Fimian Takes The Lead In The Eleventh
By Greg L | 7 September 2008 | Fairfax County, US Congress, Prince William County | 10 Comments
Eleventh District Congressional candidate Keith Fimian addressed the crowd at the 7th annual “Boots & Barbecue” at Supervisor Stirrup’s house this afternoon and broke some interesting news. His internal polls had been showing him in a dead heat with Gerry Connolly for quite some time, which was then confirmed by an outside polling group. Keith then hit the airwaves with ads in the past several weeks, and the word Fimian is getting is that Connolly’s numbers haven’t moved while Fimian continues to gain momentum. The take-away here is that Fimian is leading, and Connolly is in trouble.
Connolly may very well have peaked. Support for Connolly isn’t dependent on his name recognition, since voters already know who he is. A substantial problem for Connolly is that his name recognition leads to unfavorable sentiments in a significant portion of the electorate, a problem magnified by the recent revelation of a budget shortfall in Fairfax County and increasing crime rates in the county. There are only so many voters that Connolly is likely to connect with, and it may well be that he has exhausted that pool. This would explain the rather desperate attacks he’s launched on Fimian’s faith a few weeks back, as he really needs to come up with something that will blunt the widening lead that Fimian now has.
Fimian is hammering Connolly on his record (and there’s plenty there to hammer at), putting his cash advantage to good use while Connolly is forced to keep his campaign funds largely in reserve for the last few weeks. An influx of outside money on either side could change this, but when Fimian’s job is to boost his name recognition and his position as an alternative to Connolly, he has a much easier job to do than Connolly, who has to turn around those who hold negative perceptions. With Fimian on the attack, that gets measurably more difficult, leading to a case where Connolly has to spend multiple dollars to get the same results that Fimian gets with one. Even with outside cash potentially coming to Connolly, it would be very difficult to get enough of it to make the difference.
This isn’t in the bag for Fimian, but this positive news is a pretty dramatic shift from what had been the conventional wisdom only a few months ago. With continued support, Fimian is likely to do what many thought to be very unlikely: the defeat of Boss Connolly in a general election.

Circulating this story should help Fimian. It shows how sanctuaries continue to kill the innocent, and that the likes of Connolly have blood on their hands that cannot be washed away with the false defense that such tragedies are unforseeable. The willful neglect of public safety is never justified. In this case, the illegal had been previously arrested 16 times, but never deported. He has used 11 aliases, two birth dates, and birth places including Mexico.

That’s wonderful news!!! It certainly inspires me to work harder for Keith Fimian — I was concerned that he was gonna get whacked hard and decisively by “the liberal to the north.”
…but we can’t sit idly by, get your Fimian yard signs and bumper stickers and talk to your friends and neighbors. Now is when Gerry Connolly, in desperation, will likely take his campaigning to the 7-11 day laborer sites in Fairfax…maybe he’ll hire them to put bumper stickers on cars — no English required.
Please. This guy doesn’t stand a chance. The sheeple almost always vote for the candidate with name recognition. Connolly will walk away with this. Hey, at least on the bright side we will get him out of FFC politics at least.
That’s encouraging news, especially since I received no less than 5 fliers in 4 days bashing Fimian and his faith. All of them were variations on the same exact message.
Funny how the Democratic Campaign Committee will stretch like this to create broad assumptions about someone at the same time they admonish folks on the Right for showing similar connections between Obama and his church.
Damn, if I could move to the 11th district (from my 8th district) I would do so just be counted in this election.
One only needs to see what Connolly has done to Fairfax County to know his political agenda - and it isn’t in line with “Obama’s Plan.”
Connolly in the House is one more vote for what many of the things we don’t want.
Fimian may be a long shot, but with a campaign by the people to get behind him and build name recognition, he can move to the forefront.
Let me know if there is anything I can do “out of district.”
I think Anon is right, the sheeple vote for the the wolf-cum-shepard whose name they recognize. The campaign literature and TV comercials be hanged.
However. Can the Democrat party make it a habit of demonizing someone’s faith if they are conservative? How long can they expect this to work before they pay a price?
A footnote to the Aurora, Colorado tragedy mentioned aobve: ICE never bothered to show up at the jail where Hernandez is held to inquire into his citizenship. That’s the epitome of being a sanctuary jurisdiction. Too late to save his three victims, his bond has been raised from $10,000 to $250,000 upon verifying he is an illegal.

So far Barr and Fimian are getting my vote… I have no clue what I’m doing on the Senate race yet (not that it matters)
It’s really not about the person, it needs to be about the Party.
It doesn’t matter if Connolly is more fun to drink a beer with than Keith, or if Gilmore isn’t pro-life enough for some Conservatives who are threatening not to vote in the Senate race.
The fact is that the Democratic Congress is failing America. We live in a very dangerous world and we need to protect our freedom and our homeland. Everyone needs to remember that on election day and vote Republican!
Actually, I think Keith would be more fun to drink a beer with than Gerry. Keith could talk about his football days. What’s Gerry gonna talk about?
The mailers were hateful. I received no less than seven of them from the DCCC. They didn’t just bash Keith Fimian. They bashed all practicing Catholics (practicing Catholics are the only kind of Catholics, really; Gerry, although he once considered priesthood apparently, is no longer a practicing Catholic).
I didn’t hear the libs b*tching when Tim Kaine ran. He is a practicing Catholic. He’s pro-life. He’s actually rather morally suspicious of the death penalty, which made him more pro-life than Kilgore.
Keith Fimian has not made his faith an issue. I don’t think it is an issue. He hasn’t gone door to door trying to snatch his neighbors’ condoms yet. So I kind of doubt he’d tried to do that in office.
I’m a bit of a feminist, really (not the scary kind), but the DCCC flyers have made me decide once and for all that Fimian is the guy I’m voting for. I realized the Dems have *nothing* to commend Gerry to us, so they are just going to bash Keith for his religion. That’s low, low, low.
