It actually means a lot I think and I don;t see how anyone who lived through PWC circa 2005-2006 can vote for either party.

I'm not saying that. I feel that both parties have abandoned us, and we need to abandon them until they understand this issue means something to those of us who don't live in mansions.

I hesitate to vote for Obama but not because of his wife or his ex-pastor. I hope for the best from his Presdiency (which I assume will come about). Maybe it won't be so bad. Who knows. Just don't try to tell me you love your country if you feel it necessary to demonize every relatively honest politician who disagrees with you, and then heap **** on them the way some of you did on Bill Clinton for 8 years.

We're being overrun with illegal aliens and the average American is losing ground, wage disparity is rising, the underclass is swelling and public entitlements are incraesingly going bankrupt, our whole way of life is sinking down the tubes, but yeah at least the streets aren't filled with married gays and burnt flags, way to go GOP on building a better America. Love that war in Iraq too.

I've sat in churches where complete bs was spewed, it wasn't necessarily prudent to stand up and argue with the pastor. Especially if he's a senile old man, speaking in the general confusion of the 9-11 aftermath. I think it'd be better to judge Obama and his wife on what they write books about, how they raise their children, what core values they continually uphold (McCain seems to have NONE). You may not want to vote for him but I'm amused that you want to attack him so vociferously when his opponent is such a dishonest, dishonorable tool.

How the F (wish I could 48-point font that F) did McCain walk away with the GOP nomination? There's a real story behind that I'm sure. Repiblicans have been hoodwinked and bamboozled again, transfixed by bogus stories about "Obama doesn't respect the Pledge of Allegiance" and the usual sort of nonsense you guys get energized about every 4 years (gay marriage, flag burning, etc. etc.).

I was READY and WILLING to vote GOP for the first time in 24 years, disgusted as I am with the Democartic party, but the whole slate of GOP candidates are pro-Amnesty, F them I say (wish I could make that one 52 points big).

Since when was politicizing the candidates' wives considered a meaningful exercise? You're entitled to your opiniopn and your vote, but don't try to convince me that I should be up in arms about it ... his wife is a fairly middle-of-the-road character.

Wright's comments were shameful and bother me (the exact same way Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson's comments bothered me). That's an issue. I think Obama did a decent job addressing that in his speech - to my satisfaction actually. I don't think I'll vote for him, but this stuff about his wife's inartful speaking and his senile ex-pastor from his previous church is just jerking around the edges as far as I'm concerned. McCain is a huge proponent of amnesty, dedicated to intellectual dishonesty on the issue, and you're going to vote for him because you've become riled up about Obama's WIFE and EX-PASTOR? Come on, see the forest for the trees. You're being bamboozled and hoodwinked.

Well Krutis, I'm with Marcie. Please recognize though that the ugliness is not physical, the ugliness is in her heart and in her soul. There was no "slip of the tongue."

The important part though is that the Democrats have nominated a man who was/is attracted to a woman of such thinking as his wife and the "Right Reverend" Jeremiah Wright to become our next president. THAT is the issue....

Laura Bush's comment to a reporter re Mrs Obama's faux pas was wonderful, and it came from someone who knows what's it like to be in the public eye (and ear) constantly.

Contrast that with Marcie who calls Mrs Obama "his ugly assed wife"!

Marcie I didn't say I'd vote Obama. But I note with amusement the way the right wing machine has people like you riled up to high heaven.

The Wright thing reflects badly on his left-wing bent but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. He's "rebuked" Wright. What exactly do you want done? Does his crank of a Pastor's statement make him ineligible to run in your view?

And why exactly do you begrudge black people their votes? You consider them all less educated on the issues than you?

And is his WIFE not allowed one misstatement? Should we parse your words with the same zeal hers are parsed?

Reagan was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's when he was still President, so I don't think that's such a great example. McCain is older than Reagan was when he ran.

Nor would I vote for Queen Elizabeth.

BTW, Rick Bentley, stop showing your ignorance by pointing out that
it is"ridiculous" for McCain to run for office at age 72. You will most
likely agree at some point, that age is just a number....that's it. How
old is Queen Elizabeth?

Rick Bentley and Krustis...FYI, IF (God forbid) the rookie wins the election,
of course, I will continue to display the highest respect and honor for my
wonderful country. I will continue to place my right hand over my heart
when the American flag passes in review or The National Anthem is played
and at the same time, will loudly rebuke those who sit in a church pew
and listen intently to some so-called man of God damn this great nation
and not come to it's defense. I certainly will also rebuke the ugly assed
woman who claims to be proud of this country for the first time in her
adult life simply because her husband has won the nomination. Where is
her pride for the opportunities she has been afforded in this great
country? I, for one was not afforded the opportunity to attend Yale
or Harvard, but she was. How can she say that America is a "Mean
country"?
We, as a nation, are given the government we deserve (and ask for) but I find it extremely difficult to swallow that this talking head and empty
suit will, with the help of a large number of ignorant, naive voters will work
his way to the oval office. The many blacks that I know, on their admission,
will vote for Obama only because he is black and cannot tell you one thing
related to any of his positions...it's enough that he's black, and that is sad!
It is rare that I bother to respond to a commenter on this blog, but just
for the hell ot it, I felt somewhat compelled to do so, in this instance.
Both of you....Rick and Krustis, cast your votes for Obama, by all means,
since it will most likely make you feel very "American" but be prepared to
suck up the consequencies.
When I visit the graves of my father and my husband in Arlington Cemetary,
I can do so with a clear and open heart and complete love for this country.

Since when does anyone think that the Pres isn't "on duty" every minute of his term?

I can just hear it, "Listen Mr. National Security advisor, I'm on vacation right now and I don't want to hear about that Iranian nuke test until I get back to D.C., OK?" OR "Listen Mr. Secretary of State, I don't care if it is the President of Russia calling. It's Saturday afternoon and I'm watching a ballgame. Tell him I'll call him back on Monday."

Right.

Try another one.

Support McCain can't count on

Local 2544 of the National Border Patrol Council, the largest union among the nation's force of rank-and-file U.S. Border Patrol agents, doesn't know who to endorse in the presidential race, but the union does know who it won't: "We will not endorse Sen. John McCain, even though he is currently representing our home state of Arizona."

In a posting on the local's web page, the union said Mr. McCain "has never been serious about immigration enforcement, and he has never been serious about supporting the Border Patrol," adding that the senior senator has routinely "minimized and trivialized" the illegal immigration problem in this country. It said the only "solution" he has ever offered is a massive new amnesty program designed to reward illegal aliens who have succeeded in violating the nation's laws.

"If Sen. McCain succeeds in becoming the president of this great nation, we believe it would be a disaster for border security and the enforcement of our immigration laws. We believe the American people have already seen enough of this type of behavior from our politicians.

"For those who care about the issues of illegal immigration and border security, we ask that you not support Senator McCain under any circumstances," the local said. "Don't be fooled by any 'tough' talk he may use now regarding illegal immigration and border enforcement. His actions over the years, his complete lack of support for rank-and-file Border Patrol agents, and his incessant calls for more 'amnesty' programs for the illegal aliens who succeed in violating our laws have done all the talking we care to hear."

The local said that while it honors Mr. McCain's past military service, Border Patrol agents are routinely being assaulted, shot at, killed, crippled and otherwise injured trying to do an often unpopular job for this country, and "Senator McCain has sought to sell us out and sell our mission out at every turn. Of all people, he should understand what it's like to serve your country and to have politicians and others turn their backs on you. Please honor Senator McCain's military service, but support someone else for president."

Well Rick Bentley, it appears to me that there is not a single "issue at hand," but several very key and serious issues at hand. The key is to select those issues that are most serious (illegal immigration being one of those) and to select the candidate which best represents your view. the Republican or the Democrat.
