Holy Moley!
By Greg L | 23 June 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime | 28 Comments
You can’t possibly make this stuff up — no one would ever believe you. But in this week’s “truth is stranger than fiction” story, a pregnant sixteen year-old illegal alien from Guatemala was assisted in obtaining an abortion by a tax-exempt charitable organization in violation of Virginia law and federal policy. The name of the charity responsible for this outrage?
Commonwealth Catholic Charities.

Not to mention church law!
Wow. How’s that for hypocracy?
How about that tax exempt status?? Need to take that away if they are offereing those kind of services. Don’t believe it is one related to their belief system.

One blessing - one less anchor baby!!!!! (sarcasm)
No hospital expense, no extra food stamps, no sick baby in the emergency room. Maybe you ought to give some money to the charity in question.
Why don’t you just crawl back under that rock!!
It still boggles my mind that Churches are exempt from taxation. Either we’re equal or we’re not.
My unsubstantiated guess as to why they did it was that while the minor was under the care of the Charity she got pregnant and that the Charity deemed that it was less costly and/or would be an embarassment for them to be associated with taking care of a minor that got pregnant during their watch.
It’s a mess anyway you look at it. But, churches should not be tax exempt especially if they have a political arm.
To continue Anchor Baby’s comment “It’s a mess ….”
Unsubstantiated thought - Maybe the father was one of the celibate fathers.
This is really going down hill and I’m adding to it. I admit and atone.
I think you are all sick!
Hi this is Juan from Juan’s Tacos. Please do not say you got sick at my taco house!

How do we know it wasn’t rape or incest? How do we know judicial by-pass wasn’t involved. Perhaps there was a compelling reason. Who knows.
No anchor babies. No abortions. No federal money. This creates quite a conundrum doesn’t it?
The Washington Times
The unnamed girl, who already had one child, had been fitted with a contraceptive device provided by CCR two months earlier, the letter said. CCR members signed the consent form necessary for a minor to have an abortion and had someone drive her to and from the abortion clinic.
Perhaps a medieval chastity belt would have been the better choice.
Looks like more federal and corporate funded assistance to illegals to me.
“Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program serving the needs of unaccompanied children from around the world”
It is hard to believe the Catholic Church has engaged in both abortion and birth control through its charities. Both of these are forbidden by Church law. I am not one to throw stones, God knows I have my own demons and sins in this life but this is a big issue, not an individual problem.
They are just getting the other scandals behind them and now this. It can shake ones faith to the roots that the Catholic Charities is just like politicians - do as I say, not as I do - and - I’ll do anything and sell whatever for votes and money. I guess that is the “compelling reason”.
Not much difference in this than Jorge Bush selling our birthright out and now Juan McCain making promises outside of United States Law and Code. I guess that is the power of the Presidency. I think I’ll vote Bob Barr and let Obama win. At least we know who and what to fight. With McCain, backroom deals seem to be the norm.
I will write my representatives and demand (!) intervention and investigation on the action on this charity. I want some heads on a platter.
Dolph,
You bring up a good point and more so the question of a cover up because of the tax exemption. Tax exempt sure as hell doesn’t mean SIN free.
I am not Catholic and don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but deceit happens in ALL churches.
I am sorry, I do have to find it funny that the Vatican GIVES the okay to say it is not a sin to believe in UFO’s..ummmmm
and then adds to the list of SINS: Environmental “”"”global warming…not sure of the direct words but it sounds to ritualistic and political to me.
I seriously DO NOT mean any OFFENSE to Catholics, this is how I view it as my opinion and do NOT see the separation of church and state…..
Red Dawn,
I am afraid you lost me right about the Vatican and UFOs…not that I have anything against either.
I believe many churches should lose their tax exemption, the minute they start telling how things should be outside their own doors. I seriously think most are safe though. There is a powerful church lobby in this country that will see to it that tax exemption is snub as a bug in a rug for churches.
Churches are ritualistic. That is probably one of their better characteristics. Has ‘ritualistic’ taken on a new meaning I am not aware of? That happens sometimes. Those not in the inner circle get left out in the cold.
In order to ensure that conservative judges are nominated to the Supreme Court, and to overturn the travesty of Roe vs Wade, I would urge everyone to vote for John McCain this fall.
snub=snug sorry about that.
Ducky, Not everyone feels that Roe v. Wade needs overturning. Travesty? Ha! Might want to check that one out.
Yet another example of liberal arrogance. Pull every church’s tax exempt status. Then we’ll see religious leaders ministering to their membership instead of building empires and enriching themselves. I agree that the culprit is probably a church member. Yet another reason for the church to adapt to the 21st century and allow priests to have sex, raise families and allow members to use birth control. Why aren’t women outraged by this? A woman’s body is her own. She should have the final say and accept responsibility for her actions. She already has a child? Why is she still here? Send her to Mexico City, care of Presidente Calderon.
Every time a nut case goes on a rampage, the gun control debate starts anew. But when people conspire to break the law and commit fraud, it’s “a few bad apples”. A life was lost needlessly because of irresponsibility, lust and outdated priorities.
Abortion is an extremely important issue for millions of conservatives. After a generation of hard work we are so close to finally achieving our majority on the SCOTUS - one of President Bush’s greatest successes. That should be reason enough to vote for John McCain this fall who will appoint strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court.
Please take just a few seconds and offer a prayer for the soul whose temporal life was extinguished.
