Best Rationale Ever For A Special Session

By Greg L | 24 June 2008 | Virginia Politics | 14 Comments

I think this absolutely sets the tone for the special session of the General Assembly.  What better use of a special session called by the Governor in order to address transportation than to take an opportunity to name a few bridges?

HB 6009: Trooper Robert Tinsley Lohr Memorial Bridge Designates the Virginia Route 207 bridge over Interstate Route 95 in Caroline County the “Trooper Robert Tinsley Lohr Memorial Bridge.”

HB 6010: Trooper Robin Lee Farmer Memorial Bridge
Designates the Virginia Route 639 bridge over Interstate Route 95 in Caroline County the “Trooper Robin Lee Farmer Memorial Bridge.”

With something as utterly worthless as this exercise in political grandstanding, this may be about as productive as this special session might ever get.  At least Delegate Chris Peace is keeping expectations within the realm of the possible, even though there are actually some bills that would make this exercise worthwhile, even though it is rather unlikely they’ll get passed during this session.  Maybe during the regular session these would get adequate consideration.

I think I could settle for the final result of all of this be that we named bridges after some fallen state troopers. I can’t imagine that the Governor would be too pleased that his bold leadership to solve the “transportation crisis” resulted in adding signs to two bridges, though.

    - Wow, slap to the forehead time - who would have
guessed people don’t like taxes. Great insight Greg!!
    - Of course, most of those same folks don’t like heavy
traffic, pot holes are bridges falling down while they
are on them. Many of them, with gas at $4 and racing
higher, also would like mass transit alternatives.
    - Praise should not go to the automatic pilot tax increase
supporters or to the NO TAX tantrum toddlers, but to
the adult leaders in Richmond who craft a balanced
pragmatic transportation plan that serves the long term
    interest of Virginia’s citizens.
    - The Va. GOP would be served by a “Contract With
The Citizens” that spells out how they would address
the issues - not a party hack talking point list,
not nebulous feel good BS, but a practical how-to
    plan to help Va.
    - The old Dr. NO stuff is, well,- no - in 2008.

Actually, with Governor Timmy’s! fixation on soaking the taxpayers for more unnecessary taxes, this may be the least harmful result we can hope for out of this special session.

Speaking of which, has anybody seen Marky Mark’s senatorial campaign ad? Warning, avoid eating or drinking while watching it, because it may cause one to choke. He claims that he “fixed” the budget problems “and we did it the right way”…and this lead to a “budget surplus”. The right way???? By passng the largest tax increase in VA history, justified by some of the worst accounting in VA history, which lead to over taxing the people to the tune of 100’s of MILLIONS of dollars.

He “cleaned up Virginia”, and now wants to “clean up Washington”…. No thanks Mark.

In order to ingratiate himself with the Democratic Party Hierarchy, Timmy must demonstrate to them that he can shove the stick of new taxes up the population’s backside and make them smile while he does it. It’s the birthmark of a true Democrat.

    Taco Truck Ted here:

Today we are running a new special. For every HSM member we get out of the county, you get $5 in untaxable untraceable income. Sorry but that’s all we feel an HSM member is worth. If you can prove they are a KKK member too, then we’ll give you $15 as we think the KKK is worth a lot more than a bunch of silly HSM members like Mando, LPOW, Ed, and JustCause.

    Taco Truck Ted here:

Today we are running a 5 for 1 special. For every HSM member you get out of the county, we’ll give you not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE undocumented workers! Think of how it will help your local economy. Think of all the extra houses that will be built! Think of all the business it will attract to your county. Round ‘em up and bring them to us now, and then you can have all the undocumented workers you ever wanted and live happily. No more HSM members! That’s our motto. Drive HSM out of PWC! And if you call before midnight and give us the name and address of an HSM member we’ll throw in a week’s supply of free tacos!
