The Woodbridge Chicken Ranch Update

By Greg L | 30 May 2008 | Crime, Prince William County | 72 Comments

Readers have been interested in what’s happening in the saga of the Woodbridge resident that is living near an un-permitted chicken ranch, so I contacted the Woodbridge resident in question to get an update.  Despite complaints, the fowl are still there, and it seems that the story is getting a whole lot more interesting.  The Prince William County Police Department better get their act in gear here before citizens start again embarrassing them during citizens time at a Board of County Supervisors meeting with evidence of this rampant illegal activity.

They (the power chickens) are still there - but Saturday our other English speaking neighbor called us to ask if we heard the music blaring from next door house between us.  I told her it was (perhaps) to drown out the noise of the birds being slaughtered and the chickens in a frenzy, which were being quite loud in the background.  This same person is the one that has to see the property owner and his grandson walk around the yard and urinate freely, anywhere.  This resident said she was going to call the cops and complain about the noise since she had a migraine. I told her to go ahead, that they would think it was me anyway from my previous callings.

A bit later it was quiet and they fired up the “grill”.

Brief History: I was calling the police on an almost daily basis to report the cars brought in and parked on the street in the dead of night with no tags or displaying suspicious looking decals, both county and state. The couple that rents the basement (now referred to as: “the couple”) at the “ranch” next door, asked that I quit calling the law on them and their cars, telling me it is public property and they can park there.

The next day our other neighbor said that they saw “the couple” during a rain storm, who stole the radio from their Honda, and were in the process of stealing the stickers from another of their cars but got spooked and fled, leaving a knife used to peel the decals on the dash. The victims were reluctant to call the officers even tho we tried to encourage them to report the theft. They have physical proof tying them to the crime.

Two days later, While cutting the front lawn, I got to watch “the couple” install a radio into THEIR Honda. The Victim came home at the same time and also got to watch their radio being “reinstalled” in its new home.

The victims live across the street, with a fenced-in front yard if you wish to interview them - ask about the theft of the radio, stickers, and don’t forget - ask them about the “cellphone” too. I believe they have such clear evidence they could convict “the couple” with, yet they do nothing but fume angrily.

The car with the new HOT radio is regularly parked across the street in the driveway of a house for sale, a white Honda with no county or stats decals, and the tag expires in 3 days. Feel free to drive by, get photos and post them and call the car in Don’t for get to get a few pictures of the White van with the Texas tags (has a Gnome on the spare tire) - I think all the dated decals are gone.

If you are there taking pictures and they (”the couple”) come out, his name is [redacted], and I forgot her name, but the tear drop tattoo under her eye is the giveaway. [Ed note: this may be consistent with MS-13 tattoos] Maybe you want to talk to her and ask “the couple” why she left her girls back in Texas….

The “ranch” next door has about 4 to 6 chickens now - I saw and photographed the critters yesterday evening.  Look like young ones are about 12″ tall or simply another variety.

Isn’t it nice that the Prince William County Police Department has been so responsive to these reports of criminal behavior?  Let’s see here — there have been zoning complaints, reports of theft, and this is still going on?

Why no photos? All of the explanations are great, but a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. It’s not illegal to photographer your community is it? Just because some chickens or stolen property show up in the photo, oh well! From all the posts here there should be a huge library of pictures supporting the mentioned problems.

If the neighbors who are the victims of the crimes refuse to make a statement, then the crimes will continue without police intervention.

Maybe it’s time to bring in the health department.

In the past we asked for the address of the house, and it was withheld for fear of retaliation. Without an address, this is nothing but a rant without substance.

Post an address so the complaints listed can be verified by more than one or two people who live in the neighborhood. An address tells us who owns the house and who the district, state and federal representatives are.

POST AND ADDRESS and maybe you will see some action. Refuse to post an address this will continue to be “a personal problem.”

report them now for theft of the stickers, they are numbered and they’ll cross-reference the registration shown against their databases, easily proven.

contact the police about your suspicions. If you dont get any buzz from them, contact the county attorney’s office and bug them. Ensure you submit whatever photographic proof. Then go to the paper with your issues. also, ensure the address is listed on rotteneighbor.com

Yankee Boy, what is the problem with this post? People in PWC want to know about what is happening in Woodbridge and how are zoning, building, health, and police departments are handling this situation.

The police came immediately when we reported the chickens in our neighborhood - one little girl was traumatized when she was playing at the house and one of the adults came out and chopped a chicken’s head off so the family (one of many living in the house) could eat the chicken for dinner.

The chickens were gone the very next day!

There is nothing “stupid” about this thread if this is really on-going. If R4 zoning prohibits raising chickens for food (vs pets), then this is clearly a zoning violation.

If this is a “fence sitter” issue, there is clearly a health issue if the chickens have been, or are currently, bought from a source that does not have proper credentials for the sale and/or breeding of animals or poultry for human consumption.

Both of these issues should make animal rights groups and health officials groups “perk up their ears.”

Another issue of concern, depending on the number of foreclosed homes in the area, would be realtors who are trying to “move” these homes. If the driveways of abandoned homes are being used a “parking lots” for vehicles, this is a serious concern and should be brought to the attention of the realtor, bank and/or owner. It is safe to assume all three want the property sold - this will be most difficult to achieve when the properyt is used as a parking lot.

If you really want to stir up a hornet’s nest, contact PETA and ask if there are any members in the immediate area who can come over an film the “slaughter” as it happens. They are notorious for posting these films on U-Tube and other internet sites, then shaming the politicians who “run that jurisdication.”

Good luck. Say what you want about the restrictions of HOAs, but its those very restrictions that prevent things like this from happening in planned communities.

I agree totally. It is up the the residents to report things they find offensive. Obviously chickens have no place in residences like Marumsco Hills or Westgate or Sudley.

There are domestic rabbits in Westgate now. I believe they are being kept as pets but they are going to be road kill if the owner doesn’t take better care of them.

Yankee Boy, are you telling us you don’t have standards? Of course people are going to raise hell when neighbors have disregard for community standards. It disturbs one’s quality of life and lowers property values. No one but a fool would want those things for themselves or people they care about.

Illegal Deniers either say there is no problem or it is concocted. Why do you think everybody is so angry about the illegals if that is true? We are all just a bunch of racists I suppose. Yeah, you are right, it is all just made up:

    1) MS-13 doesn’t exist. Even if it did there aren’t any illegals in that gang. And even if there were so what, it is just a friendly local charity group that helps old ladies across the street and sells cookies to raise money for the homeless.

    2) Illegals don’t buy/rent houses in nice neighborhoods and then stuff them to the roof with people, leaving trash in the yard and disturbing neighbors with lewd, loud, drunken behavior. It is a vast conspiracy of their redneck racist neighbors harassing these hard workers, pelting them with trash whenever they leave their houses to go to church and school.

    3) Illegals don’t cost the taxpayer anything. ESL teachers and doctors in emergency rooms thankfully work for free and out of their own homes. And even if illegals did cost some very small insignificant amount of money the illegals are all paying their car taxes, income taxes, registration fees, etc in such large quantities that the national debt could practically be paid off with the profits.

    4) Illegals never commit any crimes. The jails here are filled only with racist rednecks.

Yeah, we admit it. We are making it all up. Darn, and I thought we’d get away with it…

    4)

Do you think I can ignore paying my county taxes like these people ignore the injunction against them for cooking and selling food from a residential property? I don’t think so, what do you think? The taco goes on and the taco goes on!

    Taco Truck Ted

I suggest you call or e-mail WTOP and join their Call To Action program. They will definitely get to the bottom of it - and make it public to boot!

Also, do you have a PG County councilman who isn’t a liberal? If so, I suggest you call his/her office and ask for his/her assistance.

Another suggestion, call a local paper with the information and see what they can do about it - assuming there is an independent newspaper in or near PG County.

Or you could call the Washington Times and ask for the reporter’s desk and explain the problem and see if they will get involved.

Have you checked to see if this “company” has a business license or a solicitor’s license in Maryland?

Finally, how about contacting Brad Botwin of Help Save Maryland (helpsavemaryland.com) and ask for his assistance? I will be seeing him this coming Thursday so I can certainly talk to him about it. If you want to get in touch, please e-mail Greg and he will give me your contact information.

    Best of luck!
