Free Health Care For Criminal Illegal Aliens

If we didn’t have illegal aliens committing crimes and getting themselves incarcerated in our Adult Detention Center, would county taxpayers end up bearing a lesser burden in publicly-funded health care costs? Although the MJM article today didn’t mention just how much of the $800,000 in increased costs can be attributed to providing free health care services to incarcerated illegal aliens, I would imagine the answer would be affirmative.
“Throughout the year we did see adult medical costs and pharmaceuticals for illegal immigrants that were in our system. The one thing that did run the costs up was the transportation costs … to move inmates to other facilities,” said jail superintendent Col. Peter Meletis. “We did run a shortfall and we’re requesting this amount to take care of the shortfall.”
I know we have to take care of the people in our jails, but this is annoying. Illegal aliens with chronic maladies, here’s your opportunity to get free medical services courtesy of the taxpayer. How wonderful. Perhaps we should consider taxing foreign remittances to offset the costs of incarcerating illegal aliens.

My future daughter-in-law took a job at a dental office in Woodbridge that accepts Medicaid patients. Most of their patients are Latinos that are on Medicaid - they get FREE dental services - crowns, plates, fillings, etc., all at our expense, and that kind of work is not cheap either. What costs us thousands, they get for free. Something is wrong with this picture.
The issue obviously is compounded by ICE taking additional time to pick up said persons for later deportation.
It’d be interesting to see how cost comparisons would pan out depending on length of time kept for violent vice non-violent offenders and then compare those numbers against the general population and to also look at how it compares to if they weren’t jailed (non-violent offenders) [usage of public assistance, etc]. I think the numbers would be fairly consistant across the board but it would be an interesting math excercise.
With ICE picking them up the tab transfers from PWC citizens to the entirety of the United States - so more taxpayers but a lesser share across them all.
Either way it’s ugly but as you said we can’t withhold medical treatment when they’re in the system.
The best solution is to make the deportation process more effecient. Have a goal to deport persons within 30 days and streamline the process to do so.
From a County perspective, we need to make sure that the ADC is effeciently moving prisoners (without compromising safety/security). Maybe have some citizens review the Jail Board’s numbers, data and processes.

Meletis stated at the BOCS meeting that ICE is picking up illegal’s with detainers within 72 hours. This is after Congressman Wolf got on ICE about not picking them up.
I would tend to believe that the medical costs are incurred when they are serving a sentence for the crime they committed.
Chief Skinner told the Manassas City Council that ICE has been picking up illegals from the ADC every other day. Holding illegal aliens until ICE picks them up has pretty much become a non-factor in the jail as a result.

This is not a fact. Having worked in Social Services for more than 28 years, I can tell you hat ddpdrinker is not reporting facts.
Adult dental services are limited to MEDICALLY necessary oral surgery and associated diagnostic services, such as X-rays and surgical extractions. Preventive, restorative, endodontics, and prosthetic services e.g. cleanings, fillings, root canals, caps and dentures ARE NOT COVERED FOR ADULTS. In most cases pre-authorization for services is required and normally adults are not covered for dental services. Children are covered up to age 21.
To be eligible for Medicaid the information given is checked against federal, state and local records including the Virginia Employment Commission and the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine if it is correct, accurate and truthful. In addition, Social Security numbers will be used to verify identity, prevent receipt of benefits from more than one social service agency at the same time.
The Income and Eligibility Verification System will also be used to verify information. This system uses Social Security numbers to verify wages and salary, unemployment benefits and unearned income by using records from the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration. In addition, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Homeland Security) will be used to verify the status of immigrants. Any differences between the information you give and these records will be investigated.
PLEASE GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.
BTW the only children covered by Medicaid are legal immigrants who qualify or children born in the US. The same verifications are required for children as for adults to be eligible for Medicaid.

Marie- but if a person has stolen someone else’s identity ( SSN) and or more than one person is using that same SSN, or they purchased a SSN illegally, how is that a check and balance?
I always said that if it can be thought of, it can happen, Are you saying that this possibility could NEVER happen with Medicaid?
Sounds like ICE is missing a sure thing by not sponsoring a few fee clinics around Northern Virginia.

I am not saying that someone would not slip through but I can tell you the determination of Medicaid and other public assistance benefits is a tedious process which requires checking many, many systems to verify eligibility including immigration status.
Social Services has ways to determine if a SS number has been stolen. There are many checks and balances in determining the eligibility of applicants. Everyone must provide a certificate of live birth. It may not be a copy. They must also provide an original SS card. Social Services has access to many verification systems including but not limited to Social Security, Homeland Security, DMV, VEC and other more sophisticated systems that check and cross check the information provided by an applicant.

I’m sorry but I have heard of many many many people abusing the system..living off of the system etc etc..you know the old saying ” she/He is working the system” I dont have much faith in the system at all! I sincerely think if all the checks and balances were solid, there would be no issue at all and becuase you cannot guarantee me that it is in fact fool proof, then how can you tell someone to get their facts straight and then supply information that you yourself has just admitted not to be 100 percent?
Do medicaid cards have a photo ID on it? Who’s to say someone couldnt “borrow” a persons medicaid card for Hospitals, dentals etc etc..

You are correct nothing is 100%, nothing. Just because you have heard that many, many people abuse the system does not make it the truth or a fact. Do you know anyone?
Does your insurance card have a photo ID? What is to prevent someone from using your insurance card? If you have used the hospital lately, you would know they required a photo ID along with your insurance card. Many doctors and dentists do the same. There has never been a report to my knowledge than someone has used a Medicaid card that was not theirs because of the reason I state above-picture ID required.
Actually I have never been asked to show an ID in a Doctors office or Dentist. I have insurance through my Employer which I pay for every pay check and I also have a co-pay and I am under the impression Medicaid is free to its recipients…so comparing the 2 is like apples to oranges.

If an illegal alien gets ANY treatment, the next stop should be ICE detainment, fingerprinting, photo, and ultimately deportation. Period. There should be no fence balancing on this issue at all.

I have issues with ALL of it and I am on the fence as to where I stand with illegal immigration, I do know I didnt like the inlux in our County and I also didnt appreciate the cultural shock of it all…BUT….illegals are still human beings and I blame my GOVERNMENT FOR PUTTING ME IN THIS SITUATION OF FEELING LIKE I HAVE TO CHOOSE! I fully agree with you and I am too frustrated in the inactions of our Gov’t. All I believe in is that we treat them, yes; hold and deportation shortly after treatment, yes. No setting them free to continue the abuse of the system. A bus ticket to the border is much cheaper than free medical care.
but hospitals do not check for citizenship so.. we can treat them..and treat them…and treat them…

There is a co-pay for Medicaid services.
Yes, anyone needing health who goes to the hospital must get care. That is a Federal law.
If an illegal or undocumented immigrant applies for public assistance they are denied. They can apply but are not eligible for public assistance, food stamps or medicaid.
There is a co-pay for Medicaid services and RX’s filled using Medicaid.

Yes, there are some limited medical emergencies paid with public funds but they are few and far between. What kind of society would deny health care to someone who has a real emergency? We are supposed to be a humane society are we not?

Jail costs are higher because 860 criminal illegal aliens have been picked up. Costs are being covered by the Fed Gov.

illegal aliens should pay for everything. Either in dollars or work. If they are awaiting time in the clink for immigration violations then they should be working while they are there. Sheriff Joe in Arizona has it right, they work on chaingangs all day and do meaningful work. in addition, it costs like 1.35 to feed them for a day (baloney sandwiches)
this sounds like a pretty good plan, Sheriff Joe’s method should be a model for PWC. that would cut down costs. They dont deserve to be here and they do not deserve to cost us money to deport them.
as for healthcare, work them hard and they’ll stay healthy. the quicker they are deported the less drain on our support systems. the whole key here is keeping that turn-over at the jail turning fast, the more it’s reduced the less we spend to house and feed these people.
So we set up a free clinic with a sound proofed back room. In that sound proofed door is a back door that leads to an ICE van or bus parked in the back.
Let’s ask Sheriff Joe if he would like to move to PWC. He could use his detainees to clean up the gang taggings etc.
A family friend recently enrolled her son in her local elementary school for kindergarden. The school handed her an orientation packet outlining, among other things, how to get social services (Medicaid, FAMIS, Section 8 and food stamps).
My friend’s married surname is Moran - as in some paternal ancestor of her husband’s family hailed from Ireland. Last summer, I walked into a McDonalds to buy a soda. Sitting on the counter was a donation box with the photo of someone in a hospital bed, along with a lengthy letter.
It described the person in the photo as a 20 year old man who had been in a fight. He spent several weeks in a hospital ER before dying of his wounds. As the young man was from El Salvador, the family was asking for donations so that the could pay to have his body sent back to “our country”. One-way ticket = $8,000.00.
Zero mention of how much his hospital bill cost. Zero requests for donations to reimburse anyone for his health care.
I heard a great story from my dentist. She filled a tooth on one Latino patient. When she submitted the paper work to the insurance company their reply was, “That’s impossible! We paid a claim in which he had that tooth removed 6 months ago!” Turns out a number of people were all going to different dentists claiming to be the same person. Sneaking bastards!
Aging U.S. will miss Mexican Immigrants
The Mexican Consul General of Phoenix says that Mexican workers are leaving the U.S. in response to heightened immigration enforcement (stepped up raids and tough laws at the municipal level) but that in coming decades, the U.S. will be sorry it pushed out these young, able-bodied workers.
Speaking to the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, Carlos Flores Vizcarra said demographic estimates show that within 30 years, nearly 77 million Americans will retire: “So the question is, who will take the place of those folks who are retiring?” he asked. Mexico is also facing a shortage of labor in coming decades, Flores added, and the U.S. will not find it easy to lure these workers back.
While everyone knows that low wages in Mexico are partially responsible for the numbers of Mexicans leaving the country seeking work elsewhere, the population explosion south of the border also has been a factor, he said. During World War II, Mexico had 18 million citizens; today, 20 million foreign-born residents of Mexican descent live in the U.S. –that’s more than the entire population of the country in the 1940s. And Mexico’s population has quintupled, to about 107 million people.
“It’s like a revolution that no country could have digested,” Flores said. “What has been our safety valve? The U.S.”
But Mexicans seeking a better climate for immigrants aren’t just going back to Mexico, Vizcarra said. They’re heading north to Canada.
“Canada is pressing on Mexico so that Mexico can provide more labor to Canda,” he said. “From this moment, Mexico is looking to the Canadian horizon, maybe with more interest than to the U.S., basicaly because of the sluggish economy here in America, and also becuase Canada is discovering new economic frontiers in Manitoba and Alberta.”
E-COLI AND SALMONELLA OUTBREAKS.
It was not until illegal aliens started working in our meat processing plants that we have had outbreaks of E-coli and out breaks of salmonella in our produce. We do not know if jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, etc are from Mexico or here. Our government does not want to tell us because we would not buy it and eat it. For that reason, I grow most of my vegetables and if it is not grown by me, I do not eat it.
Then there are cheap items made in China making us and our children sick and killing our cats and dogs. You cannot find anything made in the USA unless you go to the Salvation Army Thrift stores.
With the flood of illegal aliens coming into this country costing us financially and with our lives and our government does not want to stop it they want more. Our government just doesnt have a backbone. Spineless clowns.

You can, however, they tend to be higher-quality items that most people are not willing to pay extra for.
I like good tools…using a poor quality tool is frustrating at best…and the best tools I’ve ever used are made in the USA. They’re not the cheapest ones you’ll find…I spent $20 for a wire cutter/crimper tool (made by Klein Tools). You can get such a tool for $5 that includes a wire stripper too, but it’s not even worth $5 for as well as it works, which is to say it doesn’t work at all.
Apparently, there is a market for this low-priced stuff because people buy it, but for me it is not worth my time or sanity to fight with a poorly made tool, or to go back and redo something that failed due to the poor results from using poor-quality tools.
The way I figure it, that $20 tool has saved me much more than $15 in aggravation vs. the $5 tool.

Other than your first paragraph, most of what you say is true. However, Obama is just a bad or worse and most of what you say inregards to deals, beliefs, knowledge and direction are true for both candidates, not just McCain.
Spread the blood letting. Neither is a friend to America and neither has any intention on solving the illegal debate and neither has any interest on forwarding the 287 g program. Additionally, the democrat led Senate has tried to curtail almost all funding for programs such as ours in Manassas and PWC. A few true Americans are in the republican corner and it is clear that all true democrats, including those who maybe elected, will vote with the gang to stop funding for programs against the illegals.
McCain shamefully sided with killer Kennedy on his amnesty bill - shameful and pathetic. Obama is in the same camp, there is no difference except as a democrat, he is assured of faster passage.
I have no answer except it will take Americans waking up in every corner and forget their parties. It is time to be an American much like we were on Sept 12, 2001 and December 8, 1941. This is a true call to arms. It will take the regular civilian to stop our government selling out our birthright and our childrens’s heritage.

Tennessee Tyson plant to forgo Labor Day, celebrate a Muslim holiday instead

A Tyson Foods poultry plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee, will no longer celebrate Labor Day. Instead, the union that representing workers at the plant has negotiated a contract substituting a Muslim holiday as one of the plant’s eight paid holidays. The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union pact has delighted the plant’s Somali workers, who account for hundreds of its 1,200 employees.
Many outside the plant, however, are infuriated. One person wrote: ‘You had no right to drop Labor Day. Muslim employees must integrate Labor Day into THEIR lives if they are going to live in America.’
Under the five-year contract at the Tennessee plant, Id al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, is now one of the plant’s eight paid holidays.
Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), says it is outrageous that union employees at the Tyson processing plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee, will not have Labor Day as a paid holiday this year, but instead will celebrate the end of Ramadan on October 1. The plant has also provided a ‘prayer room’ to accommodate the 250 Muslim employees, mostly Somalis, who work at the plant.
“Tyson is giving all workers, Muslim and non-Muslim workers, an Islamic holiday off and replacing Labor Day. I mean it’s really pretty outrageous.” Krikorian added.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Calling it a possible threat to national security, federal immigration agents raided a parachute manufacturing company in Asheville on Tuesday.
They took into custody 59 illegal aliens who were working on the assembly line making parachutes for the U.S. armed forces.
Immigration and Customs Enforcements Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge for Charlotte Del Richburg said removing the illegal immigrants plugged a gap at the Mill Manufacturing plant that could have been a threat to members of the military who used those parachutes.
NewsChannel 36 reporter Rad Berky was at the county jail in Henderson County when an I.C.E. bus arrived with those who had been picked up.
There were 40 women and 19 men who are now being processed. Agents say 29 of them, mostly women, will be released on their own recognisance for humanitarian reasons, meaning they have children or health issues.
The others will be held pending hearings in Atlanta that could lead to deportation.
Mills Manufacturing has made parachutes for the military since World War II. ICE agents say the company cooperated in the investigation and had been duped by false identity papers provided by the illegal aliens.
