Will The Human Rights Commission Break The Law Again?

By Greg L | 9 June 2008 | Prince William County | 11 Comments

The Prince William County Human Rights Commission, which has always seemed to have trouble with complying with Virginia’s freedom of information laws, is at it again.  In a press release issued today, Mexicans Without Borders informs us that United Nations Special Rapporteur Jorge Bustamante will be meeting with the Human Rights Commission in Woodbridge tomorrow at 5:00PM.  No, this does not appear to be a meeting open to the public, and no, the Human Rights Commission has not posted any notice that they will have this meeting.

Local government bodies holding private meetings with U.N. Officials.  How splendid.  How unlawful.

I learned from a FOIA request I received last summer that the Human Rights Commission understands that when they violate these laws, they’re subject to a $1,500 fine.  I wonder if Mexicans Without Borders will be picking up the tab.

Members of The United Nations Human Rights Council include Cuba, China, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bolivia and Mexico, none of which are particularly noteworthy for their respect of the human rights of their citizens.  Perhaps not too surprisingly, the Human Rights Council is planning on abolishing the Special Rapporteurs that were investigating human rights abuses in Cuba, Belarus, Burma and North Korea.  So while the desperate plight of the North Korean people, whose existence would probably rank considerably below ‘gulag’ status, isn’t of sufficient concern to bother assigning Special Rapporteurs there, the United Nations still is going to have a Special Rapporteur come to Prince William County to make sure that illegal aliens are treated with special respect and deference.

My guess is that any North Korean would be happy to trade places with an illegal alien in Prince William County.  I wonder if the Prince William County Human Rights Commission will ever figure that one out.

really? a PWC commission, supported by and paid for by county residents, who do not feel the need to have their meeting open to the members of the county that support them? isn’t that special?

and politicians wonder why citizens don’t trust them?

A fine of $1,500 sounds like a deal to ANYONE trying to lobby and get an IDEA out there. ( I am just speaking in general, common sense)

Bad publicity is better than none at all type situation. ;)

Since the PWC Human rights commission has been put on notice that we know about this “scheduled” meeting, I doubt that they would dumb enough to follow through on it. I was told that they didn’t know how the meeting got scheduled in the first place and that they were not sure ALL the members were informed of the meeting. Guess we’ll know more tomorrow when Ms. Aggrey answers some questions posed to her.

What else can one expect from an organization considering the type of person that lobbys for or is assigned to a Human Rights organization at any level? They are dysfunctional at best.

    Maureen,

If the attendance is anything like the Immigration Sub-Committee, we know ALL of them won’t be there. Remember, there wasn’t a single meeting that all of the members of the PWC HRC made it too.

I wonder if it’ll start on time too. ;)

Should be interesting to say the least.

Anonymous- I forgot about that. Also the night they were holding public comment, they didn’t let me speak officially because they didn’t have a quorum.

In view of the committee’s past performance, why in the world doesn’t the BOCS simply ummmmm dissolve/disband the HRC and establish a new one… designating members who understand and can distinguish between personal feelings, emotions, and the law.

The current HRC is akin to the formation of a PWC Against Crime committee with the membership consisting of criminals.

    Freedom,
The disbandment idea is the best I’ve heard in awhile.

Let’s not forget that the Chair of the HRC has been right on the stage with MSF at Sir Sean’s Plaza behind the McCoart Bldg.

    Maureen,
And I forgot about you not be able to speak. Now, as I think back about this. I ran accross my notes from those meetings last weekend. They made my blood boil all over again.
Anonymous was me. I didn’t mean to post that way.

I hope that great example of rational debate, Kate Gotthardt is there to speak. She brings so much class to the discussion, as expressed in the comment thread which appears on the anti site, or as I like to call it “Hysterical Housewives who could benefit from Hysterectomies”:

    “kgotthardt, 10. June 2008, 9:07
Holy x#$& (edited by this poster, due to profanity). That video literally makes me naseaus

    …and not just because I look fat : )

    Him with his kids….

I gotta get outside for some air.

    kgotthardt,

your last comment, regarding Mr. Leticq and his children reminds me of a school house in summer…..NO CLASS! I won’t cut and past it, because in addition to being low-rent, it contains profanity.

I think you meant to say that the film made you “nauseous”, but spelled it wrong. And as someone who claims to be a writer, you should know that one cannot be “nauseous”. One can be “nauseated”. A “nauseous” substance is what causes one to be “nauseated”. But maybe you are indeed “nauseous”, since your comment regarding Mr. Leticq caused me to become “nauseated”.

    Ed,

That’s because KG has no class. She is so quick to call others names and make fun and be mean spirited, but she has no tolerance when it is thrown back at her. Typical of KG - take a jab, but then cry that she’s being “attacked” when someone throws it back at her.

    kgotthardt, 10. June 2008, 11:14
    Ed and You Wish….

    WHAT-EVA.

I never claimed to have “class” nor do I care about it.

Excuse me. I have to go fart now.”

There you have it. Kate Gotthardt in her own words.

Kate, your phone is ringing. It’s Jerry Springer. He would like for you to appear on his show.

Will The Human Rights Commission Break The Law Again?

I don’t know, but this illegal taco business will break the law again tomorrow by not paying any county, state or federal taxes on any of the tacos sold tomorrow.
