Murder In Manassas

By Greg L | 2 June 2008 | Crime, Manassas City | 80 Comments

This doesn’t sound like gang activity to you, does it?

On Saturday, May 31, 2008 at approximately 9:00 pm Omar Florencio-Vazquez, 24, of 9719 Beech Place was shot to death in the 9600 block of Grant Avenue.

The victim, two brothers and a cousin walked to the Grant Avenue Shopping Center to get something to eat when they encountered a group of approximately 10 Hispanic males. The victim recognized the group as the same individuals that beat him up two weeks prior.

The victim his brothers and cousin decided to leave the shopping center to avoid a confrontation. As they were walking back home, the group followed them out of the shopping center when one of the men from the group pulled out a gun and shot at the victim several times, killing him.

Suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’5” tall, 190 lbs, last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts.

The Manassas City Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward up to $1000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. The confidential 24-hour tip line is (703) 330-0330.

I’m sure a group of ten guys who hang around the Grant Avenue Shopping Center beating people up or killing them with firearms is something entirely innocuous, like a fraternal organization, or a soccer team, or something. I’ve really got to wonder how this roving band of murderous miscreants escaped the attention of our local law enforcement personnel.

Our prayers should go out to the family of Mr. Florencio-Vasquez.  Let’s hope law enforcement is able to rapidly bring to justice those responsible for this outrage.  Given that the victim’s relatives likely know the suspects in this case, I imagine that should happen soon.

The dangerous part is that the shooter could wind up working in someone’s home after being taken on as a day laborer. This is what happens when no background checks are possible. This is where the lack of documentation has real meaning. The illegal supporters say it’s only meaningless paper. Not so.

Well, Greg this is probably the 1st and only time that I will ever agree with you.

I live close to GTS and pass there frequently. However, I never see large groups of people hanging out together. Maybe, I see two or three all who are usually doing business there but no one just hanging out. So I am not sure that the police have either. I have the utmost confidence in the City of Manassas Police and I know they will do all they can to find this person and make an arrest. The other nine need to be held accountable as well.

George Bush should take a tip from Italy’s PM (from Newsweek): Berlusconi’s popularity rating topped 50 percent after his anti-immigration security package was revealed—up from a rating of 33 percent just four months ago. “Frankly, I have never seen a prime minister’s approval rating rise like this,” Nicola Piepoli, a leading pollster who conducted the survey, told reporters when he released its results on Tuesday. Maroni, who drafted the legislation, topped 60 percent.

    BattleCat and Advocator

Yes, yes, yes, I DO understand. It was a preventable death (as are most violent deaths), and there are no words to describe the “animals” who went after someone trying to avoid a confrontation.

What I object to is the way your write about it. In some way it shows disrespect for the victim. No one, except Greg, has mentioned the pain and sorrow his family is suffering from this despicable act.

As for preventable deaths - Look at what happened in DC this weekend! Eight (8) people killed in a place that’s supposed to have banned gun ownership.

How do you suppose the perpetrators got their weapons? The gun merchants are almost as guilty as the shooters IMO. OK, they didn’t pull the trigger, but they enabled the shooters to do so. A part of the US society seems to believe that all problems can be solved by killing, and the guns are there for the asking.

And, BattleCat, nobody embraces this kind of “diversity”, and you KNOW it.

    Krutis-
Don’t blame the gun. That’s silly. Nobody “enables” a murderer. Face it, that is their “culture”, the same culture that liberals think is OK to bring to our country. Concentrate on the core issues:

    1. A crime was committed. The perpetrator of the crime should be caught and punished by rule of law.

    2. In all liklihood, the perpetrator is probably an illegal alien. Had he been a law abiding person, he wouldn’t be here to commit the crime.

I wonder how many “witnesses” will avoid the police, fearing deportation? They fear retaliation, not deportation.

I am truly sorry for the victim’s loved ones.

How do I know that? I don’t, but I can imagine if I were in such a situation, I’d hesitate.

Fear of retaliation is what keeps the DC police from solving so many of the murders. In the Manassas case there are TWO great fears!

Yeah, Krutis. We get it. The question is, do you get it? Do you understand that this crime was totally preventable by enforcement of the Rule of Law at every level of government?

Americans aren’t supposed to think this way. We believe in innocent until proven guilty here. Period. Thats what our soldiers have fought and died for in past wars up to the present situation. Immigration status is completely unrelated to the perpetration of this crime. The two crimes are completely separate. Those who seek to tie the two together are attacking the concept of ‘innocent until proven guilty’. They are sacrificing what our soldiers died for, in order to escalate this pogrom against brown people.

I would suggest you go back and read your constitution Advocator. The constitution protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures. It really doesn’t matter what the polls say. In fact, a truly courageous leader isn’t supposed to consult the polls before defending the constitution of the United States. Otherwise, we will go the way of internment camps again like we did to the japanese.

    Krustis,

Every single criminal(illegal) supporter/apologist supports this type of “diversity”. The same folks who spoke out against the City of Manassas Family ordinance, spoke out against the County Ordinance, they followed up by speaking out against the ICE raids. Simply put, the defenders of criminals want nothing to happen to illegals, and therefore, by their own words and actions want this type of activity to continue.

Now of course the legal status of the victim and his killers need to be established, but I would not be surprised if they all turn out to be illegal.

Actually as this happened in the City of Manassas, how does the resolution even apply?? This is regarding the argument above that people will be afraid to come forward as witnesses - due to the resolution being in effect. This is a City of Manassas police matter, not Prince William County. So that argument doesn’t work in this case.

Krutis, why do insist on being so naive? If people don’t have guns to kill people, well then, they will use whatever is at hand….baseball bat, knife, sword, broken Corona bottle, machete, and whatever else your immagination can conjure up. When someone is hell bent on killing someone else they WILL find a way to kill……comprende? Or is this too complex for you? By the way, when people have guns they can defend themselves from the predatory vermin that insist on inflicting harm on the innocent. Let’s hear it for CONCEALED CARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of note, Manassas resident C. J. Angelos was killed by MS-13 members in Prince William County with knives, not a gun. The homeless guy who was choked to death in 2007 because his buddy thought “homo sapien” actually meant “homosexual” wasn’t shot. The guy let go by the MPCPD who killed a girl a day later in Manassas beat and choked her to death.

I’d suspect that firearms don’t account for even half of the murders in the area.

Your use of “merchant” implied an entity involved in a legal business, not someone fencing stolen firearms out of a van with no FFL and selling to felons who are prohibited from legally owning firearms in the first place.

You’d do well to ask where the ATF is and what they are doing to bring actual criminals to justice instead of making new criminals out of regular law abiding citizens.

Give me a break. What do you know about what “soldiers” fight for? In the wars you mentioned, there was conscription. When push comes to shove, they fight for the man on the left and the man on the right. Don’t exploit their fraternity for your own political views.

As for this current war, being fought by volunteers, the majority have joined because of deep love of country and patriotism, including the willingness to lay down their lives to maintain the freedom and liberty hard fought for by the generations before them.

I can assure you my husband and his colleagues did NOT join to encourage and ensure the safe passage of illegal alien invaders to our country. In fact, ignoring the border and the illegal alien problem is a slap in the face to everyone in military service, sent abroad to fight the “war on terror” while you on the homefront allow the domestic war on terror to continue unchecked and unabated.

The few patriots here are the only ones who are doing what they can on the homefront to support the men and women in uniform forward deployed.

Nothing sickens me more than a bunch of spineless liberal wimps who want to invoke the use of our military and the constitution. When was the last time you faced down the terrorists in person to defend your “ideals”.

    Krutis,

Actually, gang members prefer to kill with knives. They consider it more “manly” to be closer and look into the victims eyes as they push the knife in. Without guns, the victims just get to thank the gang member for taking everything away from them, for taking a father or a mother away from a child while getting stabbed. Once again, nice job, liberals, thinking you’re smarter than the founding fathers.

They swore an oath to the constitution, not to this administration. This is an unconstitutional war…an illegal war. We need more officers like Lt. Ehren Watada who have the moral courage to put their honor on the line for the sake of their country. The Army tried to nail him, but when the Judge saw that the prosecution would lose he forced the prosecution to file for mistrial which he readily accepted so that the army could file the same charges again. In other words, the army plans to keep putting Watada on trial until they finally can find some way to prosecute him. This is no longer justice. It is a show trial reminiscent of the soviet union. This is what’s happening to the integrity of our officer corp. Any officer who dares to stand up for whats right is crucified like Watada.

Hate to say it, but I work in the defense industry and know a lot of soldiers, and the ones I know have a lot different view of the war than you might expect. They feel they are making a difference, and they know some of the distortions being made in the media about the war.

Anyway, we’d have anarchy if people in the armed forces only followed orders they agreed with 100% - and didn’t follow orders they didn’t feel like following. It wouldn’t be an armed forces, it would just be an armed mob! Do you really want that?

I have attended some of his meetings where he has deliberately lied, misinformed, and distorted information in order to secure his base of followers. His ignorant followers see him as their Obama….”a symbol of hope, a future….stay with me because the gringos lie and I am your only hope”. He makes no distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. He plays on the emotions and fears of his own people….he is their own worst enemy.

    Krustis,

Sorry, I provide enough support for illegals by paying my taxes and being a responsible home owner in the City of Manassas.

    Krustis,

I don’t live in the City but thank you.

I guess I have one question: Would some of you all like it if someone talked to your mother like you do to Krutis? I really don’t think so.
My mother, God rest her soul, would have torn my tail up for being disrespectful.

    Johnson, you are a gentleman.

    Not hardly…you’ve misread your man…

The dimwitted among the populace who have cotton for brains believe the war propaganda just like the Germans in the 1930s…and a few years later their cheers of affirmation turned to screams of anguish when they saw their children forcibly conscripted and turned into ground meat on the eastern front…

But there are those of us who remember what the German people let happen to them…we know who the real enemies of our country are…and they’re not on the other side of the planet…

    Thanks, Johnson and Dolph!

I don’t live in Manassas either but feeling helpless about the situation, I felt I had to do SOMETHING to help find and prosecute the killer. I doubt that the victim’s family and friends have much cash to contribute!

Anyway, I have contributed the only way I know how. I do it because of the nature of the crime. If the report is correct, the victim tried to leave the area, so as to avoid a confrontation, yet was shot to death

Bedtime for old folks like me. Sleep well!

    Anonimousy-
And the “mousy” part is a very appropriate nickname.
Gee, when was the last time you went door to door hunting insurgents and foiling their plots? Gee, when was the last time you could speak assuredly of first-hand knowledge about what does in fact strengthen the terrorists?

You, and rlike minded appeasement fellow travelers are Al-Q’s greatest asset. They smell your weakness and your willingness to capitulate and they are emboldened.

Allowing an illegal alien population and the supporting false identity industry that supports it to flourish unchecked and unabated is a threat to our security and our nation.

What are your national security credentials that make you such an expert? When i live with, and am surrounded by, people vetted and with specific expertise and experience of 24+ years in this arena, long before 9/11, I tend to believe them and accept their wisdom.

And don’t lecture to me about the oath that they swear. I have been to many more than you I am sure as I can recite it verbatim. Unlike you, the words contained are more than symbols but have deep meaning — my husband almost didn’t come home.

But you just keep sipping your lattes and collecting smug points. Do me a favor tho, okay? Just don’t cry “where are the Marines?” when the wolf is at your door. I am sure your “love rays” , “Coexist” bumpersticker and smug liberal talking points will keep you safe.

    Anonimousy:
Watada deserves to rot in prison. He knew what the expectations were when he “chose” to accept his commission, and what the consequences were. You don’t get to pick and choose when to carry out your orders, which is why we have a professional military, not a mercenary for-hire one like a banana republic.

Chessani, on the other hand, does not deserve to be prosecuted for doing his job and is enduring an ongoing legal nightmare.

But then, guess which officer the liberal media sided with?

    Our worst enemies are within.

No one deserves to die like that.
I hope that the perps are found and brought to justice.

    Two questions for Dolph:

    1) Don’t you think you speak disrepectfully to folks on the site everyday? I can remember you calling someone a hilybilly on the site, and you are constantly pontificating as if you were better/smarter than anyone else on the site. And, you never ever apologize to anyone. I honestly think you suffer from short term memory loss!

    2) My mother would never act like Krusty does on this site. She has no qualms about sparring with others, but you’ll come running to her side if she can’t take the heat she causes. If she doesn’t like the attention then she needs to stop being so provocative with her comments.

If my mother was anything like you or Krusty I would put myself up for adoption or seek a parental divorce.

WOW - And a good morning to you too, Liela!

Speaking of disrespectful - I don’t crave respect from the commentators,(you and they don’t know me) and I can, as you say, take it. I’m like one of those old sea lions = tough, scarred hide from a long life well lived and — not over yet!

The respect I asked for in this particular case was respect for the murder victim and his family. The early comments were, in my opinion, out of line with unnecessarily snide remarks.

I have to say, though, that your last sentence definitely is disrespectful, no matter what the age of the imaginary mother might be. So, rejoice in your choice of maternal parent!

Man ya’ll people keep on blaming these problems on “gang” issues, yes, while they are considered “gangs” they are nothing but a bunch of washed up young Hispanic PUNKS that don’t know how to take it to the backyard like back in the day, and have a little scuffle and walk on about your business. Personally I feel all these little gangbangers, whether they be white, black, asian, or hispanic, they all need to be locked upand deported, but the fact of the matter is, this judicial system in the GRAND ‘OL U.S. of A. is weak and pathetic. You let things like child molestors and rapist go, alot of times you acuse women of lying or flase accusations because of lack of evidence or not reporting it right away, did you ever stop to think that MAYBE these women who suffer from these offenses JUST MAY HAVE some mental and emotional issues to deal with and gather up the courage to reach out for help, nonetheless, I was in prison and had a cellmate who was a 3-time convicted Child Rapist, not just a molestor, but he was only 32 years of age, excuse me but how many chances are you going to give those sick individuals, 3 apparently, but nonetheless I went on a roll, the system sucks, the government is weak and too caught up in WORLD issues and controlling the world and its oil, don’t care about the overpopulation in america due to illegal immigrants who most commonly just happen to be Hispanics, they don’t care about the gang issues we have now due to the HISPANICS, sorry to sound racist, I am not, just hate to see people like myself who can’t get a job because you got illegals who are working illegally and now all of a sudden everyone does background checks and YES because I am a convicted felon from back in 2001 I am suffering for my mistake, do I complain, yes, but not to the point where I resort to gang violence, drugs, and crime, so the U.S. has problems we gotta fix them point blank, and personally I feel that if we had a Good ‘ol Gen. Robert E. Lee for a president, not a dumbass Obama, this country would be fixed. I bet people look back at the Civil war, and if the Union army would see how half these people ended up acting when they got their freedom, and how they act now, well, if they could see into the future, this country would still be in tact and they civil war would’ve never been fought, and the land of the free would be a great place to live! My respects to all those people in this society who do actually work hard, whether they be white, Hispanic, Black, Asian, whatever race, their are Hardworking men and women, for the rest of you that screwed this country up, ROT IN HELL!!!!
