his parents are strongly anti-illegal alien.

From their perspective, they have worked very hard to attain what they have, and they see the illegal aliens (all illegal aliens, not just the hispanic ones) as thieves who take advantage of good Americans. They see the Americans who greedily make money off of illegals, as traitors in the worst sense.

My husband and his parents are proud Americans. And it ticks them off to no end that pro-illegal immigrant groups invoke the horrors of their tribe’s past to make their arguement.

Mom, I appreciate your insightful comments. A lot of people are against illegal immigrants.

El Guapo, I HAVE noticed in previous threads that you do not support our open borders or the illegal alien leadership who have intentionally elevated the emotional level of the debate to a point where it often becomes irrational. I realize that you have been trying, in this thread, to put a human face on the majority of those illegal aliens who are, in fact, caught between the extremists of their cause, their own governments who are actually pushing them across the border to be rid of them, and the legal residents of this country whose patience has been strained by those same people to the breaking point. In that, we all have very much in common.

That said, you must understand that it really IS the extremists who have raised the frustration level to the point that, to many, the humanity involved here (the illegal aliens that is) has become lost. They are being USED by the one (their leaders) and castigated, even hated, by the other. All the while they are also being used by corrupt and greedy businesses that are taking advantage of them, adding fuel to the fire by giving them false hope that this land of plenty will welcome them with open arms and elevate them to an economic standard of which they could only dream.

These are, by and large, unsophisticated and uneducated, or undereducated, people who are buying into what these extremist leaders of theirs are selling them and it’s getting them into trouble. What they REALLY need is leaders dedicated to THEM, not to their own agenda, who can show them that they ARE being used and have been sold a bill of goods that just doesn’t exist. That they MUST return to their countries and do things the right way…either fight for their rights on their home ground or come here legally and truly be welcomed with open arms. For our part, if that could happen, THEN we can logically address immigration reform so that more of them would be able to come here legally to seek and embrace the American Dream as it was it meant to be.

AW, you’ve chosen to open up with a lie. Let me correct you. You have NOT noticed in previous threads that I support open borders. Neither have you noticed me writing anything in support of illegal alien leadership.

And you can take your liberal crap about “leaders dedicated to them” and evil, greedy businessmen and keep it to yourself. Benevolent leaders and benevolent bakers and butchers don’t provide us our dinner.

Wow…you must really be pissed El Guapo. That last comment in response to me was much like Jimmy Young’s comment in response to someone paying him a compliment in a previous thread…difference is, for him it’s to be expected.

So that there is no further misunderstanding El Guapo, perhaps I should be more explicit…I was on your side. Do you see now how this has become such a volatile issue that anger bred of misunderstanding can so easily erupt on both sides?

    Mrs Cheney ( on 16 Apr 2008 at 10:05 am Post)……Nicely done blog post, I agree…

I think we all can agree that there needs to be some reform or action to control immigration, what we don’t agree on is the tactics used and the way the messages are being delivered…But all in all we all want the same end result.

    Thats all for me..Peace out

I would think that rational pro-immigration citizens would want border security & restricted access into this country. With a flood of law breaking immigrants entering OUR country a objective thinking person would only be angered by the numerous lawless acts an illegal is forced to commit to work and reside here.

My hispanic friends, co-workers, & clients are mad as hell that they or their parents have jumped through numerous obsticles to obtain citizenship or legal working papers, and they are forced to endure the backlash from the communities they live in because they are grouped into the illegal crowd.

They more than anyone else I know want border fences, and tighter enforcement. They feel like they are being screwed over by their own people.

    To Good Time Charlie:

Your thread on April 15 (11:17) was right on target. Well said.

    Just Cause,
We talk about immigration periodically. But I have never mentioned this web site. I should have turned them onto BVBL while we were talking about immigration but it just slipped my mind. It should make for constant conversation once they check into the thread content.

Thank you red, white, and blue…..
I served in the military along side several immigrants. I would have enjoyed being a neighbor, and friend to them after leaving the military.

If all of the pro illegal immigration crowd had been in the trenches like I have, serving the country with immigrants like I have, I think they might have a different view of illegals.

My experience teaches me that nobody has a worse taste for illegal immigration than legal immigrants trying to assimilate. Like everyone else who is against illegal immigration on this web site, I feel admiration and compassion for those who come to our country with nothing but the clothes on their back, and attempt to legally be part of the American dream.

Anyone trying to legally work in America or earn citizenship should have to sacrifice to be a part of what we and our families have made of this country. Every generation in my family has served in the military, and nothing has been handed to us. Why should an illegal have the right to expect more?

GTC- I agree with what you are saying, I just don’t agree with the way it is being handled or advertised and where are alllll the legal immigrants that agree with you? Last I heard even the legal immigrants are laying low because of the fear of racial profiling..by the police and other citizens!

Many, Just Cause, are laying low, at least on this issue, because of threats from the illegal community. You mustn’t forget, a majority of gang members in this area are, themselves, illegal.

Just cause…..you bring up some good points. I wish I had an answer for you. I wonder what my hispanic friends would say if they were asked to write an editoral defending Greg, and this web site. I need to have them look at what’s going on in these threads.

One thing that is often forgotten….A good number of Latino immigrants have in fact achieved a great deal…financial strength, their own home and their own business. In fact, I know one such person in Woodbridge…a BEAUTIFUL home and family. Their business consists of several Latino oriented markets throughout the area.

Obviously, their business (”cash flow”) benefits from an enlarged customer base and the illegal alien influx has certainly enlarged that base. While the exodus of illegal Latino aliens is good for society, it is NOT good for their business. Thus, I can understand the predicament of these Americans of Latin descent.
