Obama Protest Details

By Greg L | 4 June 2008 | National Politics, Prince William County | 51 Comments

Anyone interested in protesting Barrack Obama’s visit to Prince William County may be interested in this map survey of what I believe are the prime locations to do so.  The primary location allows parking along Delinski Way, and the traffic speed should be reduced because of the railroad crossing nearby.  The alternate location allows parking at the end of Piney Branch Lane, where vehicles will be making a left turn from Balls Ford Road onto Wellington Road.

Suggested signage would include:

This could be a lot of fun.  I hope folks can make it.

NOTE: Please recognize that law enforcement has a job to do during this event, which may have an impact on the available locations.  While exercising our First Amendment rights, please be responsible about the means and manner of doing so that it does not negatively impact the ability of the Prince William County Police Department to effectively control traffic in a safe manner, nor the Secret Service from taking the measures necessary to protect public figures from harm.  We can do our thing without making their jobs more difficult, and should make every effort to do so.  Treating law enforcement with due respect and understanding for the job they’re called on to do at this event is appropriate and responsible, and I hope everyone acts in a manner that reflects credit on the citizenry of Prince William County while we express our political opinions.

What is the point of doing this? Most protests have a purpose. I fail to see the objective.

Don’t most people have better things to do? Just out of curiosity, how about a short list of people that is it politically ok to like?

The traffic back up will be torture enough, no further entertainment is required.

The real message in this for me, is that his pick for Vice-President will probably be from Virginia. Warner, Webb or Kaine would be my guess. Maybe he will announce it at Nissan.

Fade to blue: Obama starts campaign in solid red Virginia

David “Mudcat” Saunders, the Roanoke-based political strategist who has advised prominent politicians on how to reach out to rural voters, said southwest Virginia is “a logical place for him to start” because Obama will need to appeal to those voters not just in Virginia, but in other crucial battleground states.

“If Virginia truly is in play, it’s a practical move for him because he can get the western Pennsylvania bunch, the southeast Ohio bunch,” Saunders said. “It’s the same region. It’s the same bunch of people, they just live in different states.”

“These are the people around the country who decide the president of the United States, and they are neglected,” he added. “The Republicans take them for granted, and the Democrats don’t try to come get ‘em. God bless Barack Obama for for trying to go get ‘em.”

Agree with Bryanna, the traffic will be torture at Nissan
plus predictions of more stormy weather this aftenoon -
not to mention the heat. The individual(s) who
selected the location may be seeking new jobs tomorrow
morning. People “protesting” this event will simply
look petty and mean plus dumb to be out in the middle
    of the mess.

Greg seems to be able to come up with ideas that make him and his cohorts look petty and act mean plus dumb. Always finds ready listeners.

Will you, the protesters. be carrying your concealed comforters, by any chance? You know, these anti-Christ people might attack you with their big knives if they get angry enough.

    Greg,

Please change your website color to match John McLame’s new campaign colors. Green and yellow. That will give Jonathan Marks something to bitch about. (McCain’s horrendous speach on Tuesday used a green and yellow backdrop, which were similar the colors of Faisal Gill).

Also, please do not stand on the corner with a “Whitey” sign. That will make you look worse than those bozos who danced the jig when raffling off guns in a County building.

This is the typical liberal mindset. It’s OK for liberals to protest, but when conservatives want to do so there is something wrong. We need to have our heads snapped back to keep us in line.

Dolph-do your own homework. Let’s have you develop a “short list”. I’m sure you don’t have anything better to do.

Obama’s decision to campaign with Mark Warner in SW Virginia was brilliant. Mark Warner’s still popular all across the state, much more than Gilmore will ever be, and will help Obama win Virginia. Winning VA could end up being just enough to win the White House.

  20. C-Dog said on 5 Jun 2008 at 1:27 pm:

The only reason why Warner won was because Gilmore made a comment that cost him the election. And, the only reason that a Democrat would carry Virginia is because of all the MD and PA people that have moved in.

I do NOT support Obama. With that being said. I don’t understand why one would want to protest a Presidential candidate being right here in OUR backyard. I don’t recall this movement when Hillary was at Metz? The bottom line it is an HONOR to have such visitors. No matter what your opinion may of them. A protest of this sort seems foolish at best. (imho)

We should be proud as county, and the two cities to have such events right here in ‘lil ole Manassas! The red carpet should be rolled out for such historic events as we’ve had here in the past several months.

I always thought protesting was not fondly thought of on this blog. Not enough “air time” and/or “ink” for some? Hmm.

This is exactly what I was trying to express in my much earlier comment. PWC is host to a presidential candidate. It IS indeed an honor to have him visit. SOMEBODY invited him, and it was OKd by powers-that-be. Let’s treat him as a guest, please.

I was totally blown off by Greg, who went into a tirade about Obama being in with terrorists among many other other things. (would be interesting to know where Greg got his info inre the terrorist connection)

Greg felt it was his DUTY to show up this man who has a 50-50 chance of being President of the United States. Makes me wonder what Greg will suggest to his faithful, should Obama BECOME President. Start sabotaging Obama’s every move, or what?

It’s difficult to understand how people who claim to be so patriotic, have so little, or no, respect for the office! Whoever is President, the office is still the most important in the world. and the election is followed with intense interest around the globe.

    Krutis, Greg doesn’t have to”sabotage” Obama’s every move…he does
very well on his own. When the dust settles and people begin to realize
Obama is all talk and no substance, we will see a lot more stuff seeping
out about this man who has absolutely NO qualifications to run this
country. In which sand-pile have you buried your head not to have
read and heard about his ties to terrorists? Greg didn’t make this stuff
up. The thing that did it for me was knowing of his ties for the past 20
years to a so-called “House of Worship” in which the minister spews
his hatred of the white race. If Obama ends up in the oval office, it will
be because he is black…not because he is the best qualified candidate.
Haven’t we all had quite enough of affirmative action???
Further, there is no reason for me to be excited about his visit to VA,
for I find his lack of patriotism revolting (I’m sure you took your head out
of the sand long enough to see his failure to show respect to OUR flag).

    Krutis,

I am a native of PWC, and I want it to be seen in a positive light. I don’t feel a protest is going to do that. We have a chance to be shining star with such an event. Now, where’s that rascal McCain? I hope he’ll be visiting us too.

I think it boils down to respect in general, and certainly respect of any one running as our President.

I think we will see record turnouts in November. Just look at how many more have came out and voted in a primary than did four years ago for the Presidential election. I wonder if any of the nation’s Registrar Offices have already seen an influx of new voters.

I don’t have a dog in this show. I am starting to hope that Obama wins, so all of you can get a taste of what true liberals are like. No one really remembers the Carter years. You libs are wringing your hands now about the war and the “recession”; I don’t think you have any memory of the Jimmy era and how bad it was.

Obama is just what we need to usher in a new wave of conservatism. A legitimate third party is not even out of the question.

Yes, I love the flag. I received a flag after my husband died, because he was in the Army during WWII, but I don’t have a flagpole to fly it. I’m hoping, though, that one of my grandchildren will be able to hoist it and treat it with the respect that is its due. (BTW my daughter was an officer in the Army until she had children)

Just because you don’t wear the flag in your lapel doesn’t mean you don’t honor it. As a matter of fact, the flag is being desecrated in so many ways nowadays. Imagine having a flag as a bathtowel and lie on it half naked; or wear swim trunks or a sweaty bandana with the flag pattern.

I remember in the late 60s, one of my kids’ class mates was sent home because he had sewed a big flag patch on his sweat shirt. That was considered desecrating the flag in those days.

Sure do remember the Carter years. No hot water in the federal building bathrooms. Most of the time the heat or AC buildings was shut off or so low it did no good. Federal employees having to pay for parking on federal property. Then of course there is the giving away of the Panama canal, turning his back on the Shah of Iran (look were we are today because of that one incident), U.S. embassy hostages taken and held for over a year and the list goes on. Bush is one of the worst but Carter holds the alltime low.

Obama campaign, the media and Dem officials were predicting between 25,000 and 50,000 would show up.

Friday’s WashPo says there were about 10,000 there.

Nissan holds 25,000, so the place was more than half empty and they only had 1/5 of the numbers they were hoping for.
