Greg - can we rally this group into showing up at a 7/11 one Saturday morning (I'll be there!) and just hang out for a couple hours? We should have at least 100 people. To keep the numbers of us and "them" even, you know. I would love to see what happens to us.....

Should we pee and drink in public, too? Just a thought......

Ah, riding to Hoodbridge Saturday morning, around 8:15am....first thing my son says when we turn the corner onto Rt. Uno and see about 30 men hanging out at the 7/11 was "WHOA!".

I said - THAT'S why we are not working right
now - those guys right there.

Then, less then oh, 5 blinks down the road, ANOTHER 7/11 with ANOTHER 30 men PLUS one woman hanging out.....it took everything I had to not pull in there and start screaming.....

(What happened that 7/11 thought it would be good to have 2 stores so close to each other, on the SAME SIDE OF THE STREET? Location, location, location....)

My frustration with this crap is up to HERE. Why
are they allowed to mob like this? Why are they given a pass that they would NEVER give to 30 white men or 30 black men???

I'm sick of it and sick of watching police crusiers go by like there's nothing wrong with this picture. Are their hands really tied or is it up to
the individual officer to do something?

I know they cleared these guys out of the 7/11's in the Yorkshire area. Why can't they do it at these two infamous 7/11's?

Oh, and nice "welcome" signs at 2 restaraunts we passed....both Latino, and both had their knotted up curtians in the windows.....I'd laugh if it were so depressing.....

The MARK WARNER "ad" on the side above "CATEGORIES" says:

"JOIN THE INSANITY"

"Paid for by mental patients"

Is that supposed to be funny?
If it's true, who are the "mental patients"?

Maybe your ad manager doesn't know that "mental patients" have an illness, a serious illness.

I find it hard to believe that Greg would allow it be used in this manner on his blog!

I had to get away from the blogs because of the fact people are interested in just talking and not taking action. I am all for action, we have talked this to the point that the horse has been beaten beyond all recognition.

With this said, let me know how I can help spark the movement to get the day laborers taken care of at the 7-11.

Thanks to all who wished me a welcome back!!!

Who got the 60k post?? We need to recognize them so I can have an award winning brother or sister :)

Peter G, go find out for yourself. Call the school or check with the local papers. Why do you need someone else to do your digging for you? If it's that important to you, get up off your brains and get the answer. Then, when you find out, you can post the results and call Greg a liar, or apologize to him if the story checks out.

DPortM, thanks! Is the wage statement something they file with their taxes? How does that expense get counted in the books for someone who is using illegal laborers? If the contractor doesn't give the day laborer any paperwork or even a name, how does the worker file that income on his tax return? (Not that the vast majority have any intention on filing)

Employers - even those using day laborers - are required to file out a wage statement for the laborer. Greg can give you more information.

Are contractors legally obligated to ask for proof of eligibility to work in the USA when they pick up day laborers or is there an exception for them? If so, where can I find that information online?

Ducky - welcome back! I don't have a problem with McCain's stance on the war.

I have a huge problem with him selling out the American people by supporting amnesty. How can conservatives resolve that issue?

This is not a pot shot - please explain how we can support McCain's position on amnesty as well as the fact that he is pandering to La Raza and other anti-American groups so he can attain the Latino vote?

I would remind the McCain haters that about a year and a half ago, the Senator took a bold and courageous stand to support President Bush's troop surge in Iraq. He did so at great political risk to himself, whilst all the liberals were demanding an immediate surrender.

That surge is now paying off big dividends. Violence there is down and we are closer to victory in Iraq now than ever before. Why give up now? We cannot afford to lose this war, as it would have grave consequences for our nation's security.

What McCain did is called Presidential leadership - taking an unpopular stand on principle.

I am shocked and outraged that so many so-called conservatives would be willing to cowardly sell out our own troops in favor of surrender to our nation's enemies.

I'd take VRE in a heartbeat if I could. The cars are nice, seats are comfortable; what's not to like? I only wish it ran to Rosslyn. You can take VRE to Crystal City, but walking to the metro, getting in the station, and taking the short trip to Rosslyn takes almost as long as riding from Manassas to CC.

I did not mean to imply you should take VRE but I know several people who drove to work when they live within a mile VRE station and work in Crystal City. For those people, I feel no sympathy for when they complain about gas prices or commuting time.

Anonymous said
"If your not and you work in area that is serviced by VRE, maybe you should consider stepping up and riding it yourself instead of expecting everyone else to get off the road for you."

Thank you for the correction. I never intended to imply that everyone else get off the road. If VRE, or for that fact any other means of public transportation, that would take me to Fairfax or Vienna, then I certainly would use it. Alas, none exist, so I must drive to work to pay my MP property tax. There was just a lot of extra traffic that could have been avoided if only the testing was done, say, like on Saturday. Make sense?

“If your not and you work in area that is serviced by VRE, maybe you should consider stepping up and riding it yourself instead of expecting everyone else to get off the road for you.”

Make sense?
