It’s a real shame about the Culpeper elections, The current board is ruining the town, Their refusal to implement the commonsense humane solutions that are available is unbelievable.
The Herndon win is huge, though. The illegal alien lobby put a lot of effort into that election, and not only did Harlon Reece get thumped, every incumbent who got elected in the last election to deal with the illegal alien issue was re-elected.
Go Herndon
You can fool some of the voters all of the time; all of the voters some of the time. An educated electorate is a powerful force. Steve DeBenedittis is re-elected a Mayor of Herndon by defeating Harlon Reese the last councilman who voted for an official Day labor site and newcomer Jasbinder Singh. He represented the citizens of Herndon’s desire to combat the immigration invasion by closing the Herndon Official Workers Center and enforcing immigration law to the extent possible by a Town in Virginia.
Harlon Reese had the backing of the liberals in Herndon and the Virginia Muslim Political Action Committee (VMPAC) who had their own tent at the polls. Singh was soundly defeated after he proposed establishing a new formal site derived from fees charged to the Laborers and the Employers who hire them. There are only about 25-30 day laborers left in Herndon. Singh would be lucky to be able to fund a Porta-Potty with fees on the day laborers and only managed to get 250 votes. Reston Interfaith managed to get out a few Hispanic voters but they did not really have the numbers to make a difference. 9500Liberty was filming at the polls all day.

The “illegal alien lobby” does not exist in Herndon. However, instead of trying to get past what’s past, the incumbents kept at it and at it because it’s an issue that pushes buttons, whereas the really big concern for the coming Council will be the downtown development NOT immigration. The Center is closed, will not re-open, it hasn’t been a question or, rather, shouldn’t have been a qustion.
It was too bad that Nachman lost (only 10 votes less than Husch!) because he, as well as Downer, are astute businessmen and business acumen is what will be needed the next two years.
Mayor Steve is immensely popular and I hope that, with a new vice mayor, he’ll find his own voice and make his own decisions. He has grown a lot during his term. Really nice guy!
Herndon Bob,
I guess Eric Byler and Annabel Park came up your way to harass the voters. I hope no one interviewed with them. It’s not worth giving them time of day.
Why is 9500 Liberty allowed to film at the BOCS meetings? Is anyone allowed to film there? Were they given a “pass” because they initially claimed to be unbiased “documentarians,” a claim they can no longer maintain?
