Coverstone 7-Eleven Cleared Of Day Laborers

By Greg L | 8 July 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime, Prince William County | 87 Comments

This friendly guy, who drives a Ford F-550 with Virginia commercial tags TX 667, may have to look elsewhere for day laborers to hire for his commercial business from now on.  The 7-Eleven on Coverstone Drive was the site of some actual enforcement of the law by Prince William County Police today, and for the first time in years was cleared of illegal alien day laborers.  Efforts of the Crime Prevention Team of Help Save Manassas have started to make a difference in Prince William County, and between public efforts to discourage the unlawful employment of illegal aliens and quieter reaching out to business and property owners who are happy to have someone come to help them.

It will certainly take additional work to rescue these businesses and shut down day labor sites in the county, but for the first time, progress is being made.  Hopefully some of the folks like Mr. Happy Pizza-Eating No-Hands Driver above will also get a lesson from the Virginia Department of Taxation about the potential consequences of flouting the law as well.

WOW-WOW-WOW- THIS IS GREAT NEWS! GREAT WORK HSM AND ALL YOUR FOLKS WHO KEPT AFTER THIS.

Now we need a group here in Woodbridge to follow suit. A few of us just have not gotten anywhere. We need a strrong leader and we keep looking.
We turn in as much as we canbut these hang around guys we just can’t seem to get rid of them. BUT MAYBE THERE IS SOME HOPE NOW.
We will hit the businesses again who allow them to gather.

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

    THANKS FROM ALL OF US.

Boy I hope that’s true. I really hope each and every illegal alien in PWC gets the message to go to Fairfax County and go take advantage of Gerry Connolly’s largesse. Then they can start going through the same political cycle over there.

Can HSM come do the same for the 7-11’s on rt.1, mainly the one at the parkway? Why always Coverstone? Is it worse than the rt.1 7-11’s?

Anonymous, thank you so much for the non-emergency police number. I called in the billboard sized MS-13 sign near my house, I wonder how long it’s going to take for it to be painted over or cleaned.

About the pic, who is that guy waving to? Is he signaling that he sees someone taking his picture, if so, did he pick anyone up once he noticed?

I have to say when I saw this, I was a bit taken back with the ideal that this picture doesn’t prove anything. I also thought about the Big Brother scenario and of the possible damage this can do to people “like Mr. Happy Pizza-Eating No-Hands Driver” with his mug shot and license info. blasted for all to see.
I think it is great service if the day laborers would leave as NO ONE is comfortable with crowds at the convenience stores. ( no matter who it is, teenagers, homeless, etc.)

I just take issue with the fact that this man maybe innocent ( if not where is the proof to back it up)

I know if someone where to take my picture, I would have probably done the same thing, smiled and waved.

Put yourself in the shoes of this guy, I think you would be pissed, but with his smile, I would say he handled it like a true gentleman.

That is a good point Red Dawn, this one pic doesn’t really prove much. Are there any other pics which could support the claim of him picking up someone there?

    What’s next,

Thanks. I just see this going a bit to further than posting pictures of shopping carts, graffiti, etc.

Even if there are pictures of him picking up or dropping someone off, it still doesn’t prove anything. Example, et’s I pick up or drop off a teenager ( maybe MINE) at the 7-11, and possible child prostitution or whatever, is suspected, will I have my face and tag blasted for all to see?
Also, I do NOT know one construction worker that does not stop at multiple 7-11’s/ convenience stores during the day from job to job. Hell, I know I did while traveling form courthouse to courthouse to do work. I also come from a family full of construction workers, including my husband ( that I wish would stay out of 7-11 for budget purposes ;)

I just worry about him showing up in a commercial vehicle and being ACCUSED of the same thing. I am putting My husband/family/friends in the guys situation. This ( hate to say it) sounds like a witch hunt and can ruin reputations.

On anti there was talk about Corey Stewart himself being spotted at the 7-11, again, what the hell does that prove?

  25. chicko said on 9 Jul 2008 at 6:48 pm:

I think that if pictures were to be taken they should say that they were taken and show the actual pick-up in the process. Right now they really dont prove anything other than that the guy likes pizza and waves like a nice guy. cruizing the location looking for illegals to work and actually picking them up are two separate things. you shouldnt be fined the attempt, only the “act” in and of itself.

I should clarify my statement @ 6:02, that it would be great IF the day laborers leave ( any crowd) at the 7-11. I do NOT want to imply that I think the picture taking, walking around protest was a great service. I find it to be bullish and as a RESULT we have this picture and a huge question of innocent until proven guilty.
It sounds like the crowd may have diminished or vacated due to he 7-11 hiring a security guard.

You have some good points Red Dawn, are there any criteria in which these pics are taken? Hopefully there are pics of the day laborer standing “in line” at the 7-11 an then him getting in the truck.

I see where your coming from Red Dawn but most of the guys at 7-11’s are illegal immigrants and the guys picking them up are breaking the law by hiring illegal labor. If it were proven that the day laborer was standing in line, then got into the truck, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. But if that is the only pic then there isn’t much credit to the claim.

I live on rt.1 and go to both of the 7-11’s almost every day (to buy smokes, I know, it’s a bad habit) and I see the same trucks picking up guys on a daily basis.

    What’s next,

Glad you see get my point and I share your BAD habit ;( EWWWW

Here is the deal, sure, there are illegals and companies that pick up and drop off on a daily basis. However, how do you PROVE they are illegal and how do you justify blasting a photo and tag # IF it cannot be proven? Also, take the EXAMPLE that I used above about dropping off my teenager or a teenager if a bunch of hoodlums are always hang out at the 7-11 and there may be a SUSPICION of child pornography OR hell, say, drug dealing and I dropped off a friend of mine that LOOKS like they fit that preconceived profile….WHATEVER it is. It is different for everyone.

Just like, I choose to help the homeless when I see them when others would turn an eye and ASSUME they deserve it, etc. ( I always, tend to think, hey, what if they are mentally challenged/ sick, it is not as easy to get help, to MAKE that decision but they still need to eat)

Hi Red Dawn, I see your point, which is why I asked if there were more pics, there has to be some ethics with doing this. I don’t think that they would takes pics of anything other than commercial trucks picking up day labor’s (at least I hope not).

You ever watch TMZ, they take pics and video of anyone and everyone then post it not only on the Internet but on national TV. Apparently it’s not against the law to do so and what HMS is doing is far less intrusive than anything you see in other places. However, this is kind of a sticky wicket which is why some guidelines may need to be set up.

  32. Red Dawn said on 9 Jul 2008 at 7:27 pm:

    What’s next,

Yes, I am GUILTY of TMZ, perezhilton.com, etc., and thought about that scenario today too- that we now have PWC paparazzi. I find that to be wrong, intrusive and invasive just like Dianna’s death.( and saying so, I should not contribute my eyes to it, I understand the catch) However, in the world of celebrities or of public interest, there is that saying that there is no such thing as BAD publicity. Look at all the reality TV shows.
I think it is a far cry from an innocent person trying to make a dollar ( talking about the guy blasted when not proven guilty) and stopping in at the 7-11. I wonder if Corey bought him the pizza…and they BOTH are being slammed.

Red Dawn, I wouldn’t go quite as far as to say it’s as intrusive and invasive as Dianna’s death. However, I do agree that it’s a touchy subject and that more that one pic needs to be presented as proof of the allegations. You have convinced me there but I do think that if it’s done correctly, and with guidelines, it could prove a powerful deterrent to commercial companies hiring illegal labor.

Where I live (just off of rt.1 near the parkway) I see it every day if not twice a day to go along with MS-13 graffiti popping up all of the time. If something like this would slow that down or make it less “in your face” I would welcome it. I don’t even feel comfortable with my wife stopping any where near my home if she needs something. It sucks.

    What’s next,

I AGREE that something needs/ needed to be done. I don’t stop because I can’t stand it MYSELF. I will go out of my way to get my coffee and lotto tickets :)

My husband(family/ friends), that is another story, he will stop and I can’t get past seeing his/their face in this picture and story. Now, more than ever, this makes me uncomfortable in MY hometown that I grew up in.
I feel that this has crossed the line that I don’t want him/or anyone to stop at the 7-11’s anymore as we have a far greater risk of loosing everything and hanging on with the economy in/of itself ,competition in his field of work due to underbidding of jobs, stuck in our house due to the foreclosures, etc….

I do NOT discount this to be a problem on so MANY levels.

Who wins if I convince him/them ( word spreads fast) not to stop at any 7-11’s for the risk of being at the wrong place at the wrong time?

Who needs this EXTRA stress? I KNOW I don’t, even though he/they are NOT doing anything wrong ( I hear the argument ) but now it has been added on to our plate and it is full.

It makes me sick and I try like hell to be welcoming, always have.

I understand your point that there needs to be checks and balances to slow it down, it looks like it comes down to the store ITSELF to hire a guard….I don’t know the answers ( never claimed I did) BUT I will be making my rounds to warn everyone that I know.

On this joker we got multiple photos plus video from three angles. He picked up three day laborers, shouted to us as he drove off that he only “hires the best” and gave us a friendly wave as he drove off with his pizza.

If anyone thinks he has been treated unfairly, I would encourage you to contact the individual and encourage him to file a defamation lawsuit against me. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to make it easier to be a defendant here, as I would absolutely LOVE to be able to pursue discovery with this company and dig through every record they have about the work they’ve done and the folks they’ve paid. I’m sure going through their subpoenaed books would be a tremendously interesting exercise.

So please, get this guy to sue me. I’m begging you.

    Greg,

You beg for a lawsuit? Either you are that brave or makes me ponder even more about my theory of you trying to be a “shock blogger” bad publicity, what is that? I used to think so highly of you and sought your help to make this a better place. I am just looking out for my family and friends well being in this ONCE family friendly atmosphere.

  38. Greg L said on 9 Jul 2008 at 8:57 pm:

Truth being an absolute defense in a defamation lawsuit, there is zero chance such a lawsuit would be successful. But the act of filing the lawsuit would allow motions for discovery where I’d be able to pour through business records relevant to the hiring practices of this company, that would almost certainly reveal lots of very interesting information. Yeah, I’d welcome this.

It’s not so much bravery and the possession of a tremendous volume of clear and unambiguous evidence that is being forwarded to the appropriate state and federal law enforcement authorities.

While this guy unlawfully takes advantage of cheap illegal alien labor, the immigrant business owner of this 7-Eleven has been suffering terribly for the convenience of those who break the rules. Where’s the concern for him? When these day laborers take over his property, where’s the outrage for this law-abiding business owner who is taking it on the chin while many seem to bemoan the plight of the poor folks who are breaking the law? There is none, because he doesn’t have an ethnic lobby devoted to protecting his lawful behavior as there is an ethnic lobby devoted to protecting the bad guys here from the consequences of their unlawful behavior.

That this has been allowed to persist for so long is an outrage. If squatters showed up on your property for months on end and ruined your ability to earn a living while the police ignored your please for help and everyone moaned about the plight of the poor squatters, you’d be thrilled of someone with a sense of moral conscience showed up to help rescue you from this.

I have watched every video from Eric & Annabel and have commented on some. This thread started out with the picture, tag number and LATER in the thread ( after I became compassionate) I get a response that there are mutli pics, video, etc.

WHAT they hell was I or ANYONE supposed to think?

Did I just answer my own question?

I have never seen or have had any dealings with Eric or Annabel that have made me beg for such answers and be considered to compassionate.

From the VERY beginning, as I will admit, that I was a HUGE skeptic of them, have not been proven wrong, disrespected or made to feel like I did tonight.

The feeling that I have tonight is a TRUE concern of for lack of a better, a witch hunt.

This guy featured may have been the biggest SMART ASS that has ever lived. Seriously,in the end could this be the final verdict in the courts?

I am just discussed on so many levels.

Let’s start with the FIRST one, and that would be the inaction and INVITATION of our Fed Gov., that has ALL of us neighbors pitted against each other.

The more and more the INACTION continues, the MORE and MORE our rights are being STRIPPED away and everyone under the scope of Big Brother ( again, for lack of a better term)

Does this look like he was trying to get a good angle? The pole is huge and easily hides a person, especially since there are tree’s in front of it. It really was amusing.

When people break the law by hiring illegal aliens, they should be reported. Simple. If they harbor illegal aliens they should be held accountable under federal statutes, as they carry federal penalties. Simpler, and also just as effective as stopping people at the border, including terrorists shopping at your local Wal-Mart and quietly waiting for “orders” for the next major 9-11 terrorist attack.

Who does not understand that the problem of “illegal” immigration is a failure of law enforcement people to enforce the law and the failure of business people to not be afraid of breaking the law because it is not enforced by local law enforcement?

What if ANY of these guys were providing funding for crime rings or terrorist cells? Would you still not be supporting 287g and demanding local law enforcement of the law?

People forget the law is designed to protect 360 Million Americans (including the 7-11 shop owner), from the callous, un-remorseful and unethical behavior of 12-20 million “illegal” aliens, who want what they want and take what they want regardless of how many innocent “identify theft” and “jobless” legal Americans it hurts or they murder behind illegal driver’s licenses or fake idenities. or stolen SSNs they use to drive on our streets and “live” in our communities.

Simply enforce the law and the problem will stop.

Come on guys. You know the picture Greg presented was real and the story accurate. We have all seen the daylaborers and we all know what is going on. Stand up and get behind the effort to make our local stores places where women and children feel comfortable. Who wants to live in a community where decent lawabiding people are made to feel threatened.

    Red Dawn,

Unfortunately I think it’s every man (and woman) for themselves in this hectic trying to stay afloat world. That’s what is so frustrating when you’ve spent your whole life doing it the correct way, and then the guy next door walks across the border and winds up as your neighbor as if it didn’t take any effort. It makes you think “What the hell have I been doing wrong all these years?”.

It’s too bad there isn’t a USDOT number on this truck, but he isn’t required to have one if he never leaves Virginia with it. (An F550 definitely has a GVWR over 10,000lbs so it would be required to have a USDOT number if used in interstate commerce).

    If he did, however:

Eric was moving around that day videotaping while hiding. For a while he was on the 7-11 property videotaping from behind the dumpster. He was not out in the open filming, which is something a real documentarian would do.

    Michael is right on point.

I’ve seen plenty of youtube footage of guys like this driver, who are angry about anyone’s attempt to cut off their illegal slave labor pipeline. I’ll bet he’s not smiling now. Last thing he wants to do is pay a decent wage to an American who’s not as “hard working” as his illegal buddies.

He stopped in for the slice of pizza and 3 illegals special, disgusting.

Rick Bentley, Went by around 7:00 am and they were there. Not in the same numbers as before and they are all split up. Some at the Coverstone apartments, some on the vacant property, some at 7-11 and the rest were across the street on the corner of Rosemary and Coverstone.

Which is why he does his recruiting in 7-11 parking lots?

I hope we keep the fight up. I hope we keep putting the message out that PWC is not really the place to come if you’re illlegal, Mexican flyers with directions not withstanding.

OH MY GOSH! Go to page 3 and check it out! Definitely looks like 3rd world country! It just blows my mind that people (anti group) would rather “protect” this type, then fight for what’s right. Do they get their giggles from seeing our town destroyed?

It is up to the property owners to do something about it. Why let them off the hook? If they wanted them moved badly enough, they wouldn’t be there.

Red Dawn (I’m coming into this late), if I were you, I definitely would NOT drop off a teenager at 7-11 … or the library (if p0rn is still available on the internet there). This is a different world alright.

Thank you HSM for your courage & perseverence.

    K. O’toole et al.,

HSM appreciates your thanks and we promise to keep persevering.

The property management company does want the day laborers off of their property next to the 7-11. Unfortunately, they didn’t know until early last week that the dirt banks where the day laborers were congregating were their property. They didn’t even know they had a problem on their property - because the property was empty. They now understand why they have not been able to rent the property for years.

They have posted Private Property signs (which Eric Byler ignored when he was videotaping HSM members) and have signed an agreement with the police.

Their security guard is now aware of the problem. However, he is not always there. So - any time you see anyone trespassing on their property you can call the police’s non-emergency number - 703-792-6500 and report that there are trespassers on private property at the corner of Coverstone and Miramar Drive.

I always wondered about that vacant property. It’s hard to believe they just figured out why it’s been vacant for so many years. Better late then never I suppose.

G.D.C. just got a County contract for work out at the landfill - supe’s voted on it Tuesday.

GDC frequents the Rt. 1 7-11 picking up day laborers.

It seems like nothing is happening with rules to require contractors doing work for the county to check legal status.

(Though it is possible that GDC only hires “legal” day laborers at that 7-11.)

What was it that the police were able to do at that 7-11 that got rid of the day laborers?

The photos were taken in a public place and the tag number is public record. The gentleman has no reasonable expectation of privacy in that situation (plenty of SCOTUS cases to back that up) so there is absolutely nothing that Greg could be sued for. As far as security goes, Wackenhut corporation based in Fairfax has the local 7-11 accounts and they move the officers where they are needed when 7-11 calls. They are armed under DCJS license and have arrest powers under Virginia law on site for any crime they witness. Mostly they will just call local police unless something bad goes down.

Anonlady, You could make it your mission to investigate howenforcement of the rules for hiring in PWC goes on. Look, it take alot of hands to get on deck to keep at some these 7-ll sites and followup to make sure it stays cleared out. And Dolph, the property owners live out of state. There is a management company who has been made aware of the condition of the property and what is going on. In addition, they have posted PRIVATE PROPERTY sign, they’re hired a security guard who documents site activity and gets the police involved. Red Dawn, I wanted to run away from this mess 2 years ago but houses were not selling but dropping in value. After thinking it through, I asked myself where I would run to? This invasion was all over the nation. I decided to fight this battle on my own home turf. And HSM needs more of you to join in and not just watch from afar. Don’t we all want to sleep in on weekends instead of showing up to the 7-ll? While Greg et al may not be perfect and don’t present the issue like you would, give credit where credit is due and participate and voice your concerns. By doubling our numbers at these sites will only frustrate the illegals and send them elsewhere.
I challenge all of you to step up to the plate. Contact HSM and find out where you can help.

Good N. Plenty, Thank you. Most of us would rather be doing other things with our time but when you see something that just isn’t right in your community, we, as in HSM, try to correct it. There are those do not agree with the way we do things, but the majority of the citizens do.

I actually get calls from all over the U.S. asking for help. Because they know how successful PWC has been.

Shortly after, Mando concluded that “vacant property” was really the Empire State building, and “better late then never” really was “the early bird gets the worm”. Another mystery solved by Sherlock Mando!
