Fake Labor Union Ads On WMAL?

By Greg L | 8 July 2008 | Virginia Politics | 4 Comments

On my way to work this morning, I was listening to WMAL as usual.  I’ve enjoyed the ad that’s run a few times from Americans For Prosperity opposing new transportation taxes, but decidedly did not enjoy an ad from some labor union advocating that the General Assembly raise taxes so we can create jobs building roads.   At the end of the typical drivel about how raising our taxes is magically going to clear up all congestion in Northern Virginia in a month or so, we got to the real meat of their argument: it would create jobs.

The thing that really makes this outrageous is that I don’t think that the “labor union” running this ad actually exists.  The “International Labor Organization” running this ad is most likely a group formed by road construction companies.  When was the last time you heard a labor union start shilling for their companies to get more business?  Never?  That would be about right.  When was the last time you heard some big business organization start running ads using some creative name where they tried to get the Commonwealth to put more of your taxpayer dollars into their pockets?  The last time we had a tax hike referendum? That would definitely be right.

Now don’t get me wrong here.  I like Virginia’s business community, and I’m proud that Virginia is a good state to do business.  Despite that, I’ve had it with the business lobby throwing a bunch of money at ads pushing the General Assembly to do something contrary to the interests of Virginia taxpayers, whether it be ensure a continued supply of cheap illegal alien labor, or to get the government to hike our taxes so they can get more business.  This latest episode is simply ridiculous, and the business lobby deserves widespread condemnation for this outrage.

Maybe it’s time to start “Virginia Business United” and start running ads in support of the dog fighting industry and harvesting cattle afflicted with mad cow disease.  These folks need to be stopped, and I imagine they won’t stop until they get some severe and well-deserved backlash.

I’d believe it if the UAW advertised for GM and Ford. Instead, unions usually act to break the employer for good.

What is your solution to solve the Trans. issue? The state has done nothing for 20 years and that approach hasn’t worked.

It appears this is little more than UN intrusion in the lives of Northern Virginians. I don’t really understand the UN’s recent obsession in meddling in Nova.
