Fernandez Vows 200 Foot Billboard Will Be Built
By Greg L | 6 September 2008 | Manassas City | 35 Comments
According to the MJM, Gaudencio Fernandez will continue his effort to get approval for a two hundred foot long billboard to replace the forty foot long billboard that he recently demolished. You’d think that after already being told that you are not allowed under the building code to erect an accessory structure on the premises (such as a billboard) when there is no primary structure, and that the property is not zoned for this kind of use, he’d realize that this just can’t be legally done in the Historic district, or anywhere else in the city for that matter. Still, he intends to tilt at this windmill.
Fernandez’ expressed intent here is to erect a billboard that would showcase the Latino community.
Also on Friday, Fernandez reiterated his plans to apply for a special use permit for a 200-foot-long by 14-foot-high new sign to be placed on the same property. Fernandez said he hopes that the new wall will showcase the Latino community and its “contributions to this great country.”
I’d say the contributions of the Latino community of late are just a little bit on the thin side. Besides calling the rest of us all a bunch of racists because we’re concerned about residential overcrowding, MS-13, illegal aliens, day labor sites, gang graffiti, and public safety problems, we haven’t seen Fernandez showcase much in the way of a positive contribution whatsoever. Had Fernandez actually bothered to make any positive contribution to the City, or for Mexicans Without Borders with which he seems inseparable made a single positive contribution, perhaps some of us would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and at least be willing to entertain his ideas so long as they’re consistent with local building and zoning codes.
The pattern of behavior here has been one of consistent civic vandalism, and for better or worse Fernandez and his ilk have made themselves spokesmen for the Latino community. They’ve organized boycotts against businesses that would not fall in line with their political agenda. They’ve decried public safety initiatives that would remove criminal illegal aliens from our community rather than release them back into our community. They make the ridiculous claim that illegal aliens from central America be exempt from federal law because they are somehow “Native Americans” — tribalism at it’s very best. With this record, residents of Manassas and Prince William County are well justified in being suspicious about anything Fernandez and his Zapatista allies may propose.
Fernandez has set up a blog and it should be interesting to see what shows up on it. I expect his virtual tribute to the “contributions” of the Latino community will tell us a lot about what he would intend to do with a billboard five times the size of the one he removed under legal pressure. Since Fernandez wasn’t fined in any way for his serial violations of municipal codes over the past two years, he is certain to be emboldened to continue to behave just as before and the result should be rather telling.

There’s a shock. This guy will continue to be a divisive, racist pain in the a$$ until he leaves the area. Perhaps a vocal boycott of his business? Are liberal tactics effective against liberals?
seems like his blog is a real hit, not one post on it yet. probably because it’s moderated and there’s nothing good to say about the wall. I’m surprised 9500 liberty super-awesome filmmakers with their self-generated wikiipedia pages were not in attendance? Now that their “sign-post” is down they’ll have to call themselves something else. that said, were were the “women” from the other blog? Thought they would eat this stuff up?
in any case, fernandez is stupid if he thinks the city will approve a 200ft long sign, he’s apparently insane. They wont approve it I’m sure, it still has to be approved by a “board” and that means people need to vote on it correct?
I am so sad that this poor boy has to tolerate such a horrid life as this country has to offer. You think I’d put up with all this??? No way, if I were he, I’d go home to Mexico where there is love, caring, and peace…and there IS no racism!!
It’s hard to beleive that any Latino or Legal resident would endorse the actions of Fernandez and company.
People usually come here to make a new life in a country of law abiding and opportunity . They respect our Laws and way of life, yet they can maintain a culture they are use to,without being a real Pest to all their neighbors.
Most areas that I have seen and encountered in my 40 + years in this County
welcome and have many friends that are Latino and are legal residents.
This kind of garbage of Fernandez is not accepted by most American Citizens and the Legal Immigrants that has come to this country.
There is no way we can start a trend of allowing Illegals to erect signs,no matter the size.
It won’t stop and they will keep shoving BUT we need to shove back.
See what happens when laws are not followed? This guy thinks he can just keep going and going because the elites(some even are on the City Council) feel we should not enforce immigration laws. Lawlessness leads to more lawlessness. But, we need to worry more about our reputation.
Every local Liberal I know feels the same way that every local Conservative I know feels about the billboard and the intentional destruction by the owner of the beautiful historic home at 9500 Liberty Street… and that feeling is a mix of disgust, anger, contempt and sadness.
These actions are an assault upon the community, no matter one’s race, political affiliation, guiding philosophy or religion. I feel safe in saying that home town Liberals are as mad as home town Conservatives about this whole thing.
The owner is pursuing his own commercial and financial self-interest here, using the Law and the Constitution and the good faith of the community as a sword and a shield not in defense of liberty, but as tools to satisfy his own naked greed.
Liberal is not in all instances a fair or appropriate synonym for wrong thinking. To the extent that Gaudencio Fernandez and his allies have co-opted the tenets of liberalsim to justify their actions, they have equally co-opted the tenets of our Constitution.
This episode is an opportunity to unite our community in common cause against a threat to all of us who genuinely love this place. Let’s please leave the Conservative vs. Liberal out of this as it doesn’t fairly describe the “us vs. them” that is really operative here.
What is his business? I will be sure to avoid it.
I would love to know where his business is, so I can exercise my freedom of speech rights nearby.
I think you could say that he is a true “community organizer” in the mold of cultural anachists like La Raza and Casa de Maryland.
steve,
very wise words to heed for sure. Thanks for the great post! Even the king himself is man enough to admit when truth is spoken
One of my friends used his “remodeling” skills. The building inspector wouldn’t pass his work until several revisions. He has a construction/remodeling/plumbing/electrical business. I think it’s based out of his truck, like the “gypsies” in NJ.
I tried to post on the 9500 blog, it was erased. Liberals and criminals can’t stand the truth.
He’d better not be doing plumbing or electrical. He’s not licensed for them:

Unlicensed-
Thank you for doing the work that I’m too lazy/ignorant to do!
Seriously, thanks for putting that up. My friend was very dissatisfied with his work. He purchased a brick ranch home in Point of Woods that had been used as a flop house. He’s still replacing/fixing things. The full basement was converted into 4 bedrooms, a full bath and a kitchen. He had to remove the kitchen and basically redo all of the electrical and plumbing. The former owner ran the house for years without any maintenance or repairs. Of course, the swimming pool was the trash pile. He’s got it in pretty nice shape now, after several years and a lot of money.
interesting, if he did unlicensed work wouldnt that be against the law? this guy seems like a sham, I hope he’s not getting hired out by anyone, he could kill someone with the horrible work he purports to do.
“interesting, if he did unlicensed work wouldnt that be against the law?”
Indeed.
18VAC50-22-30. Definitions of specialty services.
“Home improvement contracting” (Abbr: HIC) means that service which provides for repairs or improvements to one-family and two-family residential buildings or structures annexed to real property. The BLD classification also provides for this function. The HIC specialty does not provide for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or gas fitting functions. It does not include high rise buildings, buildings with more than two dwelling units, or new construction functions beyond the existing building structure other than decks, patios, driveways and utility out buildings.
Let me emphasize…
“The HIC specialty does not provide for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or gas fitting functions.”
If Fernandez hires a licensed plumber or an electrician to perform this work, it’s perfectly OK. It is not OK for him to do it himself, or to have someone he got at the Coverstone 7-11 do it.
Johnson-
Has your friend reported his dissatisfication with the quality of G&F Construction workmanship to the Better Business Bureau? Has he reported it to the City Manager? Or the Economic and Developement Office? Has he contacted the Project Inspector who signed off on the job? Has he called in 7 On Your Side?
I’d report it to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
By the way, he is a Class C contractor (Class A and B are significantly harder to qualify for). That means the work he did for you should have been less than $7,500 worth:
“Class C contractors” perform or manage construction, removal, repair, or improvements when (i) the total value referred to in a single contract or project is over $1,000 but less than $7,500, or (ii) the total value of all such construction, removal, repair, or improvements undertaken by such person within any 12-month period is less than $150,000. The Board shall require a master tradesmen license as a condition of licensure for electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractors.
I am surprised that he even has a license. So reading between the lines here, he probably was an illegal that took the amnesty offer in 1986 if he came over here in 1979 from Mexico. If he continues to break laws can his citizenship be taken back?
A couple of my friends and family from out of state think the guy is a major idiot for the sign, they ask why couldn’t he have just rented a billboard if he wants to get his message out.
I think that the sign was a rallying call to a lot of people to awaken and start calling their elected officials and email them about illegals being here in the county and the country, so thank you Mr. Fernandez.
I will advise my friend of his options. You guys are great. Lots of good info.
Fernandez was run out of a county down south, I want to say Stafford but I don’t remember. He went down after a tornado and was run out of town.
There will be public hearings if he ever decides to follow the law and apply for a permit for his billboard. Everyone, and I mean everyone should be there to say HELL no!!!!!!!
NOT -
I saw the news clip on him being run out of town after the tornado - and it was Stafford. I was more than happy to see that happen!
wow,
he must be a hell of a contractor
from what the other guy said about him (supposedly a friend) this guy is the greatest carpenter since jesus!
however it appears this guy really sucks, buyer beware really applies here. and another thought came to mind, how would you know if this guy is hiring legal people or not? I wouldnt bet on him going the legal route knowing who his friends are
“I am surprised that he even has a license.”
If you knew just how easy it is to get a Class C contractors license, you wouldn’t be.
I think you just apply if I remember correctly? Similar to something like a handyman’s permit or something similar.
I think if you just fill out the paperwork and pay a fee you are good to go but I could be mistaken.
so what happens when he starts building the new wall? you know this is going to happen. how can the city stop him? he knows he won’t get a
permit for it. i imagine driving by the coverstone 7/11 one morning, no day laborers there, they are all at 9500 liberty street constructing a wall….
“I think if you just fill out the paperwork and pay a fee you are good to go but I could be mistaken.”
That’s about it. I’d be surprised if anyone posting here could not get one.

Deport one, and a hundred will leave on their own.
I see Fernandez’s blog has become quite a hit. Zero posts so far.
The only racists in Manassas are Mexicans Without Borders, the Zapatistas, the illegal aliens and their supporters and this moron crackhead Fernandez.
zeezil pulling out the race card
I tried to post on Fernandez’s blog. Apparently, he didn’t approve of my comments and did not post my comments. So much for socialism/liberalism and open minds.
Funny Anonymous…you know the saying, “people who live in glass houses…,” or “what goes around, comes around?”
Actually, there are plenty of people of all races who could accurately be labeled “racist.” Personally, I’ve witnessed far more of that amongst the groups that zeezil mentioned, not to mention misogyny and pedaphelia.
I should rephrase that to say, “…far more amongst the people that the groups that zeezil mentioned support…”
