Dear Groveton, Just a little info on myself: I do not drink alchohol (almost 20 years) and I run a real estate company. I love builders and developers provided their projects make sound fiscal and planning sense! As to Fairfax, you may want to move to the City of Manassas or Prince William County! We have plenty of houses available and I know a good agent!

A zero depth feature is political correctness for ground level or FLAT.

Dave Core has really ran with the Sprayground project as well as JoAnn Higgs the department director. Many thanks!

What?!?

An elected official swimming for charity instead of drinking martinis with developers? We (here in Fairfax County) would never tolerate such an outrage. Our elected officials do not get their exercise from swimming. They get their exercise the old fashioned way - by bending at the waist to kiss the butts of builders.

On a more serious note - good for Austin.

However, I've got to ask, "What's a zero depth water feature?". Is that a pool with an open drain?

David Core, along with Austin, has been driving this effort on behalf of Recreation and Parks for well over a year now. Dave and Austin are a great example of citizens who go above and beyond for the good of the greater community. Thanks guys!

Wow! Thanks Greg so much for posting this. I did not know until just now when I received a call from one of your readers. I hope everyone that can, will support this.

My trainning is not going as well as I hoped, pain has definately set in. Last year I swam a little over 8 miles in one clip, 20 is going to be a real test! I will have 24 hours to do it, so I can have some breaks.

We have a great town and I am proud to be associtaed with it. I beleive things are best accomplished with public/private partnerships and i want to thank the city for their support.

I want to thank everyone for cheering Austin on to his goal. Austin has always been a friend of Recreation and Parks and we appreciate his tremendous support. A Sprayground is a zero depth water feature that will benefit everyone no matter what their age or ability and requires no additional staff. Thanks again Austin!
If anyone else would like to participate, please contact the Recreation & Parks Department to get your pledge form. Please don't think that you have to swim 20 miles; any distance would be great.

Three cheers for Austin. He is a long time supporter
of the Manassas community, especially of our children.
 - The Spraypark will be a popular venue available
to everyone, including those with disabilities.
 - It will contribute to the upgrade of the Stonewall Park
pool area (now over twenty-five years old) by
 adding an exciting new attraction.
 - Plan to be there and help support Austin on August 1st.

That is certainly a class act. Thanks for posting this. Getting the job done by keeping limited government principles and not raising taxes; good on all fronts.

The whole concept of this event, the Ultimate Swim-A-Thon, originated last year when Austin raised about $7,000 for it. You may also contribute online at the City of Manassas Recreation website:

This is an exciting opportunity for the City.

I met him once - had a wonderful conversation with him. I am going to be sure to stop by Stonewall to wish him well on the first, with a check in hand.

What a great opportunity to help our community. I hope Austin gets his call answered. If everyone gave just a little we'd have a "spraypark" in no time.
Good luck Austin.
Thanks for letting us know about this Greg.
