Tranchant Speaks To Immigration Commission
By Greg L | 17 July 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Virginia Politics | 18 Comments

Ray Tranchant shows picture of his murdered daughter (from powhatan life)
The Virginia Commission on Immigration met in Norfolk recently, allowing one of the citizens of the Commonwealth who may have more authority to speak on this subject than many of us ever will, to have her chance to address these elected officials. From the Virginia Pilot:
Colette Tranchant cried as she held up a large photograph of her daughter, Tessa, at a public hearing on immigration Wednesday night at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
In March 2007, Tranchant’s daughter was killed by a drunken driver who was in the country illegally.
“We are losing something that no amount of money can replace,” Tranchant told the Governor’s Commission on Immigration, a 20-member panel that is studying the effects of immigration in Virginia.
That illegal alien that killed Colette Tranchant’s daughter had five previous interactions with area law enforcement for drunken driving, and was let go every time he was caught. It was only until this senseless tragedy that authorities did anything to remove this dangerous illegal alien from the Commonwealth. Deaths like these are 100% preventable, if only government would get and keep illegal aliens out of our country.
No jurisdiction in Hampton Roads has enrolled in the Section 287(g) Program that would allow criminal illegal aliens to be processed for deportation by local law enforcement or jail personnel. As a result, many criminal aliens are released back into this community after they are released from detention.

I believe the photo shows her father and not the person quoted.
Sorry, I just noticed the text under the photo. It is her father.
Quite a poor turnout at this meeting. Was this event by invitation only?
This really sucks, but you get what you vote for.
I attended this meeting and there were approximately 20 to 25 people that attended. It was located at a hospital that was very inconvenient to get to and almost impossible to find the meeting once you entered the building. Only 14 people spoke.
I found it very offensive that out of 20 commission members, 8 showed up for this. If these hearings are so important, then they all have an obligation to be there. Although to be honest I think they are a big waste of time and money.
It was heartbreaking to hear Colette Tranchant speak about how her daughter had died at the hands of an illegal alien. My heart goes out to her and to all the other families that have been affected by the destructive actions of any illegal alien.

The real disgrace is that more jurisdictions here are not enrolled in Section 287(g). The other is that more citizens are not demanding it. If a citizen had 5 DUI’s the consequences would be a lot worse SO..why aren’t illegal aliens who are driving our roads drunk and without a license being Deported?
“why aren’t illegal aliens who are driving our roads drunk and without a license being Deported?”
It’s bad press in liberal jurisdictions.

You also get more of what you tolerate. The time will come when these politicians who pander to alien invaders will no longer be tolerated.

In my opinion, we ought to deport anyone who drinks or abuses drugs and drives (citizen or not)! It’s like standing in your back yard and shooting a .357 in the air without regard to who gets hit.
Tyler,
I am thinking the same way. It seems to me that those who pander will eventually be out of office, but we have to do it now or they will have the ILLEGAL aliens voting in the 2012 presidential cycle. It could be as soon as the 2009 Congressional races!!!
America needs to shut the door for a while. We have enough people here. Let’s enforce the border, get the immigration reform worked out and fine businesses that hire ILLEGAL aliens. Not just a 2 or 3k fine, but something that will amount to millions of dollars. These fines could go for direct support of Homeland Security for the border enforcement and such. If it puts the business out of business, good!!! Those that have played by the rules now have a fair chance to get the jobs they were underbid on because of the cheap labor their competitors used.
We allow the people to put their affairs in order, make arrangements to leave and start self deporting. If they are caught after the deadline, everything is confiscated an auctioned off and they are placed across the border without anything. A consequence for the action will deter the ILLEGAL aliens from staying and self deportation will work. We do not have to deport them, they can do it on their own!!

Mere coincidence?
We need to do everything in our power to remain a sovereign nation. The European Union is barely hanging on, partially due to the fact that it’s member nations are economically fairly equal. We cannot become a North American Union. Half of Canada’s population weren’t born there and Mexico is too poor and corrupt.

Yes, Virginia, this came from the WashPo.
Heartbroken for the Tranchant family and all the families of victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens. Every person, elected official and advocate that aids/abets/assists/hires an illegal alien directly and indirectly supports criminals, drug smugglers, human traffickers, the Mexican cartels and the ethno-supremacist illegal alien advocacy cartel made up of La RAZA, MECHA, LULAC, NALEO, the Institute for Mexicans Abroad and the 500 open-borders affiliates of La RAZA as well.
Just say NO MAS to illegal aliens, their advocates and especially to any elected officials that supports laws and/or policies that put the interests of illegal aliens above those of law-abiding citizens and legal residents. Enforce the law, stop sanctuary policies, don’t hire illegal aliens, no more public benefits, use E-Verify…..SI SE PUEDE…YA ES HORA.
I totally agree with /\/\3|)iç 64 (Winner of the BVBL 40k and 50k post award). Closing the door seems almost a necessity to take a step back and try and find employment for the 400,000 people out of work currently because of the economic situation. Once we have those people working again then maybe we should tie immigration to the unemployment figures. It doesn’t make sense to keep letting people in while we have rising unemployment.
The guy had FIVE interactions with police for drunken driving? Was someone being paid off to keep hi s *ss from being deported? It is sickening to imagine the sympathy that so many will feel for him as a representative of the downtrodden illegals, and none for this poor, suffering family. Next time I start getting deluded into trying to see “the human side” of illegal immigration, I will reread this story.
Unreal.
