Principi Runs And Hides

By Greg L | 27 April 2008 | Prince William County | 55 Comments

Since Woodbridge Supervisor Frank Principi announced to the Washington Post that he intended to rescind a portion of the Rule of Law Resolution last week, he has refused to respond to any further media requests.  I’ve also heard from a number of his constituents who are upset that he won’t respond to their requests for information about his intentions either.  One characterized his actions as similar to dropping a hand grenade in a room and running away, leaving others to suffer the blast effects.  This might seem to be an appropriate description of how some of his fellow Supervisors on the Prince William County Board might feel now that they’re bearing the brunt of a huge outpouring of opposition to Supervisor Principi’s stated intentions.

Leadership, this is not.

Normally when an elected official launches a legislative initiative, you get more information about it than “Principi, D-Woodbridge, did not return several telephone calls for comment. ” as reported in the Potomac News on April 25th, or “Mr. Principi did not return several phone calls seeking comment.”as was reported in the Washington Times on April 26th.  There has not been a single statement by Principi reported in the press since last Thursday’s bombshell, prompting some to wonder if Principi has availed himself of some “undisclosed remote location” to hide.  Meanwhile a barrage of emails, calls, and faxes expressing citizen outrage has inundated every member of the Board of Supervisors.  The only entity that seems to be carrying this fight forward is (predictably) the editorial page of the Manassas Urinal-Massager, while the elected official that promoted this in the first place seems to have gone into hiding.

If county residents want to end this rather than simply beat back one attempt by one severely misguided elected official to derail the Rule of law Resolution, they’d be well advised to keep up their pressure.  This policy fight can endlessly continue, or we can finally be done with the debate of whether this policy should be in place, but that will require residents to make it obvious to their elected officials that this debate should be over.  If you’ve contacted the board, contact them again.  Send your emails to bocs@pwcgov.org, and make sure you follow up with a phone call, and by all means plan on being at the boad meeting on Tuesday afternoon and telling the board in person how you feel.

I have contacted the BOCS and have told them NOT TO FUND THE RESOLUTION. I reminded them that Greg and his followers have already accomplished what they wanted to accomplish. I reminded them that Greg reported that the neighborhoods were now safe, people could stroll with their children around the neighborhoods, the fear is gone, children could play outside, overcrowding had been eliminated, that Prince William is now a “jewel” in the area and houses are beginning to sell. So why spend the money on something that is no longer necessary. The funds could be used to fund school programs, give teachers a raise, maintain the employment of County employees facing layoffs, etc. Does not seem like a good idea to flush good money down the toilet. Besides that the police are doing a wonderful job in arresting criminals and taking them to the ADC where status is checked. In addition, I told them they needed to spend some time and energy in stablizing the community and restoring the reputation of the County.

Thanks for once again providing quick email links Greg. I just sent my emails to the board and Principi.

    Good idea….
Greg and his followers have just started proving their point.

Why should PWC be responsible for the supposed damage done by MWB/WoodbridgeWorkers/UIC and others who spread fear among all immigrants from the beginning of this issue, which is about illegals. They quickly organized themselves into a vehicle of distortion an extortion. They spoke at citizens time in October, unwittingly addressing the original version of the Resolution which was no longer pertinent, brought in people from outside PWC and illegals demanding that the BOCS do nothing in response to its citizens’ concerns. It would appear that whatever “information meetings” these people attended were spun for the MWB agenda, the info was mis-translated, all (hispanic) immigrants were assured they would be targets, the people were fed the victim mentality, and, incited by the fear-mongering, useful to the illegal alien lobby. So they appealed to the humanRights commission, Linda Chavez and the DOJ, and lawyers, and, ultimately HSM (see disclaimer at end of every thread) was listed by the dubious SPL C as a hategroup. They cannot argue the Rule of Law, so they resort to ad hominum.

They are desperate, and while misrepresenting compassion, they want to justify their existence by exploiting an underclass of low-paid human beings to be the 21st century slaves.

Are you permitted to name call on this blog? Shame! Shame!

Just was curious as to why one would want to spend 6.9 million dollars on something that is no longer a problem by Greg’s own admission. According to him all the “illegals” went to Fairfax. Seems you might want to spend your money on something more important, like educating children, repairing the infrastructure, etc.

Oh! You might also want to use some of the 6.9 million to take care of all those empty properties in the County. According to your own people, it is going to cost about $30,000 per month to keep those properties up. Remember there is a 15 to 18 month lag in getting those properties sold. Guess you won’t mind the blight because you would rather spend your money on a resolution that is not really needed. Remember, your leader said things are great now!

    Principi is a coward.

He took his que from fellow Democrats Arlington County Board Chairman Walter Tejada and Fairfax County Board Chairman Gerry Connolly to stop the rule of law resolution in Prince William County - all due to the influx of illegals into their sanctuary jurisdictions.

The failures of local liberalism are coming home to roost

Interesting comment and why is it that Arlington County the only county in the whole DC area that had an increase in the value of their real estate? It certainly could not be do to the influx of illegals into their sanctuary jurisdictions could it ?

It might be an all nighter for I doubt that Stewart will limit each citizen to 1 minute as he has done in the past when he did not want to listen but he will allow a three minute because it is something he wants. He is so fair isn’t he.

Of course this would not have happened if Stewart had kept his word and fully funded the Rule of Law as he said he would, Stewart has lied so often about so many different things that you have to be a fool to believe anything that comes out of his mouth. you didn’t see Stirrup or May insisting that their be a full funding for the Rule of Law either. That might have caused a raise in taxes so the BOCS will lie again and just raise each car decal fee from 24.00 to 38.00 each. Of course that is not a tax according to May and it is not deductable on your tax return so you loose out two different ways. By the way that 800 million dollard bond issue you voted in will not be funded either. it seems the BOCS and the Government lied when they said it would not cause a tax increase and the public was stupid enough to belive Setwart and the Board.

Does it feel good when you bend over ?

It’s funny, Principi represents woodbridge, one of the most areas most negatively impacted by a huge number of illegals, yet he seeks to rescind the resolution. Perhaps he likes the name “hoodbridge”.

At least Principi can say he inherited the resolution. Nohe is 100 times worse, IMHO. It appears that he has thrown in with the hysterical housewives at the anti site.

When you express your displeasure regarding Principi, be sure to throw some Nohe’s way. He voted for it. Now he feels like he’s got some political support to vote to get rid of it. Flip-flop Nohe!

I have written to the BOCS and have asked several friends and family members who feel the same as I do to further write them and express their displeasure with Principi. He’s a Hilda Barg follower, so what did we expect from him?

As for the resolution working and stopping it now because of how well it has worked? My friends, it has worked, but we still have a very long way to go. While there are still massive amounts of day laborers hanging around, pissing on the ground, openly drinking alcohol and yelling at the women, this resolution still needs to be in effect. ICE has finally stepped up to the plate and are pulling their weight. We need to CONTINUE to remind illegals in PWC that they are not welcome here. Fairfax and Arlington need them there!

Hey, Woodbridge elected this clown, now let them wallow in their squalor. They had a perfectly good candidate in Royse who was ready to enforce laws and help them recover from years of neglect and blight at the hands of the witch yet they chose Principi instead. Shameful. What’s more shameful is that we are going to be revisiting this issue over and over and over again until a leader stands up and squashes the opposition once and for all. Deane is an incompetent who has done everything he can to usurp this resolution. The fact that there are no cameras in the cruisers already is disgraceful and reflects upon Deane as the Chief, especially considering the golden years of massive tax revenues that PWC had enjoyed until recently. You mean to tell me that during the construction boon years that they didn’t have a couple of million dollars to install cameras in the cruisers? Hogwash! Stewart should have had the courage to nail Deane to the wall for tying the need for the cameras to the resolution, but he waffled under the pressure from a few BOCS members.

Emma, Interesting idea! Just be sure and change the Subject Line to read something like, “Fund the Resolution” so that the intent is more evident to the overloaded clerks in the supervisors’ offices. The template they provide is easily changed to personalize your message e.g., “The exodus of Latino residents, documented and undocumented, is helping local businesses operate honestly and within the law. Our property values were plummeting due to the artificial ballooning which was bound to, and predicted to, deflate. The uncontrolled immigration, to include many illegal aliens, securing real estate in PWC contributed all the more to the decrease in property values throughout our county, due to poorly constructed additions and outbuildings that housed and harbored illegals, some of whom fled to our state after committing felonies in other states.

Our reputation as a thriving, diverse, and economically strong community was threatened and it will have long-term consequences, but the promise of the BOCS to uphold the law and implement the Resolution gave county residents hope that the quality of life and safety would be restored. Illegal latino residents do not ONLY spend money at Latino business establishments. Many businesses had operated on the assumption that their illegal presence would continue to be tolerated, securing the same clientele they enjoyed profitting from; and many of those businesses have not adapted to the shift in demographics.

Allowing illegal presence encourages legal immigrants to invite illegal family and friends to abide within this county and will hurt our schools and other public services, making it more likely that our citizens will leave us for counties with better schools, better reputations, and better economic prospects. Thus, our property values and our economy will continue to suffer while those in neighboring counties benefit from our loss, if you do not implement and fully fund the Resolution.

    – We must stay the course and sacrifice for the greater good - a safe, orderly, accountable community in which to live. The economic constraints we must endure now, will be rewarded in the long-run, with savings of money, time allotted to attending to the Rule of Law Resolution by the PWCPD, and county services.

    – We simply cannot afford to abandon the probable cause portion of the resolution. We cannot afford to throw away this opportunity to reverse the damage done by the influx of illegals. The jails cannot be the only source of verifying the legal status of someone who has been arrested for a crime. We have solid evidence of murders committed right here by illegals who were released by PWCPD when previously stopped under the old “sanctuary policy”, because we did not have the probable cause element contained in the Resolution. Our police officers need to continue assisting immigration enforcement thereby protecting us from dangerous criminals, who had previously been released back into our communities to commit their crimes.

    – Please read this news item from FoxNews showing the groundswell of illegal activists who want to repeat the protests in only a few days from now, demanding rights they are not entitled to and attempting to hold the USA hostage until their demands are met. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,193925,00.html

monticup the article on RE values was for the whole county or city and not by sections of a county.

Stewart and May will tell you how little they raised taxes when the vote is taken but they will not tell the truth about all the increases that the BOCS have imposed on the people of PWC. I was the one who told the BOCS how foolish they looked taking weeks to just come up with some rate to advertise which ment nothing. I have no problem with an increase in the taxes for legimite reasons and the cameras in police cars is valid. Do they need a reduction in county staff yes. Is the school system over burdened with Administrative cost yes. Should Walts be fired no but no more raises and he will leave and it will not cost us any extra to cancel his contract.

Re: “Interesting comment and why is it that Arlington County the only county in the whole DC area that had an increase in the value of their real estate? It certainly could not be do to the influx of illegals into their sanctuary jurisdictions could it”

Bob Wills - you never stop amazing me with your warped sense of logic and constant stream of self-glorified bull**it.

The increase in value of real estate in Arlington can be attributed, in part, to their close proximity to DC, access to Metro, government tenants etc. A myriad of illegals were there already, even when I left in 2003. However, the growing influx from Prince William is already causing havoc - perhaps you should sign up for one of Walter Tejada’s mental health classes for illegal day laborers before you spit your venom at the next citizens’ time.

Second, the request for cameras was as a paramount component of the Rule of Law Resolution was a ruse by Democrat Deane et al to create the platform that Principi recently grasped to kill the Resolution outright.

In neighboring jurisdictions, cameras in police cars are a normal facet of police operations. Why did Democrat Deane wait until now to request them?

Cameras were the perfect monkey wrench.

you are amusing Moller but I do not spit at citizens time at least no one has complained on the Board.

I realize that you are a new comer to N Va and to PWC so you know so little of its history and you will there for repeat its mistakes.

Stewart knew that cameras were needed in this Rule of Law was to be implemented to get the vote to have it passed but he thought if you listened to him at the budget hearing that they would only be used for immigration issues. What a fool to think that law enforcment is only for some but that about meet your mentality does it not. For PWC to have gone this long without cameras and to not have a problem is amaizing and a tribute to Deane and the officers. Now that it has been made perfectly clear to all and especialy the criminal element that there is no recording the officers on the street are at greater risk.

That warped sense of logic is called TRUTH and I am sure that you like Stewart, and the whole BOCS find that very warped but so be it.

Bob Wills, I don’t care a bit about Arlington. You have an axe to grind against May and Stewart, and I believe that it predates this resolution. You, like many others on this site, are always quick to criticize our leaders for each and every small misstep they make. We are treading on new ground with this resolution, and it is unreasonable to think that the process could have been achieved perfectly. My assessment of the big picture is that things are improving and the county is beginning to move in the right direction.

We are all very fortunate in this county that things are not much worse than they currently are in the real estate market. After being told for decades that this area was recession proof, the government allowed lenders to run unchecked. Loans with no money down, 100+ percent refinance loans, and loans without proof of income were common.

I suggest you focus your disdain on legislators like Chuck Colgan, who lied to our faces when he promised before the last election that he would “do something about illegal immigration”. His action consisted of a milktoast bill that couldn’t pass legal muster, and he supported it with all the strength of a junior senator. He has made no mention of this issue since the bill, and has made no effort or suggestion that he would offer further legislation.

Any more drop in values here in the park and I see no reason why everyone shouldn’t just walk away from their homes. 50% drop in values from the high point and still dropping. My townhouse which I paid 214k for is now assessed at the low 200’s by appraisors and still no end in sight. I bought at the bottom and at the beginning of the sales in this new development. I can only imagine the pain some are feeling who paid 350k+ for these places in 2006. If I was in that boat then it would be jinglemail time for the bank. I am still not ruling out that endgame for myself if this worthless city government here doesn’t get ahold of this situation soon. The entire town is going to consist of bank owned foreclosed properties and slum lord section 8 landlords renting to the dregs of society.

They do not make small missteps they totaly get up and LIE and have a double standard in what laws they want and how they apply the laws. I have no use for those who think they are better then others and do not solve problems.

I have no problem with the Rule of Law but for people to think that this is a latino problem they have no idea of what all is going on in this country. Stewart is stupid and pompus and can not wait to get out of PWC.

The Washpo did a good article on Greg today and about the major problem in Manassas that needed to be corrected. The problem I see with Greg is the sensationalism he uses now rather then being more factual and jumping to conclusions rather then any logic. Greg tirad over Kain stopping executions based on a Supreme Court case that had not been decided about stopping executions. When that decision came down Kain reinstated execution within a few hours but Greg has said nothing what so ever about that.

Your politicians local and state do not want to solve the transportation funding issue and the public accepts thier lies all the time.

I have spent too many years in court either as the plantif or associated with the cases and winning over the abuse of government toward individuals to think that people like Stewart or May care one bit about you or me. My tolerance for knowing lies by politicians is less then zero. If you ever learn and take the time to learn about the abuse of power by government and politicians you could feel the same way.

I brought up arlington as a dig to those who saw how much better it is in PWC while other areas are going down the tube due to illegals being their. Some will say I have a warped sense of humeror just plain sick but you best have thick skin if you want to survive in the world.

“We are treading on new ground with this resolution, and it is unreasonable to think that the process could have been achieved perfectly. My assessment of the big picture is that things are improving and the county is beginning to move in the right direction”

I agree with you and it needed to happen. The problem is Stewart has no idea of how to proceed nor did he or Stirrup think things out or work with others to come up with the solution. Stewart as I have posted is so stupid to think that the cameras in the police cars would only be used for illegal immigration stops and not for every stop. Stewart is dumber then Bush.

legal2, I will do my best to make it out on Tuesday night. I did also write personal letters to the BOCS, figuring those would carry more sway than a mass email effort, and also wrote to the City of Manassas–actually submitted a service request for removal of the Wall, and have a message from a City Council member on my answering machine that I will need to return tomorrow.

I’m not all excited about the anti-blog thing–they were beginning to bore me with the same-old, same old twisted logic. They are so terrified of generating a sound bite that might be used against them that they will NEVER concede to the middle ground in any way. It was fun to stir them up a little bit, I have to admit, but they can be pretty insulting to anyone who doesn’t completely agree with them.

It’s hard to respect people who don’t have the integrity to establish their own unique look and voice, and to be really clear about exactly where they stand. It is apparent they are using their site as a weapon to commit character assasination, among other things, and it is very sad. Time will tell us who their true backers are.

I must axe you Bobby, just where do you rank between Stewart and Bush in the contest of dumbness? Midway? That’s ok, don’t worry, just take a chill pill and relax, it’s not good for your heart.

Emma I am so thrilled that you are no longer interested in the anti-blog. You were pretty obnoxious anyway. I do not think you stirred anyone up but I do think you were pretty vexed. Talk about insults…..well you did your fair share.

Respect-what would know about respect the way you bashed people? Have fun on BVBL. It is just where you belong.

Principi and Barg are tools of the developers, big home builders and their contractors, i.e. the people making money off the illegal labor. It’s been that way forever it PWC (for the sprawl/developers, the illegal labor came later). These businesses are not liberals.

Emma, your assessment of the anti blaahg was confirmed by AB @ 8:26. I saw how they reacted to your comments on their spiteful weblog. They do have a way of taking offense with anyone who has a different opinion and turning it into a personal attack. It’s their MO. That’s why they won’t prevail with their illegal agenda.

Yes it is the same Bob Wills who has no use for politicians who give specail privledges to the Korean Dry Cleaners Assoc so that the public can be over changed and not allowing the american way of free enterprise and competition

If the BOCS supervisors passes specail zoning that would give Latino’s a right to operate a business without competetion would not Greg and his followers raise the roof??

But it is ok for the Koreans to have this privledge?

I have a fixation on costing the public money just to the benefit of a so called privledge few?

Maybe you do not care but there is no excuse for this to happen except for the incompetence of the BOCS of PWC, Fairfax and Montgomery county just in this area.

Make the banks and the realtors pay. They were the ones who caused the meltdown! Do the required maintenance (grass cutting etc.) and bill the banks and REA’s like you would be if you didn’t keep up your property and zoning got after you. A no brainer!

park’d, with all due respect, things could be much worse than they are. I truly feel for your plight, but when you look at other areas of the country you’ll see we are not truly impacted. I’m from the midwest, and I can tell you that there are areas in Ohio that would make the Park look downright prosperous.

Keep the faith; things will change. Hopefully when you bought your home you got a conventional mortgage and didn’t fall for the snake oil that the loan officers were pushing. Things will work out in time.

The situation in Manassas Park is, no doubt, far worse because it was ENCOURAGED there, right until the point where it became obvious that, if they didn’t do something themselves, they would become the recipients of ALL the illegal aliens fleeing the other jurisdictions. The problem being worse there to begin with, the solution is going to hit them harder as well.

That’s because the voters of Woodbridge chose to elect a Supervisor whose stand on the issue was suspect, rather than one who would have taken a pro-active stance in its resolution (no pun intendeded).

Is that the same for Stewart who promissed to fully support the cost of Rule of Law and then back down?

The voters of Woodbridge and PWC should be asking about the $100,000 price tag for Principi’s office renovation (see EIDNAS, April 12, Principi and Nohe Backsliding) when the budget is being cut. Did you notice Princip was the 1st sup to protest the $10,000 cut from office funds proposed by Chairman Stewart.

but madmom, what would they have after they demonstrated, overthrew their country’s government, and took control? They would have the same as they have today, nothing! The building of a country takes hard work, commitment, patience and pride.

That’s why they’re here, they want for themselves today, what you and I, and our ancestors have worked hard for over the years.
