Prince William County Soil & Water Board member Austin Haynes is trying to raise money for a Sprayground at Stonewall Park Pool and could use your help. While some have worked hard trying to get tax money appropriated to fund this effort, Austin thinks he can raise the money to have this built. Let’s help him prove that this approach works!
Friday, August 1st is only a few days away. It is hard to believe I will be Fifty years old. When I was a kid James Bond was the only one with a cell phone and it took a brief case to hold it. There were no personal computers, let alone laptops and PDA’s. A man walked on the moon when I was 10 or 11 and the Orioles were the team to beat and Baltimore had the Colts and DC had the Senators. Boy, I feel old!
Well as most of you know, to celebrate this anniversary of my birth, I will be raising money for a Sprayground to built at Stonewall Park Pool. I have always thought this was a good idea, but now it has even more of a sense of urgency. This evening I found on the trees just above the pool Gang graffiti! I have for the most part stayed out of the discourse on illegal immigration, but I will always fight for the youth in Prince William and Manasass. Gang activity cannot be tolerated! We must not let them win a foothold with our children. The staff in the City’s Parks and Rec Department has done a great job in creating a family atmosphere in this park. We will maintain it!
Please join me this Friday as I complete my 20 mile swim in 24 hours to raise money for the Sprayground. But just as important, please stop by and tell the pool staff how much we appreciate everything they have done to be a positive role model at the pool for young people. You can download the pledge form here for the event Friday. Please consider filling one out and bringing it by or mail it to my office at 8565 D Sudley Rd. Manassas VA 20110.
I’ve recently gotten pictures of the graffiti Austin spoke of, and he’s not kidding at all about how disturbing this is. We really need to clean up the mess at Stonewall Park Pool, and more lawful activity there will certainly help. Here are just a few of the pictures I’ve received:
We can do nothing, or we can step up and help Austin revitalize this park and provide a valuable resource for disabled children. You’re going to help, aren’t you?
