Criminals Without Borders

By Greg L | 18 April 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime | 18 Comments

Maryland Delegate Victor Ramirez seems to have a problem with citizen public advocacy groups forming a regional coalition to encourage citizens in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia to engage with their elected officials and advocate responsible public policies to reduce the number of illegal aliens that unlawfully reside in the region. I’m sure he’s far more comfortable having complacent subjects, rather than active citizens in his jurisdiction so he can continue to devote taxpayer funds to perpetuate the unlawful presence of illegal aliens.  In his eyes, the citizenry is a potential threat.

Maryland Delegate Victor Ramirez, D, saw the organization as an attempt for the groups to increase their numbers to gain more leverage.

However, the multi-state hierarchy of the Alliance might end up causing the group trouble, Ramirez said.

“I think their plan may backfire on them,” he said. “In Maryland, it’s a more progressive state than Virginia, and if we see people from Virginia meddling in Maryland’s policies, I think it’s going to galvanize support against people who advocate these Draconian policies that create hate.”

Distracted by his leftist rhetoric, Delegate Ramirez is refusing to acknowledge the frequently demonstrated problem that criminal illegal aliens in Maryland don’t confine their criminal activity to only the state of Maryland.  Too often, after being the beneficiaries of Maryland’s catch-and-release policies, illegal aliens cross into Virginia to commit crimes here.  When Maryland’s lax enforcement of the law starts to pose public safety issues in neighboring jurisdictions, I’d say folks in these other jurisdictions have a rather reasonable basis for criticizing Maryland’s policies and their calls to the Maryland electorate to fix the problems caused by some irresponsible elected officials are an appropriate measure.

Case in point: today’s DC Examiner tells the story of an illegal alien MS-13 member who was released on bond in Maryland, and then (surprise surprise!), failed to appear at his trial where he faced charges of attempted murder.  Prince William County police encountered this individual and because of the Rule of Law Resolution and detained him.  This illegal alien will without a doubt be returned to Maryland to face justice, serve whatever sentence is handed down if convicted, and thanks to the immigration detainer that Prince William County placed on this Maryland resident, will be deported.  When Maryland releases illegal alien gang members facing charges of attempted murder on a $2,500 bond who then show up in another jurisdiction, this isn’t a “hate” thing, it’s simple self-preservation.

Virginia clearly has more work to do to not only enhance public safety here, but also the public safety of surrounding jurisdictions.  A recent case of a illegal alien day laborer who was picked up in Annandale, and who then murdered the person who hired him in his Montgomery County, MD home shows we clearly haven’t yet fully resolved the illegal alien problem in Virginia.  But we’re at least trying.  What we learn while doing so could be awfully valuable for many neighboring jurisdictions, but only if their elected officials can dump this crazy rhetoric that paints anyone trying to address this problem as racists, and start looking at facts.

Ramirez has introduced legislation in Maryland to grant in-state tuition for illegal aliens, wants to continue Maryland’s practice of providing illegal aliens with drivers licenses, and supports Mt. Ranier declaring itself a sanctuary city.  The consequences of such ridiculous ideas are something that not only Marylanders must bear, but to some extent everyone in the region as well.

Those who pander to Illegal Aliens and benefit from their presence in this country are terrified of ordinary citizens taking time out from watching American Idol to organize and educate themselves about the adverse consequences of the Great Illegal Invasion. They are terrified because the logical consequence of such organization and education will be a public hue and cry for local action like that taken by Prince William County. The Board of County Supervisors has set an example that will be followed by the local governing jurisdictions of the entire region. As long as the PWC BOCS hangs tough and continues enforcement of the Resolution, it will only be a matter time before the Invaders recognize their defeat and retreat to more welcoming jurisdictions, where, eventually, they will also be driven out.

Is it just a coincidence that Ramirez (a Latino surname) is an advocate for illegal aliens and wants to provide them benefits to which they are not entitled? Go figure!

I am all for illegal immigration reform ( Granting some Amnesty giving the situation) and have really been on the fence as far as “which way to resolve” this issue. I then read articles like this one, and well Im swayed again. The thought of a Gang member being released on a $2500.00 bond in MD and then that criminal coming to this county ( where I and my kids reside) makes me extremely uncomfortable. Talk about needing to be educated more…I guess I do.. I was under the impression that ANY criminal reguardless of the crime had a background check done and if that person was Illegal, the department was to contact I.N.S where they would intervine and deport them on the spot…Is this not true? Please dont think I am ignorant..I really was under that impression….

That would be nice. I mean that would really be nice. I’ve always said that calling someone a racist or xenophone doesn’t facilitate a discussion of the issues. I would also suggest that that we dump the crazy rhetoric that paints all illegal immigrants as dangerous criminals. Mention a gang member and a schizophrenic murderer and use it as an example of why all illegal aliens are bad is just as bad as mentioning the crazy things Greg says and using to paint all HSM members. The fact is that the vast majority of illegal aliens are people trying to make a living just like you and me.

And OhNo!, yes, you do need to be educated. You really need to be educated. The I.N.S. was reorganized out of existence about half a decade ago.

El Guapo thank you for the insight, Please dont make fun of me for trying to be educated, I am trying to figure out how we got to this point. I understand your frustrations ( seen in previous post) but I dont think ( atleast I don’t) I am racist on this subject. I am rather concerned that this MS13 gang member attempted murder and then was let go on a $2500.00 bond and he didnt show up for his court date and was later detained in another county. Since he IS a suspect to criminal activity ( innocent until proven guilty) and was released on “faith” to return to his court date, and then he didnt show up, Obviously he is “guilty” therfore he needs to be deported ( for the safety of others) and since we are on the subject…Its human nature that 1 bad apple can ruin the entire bunch…( got my fill of it when I used to tell people I was from PWC back in the day, I was automatically labeled a redneck) but what are YOU doing to educate or get the word out, that not ALL bad apples of the illegal status is bad??? Its easy to post an opinion over and over and over…But actions speak LOUDER than words…So I ask you..WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THE ILLEGALS HERE TO CONVINCE THE “OTHERS” THAT THEY ARE IN FACT MAKING A DIFFERENCE?

OhNo, the only jurisdictions in the area that check legal status as a matter of course are Manassas City, Prince William County, the Town of Herndon, and Spotsylvania County. No one else, not state, not local, does anything other than see if the person’s name shows up as someone who has been previously deported. If they use a fake name, they even get out of that.

Guapo, what you’re missing here is the point that all crimes by illegal aliens are 100% preventable. I don’t care one whit whether they’re more or less prone to be criminals, and that’s not the point at all. The point is if our government actually bothered to enforce the law, the criminal illegal aliens wouldn’t be here to commit their crimes in the first place. We have enough home-grown criminals. We don’t need to import ANY more.

Greg- OMG Im soooo uneducated on this..I had no idea..I was under the impression that all immigrants had to prove their legal status whenever they were arrested in every county and in every state. I thought PWC was making a stand in fact that they could just ask for papers from Immigrants from a simple traffic stop, I had NO IDEA that no other county ( other than what you mentioned) wasnt even checking to begin with.. WOW

    OhNo:

You’re under the impression that your elected leaders and appointed officials actually do their jobs. I was under that impression until approximately one year ago when I went to a HSM meeting and started doing research into immigration law on my own. I found out that most of our elected and appointed leaders, for various reasons, do not want to get into the issue of determining anyone’s legal status. Thank God that a couple of them here in PWC admitted we had a problem and took the limited steps they were able to take to fix it. Federal law does not allow much room for localities to address this problem. Having a “287g” agreement and asking for proof of legal residence is one of the strongest measures a locality can take.

The issue could be solved in one of two (or better yet, a combination) ways. Either the federal government could enforce laws against hiring and harboring illegals to a much greater extent than it does, or it could change the law to make it clear that states have the authority to do so.

After educating yourself on the issue, the only logical conclusion you will come to is that it is detrimental for this country to allow illegal aliens to continue to live here. If we do so, we sacrifice the concept upon which this country is based. That concept is the foundation for the freedom, prosperity, and status that this country has enjoyed. Countries based on the same model flourish. Countries not based on that model fail. It’s that simple.

While most illegal aliens are indeed not dangerous, they are, in fact, criminals. That is why we want them to leave. Legal immigrants are welcome to assimilate our culture, work hard and enjoy the blessings of our society.

OhNo! don’t listen to Advocator either. Some think that just enforcing the laws against employers would be so easy. If we enforce the law, then it will stop. But the people that think this will lead to utopia don’t realize what the law stipulates.

The employers are only obligated by law to complete and retain Form I-9 and review documents. The documents can be easily forged. An employer completes the form and puts it in the file. It’s not easy to bring a case against an employer who knows the law. Even an unscrupulous employer can easily get away with knowingly hiring illegals just by keeping copies of the completed form.

A few years ago WalMart got busted. The investigation included wire taps which recorded managers admitting to knowing that the workers in question were illegal. The recent raids in the headlines resulted in few charges against the businesses themselves. The Swift & Co raids of 2006. The resort in Loudoun County. The Pilgrims Pride raid. It’s easier said than done.

Maryland is SO progressive, it is making the District of Columbia look like a tax haven!

I heard of an interesting case today in Fairfax County. An illegal alien teen was driving a family company van, hit an SUV with a mother and two kids. One of the kids got hospitalized. The kid did not have a valid driver’s license and fled the scene. Luckily, someone gave the license plate no. to the cops and the kid got arrested. The Fairfax CA office, of course, did not notify the victim of the date of the court hearing. This kid got SEVERELY punished — five whole days in jail, a year (supervised?) probation, and some community service. The SUV will supposedly get “fixed,” not replaced.

    Justice, you gotta love it!

Right you are MdMan, and with Mr. Tejada, also born in El Salvador, they are but two of an ever-growing population of educated, foreign born or first generation politicians advocating not for their district and everyone in it, but primarily the “brown” agenda. If in doubt just look at Miami, FLA. Now, we have seen this many times in the past with immigrants from both Europe and Asia. The difference is while they came here to stake a claim in American, to become part of the American fabric, these radical arrivals from south of our border seem to be staking a claim OF America for the folks back home. Call me crazy, but I don’t think we have been invaded as much as it looks like we are being colonized.

DUI Illegal Immigrant Offenders Won’t Get Deported
    Thu, 04/17/2008 - 13:39 — Judicial Watch Blog
A law to deport illegal immigrants who commit drunken driving offenses was defeated by Democratic lawmakers in a state where dozens of innocent Americans have been killed or critically injured recently by illegal aliens driving under the influence.

The bill was introduced in the California Assembly after a drunken illegal immigrant struck a mother of four (Sara Cole) as she loaded her sons’ bikes into the family car. The severe blow crushed the northern California woman’s legs, leaving her partially paralyzed. The illegal immigrant driver (Lucio Rodriguez) had a previous drunken driving conviction, a suspended license and a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Multiple illegal alien offenders like Rodriguez will remain protected from automatic deportation in California thanks to Democratic lawmakers, who joined forces this week to defeat the bill known as Sara’s Law. The two legislators who voted for the much-needed ordinance in the state Assembly’s public safety committee were Republicans with the majority Democrats voting against it.

The legislation would have required local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement when a person who gets arrested for driving under the influence causes bodily injury or property damage of more than $600 and cannot provide valid documentation of their legal status.

Attached to the proposed bill are dozens of tragic cases in which drunken illegal immigrants—many repeat offenders—murdered or critically injured innocent Americans throughout the country, including children, teenagers, young fathers and mothers. Examples include an intoxicated alien who ran a stop sign and killed a 14-year-old girl and her 4-year-old cousin, another who ran over a 31-year-old father of three while riding a bicycle on Sunday morning, a man who killed a 21-year-old woman by slamming his vehicle into the back of her sports car and a teenager seriously injured by an illegal immigrant who fled the scene but was later arrested for a separate offense.
