Don't know if anyone will see this...but has anyone seen the car parked on Devlin Rd. near Linton Hall Rd. with the www.bristowcommons.com sign on it? It's petition to change that area from residential to mixed commercial...but what about if we don't want ANYTHING built there? We certainly don't need any more new homes, and we have a ton of new businesses going up on SR-28/Hornbaker and in the Gainesville Shopping Center area...I would really like to keep some green...some trees...help keep the deer where they belong instead of getting chased out. Anyone with me? any ideas? anyone? bueller? :)

Anon (10:04):
Your opinion is fine, but what's up with your riding Park'd on not getting involed enough? It's weird...(You deemed: "your complaints and concerns are completely legitimate. I just hope you are person that will do something about them" and "Maybe you should join it and try to define the future of your neighborhood instead of sitting here and complaining about.") .

Actually I do have a serious question for you.
If you were to give up your family-supporting job, start your own HOA, and try to block a group of people who are trying to profit of off rentals, will they not also invest in lawyers who sue your ass off to protect thier investments that will allow then to do whatever necessary in order to be the most profitable?

HOAs tend to grow into a gross abuse of government. and I am very happy not being in one. They can be great at first, until they start telling you what color my front foor must be, or what flowers I allowed to plant on my land.

Park'd, don't you have an HOA in your neighborhood? Maybe you should join it and try to define the future of your neighborhood instead of sitting here and complaining about. It's not like your complaints aren't legitimate, don't get me wrong - I just see you as someone who is smart enough to be able to help himself and his community. Maybe if you joined the HOA and focused on community rules, you would find yourself with better neighbors (tenants and homeowners) if an active HOA required those that lived there to follow the rules to the letter. It is something that is making a difference in our neighborhood. It isn't making our prices come back any faster, but it is serving to improve the quality of life, slowly but surely.

Like I said, your complaints and concerns are completely legitimate. I just hope you are person that will do something about them.

Tell me about it. I can't refi because comps in my neighborhood came back at 200k while MP sends me a 307k tax assessment...

Criminal behavior at its best. As far as the houses being bought up, 50-1 says it is investors who plan to rent them out to the worst of the worst via section 8. Welcome to the ghetto baby. I feel it is out of the pot and into the fire, at least for me and my neighborhood.

Dave in PWC,
I hear you. Maybe a guard dog would also work. It might keep the deer and other critters from treating my plants and bushes like an all-you-can-eat buffet (keeping 'em out).

On another note, seems like a lot of M'Park homes are being bought up. That is good as there were a lot that had been empty from previous folks abandoning them from 1-2 years ago. Unfortunately, they are selling for much less than my appraisal (opening a sore wound?).

KP,

The kids that were watering our grass and other things were hispanics, I'll leave it to your imagination whether they or their parents were illegal aliens or not, but you know what I think they are. It is a nautical term of course. The illegal aliens are dropping anchors, the kids are dropping "trou".

As to the decrease, well I think we have the "rule of law" to thank for that.

Thanks again PWCPD for responding to a complaint made by several property owners about the irresponsible actions of kids while their parents watched.

Greg L - Read your response (I made the "undecided" comment). I owe the group an apology. I followed the rule of lurk before post, but still inserted foot. We could post baseball scores here and the apologists will still scream racism. I made my post due to a few yahoos on this site. But after diving in to the anti blog, it pales in comparison (numbers of yahoos).

I guess they are going out of their minds having to explain their craziness on a daily basis to those who genuinely ask why they are against the resolution. They must also be feeling the sting that the resolution is sticking (so far, fingers crossed) through all the budget battles.

Hi Michael - thanks for the read. I am now "Dave on Dublin" (used to be undecided).
Count me in for that way of thinking as well. I have been defending that exact point (illegal, not ethnic issue) in the ANTI blog, and while it was on deaf ears, at least it was another voice of reason, and a few others were also speaking out (someone also named Michael was really getting them wound up yesterday).

Undecided, many of us have tried to get people on this post to think only in terms of "illegal" and "legal" behavior, and to look at this issue only in terms of legal concepts that are not based on gender, religion, race or ethnic group. For the most part, most of us have stayed in this boundary line, recognizing the consequence of defeating the relevance of our entire message. Every now and then you get an arrogant and angry fool who also recognizes the "majority" of the "illegal" offenders also factually happen to be of a few related ethnic groups and targets them in anger, instead of the "illegal" behavior. We try to put a stop to it when we can but you can't police every single post. Only Greg can do that, and even then I doubt it is wise to make him judge and jury.
This country invites and upholds free speech, even when it is targeted at specific groups of people, so it is difficult to shut people up when they say the wrong thing.

Welcome Dave! It's great to see some new "faces" around here. Pull up a keyboard and heave to!

I checked out AntiBVBL myself and, for all their talk about being a fair and open forum, at least one of our folks has been deleted and I found it to be a one-sided forum where "attack the messenger, not the message" is the order of the day.

Hello all,
My name is Dave. Im new to the blog. I have spent some time watching this page and even checking out (and posting/completely wasting my time) in the ANTI.

I'm out in Sudley Manor, and we are happily considering sending our son back to public school next year (right now we home school). The grade curve was so low that our English-speaking son wasn't able to learn anything he didn't already learn in pre-school.

I have many people to thank in this forum for the hard work they have done to make this a possibility, and to make the resolution a reality.

Thanks!
-Dave

"Another log jam is the intersection of Manassas Dr. and Uclid. It isn’t as bad as the schools are not on M Dr., but there are still a whole bunch of parents driving kids to school every morning."

That's why Manassas Park decided to extend Connor drive to Manasas Drive. Frankly, I say let the kids use the bus, if they or their parents don't like the traffic jam.

Dave in PWC said "Thanks to PWCPD’s finest parked watching the kids, they aren’t dropping “trou” and watering the grass and flowers anymore."

Is that the regular kids, the PD, or the kids of illegals watering? Hmmm 60% reduction in kids. Wonder what gives?

I just read the article in the Washington Post about the county executives to reconsider the Immigration Policy in effect, because of monetary concerns; http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/23/AR2008042302199.html

Officers are afraid of racial profiling complaints brought upon them, which is a viable worry for them. The county now says they don't have the money for cameras to protect the officers from such accusations. My suggestion and I'm not sure if it will work, but why not have the police ask everyone what there immigration status is. If I was pulled over for something and an officer asked me, I wouldn't be offended. But it is a shame in our society that the aclu looks forward to actions like these, so that they have something to do.

If I was pulled over for something and an officer asked me, I wouldn’t be offended. But it is a shame in our society that the aclu looks forward to actions like these, so that they have something to do.

I"m still seeing about 20 kids at the elementary school bus stop in the morning at the bottom of Aaron and Adler here in the county. This is a big change from the over 50 kids it used to be. Thanks to PWCPD's finest parked watching the kids, they aren't dropping "trou" and watering the grass and flowers anymore.

L.King said "I drive my son who is in special ed to school every morning."

I understand there are special cases like yours, but if you just go anywhere near Union Mill on any weekday morning, there are hundreds of parents dropping off kids at C'Ville HS. They all can't possibly be in Special Ed. The entire area is a complete mess from 7-8AM.

Food for thought. Some time ago I heard Boon Pickens interviewed on the radio and he was asked a question concerning the escalating price of gas. His response was to the effect that, as long as oil executives look out their office windows and see lines of SUV's at the elementary school dropping off or picking up one kid at a time, they will continue to raise the price knowing that the demand is still high and cost is not that high to effect consumption.

Has anyone noticed how bad the old urgent care center on 234 looks? It's one of the first things you see when getting off the 234 exit, other than the restaurants and gas stations. THe grass is about knee high. The Vilichez (sp) Realty group has been promising to move in for several years now. I wonder why they don't cut the grass; it's not very good advertising for them!
