The PWBOCS meeting ran a little late (until about midnight) leaving me with little time to come up with posts.  There’s good news from the budget mark-up session that I’ll have for readers when I get a chance.  In the meantime, feel free to chime in on happenings in Pennsylvania, the PWC budget, and whatever else has come up while I’ve been out…

    Don’t undermine your own resolution
    Potomac New, 4/23/08

I expected interest groups that aide illegal behavior to use the county’s budget deliberations to undermine support for the illegal alien enforcement initiative, but I did not expect members of the County Board of Supervisors to join them.

The fact is the initiative is a success and has already paid for itself, even using the bloated figures that Chief Charlie “kicking & screaming” Deane uses in his transparent attempts to discourage the board from enforcing the law.

A few weeks ago, PWC schools announced an ‘unanticipated’ drop in enrollment of 600 students. The savings from this reduction in enrollment — which just happened to coincide with the implementation of the board’s enforcement policy — was $6 million, which pays for the anti-illegal enforcement program.

As the illegal community responds to the fact that PWC no longer tolerates illegal immigration, the self-deportation process will continue, resulting in lower school enrollment figures; reduced demand for free health care at county clinics and other reductions in demand for county services — meaning additional savings.

As for the county’s damaged reputation among the business community, this makes me laugh. Businesses that depend on a customer base that exists because of illegal behavior may indeed experience economic setbacks, just as pawn shops that fence burglarized goods feel the pinch when the police step up burglary enforcement. But so what? Businesses that target citizens and don’t exploit employees are having no problems with the program.

Our reputation is probably suffering among members of the radical, far left, socialist and open borders community, but I could care less. And if a company decides not to locate to PWC because it will be difficult to hire an underclass of exploited workers, I say good riddance.

The board did the right thing when it unanimously voted in favor of implementation of the illegal alien enforcement initiative. I paid over $5,000 in property taxes in PWC last year. I will probably pay about the same this year. I expect that money to be used wisely and enforcing the law should be a top priority.

Obama is evil and the whole pied piper mentality of his cronies and fanboys really creeps me out. There is a side to this guy that the media has not shown you yet and he is the 3rd AntiChrist imo.

A Frederick (MD) County Commissioner is doing the right thing:

    The Associated Press
    2008-04-23 10:56:56.0
Current rank: # 2,641 of 18,177 The Examiner

    FREDERICK, Md. -
Frederick County Commissioner Lennie Thompson has proposed that next year’s county school system funding be based on a good-faith effort by the school board to count the number of students with questionable immigration status.

He says the count would not identify a student by name.

Thompson says the idea is to gather information to determine how many students whose legal status in the country isn’t reasonably documented.

School board president Daryl Boffman is opposed to the idea. He says withholding funds for the schools based on the count would punish every student, not just those in the U.S. illegally.

Boffman also worries the head count could cause illegal immigrants to remove their children from school.

I am miffed as to why many of our elected officials on the BOCS, are refusing to put the citizens of PW ahead of the needs of government.

Let me make this perfectly clear…you don’t raise taxes in an economic downturn. You don’t expand government to the max when times are good because everything that goes up eventually comes back down.

Everyone I speak about the property tax rate needs financial relief, and with the steep decline in values, why should we continue to pay an overly inflated rate as we did in previous years?

Cut jobs at the county-PERIOD. If things are slow, we don’t need the same number of staffers.

Elected officials who believe that raising the tax rate above .92 cents is in the best interest of “the people” is completely out of touch, and not competitent to hold public office.

I hope you will join with me and let your supervisors know, enough is enough. Please support Chairman Stewarts .92 rate plan and tell your supervisor that you expect them to do the same.

Government spending is out of control. We don’t have to go along to get along folks. You have a voice…use it!

I have recently noticed that most of the school buses have only about 10 kids in them. It is not my intention or suggestion that we cut bus driver positions, as they are necessary. I also notice that parents drop their kids off by the hundreds, creating traffic log jams around every school; even in Fairfax County. I don’t know why this occurs. What the heck are the buses for if most parents insist on driving their kids to school? Are that many kids banned from the bus for bas behavior? I wouldn’t think so. Are the kids always late to catch the bus? Maybe. If we pay for the school buses, then why can’t they get the kids to ride them, or pack more of them into less buses?

You will need an average of $150 per month to fund the anti immigrant
program. If you really are believers that this is the right and good thing, you wont complain.
The folks who dont support you will also pay 150$ a month.

    MD Man:

It looks like Frederick and Prince William Counties are conducting a classic pincer manuever against Montgomery, Fairfax, and Arlington. Illegal aliens from the two enlightened jurisdictions will eventually settle in the Invader-friendly jurisdictions, and bring their crime, trash, anchor babies, overcrowding, disregard for laws, indecent public behavior, drunkenness, drug use, DUI, etc., etc., with them. Those counties will either fail financially, or whine to the Feds for help. Either way, it’s curtains for the Invaders. They’ll either have to return to the cesspools that spawned them, or get even more violent and intimidating than they are now with their shock troops (MS-13, etc.). I’m ready for either course they choose. In the meantime, I’m enjoying my legal and law-abiding neighbors, competent leadership, and fellow citizens here in PWC.

I called the County about that building on Old Centreville Road when it
first started going up. I wanted to know what it was going to be.

I was told it was permitted under “Hotel and Retail Building”. I asked
them if it could possibly be a day labor center. That’s when I was
told I could come in and look at the plans in the Records Dept.

The graffiti showed up when it looked like construction was halted. Once
in awhile there is a truck there, doing what, I can’t figure out.

I want to know what kind of “hotel” could be going in so close to a residential
area, with not enough ground square footage. Who thought there
might be a need for a hotel on this road?? If nothing else, it could be
    a 7/11 type of business, that’s all.

The official address is 7399 Old Centreville Road. The site plane # is
06-00378. Does anyone work at the County offices and can take a look
at these plans? I will try myself, and report the graffiti at the same time.

Something fishy going on with that building….

Greg - being a long-time lurker on this board (and anti-bvbl during it’s unoriginal short existance), I wanted going to ask you the question of tolerating racism on this board. I see it a lot, and it seems to be encouraged - not necessarily by you, but by the group in general. I think our side can win without mentioning anything about color of skin. It seems as though there are so many pointless arguements about race that only get in the way of enforcing the law of illegal immigration. All it does is fuel the opposition. I think some people in this group need to do some soul searching before using this forum as a reasonable excuse to bring hate upon Latinos. I really want to get involved with the group, but I have some reservations based on comments in this forum. However I think you are doing an incredible job.

I do this because if I didn’t, he’d be sitting on a school bus in the morning for almost 1 1/2 hrs by the time the bus got to his school. That time is better spent with him getting more sleep at home. For him, more sleep = less seizures.

Food for thought. Some time ago I heard Boon Pickens interviewed on the radio and he was asked a question concerning the escalating price of gas. His response was to the effect that, as long as oil executives look out their office windows and see lines of SUV’s at the elementary school dropping off or picking up one kid at a time, they will continue to raise the price knowing that the demand is still high and cost is not that high to effect consumption.

Officers are afraid of racial profiling complaints brought upon them, which is a viable worry for them. The county now says they don’t have the money for cameras to protect the officers from such accusations. My suggestion and I’m not sure if it will work, but why not have the police ask everyone what there immigration status is. If I was pulled over for something and an officer asked me, I wouldn’t be offended. But it is a shame in our society that the aclu looks forward to actions like these, so that they have something to do.

Undecided, many of us have tried to get people on this post to think only in terms of “illegal” and “legal” behavior, and to look at this issue only in terms of legal concepts that are not based on gender, religion, race or ethnic group. For the most part, most of us have stayed in this boundary line, recognizing the consequence of defeating the relevance of our entire message. Every now and then you get an arrogant and angry fool who also recognizes the “majority” of the “illegal” offenders also factually happen to be of a few related ethnic groups and targets them in anger, instead of the “illegal” behavior. We try to put a stop to it when we can but you can’t police every single post. Only Greg can do that, and even then I doubt it is wise to make him judge and jury.
This country invites and upholds free speech, even when it is targeted at specific groups of people, so it is difficult to shut people up when they say the wrong thing.

The kids that were watering our grass and other things were hispanics, I’ll leave it to your imagination whether they or their parents were illegal aliens or not, but you know what I think they are. It is a nautical term of course. The illegal aliens are dropping anchors, the kids are dropping “trou”.

As to the decrease, well I think we have the “rule of law” to thank for that.

Thanks again PWCPD for responding to a complaint made by several property owners about the irresponsible actions of kids while their parents watched.

    Dave in PWC,
I hear you. Maybe a guard dog would also work. It might keep the deer and other critters from treating my plants and bushes like an all-you-can-eat buffet (keeping ‘em out).

On another note, seems like a lot of M’Park homes are being bought up. That is good as there were a lot that had been empty from previous folks abandoning them from 1-2 years ago. Unfortunately, they are selling for much less than my appraisal (opening a sore wound?).

Tell me about it. I can’t refi because comps in my neighborhood came back at 200k while MP sends me a 307k tax assessment…

Criminal behavior at its best. As far as the houses being bought up, 50-1 says it is investors who plan to rent them out to the worst of the worst via section 8. Welcome to the ghetto baby. I feel it is out of the pot and into the fire, at least for me and my neighborhood.

Park’d, don’t you have an HOA in your neighborhood? Maybe you should join it and try to define the future of your neighborhood instead of sitting here and complaining about. It’s not like your complaints aren’t legitimate, don’t get me wrong - I just see you as someone who is smart enough to be able to help himself and his community. Maybe if you joined the HOA and focused on community rules, you would find yourself with better neighbors (tenants and homeowners) if an active HOA required those that lived there to follow the rules to the letter. It is something that is making a difference in our neighborhood. It isn’t making our prices come back any faster, but it is serving to improve the quality of life, slowly but surely.

Like I said, your complaints and concerns are completely legitimate. I just hope you are person that will do something about them.

Your opinion is fine, but what’s up with your riding Park’d on not getting involed enough? It’s weird…(You deemed: “your complaints and concerns are completely legitimate. I just hope you are person that will do something about them” and “Maybe you should join it and try to define the future of your neighborhood instead of sitting here and complaining about.”) .

Actually I do have a serious question for you.
If you were to give up your family-supporting job, start your own HOA, and try to block a group of people who are trying to profit of off rentals, will they not also invest in lawyers who sue your ass off to protect thier investments that will allow then to do whatever necessary in order to be the most profitable?

HOAs tend to grow into a gross abuse of government. and I am very happy not being in one. They can be great at first, until they start telling you what color my front foor must be, or what flowers I allowed to plant on my land.

Don’t know if anyone will see this…but has anyone seen the car parked on Devlin Rd. near Linton Hall Rd. with the www.bristowcommons.com sign on it? It’s petition to change that area from residential to mixed commercial…but what about if we don’t want ANYTHING built there? We certainly don’t need any more new homes, and we have a ton of new businesses going up on SR-28/Hornbaker and in the Gainesville Shopping Center area…I would really like to keep some green…some trees…help keep the deer where they belong instead of getting chased out. Anyone with me? any ideas? anyone? bueller? :)
