What Part Of Illegal Doesn’t McCaffrey Understand?

As a former resident of the Peoples Republic of Arlington, I got to know Arlington Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey pretty well. I’d often sit with him at Arlington County Junta (Board) Meetings and cringe in unison at some of the ridiculous liberal policies, like their day laborer center in Shirlington that the all-Democrat Board set.
Regarding the recent Washington Post article concerning the uproar from Arlingtonians over County Board Chairman Walter Tejada’s plan for Accessory Dwelling Units, it appears that McCaffrey doesn’t understand the “immigration” or illegal alien variable of the measure. McCaffrey claims on his editor’s blog that a number of key Arlington “poobahs” were concerned the Post story focused on the “immigration” and “race” aspects of the Accessory Dwelling Unit controversy.
I was chit-chatting with a number of Arlington poobahs yesterday (big names, I promise you) and to a person they were irked that the Post story focused on immigration and race as a key component of the AD controversy.
Perhaps McCaffrey should start listening to the citizenry concerned with the influx of illegals from Prince William and other areas instead of the big name DEMOCRAT poohbahs seemingly in big denial over this growing issue in Arlington.

If they keep it up I get the feeling that a Help Save Arlington may appear before long. It would be great fun to watch the ‘diversity’ crowd turn on each other while we peacefully enjoy the fruits of our Resolution!
I was thinking about this idea of ‘diversity’ and it seems to me that it runs counter to our coined phrase of ‘E Pluribus Unum’ or ‘Out of Many, One’. Diversity seems to stand for ‘Out of Many, Many’. That may indeed be the biggest part of the social problems we face. No one wants to come together with one common interest. That common interest used to be that we all honored, respected, and celebrated America, being American, and the values that America was founded upon. Each morning in school we pledged allegiance to the flag, the American flag, and it wasn’t optional. At lunch the speakers played the Lords Prayer. Immigrants at the time were proud to do the same, because by doing so they felt that they were part of the whole, E Pluribus Unum. Now days with all this ‘diversity’ indoctrination we are just a land full of immigrants that remain immigrants. We can’t even get people to try and assimilate, because we keep pounding home this idea that to assimilate and become one is somehow an anti-immigrant effort bordering on racism. It’s the unity of the people of this great nation that made it great, and gave it the meaning behind what is was to be an American, otherwise it would have remained simply a land of immigrants. I fear that we are turning into just that, a land of immigrants, and nothing more.
Anonymous may be onto something with the suggestion that the time for a “Help Save Arlington” movement has arrived and the Arlington “poobahs” should best change the subject. There is already ample evidence in certain neighborhoods that undocumented accessory dwelling units have long been established prior to Prince William County’s more recent exportation.

Right on the money, Anon. This country started out as colonies, moved to states, and then united as a nation. There has ben a reverse process going on for some time. When they started hyphonating your ethnic origin with your citizenship to promote “diversity” some time back, the alarm should have rung loud and clear. This current ” invasion” of illegals and the feds reluctance to resolve it with existing law shoud be seen for what it truly is. A federally supported colonization of our country.
I agree…how will we ever get past the divisiveness in our country unless we squash this whole “multi-cultural” movement. What matters is that you’re here now; that you’re an American now. Doesn’t matter what you look like or what your native language is (or what your grandparents spoke), you are an American now. Other countries admired our melting pot of cultures that, while still retaining some “old world” feel, had been invigorated with a shot of Americanism. Mexican food in America is distinctly American when compared to food in Mexico; same for Chinese food, Thai food, and German food. Has some of the same look and feel, but is definitely American once compared to the original. And it’s a good thing. Just like those stupid eHarmony or other Match-UP dating sites, it’s how much you have in common is what makes it work. Once people start focusing on their common denominators, the less they’ll look at each others differences with distain. I don’t walk around saying I’m an Anglo-Lithuanian-American…besides sounding ridiculous, it’s just not correct. I’m an American whose (great) grandparents hailed from the British Isles and Eastern Europe. So unless you were born in Africa or Asia or Europe or somewhere else and came over and are now a citizen, there is no reason to call yourself Korean-American, African-American, etc. If you were born and raised here, you are an American. End of Story.
