Obama Rally Hugely Underwhelms

By Greg L | 6 June 2008 | National Politics, Prince William County | 44 Comments

I just knew that as soon as they started predicting a turnout of 50,000 people or more, this thing was going to be a complete failure.  As it turns out, Barack Obama seems to have gotten 10,000 or perhaps fewer people to bother with this event.  The ridicule for this failure has been fast and hot.  Riley at Virtucon pokes fun at the Obama campaign for thinking that Prince William County is a good venue for his “Old-Time Travelling Medicine Show”, while Bearing Drift labels this a bust.  Over at The Write Side Of My Brain, they ask “suppose they gave a party of change and no one came?”, and James Young retorts “so much for Obama fever.”  Indeed.

Now that voters are finally getting an opportunity to learn about Obama, rather than just get spoon-fed snippets of his speeches by a fawning media, the shine is definitely coming off this horribly flawed and inexperienced candidate.  Ever since stories started coming out about Obama’s long and intimate association with Black Liberation Theology proponents and former terrorists, his campaign has struggled as Democrats have started to wonder whether the audacity of hype was really as appealing as it appeared to be much earlier n the campaign. The real story of Barack Obama is coming out now, and buyer’s remorse doesn’t even begin to explain what Democrats are experiencing.

I can’t wait until the story of his real estate dealings in Chicago start making their way into the mainstream media, to compliment the convictions of his former fundraiser.  While conservatives might have thier disagreements with John McCain, and I certainly do, Barack Obama is rapidly becoming John McCain’s best campaign issue.  And Hillary Clinton is going to have the biggest “I told you so” argument in modern political history.

I see a trainwreck a’comin.

I was expecting Jimmy Buffett-like traffic yesterday on the way home. Couldn’t believe how easy it was….best traffic afternoon EVER!!! We need to get Barry Obama here more often!

The Potomac news prints tightly cropped photos but on page two
I found this statement “…the crowd was smaller than some expected - there were pockets of empty seats in the pavilion and no one on the lawn…”

This is not hardly a “rock star” crowd.

    Greg,

Have you ever had a “rock star” perform at 6 pm on a Thursday - 90 degree heat besides? The timing was very, very poor IMO.

“Complete failure” “a bust” “the ridicule for this event has been fast and hot” Sheeez, consider the sources!

Speaking of which - how did your embarassment protest go? Which signs were most effective? Were the masses with you all the way? Did you even go out and stand in the heat?

    Report would be interesting.

Glad you’re so elated that our next president was a failure and a bust. Should make for an interesting four years to come!

Let’s see. 6:00 on a Thursday evening, hmmmm. Most people are stuck in traffic on 495, 95 and 66. Predictions of 30,000 to 50,000 would have made most people think twice about attending. 10,000 is a great turnout considering the weather and reports of possible storms. 10,000 is a great turn out in a “red state”

The two most popular signs seemed to be:

    “Grumpy seniors for Barry” and

“American Traditions - Soccer, Chalupas, and Obama”.

How come we only “consider the source” when “the source” is the non-liberal media? I’ve been looking at pictures of Obama in the WP for the past nine months that make him look like those glossy paintings of Jesus that one can buy at a flea market. McCain, on the other hand, has not had a flattering picture printed in the paper since the Vietnam War.

Did anyone think for a second that the protest would have made the news? This is Obama; we could have lined I-66 from Centreville to Haymarket with protesters and not gotten any coverage.

Why is a head count so important?

Perhaps the real question should be, why did Manassas, VA get the opening kick off from Obama? Day 1 of his real candidacy and he is in Lil Ole Manassas. Perhaps it is the national attention we have gotten the past year. Or perhaps Obama wants to Turn Prince William Blue along with the entire state?

Regardless, how many in attendance is irrelevant. Why is was here is very significant.

You thing to note is the propaganda campaign that is going on and will go on for Obama over the next 5 months. Yesterday CNN reported and expected crowd of 50,000 at Nissan. The MSM is totally in the tank for Obama and will cheer for him and cover for him like we’ve never seen before.

While I under stand the history of it all, it’s really getting pretty embarassing.

The problem Obama has with white uneducated voters is they never had the fine points of race and racism explained to them by learned professors. Not having a higher education to reply upon they must substitute common sense.

1.They have a very hard time understanding how anyone with any intelligence can sit in a Church for 20 years and support ones friend and mentor week after week, month after month, year after year with his money, family and attendance while listening to Hate American, Hate whites, Hate every thing rants, (with the exception of Blacks and Muslins) and still insist that he has not endorsed and does not believe in the Message, and he has not endorsed and does not believe in the MESSENGER.
2.They do not understand why believing in God, lovering this Nation, supporting the second Amendment, supporting Article IV Section IV of our Constitution against Invasion, and supporting the rule of Law,, makes them intelligibly inferior, and the object of scorn and ridicule by Obama and his Cult followers!

When the Republicans met in Chicago on June 3, 1884,
the Rev. F.M. Bristol delivered the invocation. Not
only did he thank the Almighty for the Republican
Party; he also prayed that “the coming political
campaign may be conducted with that decency,
intelligence, patriotism and dignity of temper which
becomes a great democratic nation.” His
prayer went unanswered. Soon after Henry
Adams wrote ” The public is angry and abusive –
we are swearing at each other like demons!”
(And this was over a hundred years before blogs.)

Naive as it may seem, some of us still share the
    prayer of Rev. Bristol.

Best wishes to Senator McCain and Senator Obama
for a campaign worthy of he American people.

Au contraire, the attendance numbers are extremely important. The ‘why” is easy - this is an election year, and Virginia is a swing state. After being innundated with Obama for the past several months, it’s extremely telling that he could not pull a significant crowd. His team must have been extremely disappointed, as they selected a venue for this “special visit” that would have held many more people.

Dolph, Obama picked VA (2 speeches) because of statewide support for Webb, Warner and Kaine. He wants to ride Warner’s coattails especially.

Secondly, NOVA is building more and more blue and is quite unlike the ROVA (rest of Virginia). Combined with the city of Richmond and southwestern VA, the DNC sees VA as a very purple state, possibly turning blue in Nov 08.

As for the poor attendance, the reasons are obvious: (1) short notice (2) start time (2) widely known traffic congestion down i-66 (3) very humid temps.

If he could, Obama should have a speech on the Mall with a 2 week announcement for a Sat or Sun this summer. B/n the liberals in DC, Arlington and PG county, the Mall may very well see a record crowd.

Instead of focusing on attacking Obama, conservatives should concentrate on gaining congressional seats. With 2 or 3 justice appointments forthcoming w/i the next 4 years, I think focusing a better strategy to gain ground on Capitol Hill, is better option at the grassroots level for sure.

Obama is probably here because the state was at one time, solidly Red, but Northern Virginia turned blueish the last couple of elections, so the Dems think it’s a possible win for them.
I won’t bother with the reasons why Northern Virginia is turning blue, but it seems to coincide with the increase in MS-13 membership (not that they’re directly related, just a coincidence).

Areas that tend to lean Democratic also tend to have higher rates of social pathology (violent crime, teen pregnancy, poverty, etc.) than do areas that tend to lean Republican, from the demographic information that I’ve seen.

Why this correlation exists, I’m not sure and don’t care to speculate.

I was stopped at the intersection of the 234 Bypass and Balls Ford road, while waiting for the Commie to pass by. There were two County Motorcycle officers who were stopping traffic, and I put my window down and the one officer could tell I was miffed. He said we have Senator Obama to thank. I said well just don’t look my way when I do think him. I give Obama a big thumbs down as he passed through the intersection.

    What an idiot he is.
