    Election 2008: Virginia Presidential Election
    Virginia: McCain 49% Obama 47%
    Monday, September 08, 2008

Former Governor Mark Warner was the Keynote Speaker at the Democratic National Convention, but the presidential race in Virginia is still as close as it was in August. The latest Fox News/Rasmussen Reports telephone in the state shows John McCain with 49% of the vote while Barack Obama earns 47%.

That’s little changed from a month ago. The candidates have not been separated by more than three percentage points since March.

Did anyone see Obama on Bill O’Reilly give his Robinhood tax plan. When challenged by the fairness of his plan he stated that someone doing well should want to help a poor waitresses making min. wage. If he is elected he is looking at 50% tax rates for higher income brackets. Guess who will get your hard earned money. The same vermin that came into this country illegally, and now have their hands out demanding your help to establish their family in your country.

This coming from a guy who was raised upper middle class, groomed, educated, and could very well be our next President because of his skin color. Just how gullible are we? This wouldn’t bother me if Congress could manage to govern like they are supposed to, but the Dems under Pelosi can’t seem to focus.

Anybody catch Manassas Schoolboard member Tim “Dimwit” Demeria’s outragous remarks over at the Harrover blog? He is claiming that if Obama is defeated by McCain, it’s because the country is racist and won’t vote for a black man for president. When called to task by BVBL regular Citizen of Manassas, and later by Manassas GOP Vice Chairman Steve Thomas, Tim asked that they “call him” if they wished to discuss it further as he stands by his comments, but would not debate them further on the forum in which he made them. I suspect he realized just how stupid his comments were, and he was only digging a deeper hole, but he does in fact believe in what he wrote.

Is this the kind of thinking that the City of Manassas needs on its schoolboard? Ignorance at its worst? Tim Demeria believes our entire political system revolves around race. Obama’s lack of real experience or accomplishments, radical past associations and extreme liberal positions have nothing to do with whether he wins or loses. So, I guess whenever a child fails in school, it’s because of their race as well?

“Question: Why is it bad for McCain to appear in a Fairfax public school, but Biden can use GMU facilties for a private meeting? Aren’t both institutions funded by VA taxpayers?”

Fairfax has a written policy banning partisan political rallies during regular school time. GMU apparently doesn’t have such a policy. Don’t get too upset though - McCain will simply find another place to have his rally. No harm done.

  9. Turn PW Blue said on 10 Sep 2008 at 10:16 am: Flag comment

GMU is a *state* institution while Fairfax High School is a Fairfax County Public School. Thus, each is subject to different rules and procedures. FCPS has a policy on the books not permitting the use of school facilities for partisan political activities *while school is in session* (which is why Obama was able to speak at Robinson High School earlier this year when school was not in session). Initially, someone with Fairfax County Public Schools waived the restriction, but then the schools backtracked.

I do, however, love the spin from the McCain camp. The move to Van Dyck Park had nothing to do with FCPS not allowing the event. Rather, the number of tickets distributed indicated that the event was going to be too large for the school. Fairfax High seats 6500-7000 for assemblies, so it will be interesting to see what the crowd estimates are for Van Dyck.

However, it’s evolution that’s the fairy tale. There is no known mechanism that would allow for one creature to evolve into another creature. A major consideration would be that as the creature is evolving, the external features must change as well as many of the internal organs. In addition, as a creature is half evolved, reptile to bird, it can no longer do its previous functions, such as escape its predators, but it cannot yet do its new functions. At this point it will perish.
    Evolution is bogus.

Didn’t catch all of it, but I did catch Big Frank (of MPark) last night say that (paraphrase) they support no additions to current tax bills, but to keep the tax revenue at the current level, even though housing values are declining.

They went on to say that the housing values are only selling at what the market will bear; i.e. foreclosures are driving down home values and regular sellers have to compete with those prices. HELLO!!!

Isn’t keeping current levels a tax increase by another name?

What is wrong with trimming spending and give us a break?

For those of you who are only interested in illegal immigration, some guy named Chuck Baldwin is running for President, and says he’s going to secure the border.

    September 9, 2008, 2:36 pm
    Ron Paul Plans ‘Special Announcement’
Brad Haynes reports on the presidential race.

Rep. Ron Paul, the former Republican presidential candidate who excited a multitude of young voters during the primaries, announced a “major” news conference in Washington Wednesday.

With a range of third-party candidates at his side – including the Libertarian Party’s Bob Barr, independent candidate Ralph Nader, the Constitution Party’s Chuck Baldwin and the Green Party’s Cynthia McKinney – it’s unlikely that Paul will pick just one to support. But his spokesman said to expect “something of an endorsement,” with “a real effect on this fall’s election.”

Word of Wednesday’s eventset off some jockeying. The Constitution Party’s Baldwin said he has the best anti-immigration bona fides of all the aspiring presidents there. Baldwin called himself the “only secure borders presidential candidate” and highlighted the attendance of a high-profile immigration activist at the event.

You won’t EVER “secure the borders” until you deal with the magnet that attracts people to cross it — the chance to get a job making far more than you can amke in your home country. And you won’t effectively deal with the magnet until you deal with the employers (and Republican Chamber of Ccmmerce members) who would hire an illegal to lower their costs and increase their profits, even at the expense of their native born countrymen and legal immigrants! Start fining and jailing THEM (and publicize their names) and the magnet will lose much of its attraction and you can control the borders.

What Jack Slimp said on 10 Sep 2008 at 11:40 am: However, it’s evolution that’s the fairy tale.

Actually, Jack, both god and evolution are theories. we can prove neither conclusively; however, I would say (IMHO) that there is more credible evidence supporting the theory of evolution than there is evidence supporting the theory of god.

If we wish to debate the theory of god, you will have to define which one we are talking about because there have been so many defined over the past centuries (and everyone thinks theirs is “the one”).

  26. Jack Slimp said on 11 Sep 2008 at 10:31 am: Flag comment

The issue boils down to the age old question of TRUTH, as Pilate asked Christ, “What is truth?” Ben Stein’s movie, EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed, is a great expose of truth suppression, but it should have included specific examples of the scientific truths which substantiate that evolution (macro evolution) is impossible. Our public school systems and many major institutions are perpetuating a false science that is shaping society into a godless culture that fails to recognize TRUTH.

You see, if evolution is false, what are the remaining possibilities? Answer: God created. But that means He must have a purpose for this creation and that He is in control and that ultimately we are accountable to Him. Many people do not want to be accountable to God, and so evolution (whereby all is random chance) is their ticket to God-avoidance, which is the dismissal of truth.

Got this email from teamamericapac.org The jokers in congress are at it again trying to “import” more labor. Give them a call.

    Dear Friend,

You would not believe the latest stunt that Corporate America is trying to pull! We just heard that nearly 600,000 Americans lost their jobs last month, and now they are trying to flood our country with 550,000 more foreign workers.

This is not the first time they’ve tried this. Last month, they attempted to make us trade an increase in foreign worker visas to get E-Verify, and we stopped them. Now they are trying to shove even more foreign workers down our throat, and they aren’t even offering us anything in return!

Rep Zoe Lafgren is moving to push H.R. 5882. This add 550,000 more permanent green cards! According to our friends on the Hill, they might be trying to get the groundwork for the bill laid out now, so they can vote for it after the election! They just postponed it in the Judiciary Committee and we don’t know when they will reconvene, so we need to act now to nip it in the bud!

As usual they are trying to hide what this bill really does. With unemployment at a five year high, the “immigrants are doing the jobs Americans won’t” line is wearing thinner and thinner. Nonetheless, they say that it only applies to skilled workers whose jobs aren’t threatened. The truth is that they define skilled as anyone with a few years of experience in any field. This is not just Silicon Valley techs: it’s waiters, sales clerks, construction workers and people across the country. And it’s not like our high tech workers aren’t suffering too!

They also say this is just closing a bureaucratic loophole to clear up the backlog of unused visas. In reality, they are adding up every single green card that wasn’t used in the last 18 years, and saying we need to add them to the over one million legal immigrants we let in this year!

Help us stop this bill now! Call up your congressman and demand that they oppose this bill. Tell them that there is no way you will vote for them when they talk about creating jobs while importing foreigners to take our jobs.

[You can either call the capital switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or toll free at 1 (866) 220-0044 and ask for your representative, or click here to enter your zip code and get the direct line to your congressman]

If you have some extra time, you can also call these congressmen who were with us in the past, and are now cosponsoring this sellout!

    Sue Myrick (NC) (202) 225-3389
    John Carter (TX) (202) 225-3864
    Michael McCaul (TX) (202)-225-2401
    Pete Sessions (TX) (202) 225-2231
    Jim Sensennbrenner (WI) (202)225-5101
    John Shadegg (AZ) (202)-225-3361

Be sure to thank them for their past work on the issue, but ask they would welcome over 550,000 foreign workers to take our jobs when Americans are suffering. Tell them if they do not remove their names from this bill, they have no right to claim to support immigration reform.

I know it is discouraging that as soon as we swat down one of Corporate America’s schemes, they come up with another. But remember: we keep swatting them down! Each time they lose, they get more and more desperate, and if we keep it up, we will prevail.

Keep the faith, and keep up the good work,

    Your friend,
    Bay

What CitizenofManassas said on 11 Sep 2008 at 4:23 pm

I’m a humanist. We humanists try to behave as decently, as fairly, and as honorably as we can without any expectation of rewards or punishments in an afterlife.

I don’t have any objection to folks believing in the god that happened to come with their birth, their culture, their upbringing, there community, or whatever. There are lots of choices out there for really great gods… I just don’t happen to believe in any of them. I also don’t care if people agree or disagree with me and respect the beliefs of others. Religion is a bit of a wager on what happens when we die. I’m betting nothing. I find that Christians particularly are concerned that others confirm they made the correct wager (the Wisdom of Crowds comes to mind).

Personally, I think Jesus was perhaps the greatest humanist who ever lived. I often wonder why Christians continually push Moses’ Old Testament ten commandments when Jesus offers the Sermon on the Mount as the summary and epitome of his moral teachings. I would not object to the Sermon on the Mount being carved in stone and placed in every courthouse as they are rules we can all live by.

If you are comfortable with your beliefs, that should be enough. Leave the rest of us alone to our beliefs (or lack thereof).

I don’t think I am pushing my views on you anymore than you are pushing your views on me. Though, I will add if nothing else, when one believes in Jesus and has accepted him, that person is saved in not just this life, but has a ticket punched for eternal life. You may not believe in that, and that is fine, but why take the chance? What harm does it do to lead a good life and believe in something larger than all of us?

I also do not disagree that Jesus did care about man, that is why he was sent here, and to save us at the same time.

it’s true, most of the people in PWC, in fact the vast majority, dont want illegal aliens here. the 287g program and the resolution are a success in keeping them out of here.

now, the broads on the other blog will tell you different but I have conducted my own poll (the elvis poll if you will) and it proves that people in this county cannot stand illegal aliens are getting tired of them.

try this: go into a grocery store (non-latino please, that’s cheating) and ask 20 people who you do not know if they want illegal aliens living among them. if they say no, then ask them if they support the resolution. the best bet is to hit a store that you dont normally shop, just to get a better picture of the climate.

I tried this multiple times in the last few months, I would say about 90 percent of those surveyed dont want illegals living among them, about 70 percent of those supported the resolution and/or 287g. that’s a lot of talking folks, I hit many different stores, one each week for two months. No B/S here, I actually did this and it paints a telling picture.

no matter what anyone says, the citizens of this county support the resolution. no more illegals, deport them all.

    VOTING RIGHTS
ACLU trying to help felons vote
With a voter registration deadline fast approaching, the rights group launched a campaign targeting felons’ voting rights.

The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition and American Civil Liberties Union of Florida launched a voter registration campaign Monday targeting convicted felons whose rights have been restored.

”Our nation’s future is at stake,” say campaign ads featuring models with booking photos over their mouths. “Your voice shouldn’t be silenced by your past.”

Designed by a Miami ad agency, the ads will be displayed in minority communities across the state, including in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and will be splashed on buses in English and Spanish.

Last year, Gov. Charlie Crist and the Florida Legislature changed the laws to make it easier for 112,000 felons to get their rights restored.

”There are tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of people in the state whose rights have been restored and they may not know it,” Howard Simon, executive director of the Florida branch of the ACLU, said Monday.

Workers and volunteers who register voters often say prospective voters tell them they are convicted felons and cannot vote.

Some activists believe the state has done little to inform such voters they have rights to vote. ”The kinds of efforts it would take to make it effective have not really been put in place,” said Muslima Lewis, ACLU of Florida Voting Rights Project Director.

Gov. Crist recently issued an order for voter registration applications to be sent out with notices of civil rights restoration — a move activists say comes too close to the deadline for voter registration, Oct. 6.

Lewis is pushing for automatic restoration — so that rights are restored upon completion of incarceration or supervision.

”Everyone who can vote should vote,” said Benjamin Burton, executive director of Miami Coalition for the Homeless and The League of Women Voters.

The ACLU estimates that 115,000 people have had their voting rights restored but only 9,000 have registered.

”People leaving prison will be our neighbors,” said Brad Brown, vice president of the Miami Dade chapter of the NAACP. “The very first step to being integrated is that right to vote. That is the first step to being a good neighbor and forming strong communities.”
