“Operation Chaos” For The 11th CD

By Greg L | 20 April 2008 | Fairfax County, US Congress, Prince William County | 8 Comments

I think maybe it’s a good time to borrow an idea from Rush Limbaugh, and commence “Operation Chaos” in the 11th Congressional District.  As NLS comes out with “Why Gerry Connolly Sucks, Part 8” in the latest effort to turn the nomination fight among Democrats into an all-out bloodbath (much like the 2006 nomination fight for U.S. Senate), the key is to help determine which of the two leading candidates in the nomination fight is the strongest, and start laying into that candidate in order to prolong the battle and encourage the increasingly negative tone of this campaign.

While Connolly has a pretty strong money advantage, the nutroots have definitely signed on in support of Leslie Byrne. If there was some reliable polling data here (Connolly is claiming he has a 20 point lead in his polls, but I’m deeply suspicious), it wouldn’t be too difficult to execute this. Maybe someone out there is willing to share some insight…

The beauty here is that both Democratic candidates are utterly horrible.  It shouldn’t be too difficult to drive up some strong negatives on either, or both of them.  Here’s just one comment regarding Byrne on NLS, that shows how vulnerable she is on this:

In between bids, hearken back to what a disaster Leslie Byrne was as a legislator: she lost a congressional seat she drew for herself after only one term, then when she won a seat in the Virginia Senate, her Democratic colleagues threw her under the bus and collaborated with the GOP to draw her into a seat with another Democratic legislator.

Oh yeah, and she came within an inch of calling Mark Warner a racist.

And here’s what RasingKaine is saying about Connolly:

Shortly after I received my assessment, I read that the County was reevaluating its 2008 tax estimates — but only after thousands of complaints were lodged by outraged homeowners. Then, a couple of days ago, I received a new estimate from the County.  My property still had appreciated by 14%, but this time the appreciation was divided equally between the land and the house. Mind you, the size of my land parcel has not somehow magically increased or decreased since I received the original real estate tax assessment.  Nor have I remodeled or added an addition to my house. My neighbors also received their revised tax estimations with approximately the same changes.

All this has left me outraged — not by the increase in assessed value itself, but by the reasons given for the increase.  I mean, if our County is suffering monetary shortfalls, then the least Gerry Connolly could do is be truthful with us. If the County truly needs to raise more money, then it should publicly change the calculations it uses in determining real estate taxes. Yes…this would be “raising our taxes.”  But at least it would be a truthful, open and honest approach to dealing with the County’s problems — not Gerry Connolly’s cowardly smoke and mirrors.

As it is, instead of honestly and openly raising taxes, the County has used an increase in property values as a backdoor way to achieve the same result and hope that people wouldn’t notice. But this doesn’t even make sense - one zip code with increases of 14% surrounded by communities with varying degrees of depreciation?  Perhaps that is not unlawful, but it is certainly dishonest.

By the way, I am not writing this as someone who is a longtime Gerry Connolly hater. In fact, I have previously voted for him.  Unfortunately, this June 10th, I will not have the opportunity to express my displeasure with Gerry Connolly at the ballot box as I live in the 10th congressional district. However, if the opportunity should ever present itself again — whether Gerry Connolly is running for chairman of the board or dogcatcher — you can be sure that I will not be voting for him.

This could be a lot of fun.  What can we do to encourage as much mudslinging among Democrats in the 11th Congressional District as possible?

    Enjoy your pleasure, sir.

    This is a historic year.

Gas will make it to $4.50 before Bush is gone.

( 95cents when he took power.)

How much is it to commute to dc from PWC?

    choctaws,

That’s really great, commenting about gas. WHy don’t you talk about what you nutroot leftists have done to help increase supply (and therefor lower price)? Oh, yeah, yo oppose anything. Just keep thinking that power “comes from the plug.”

I wish we could do an “Operation Chaos” in the 10th District as well, but it seems someone is subjecting Tom Wolfe (to paraphrase another leftist nutroot robocall), er, Frank Wolf, to a primary.

Not NEARLY as much for my Prius as it must be for your gas-guzzling SUV (or is that a tricked-out truck?).

    1) He didn’t take power. He was elected.
    2) Has nothing to do with him. Oil is traded on a global open market. China and India have a big middle class now and they want their toys (SUV’s and gas to run them).
    3) The Dhimmicrats said they would rein in gas prices back in 2006. They didn’t. They can’t.
    4) NVCC teaches Econ-101. Might help you out.

You are certainly right about one thing: this will be fun. Great fun to see the republicans lose yet another election in Northern Virginia.

es_la_ley…add in that gas hasn’t been 95 cents/gallon in about 15 years…so either choctaws additionally needs a civics class to learn that our presidents only stay a max of 8 years, or a math class to learn how to count.

or an elementary picture book of all the Presidents so that choctaws can see the difference between Presidents #41 and #43.
