I got the chance to talk to John McCains brother, Joe at John Stirrup’s yesterday. He said McCain does NOT think babies born in the U.S. to illegal alien parents should get citizenship. That was all we could get out of him on illegal immigration.

That’s funny, given that he maintains a Spanish web site appealing for votes.

Will McCain be speaking in English, or Spanish?

    Title: “Commitment V. Rhetoric”

How do you know someone is a friend?

You know because they stand up and defend you when it is hard.

When Hispanics needed a friend in Congress during the immigration debate… Who stood up? Who spoke out?

    John McCain.

Senator McCain worked with Republicans and Democrats alike to form immigration legislation.

And while the bill didn’t pass, only McCain demonstrated a real commitment to reforming immigration in a way that honored our laws as well as our immigrants and traditions.

    And Barack Obama?

Obama did not stand up. Obama did not speak out. And when the time came for him to do the right thing, he did not.

Obama supported measures designed to insert a deadly “poison pill” to kill the immigration legislation.

If Obama didn’t even have the courage to stand up for immigrants, how can he claim to have the strength to change the way Washington works?

Rick, I spoke with Joe McCain yesterday and stressed to him that 80% of Americans do not want amnesty and want the border secured. I stressed that John McCain needs to listen to the American people and that his job was to do what Americans want, not what John McCain feels is best. He promised that he would convey the sentiments to his brother.

This is when we learned that McCain is opposed to birthright citizenship, and believes it is an incentive for illegal aliens to come to America. McCain believes that birthright citizenship should end, and that an amendment to the Constitution will probably be necessary to effect the end of birthright citizenship.

McCain’s record shows that he voted for English as the official language. Obama, of course, voted against it.

McCain is selling illegal-friendly Hispanics the same swill he’s selling America. Some of you are lining up to put it down your throat. You’re about as conservative as Karl Marx.

It’s clear he’s the front-runner at this point and I’m not happy about that.

Virginia is an important state and McCain wouldn’t want to lose it. If enough of you really cared about the illegal immigration issue, McCain’s feet could be held to the fire and this issue could gain some prominance. But so many of you are too f***ing stupid, a bunch of manipulated sheep. Enjoy your President Juan McCain, enjoy your supposedly conservative Executive Branch (which we just had one of, supposedly).

Wave your flag, vote for McCain, obviously that gets you through the day. The man will do America no good. But you’re going to go pull that lever, because his negative ads touched your hearts.

McCain has promised to build the fence and then deal with immigration reform.

“This is when we learned that McCain is opposed to birthright citizenship”

DON’T BE SUCH A MORON. The man is lterally saying one thing in English and one thing in Spanish.

Judge a man by his actions. Some of his actions are honorable but his actions on this issue to me are disgraceful, literally disgraceful. He fought harder than anyone to falsely define the debate.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12155322/

he took more questions, including a pointed one on his immigration plan.

McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona.

Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer.

“I’ll take it!” one man shouted.

McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends.”

Some in the crowd said they didn’t appreciate McCain questioning their work ethic.

here he is saying he will pursue the red herring of closing the border BEFORE taking the more necessary step of turning off the jobs magnet -

    http://www.ontheissues.org/celeb/John_McCain_Immigration.htm

Q: Your 2006 immigration proposal was much broader and included a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who were already here. At this point, if your original proposal came to a vote on the Senate floor, would you vote for it?
A: No, it would not, because we know what the situation is today. So to say that that would come to the floor of the Senate, it won’t. We went through various amendments which prevented that proposal. We will secure the borders first when I am president. I know how to d that. I come from a border state, where we know about building walls, and vehicle barriers, and sensors, and all of the things necessary. I will have the border state governors certify the borders are secured. Then we will move onto the other aspects of this issue, as importantly as tamper-proof biometric documents, which then, unless an employer hires someone with those documents, that employer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That will cause a lot of people to leave voluntarily.

He wants to deport 2 million and keep 18 million (encouraging another 40 million in), that’s your definition of a “conservative”. Open your eyes - here in 2008 he implies he’ll let 90% of illegal aliens stay and implies that their being here IS NOT A CRIME :

    http://www.ontheissues.org/celeb/John_McCain_Immigration.htm

Q: Mitt Romney says in a TV ad, “McCain supported this year’s amnesty bill. Amnesty for illegals: that’s straight talk for being in Washington too long.” You said back in 2003. “I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible. Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here, paid taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it.”
A: Look, I have said time after time that no one can be reward for illegal behavior. The context of that conversation, don’t you call that “amnesty.” I have said in hundreds of hours of debate on the Senate floor, we reward no one for illegal behavior They have to pay fines. They have to take the naturalization. About two million people here in this country who have come illegally, have committed crimes here in America, and they have to be deported immediately.

Here he all but promises the perpetuation of ESOL classes on your tax dollar -

Q: Do you think that there would be a practical value of making English our official language?
A: I think the most practical value is to make English used by all Americans and all citizens, and all who come here. The only way we move up the economic ladder from the bottom rung is to know English. And I would emphasize the importance of every person who comes to this country to become a citizen and enjoy its liberties & beauty is to learn English. And I will do everything I can to help them do that.

Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
Voting YEA would table (kill) the proposed amendment to prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving Social Security benefits. Voting NAY supports that prohibition, while voting YEA supports immigrants participating in Social Security. Text of amendment:
To reduce document fraud, prevent identity theft, and preserve the integrity of the Social Security system, by ensuring that persons who receive an adjustment of status under this bill are not able to receive Social Security benefits as a result of unlawful activity.
Proponents of the amendment say to vote NAY because:
The Immigration Reform bill would allow people to qualify for social security based on work they did while they were illegally present in the US and illegally working in the US. People who broke the law to come here and broke the law to work here can benefit from their conduct to collect social security.
In some cases, illegal immigrants may have stolen an American citizen’s identity. They may have stolen an American’s social security number to fraudulently work. This amendment corrects this problem.
Opponents of the amendment say to vote YEA because:
Americans understand that for years there are undocumented workers who have tried to follow our laws and be good neighbors and good citizens, and have paid into the Social Security Trust Fund.
Once that person regularizes his or her status, and as they proceed down the path to earned citizenship, they should have the benefit after having followed the law and made those contributions. That is fairness.
We should not steal their funds or empty their Social Security accounts. That is not fair. It does not reward their hard work or their financial contributions.
The amendment proposes to change existing law to prohibit an individual from gaining the benefit of any contributions made while the individual was in an undocumented status. I oppose this amendment and believe it is wrong.

But if one considers it a particularly important issue, one should consider voting for neither party, and making sure that the one that courts them knows why.

    MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

    OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)

    DIVIDEND TAX

    MCCAIN
    15% (no change)

    OBAMA
39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that ‘Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.’)

Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.

    NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least….New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

During a speech yesterday before a Hispanic caucus at the Democratic National Convention in Denver Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, signaled that if elected her husband would attempt to grant amnesty to every illegal alien in the United States.

Obama stated that “we would have an immigration policy that brings 12 million people out of the shadows” and that “Hispanics should not have to live in fear of raids by immigration agents.”

Michelle Obama went on to say that “Hispanics are often the first to suffer in an economic downturn and the last to benefit during a recovery.” While it is understandable that Obama is trying to court Hispanic voters, her remarks on Hispanic employment appear incorrect.

As the Senate mulled immigration in 2006, McCain often stood in the Capitol’s corridors, pounding his fist in the air, arguing that border enforcement would not work without simultaneously penalizing employers who hire workers illegally, creating a temporary worker program and finding a way to bring 12 million illegal immigrants “out of the shadows” of society.

“It won’t work! It won’t work!” he protested of suggestions to do enforcement first. The stool cannot stand on one leg.

75% think that most of the people who have moved to United States in the last few years are here illegally.

70% believe that illegal immigrants do more to weaken the economy because they don’t pay taxes and use public services.
69% feel that illegal immigrants should be prosecuted for being in the U.S. illegally.
60% disapprove of President Bush’s handling of the immigration issue.
45% (a plurality) believe that a guest worker program would eventually increase the illegal immigration population in the United States because workers would over-stay their visas.

I applaud your efforts in this regard. I know that your sons and daughters who go off and fight for freedom in distant lands must be so proud when they come back to their home towns and see the wonderful embracement of this vibrant culture that is transforming your area.

Please tell all your Latino friends that I will also be speaking at a small Spanish-only gathering later on Wednesday night, at a residence in the town of Manassas. The address is 9500 Liberty Avenue. I will stressing themes of responsibility and contrition at this meeting and unveiling my new “Bring Them Out of the Shadows and Encourage 50 Million More” initiative. This is no Amnesty my friends. I am going to insist that no one living here illegally will be able to stay if they have murdered anyone and don’t have a good excuse. If this is the case, and we can detect it, they will have to remain illegal. Everyone else will have to meet a set of criteria for citizenship that Senator Kennedy and I worked out - they need to pay a $500 fine, plus $100 per child which will be invested in a bilingual scholorship fund, and they will have to prove that they can work a ballot machine and be able to vote for incumbents.

My friends, I look forward to gladhanding you all. I ask that you each bring a small tube of personal lubricant to the event - the purpose will become clear at the meeting. Thank you and god bless you all.

I also want to thank you all for your support and invite you to come to Wednesday’s event.

I have my own thoughts on the matter of illegal immigration. It reminds me of something that happened back in my home town of Wasilisuk. We had a problem with stray sea otters that were coming into our back yard. You see, we had a neighbor who made coats out of sea otters, and he was luring them into our back yard. We came to find out he was actually taking the sea otter food out of our backyard igloo and luring the sea otters onto our property with it. They had started building homes in our backyard and resisted efforts to shoo them away. The sea otters were s***ing and p***ing all over the place and the food was costing us money, to say nothing of the noise that occurred during the night.

Well we thought about ignoring the problem but decided to confront it head on. We told the neighbor that he had to stop this. In return, we would let the sea otters who were already there stay and raise their families, and he could slaughter them for their skin. But no more.

Well eventually our backyard became even worse. I think a lot more sea otters came, for the free food. It was a real mess. But it worked out okay. Senator McCain kindly allowed my family and I access to one of his many houses and now everything is okay.

Barack Obama would probably have hand-fed the sea otters and attempted to organize their community! Ha. Ha. And I’m not at all convinced that some of those sea otters don’t have more experience at holding high office than Senator Obama does. Ha.

I look forward to seeing some of you Wednesday! God bless America and don’t forget to vote for the GOP!

Friends, don’t listen to all this malarky. Barack Obama and myself have all the answers. We will STOP social injustice. We will STOP racism. We will END inequity in America. We will not TOLERATE crime on the street, and we will ERADICATE war in our times. All of these things happened under the BUSH Presidency, my friends, the BUSH Presidency. That’s BUSH, B-U-S-H.

Vote for us, and everything gets better. But if you make the mistake of voting the other way, things get worse.

Barack and I want to make America STRONGER. For starters, we will increase taxes on the rich, and purchase chickens. Chickens are, you see, an excellent source of protein, and the fine Americans who mass-market dead chickens are major contributors to the Democratic party. Within 6 months of taking office, we will provide government vouchers to all American families making under $200,000 a year, who posess a pot, for one free chicken. And there’s potential for more after that.

Freedom of choice? Hey, you’ve got it under our plan. You can bake that thing, broil it - heck, make sandwiches out of it. Like Mike Brown of Allens Creek, Iowa does - he’s 87 years old, loves America, and eats chicken sandwhiches every day. So does Edna Boil of West Prairie, Texas. She told me man, I do love a good chicken sandwich. I could just eat them all the time.

I cannot emphasize enough that Barack and I stand for ALL GOOD THINGS. If you don’t believe me, check all of the European leaders and leaders on other continents that I speak to at dinner parties, who you resent so very much. They will tell you that they very much look forward to dealing with me. Thank you for your support! Let’s win this election! All good things! peace, love, and prosperity are within our grasp! Just pull that lever!

Woodbridge, Virginia (September 8, 2008) Delegate Jeffrey M. Frederick, Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, cheered the news this morning that the Republican ticket of Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin will be in Northern Virginia Wednesday morning.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are exactly the kind of leaders Virginians embrace conservative, yet independent-minded reformers who are results oriented. As Senator Fred Thompson said, the alligators in Washington might not like our ticket much, but we in Virginia are ready to help them drain that business-as-usual swamp on the other side of the Potomac, Frederick said.

With just days having passed since receiving the presidential and vice-presidential nomination, it is obvious that the Senator and Governor are making Virginia a top priority, Frederick added. Enthusiasm for John McCain and Sarah Palin is sky-high here; the citizens of the Commonwealth are thrilled to welcome McCain and Palin and to have the chance to see them up-close and in-person.

Virginia has not voted Democrat for President since 1964, and Virginia Republicans say that streak won’t change in 2008.

The McCain/Palin rally will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 10:00 a.m., at Fairfax County High School. Doors Open at 8:00a.m.

Tickets will be available at Virginia.JohnMcCain.com or in-person by visiting one of the Virginia Victory offices on Monday, September 8th from 12:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. and Tuesday, September 9th from 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.

Let’s see if McCain allows Palin to speak on Illegal Immigration. Her position is unclear and probably irrelevant as she will support McCain’s position — that is, secure the borders first (whatever that means), deport “criminal” illegal aliens, and give work permits to the rest. As much as I hate to admit it, the issue of illegal immigration in the presidential election is now a non-issue given the strikingly similar views of the two main candidates.

The great hope we have is that Americans will let their voices be heard loudly and clearly if another “comprehensive immigration reform” bill comes before any house of Congress that includes granting permanent or temporary work permits to illegal aliens WITHOUT requiring them to return to their native countries and wait in line behind those who had submitted their paperwork legally. And at least, citizens in this area support tough actions against the problems we face caused by illegal aliens in our community. We don’t need to capitulate here.

So begrudgingly we take the issue of illegal immigration out of the debate and instead focus on the issues that truly divide the candidates — taxes, Iraq, health care, business regulation, abortion, Supreme Court justices, etc. And choose your candidate based on those issues. Remember, you may also choose NOT to vote which in reality would be a vote for Barack Obama as far more conservatives will choose not to vote for McCain than former Hillary supporters not voting for Obama.

(Also and unfortunately, the Voting Rights Acts recognize Spanish as a minority language protected by the law and Spanish-language ballots or translators must assist voters in regulated jurisdictions. A lack of proficiency in English cannot preclude a voter from voting, according to the law.)

You want social engineering, you want political correctness and historical revisionism like you’ve never seen before? Then go ahead, Rick/Naughtius, and vote for Obama or just abdicate your right to vote entirely, and discount the role Congress could play in fighting amnesty and tightening borders, because you know damned well that Obama will push for amnesty.

“I trust Obama more than I trust McCain. Obama wrote 2 books and I think I can see how his mind works. McCain I find a duplicitous snake.”

You can trust a man based on the two books he has written? You “see how his mind works”? “you know damned well that Obama will push for amnesty”

I feel Obama will do exactly what he says, hold for family unification while pushing to turn off the jobs magnet, trying to fashion a “comprehensive” compromise, trying to unite on this fractious issue (which I think will be unsuccessful). I fear McCain will not work to turn off the jobs magnet, but at the same time will halt enforcement efforts - I fear he wants Amnesty and will do everything he can to make it happen.

In short I think Obama will make attempts to punish employers of illegals and that McCain will make no efforts to punish anyone.

Also I believe that if Obama were President the GOP will galvanize against him on this issue, fearing tens of millions of new voters. If we have a President McCain I worry that the GOP will follow him like Lemmings, while the Democrats vote self-interest, and Amnesty gains a better shot at happening. Under some other name of course.

School Use For McCain, Palin Rally Bucks Rule

By Tim Craig and Michael Alison Chandler
    Washington Post Staff Writers
    Tuesday, September 9, 2008; Page B01

Sen. John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are holding a campaign rally at Fairfax High School tomorrow morning in violation of a school system policy, prompting some teachers and community leaders to question district officials.

According to the Fairfax County policy, which addresses how the community can use school facilities, “School buildings and grounds may not be used for campaign activities during school hours.”

Superintendent Jack D. Dale said he made an exception to the policy because he thought it would be a good learning experience for students. “We are not participating in a political rally,” he said. “We are letting our kids have new educational opportunities.” He alerted the School Board about the event yesterday during a meeting at the school administration building.

I also questioned why Fairfax City Mayor planned this event at the school and submitted the exemption request, knowing such functions are a violation of school policy while school is in session. Its not like there aren’t any number of equally suitable public or private buildings that could have been reserved for this event…….

I’m more surprised that the Party even agreed to this, knowing that bringing an entourage to the school, while in session, will create a disruption.

Or, maybe Mayor Lederer just felt this was a great financial opportunity for the City. After all, it will draw a crowd and businesses will benefit. It’s not like the people will be eating in the school cafeteria or buying souvenirs in the school lobby.

Does anyone know if the Party will be paying a rental fee to the county for this even - the school budget is running at a negative $30M and the money would surely be appreciated. This was most obviously missing from the WaPo news item.

The Democrats appeal for votes based on things like making people afraid of Republicans, and appealing to the culture of victimization and free lunches. The Republicans appeal for votes based on making people afraid of Democrats, and waving the flag and appealing to people’s anger about the culture of victimization and free luches. Once elected, they each stand for themselves and personal enrichment. There is no sinmgle precept that either party holds that I haven’t seen them violate in the last 20 years. By Michael Alison Chandler and Tim Craig

    Tuesday, September 9, 2008; 1:44 PM

Fairfax County school officials said that a rally scheduled tomorrow for Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will be moved from Fairfax High School, following protests from some School Board members and parents that the event would violate school system policy.

I see both sides of that but I guess it might be best in this highly-partisan polarized world we live in not to use schools to host campaign events.

Churches … hmmm … well they have a right to do what they want with their church, it’s private property even if tax exempt. It probably diminishes their ostensible spiritual purposes to get involved.

I think ALL churches should be subject to taxes anyway, they are all PHONY institutions run by charlatans who pretend they actually CAN TALK TO GOD or at a minimum can interpret GOD’S DIRECTION.

But you know, many of these churches need all the income they can keep their hands on, to settle molestation lawsuits and so forth (byproducts of the holy crusade to spread God’s word on Earth).

    Question for McCain-

Your health plan calls for taxing employer provided
    health insurance.

Of course, that would also apply to McCain as his health insurance is provided through the Federal Government. It probably would not hurt HIM very much to pay a tax on his health insurance plan as he is one who owns seven homes and is married to a millionaress and will draw a 6 figure retirement from the Federal Government.

they dont violate the school policy, even Obama supporters get to go to this( I promise to be respectful, and not do anything bad like shout out at mccain, even if my teeth do grind)

It should be a nice event. The lipstick wearing pit bull is a nice addition to the ticket.

Lets face the facts, both Juan McAmnesty and Barrack S. Obama love this country and its citizens so much that both cannot wait to give Amnesty to 20 to 30 millions Invading, American hating, Illegal Aliens that kill more Americans every year than Terrorists have in the last 20 years! With chain immigration millions of their American hating relatives and their relatives in an never ending chain will also get Citizenship which will in time turn the USA into an Spanish speaking third world cesspool, modeled on Mexico!

Both candidates ignore our Constitution against Invasion, the Rule of Law and their Oath of Office! The invaders have loyally to other Nations, refuse to assimilate & have proven in hundreds of years in their Nations that their primary ability is to breed, produce, foster, and create an third world society of Crime, Corruption, Poverty, Cruelly and Misery. If anyone doubts that point of view just look at the Border cities they are as different as night and day. The land is the same the only thing different is the culture of the people living on the land.

Ron Paul Statement to the National Press Club
September 10th, 2008 by Don Rasmussen
    The American Majority
The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can throw the rascals out at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy.
Carroll Quigley Author of Tragedy & Hope
The coverage of the presidential election is designed to be a grand distraction. This is not new, but this year, its more so than ever.
Pretending that a true difference exists between the two major candidates is a charade of great proportion. Many who help to perpetuate this myth are frequently unaware of what they are doing and believe that significant differences actually do exist. Indeed, on small points there is the appearance of a difference. The real issues, however, are buried in a barrage of miscellaneous nonsense and endless pontifications by robotic pundits hired to perpetuate the myth of a campaign of substance.
The truth is that our two-party system offers no real choice. The real goal of the campaign is to distract people from considering the real issues.
Influential forces, the media, the government, the privileged corporations and moneyed interests see to it that both partys candidates are acceptable, regardless of the outcome, since they will still be in charge. Its been that way for a long time. George Wallace was not the first to recognize that theres not a dimes worth of difference between the two parties. There is, though, a difference between the two major candidates and the candidates on third-party tickets and those running as independents.
The two parties and their candidates have no real disagreements on foreign policy, monetary policy, privacy issues, or the welfare state. They both are willing to abuse the Rule of Law and ignore constitutional restraint on Executive Powers. Neither major party champions free markets and private-property ownership.
Those candidates who represent actual change or disagreement with the status quo are held in check by the two major parties in power, making it very difficult to compete in the pretend democratic process. This is done by making it difficult for third-party candidates to get on the ballots, enter into the debates, raise money, avoid being marginalized, or get fair or actual coverage. A rare celebrity or a wealthy individual can, to a degree, overcome these difficulties.
The system we have today allows a President to be elected by as little as 32% of the American people, with half of those merely voting for the lesser of two evils. Therefore, as little as 16% actually vote for a president. No wonder when things go wrong, anger explodes. A recent poll shows that 60% of the American people are not happy with the two major candidates this year.
This system is driven by the conviction that only a major party candidate can win. Voters become convinced that any other vote is a wasted vote. Its time for that conclusion to be challenged and to recognize that the only way not to waste ones vote is to reject the two establishment candidates and join the majority, once called silent, and allow the voices of the people to be heard.
We cannot expect withdrawal of troops from Iraq or the Middle East with either of the two major candidates. Expect continued involvement in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Georgia. Neither hints of a non-interventionist foreign policy. Do not expect to hear the rejection of the policy of supporting the American world empire. There will be no emphasis in protecting privacy and civil liberties and the constant surveillance of the American people. Do not expect any serious attempt to curtail the rapidly expanding national debt. And certainly, there will be no hint of addressing the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationship with big banks and international corporations and the politicians.
There is only one way that these issues can get the attention they deserve: the silent majority must become the vocal majority.
This message can be sent to our leaders by not participating in the Great Distractionthe quadrennial campaign and election of an American President without a choice. Just think of how much of an edge a Vice President has in this process, and he or she is picked by a single personthe partys nominee. This was never intended by the Constitution.
Since a principled non-voter sends a message, we must count them and recognize the message they are sending as well. The non-voters need to hold their own election by starting a League of Non-voters and explain their principled reasons for opting out of this charade of the presidential elective process. They just might get a bigger membership than anyone would guess.
Write-in votes should not be discouraged, but the electoral officials must be held accountable and make sure the votes are counted. But one must not be naive and believe that under todays circumstances one has a chance of accomplishing much by a write-in campaign.
The strongest message can be sent by rejecting the two-party system, which in reality is a one-party system with no possible chance for the changes to occur which are necessary to solve our economic and foreign policy problems. This can be accomplished by voting for one of the non-establishment principled candidatesBaldwin, Barr, McKinney, Nader, and possibly others. (listed alphabetically)
Yes, these individuals do have strong philosophic disagreements on various issues, but they all stand for challenging the status quothose special interest who control our federal government. And because of this, on the big issues of war, civil liberties, deficits, and the Federal Reserve they have much in common. People will waste their vote in voting for the lesser of two evils. That cant be stopped overnight, but for us to have an impact we must maximize the total votes of those rejecting the two major candidates.
For me, though, my advicefor what its worthis to vote! Reject the two candidates who demand perpetuation of the status quo and pick one of the alternatives that you have the greatest affinity to, based on the other issues.
A huge vote for those running on principle will be a lot more valuable by sending a message that weve had enough and want real change than wasting ones vote on a supposed lesser of two evils.

    I THINK I’LL RAISE THAT HERE……….”LEAGUE OF NON-VOTERS”, THAT’S WHAT WE NEED!!!

Yet another example, my friends, of unbridled Republican hypocrisy and arrogance:

    From the Washington Post:
McCain himself used the exact same phrase to describe Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s health care plan just last year. “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig,” McCain said in October of 2007, describing Clinton’s universal health care plan when she was running in the Democratic primary. He also, in February 2007, used the phrase to describe conflict over a resolution on the Iraq War. “It gets down to whether you support what is being done in this new strategy or you don’t,” McCain said at the time. “You can put lipstick on a pig, [but] it’s still a pig, in my view.”

    Lake Ridge,

Exactly when did Hillary say she was like a pit bull but with lipstick? NEVER. One of the more memorable lines from Sarah’s speech was the lip stick line. The fact the crowd laughed before Obama finished also tells maybe he was talking about her. Either the crowd he was speaking to was stupid, or they expect such talk. Either way, it does not look good.

The bottom line is that Obama claims words matter, he is ivy league educated and he stumbled through that part of his stump speech. He should not better.

I am voting against Obama/Biden because they will push us a few more steps closer to socialism. Defeating that ticket is my top priority!

The addition of Sarah Palin to the McCain ticket gives me more confidence and solidifies my support for them. She’s obviously not going to be content to just sit around and collect dust as VP. McCain knows that for sure.

Honestly, I’m a chick, and I didn’t see the Obama lipstick line as sexist. Sarah is good looking. So what? Good for her. (And Todd is a total cutie. Good for her again.) Still, I’m happy that Obama continued to open his mouth and inserted his foot not once, but twice (he did it again on late night).

That and Joe Biden asking a guy in a wheelchair to stand up. Did you see that one? Hysterically funny. Biden. What a buffoon. Some things never change. Like Joe Biden. And his patented buffoonery.
