John Hager’s Endorsements From Democrats

By Greg L | 16 May 2008 | RPV | 3 Comments

John Hager has been busily trying to tally up endorsements for his re-election as Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.  In the midst of this effort, he managed to get endorsements not only from Mark Warner, but Dickie Cranwell.  So far there hasn’t been a solid explanation of why an endorsement from a Democrat running for the United States Senate and the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia would be helpful, nor why these Democrats would prefer John Hager to be at the helm of their political opposition.  I can hazard a guess or two, however…

From the Daily Progress, reporting at the Shad Planking:

Former Lt. Gov. John Hager, who serves as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, introduced the trio to the crowd at the Wakefield Sportsman’s Club. Warner won the coin toss, and went first. Warner offered his endorsement of Hager, who is fighting Del. Jeff Frederick for the chairmanship.

Next, from an interview with Dickie Cranwell on the blog of the Family Foundation:

I consider John Hager a friend and enjoyed my years of service with him in the General Assembly. He is a good, decent, hard-working man who the Republicans would be smart to re-elect as party chair.

Does anyone else come to the conclusion that Democrats are more concerned about Jeff Frederick running RPV, rather than John Hager?

Interesting observation and one worth consideration, Greg. I posted and linked at my site.

It is also quite possible that they did this because they want the opposite to be true. Don’t you think Warner and Cranwell would know this would piss off party activists?

I tend to put the Cranwell comment in proper context. One that goes beyond the sleazy partisan dimension that some live in… It is entirely possible for men to co-exist within the fabric that is politics…and disagree on subject matter….but still retain civil and social ties to their opponents that even resemble friendship on some levels. Jeez…lighten up.
