Manassas Park Election Deadlines Loom Quickly

By Greg L | 28 May 2008 | Manassas Park | 9 Comments

If you’re interested in fixing the mess that is the Manassas Park City Governing Board, the deadlines are coming up quickly and no one is making much of an effort to let people know what when deadlines are approaching.  The Manassas Urinal-Massager has published the call of the Manassas Park Republican Committee as required, but hasn’t reported on either that, or the requirements for running as an independent candidate.  You’d think they have an interest in maintaining the status quo by their utter lack of even the barest coverage on the elections in Manassas Park.

The Manassas Park Republican Committee will have a “mass meeting” on June 1st at Manassas Park Middle School to select a nominee for Mayor and four nominees for the Governing Board, with registration starting at 1:00PM.  Participants in the “mass meeting” do not need to be members of the Republican Committee, but must be registered voters in Manassas Park.  Anyone who would like to a candidate for the nomination must file a “pre-application form” by 5:00PM on Friday, May 30th at 253 Cabbel Drive, Manassas Park.  To get a copy of the form, contact Bill Wren at billwrenok@earthlink.net or call 703-409-7650.  For some unknown reason, the full text of this call is not available on the website of the Republican Party of Virginia, and the Manassas Park Republican Committee does not maintain a website for citizens to obtain this call, related forms, and other information about the candidate selection process.

If you miss this deadline, you can still file as an independent candidate by June 10th with the State Board of Elections, but you have to submit a petition with a minimum of 125 signatures in addition to your paperwork.  It is far easier to get selected as the nominee of the Republican Party since the incumbent Republicans have all decided to run as independents, and the field is pretty open at this point.

The Manassas City/Manassas Park City Democratic Committee has not announced their process for selecting nominees yet as far as I can tell.  There are some residents who have expressed an interest in obtaining the Democratic nomination, but with such terrifically non-existent news coverrage on this, it is hard to tell whether there will even be a convention or mass meeting to select nominees for the Democrats.  They may intend to endorse independent candidates, provided there are any that appeal to them.

The consistent complaint that such voter apathy exists in Manassas Park is not at all addressed by the media’s total lack of interest in informing the public about elections in Manassas Park.  A local paper keeping citizens in the dark about the elections process for their local government is utterly abominable.

PWC Police Chief “Good Time” Charlie Deane is at it again. This rogue cop who does as he pleases without regard to the intent of the Board of County Supervisors has finally gone too far.

Although his poor performance, insubordination, and coddling of lawbreakers are all good reasons to demand Chief Deane be replaced, it’s going to take a scandal to remove someone this firmly entrenched in county government. It’ll probably take another week or two for that to come out, though, at which point his demands will stand a much better chance of being honored.

What’s this got to do with elections in MP? What has Deane done now? (or not done)

Lady liberty, I’m going to repeat my question from an earlier thread: Are you the SAME lady liberty from New York who spoke at the PWCBOS citizen’s time in opposition to the original “Rule of Law” Resolution and, if so, did you recently move into Manassas Park? If you are that “lady liberty,” are we to assume that the illegal alien lobby is planning on being at that Republican Mass Meeting in force?

No, No, and No. I have never spoken at a PWCBOS meeting, I am not in opposition of the Rule of Law Resolution and I did not just move into the City of Manassas Park. Re the illegal alien lobby- I have no idea if they will be coming out in mass-why would they upset the applecart- whoops - food cart- MP already sends messages of being a sanctuary city…Hope this eases your mind a bit..

Thank you for responding lady liberty…and I mean that. You have to understand, the woman to whom I refer was a real nut, running around in a Statue of Liberty costume…and she literally came from NY specifically for that BOS session as part of the illegal alien lobby. Given that information, I trust you understand why I felt it necessary to ask that question until I got an answer! :-)

[Ed note: sorry for not chiming in later, but that lady wearing the Statue of Liberty costume is the person pictured here. Her name is Sue Frankel-Streit.]

Actually, AWC, I think the dirt bag came from some commune outside of C-ville, VA.

If she did, Advocator, she lied at the Board meeting…she gave her residence as New York.
