The Left Becomes Unhinged, Again

By Greg L | 14 September 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 80 Comments

Supervisor John Stirrup is required to appoint a Gainesville District representative to a subcommittee of the county’s Strategic Planning Commission, and has chosen Robert Duecaster as his appointee.  As a result, the liberal illegal alien lobby has become utterly unhinged trying to block this appointment because Mr. Duecaster happens to have a role in Help Save Manassas and has played a significant part in drafting the Rule of Law Resolution that Supervisor Stirrup presented to the Board of Supervisors and passed unanimously.  For that apostasy to the very core of local liberal dogma, Mr. Duecaster is being painted as a racist and these radicals have decided to initiate an email campaign to the Board of Supervisors asking them to vote against his appointment.

Supervisors appoint about a half-dozen or more residents in their district to the various county commissions every month.  For the most part, these commissions evaluate various policy options and write reports to the Board of Supervisors which they can either act on or disregard. Some interesting characters get appointed to these commissions, and often you get a fairly broad spectrum of the political activists in the county on these bodies, even when they do more than write reports.  This is how you get Carlos Labiosa on the Human Rights Commission despite his well-known partisan viewpoint, and participation in events sponsored by Mexicans Without Borders.  Yet even with some decidedly partisan appointments, it’s unheard of for the appointments of one supervisor to be opposed by other supervisors, since this would open up each of their appointments to vetting by the entire membership of the Board and pretty much invite open warfare among them.

But when someone who helped author one of the very few local initiatives dealing with illegal immigration that has withstood legal review might get appointed to do policy analysis on human services delivery in the county, that’s going to entirely set off the liberals.  Mr. Duecaster has demonstrated a vanishingly rare talent for crafting local legislation that deals with a very politically sensitive topic, and heaven forbid Supervisor Stirrup actually appoint someone who demonstrably knows a writ from a wrong when dealing with local government policy to a local government commission.  He might actually suggest legally defensible policy options, rather than pie-in-the-sky liberal fantasies on how to craft the New Soviet Man.

This kicked off with an email from Elena Schlossberg-Kunkel expressing horror at this appointment to her inner circle of leftists, including Alanna Almeda1, Annabel Park2, Eric Byler3, Mukit Hossein4, Nelson Head5, Carlos Castro6 and John Gray7.

Hi Everyone,Some of you are aware of this, and some may not be. Robert Duecaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuvFhBlk3xO , the original author of the first, most aggressive anti immigrant resolution will be named by John Stirrup to be a member of the Strategic Task Force for PWC. Here is a link to the web page and their brief summary. I have also included PDF of the job description.http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=040059000700003221″The 2012 Strategic Plan development process is underway. Prince William County residents have a unique opportunity to have their voices heard in formulating one of the most important policy documents used by the Board of County Supervisors. The voices of residents help create a four-year strategic plan, which directs our County government to do a better job by:* Directing resources* Providing government accountability* Ensuring members of the organization are working toward common goals

* Allowing residents, elected leaders, and County staff to assess and adjust service delivery and budgetary decisions in response to the ever changing environment

To understand the long-term vision of residents, the Board appointed the Future Commission. The information gathered by the Future Commission for the year 2030 will set the tone for the development of the 2012 Strategic Plan. This strategic plan will be one of six plans that will incrementally move the County towards the residents’ vision for 2030.”

O.K. Folks, now it is clear why Robert Duecaster would be so dangerous serving on this committee. Superivors are aware of John’s choice now, however, we still don’t know what Corey will do. On sept. 9th the supervisors will “provide their intent to appoint”, the following tuesday, the 16th, they will confirm their appointment.

My thought was that we keep whatever strategy we decide under wraps until next tuesday, we want this to be a surprise. Alanna atteneded an HSM Meeting last week where Robert Deucaster shared with everyone that John intended to appoint him. We don’t have confirmation, John’s office has not called me back, surprise surprise( I called last week and asked if John had decided on his appointment),, but I believe we should take Deucaster for his word.

A wonderful friend and ally in the immigration debate, Mukit Hossain, has agreed to set up a conference call so we can all figure out our strategy. Evenings are probably best and time is of the essence. Would it be possible to talk Wednesday(tomorrow), around 7 p.m. How does that work for everyone?

I have attached an initial list of compiled comments by Robert D, blogging under his real name and his blogger name, Advocator (apparently his license plate says Advocator also).

Warmest Regards,

Elena

Eric Byler then forwarded this email to a bunch of folks, and the anti crowd got their PWCAA website going for an email campaign calling for the supervisors to block John Stirrup’s appointment.  The Board of Supervisors is now getting a few emails from the usual suspects, presumably from within the 17% of county residents who oppose the Rule of Law Resolution.

So what are supposedly the sins of Robert Duecaster that warrants such a huge departure for Board members to vote against this appointment?  Another of the small, insufficiently-medicated, illegal alien crowd Katherine Mecurio Gotthart lays out the case in a post not surprisingly entitled “Evil, thy name is Duecaster“.  Here are a few representative “complaints”:

These little diversions on diversity actually serve a very useful purpose. The astute student will ask himself, “If all these cultures are so great, why are all their adherents busting the doors down to get into this country?” The logical explanation is that all those cultures aren’t worth a Japanese nickel compared to the culture that’s developed in this country.

“I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” –Barry Goldwater

Holy history, Batman!  He’s quoting a person who received the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 1964!  He must secretly be a nazi party member, and we should deport him to Guantanamo!  What a bunch of morons.

No folks, this has nothing to do with Mr. Duecaster’s commentary, other than it pissing off liberals in the same manner Mark Levin does with his biting sarcasm and unassailable command of the facts.  No, Rob Duecaster is a threat to the illegal alien lobby, and since they cannot argue the facts, or policy, or anything at all remotely resembling substance, they have to try to attack the person lest his ability to craft legally defensible local policies starts taking hold elsewhere.  Smear him as a racist, which is about all these folks ever seem to be able to do, and no one will supposedly listen to him.

Hazleton tried to address the illegal alien problem in their community, and that ended up getting struck down by the courts.  Same for Farmer’s Branch, Texas, Riverside, New Jersey and the few other localities that tried to do something to protect the quality of life for their residents.  Even Herndon ended up in protracted litigation and had to do find an alternative strategy to one of their ordinances.  Not Prince William County, however.  The national illegal alien lobby came in all cocky, expecting that they could get the Rule of Law Resolution overturned by the courts as they had done virtually everywhere else, but in this case they came up against an ordinance that got vetted by Robert Duecaster.  Their lawsuit got dismissed within just a few weeks after getting filed, and we haven’t heard anything from these guys since.  They got shut down, cold.

Quoting Barry Goldwater doesn’t scare the panties off these knuckleheads.  What really scares them is that our Rule of Law Resolution could end up taking hold in other localities, not as the first untried effort of a locality to do something about the flood of illegal aliens, but as a proven, legally defensible local response to a largely intractable problem at the local level.  If localities and states can prove to the federal government that attrition through enforcement actually works, it could unblock the logjam in Congress and we could finally get effective federal enforcement of our immigration and labor laws, and we could actually solve this problem rather than listen to a bunch of whiny liberals cry about how inhumane it is for illegal aliens and unscrupulous employers to suffer the consequences of their unlawful behavior.

End Notes:
1 Alanna Almeda runs the “antibvbl” site which demands amnesty for illegal aliens and a halt to workplace enforcement actions by ICE.
2 Annabel Park is part of the “9500 Liberty” team that initially claimed she was making a documentary for the Korean-American community when asking for interviews, was previously working for the Webb campaign, and is now part of the UnitedForObama effort.
3 Eric Byler is the also part of the “9500 Liberty” effort, who has asked county employees for McCoart building security videos trying to see who Help Save Manassas members spoke with outside of Board Chambers.
4 Mukit Hossein is the Executive Director of the Virginia Muslim Political Action Committee who played a significant role in establishing a day laborer center in Herndon.
5 Nelson Head is the owner of “Dixie Bones” in Woodbridge.
6 Carlos Castro runs “Todos Market”, a pro-illegal alien organization called the “Ayuda Business Coalition” and himself an appointee to a county commission.
7 John Gray is a Democrat, turned Republican, now Independent in the Occoquan district. His current focus is to try to get the local Chamber of Commerce to protect the ability of employers to obtain the services of cheap illegal alien labor.

We have to have faith that a few bored housewives and their boy toys, desperate to help illegals, will not influence the BOCS. They are few, but as we know, they are loud. But MOST importantly, they are the MINORITY.

The MAJORITY of the citizens in PWC are happy with the implementation of the resolution, which is a direct result of Mr. Duecaster. What better person to serve in this capacity?

    We’re behind you, Rob!!!!!

NEW YORK — The American financial system was shaken to its core on Sunday. Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. faced the prospect of liquidation, and Merrill Lynch & Co. agreed to be sold to Bank of America Corp.

The U.S. government, which bailed out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a week ago and orchestrated the sale of Bear Stearns Cos. to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in March, played much tougher with Lehman. It refused to provide a financial backstop to potential buyers. Without such support, Barclays PLC and Bank of America, the two most interested buyers, walked away. Late Sunday night, Lehman said it intends to file for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

I think that we should be asking our supervisors another question. After watching the rerun of Tuesday’s meeting, I wondered why the Chief of Police stated that over 5000 traffic stops ended up with charges for driving without a drivers license yet only about 1000 illegals were arrested (for various things, not just driving without a license).

Am I to believe that 4000 citizens don’t have a drivers license? I find that hard to believe. Even given repeat offenders it doesn’t make any sense. The Chief said that arresting those without a drivers license was up to the officer and when one of the Supervisors asked if the majority were arrested, the Chief said he thought so, or words to that effect.

Am I the only one to notice this? How about it BOC Supervisors that read this blog? Only about 1000 illegals were arrested during the reporting period. If they were arrested and then let go it would have shown up in the Chief’s slides he presented.

Way to go Advocator!!!! Hope your nomination goes well and the lefties don’t cause too much trouble. Thanks again for drafting the Rule of Law resolution.

Of course, if you oppose illegal immigration, you’re obviously branded as “racist” by the lobby. In this, as in most cases, it’s the TRUE racist who levels that charge against others.

What the supporters of illegal immigration don’t seem to realize is that their use of the word “racist,” simply to attack those who support compliance with law, seriously diminished the word’s meaning and significance. It further jeopardizes their own credibility.

This isn’t “rocket science,” folks…it’s just common sense, but some just don’t get it.

This is what I hate about politics. In “real life” the radical few rarely get a second glance or consideration. They’re taken for what they are and logically ignored. I mean how many times have you stopped to discuss the rantings of some nutcase anarchist marching in DC? Not so in politics…

These people listed either have an agenda or are just out of touch. None of them are inline with the needs and wants of the residents of PWC. If their rantings derail any progress we have relized, that is a travisty.

This discussion deals with the BOCS acting, or not acting, in the best interests of the citizens and taxpayers of Prince William County. I got in on the earlier Gerhart thread late (dealing with Gerhart and his people using their positions for political purposes). Therefore, I’m reposting what I put there hoping that others will share my outrage at the goings-on in the County building. At one point in the earlier thread, Bob Wills tried to change the subject to Corey Stewart (again) but we need to focus on the real problems, part of which I describe below.

Just the Facts said on 12 Sep 2008 at 10:25 am:

Gerhart runs the County government as his own personal fiefdom, with Melissa Peacor, his sycophant “Igor” by his side. Ask County employees (in private where they speak without fear of retaliation) about the awards Gerhart chases. For one award he wanted desperately, he mobilized hundreds of County employees spending probably thousands of hours that should have been spent serving the citizens’ needs, to compile an award application. All of this effort costs taxpayers millions and serves only to massage his ego. Gerhart has no hesitation to provide information to people outside the County government when such actions advance his agenda.
Things are going on in the County building that would astound and disgust the citizens of Prince William County. The main problem is that Gerhart and crew have a solid reputation for swift and harsh retaliation against any County employee who says anything. I know many County employees and have heard the stories first–hand. There are too many of them and they are too consistent not to be believed.

Just the Facts said on 12 Sep 2008 at 10:40 am:

One clarification to Greg’s original post. Most County employees are good people who are just trying to do their jobs. They would not become involved in inappropriate political activities on the job, unless under duress from senior management. The problem is at the top - mainly Gerhart and Peacor. However, department heads such as Martino in Finance and Griffin in Planning are fully in sync with Gerhart’s agenda. Gerhart and Peacor cover up the shenanigans and retaliate against County employees who express any objections.

Just the Facts said on 15 Sep 2008 at 9:33 am:

The problem predates Corey Stewart by years. He inherited this mess that Gerhart and crew have been concocting. Focusing on Corey misses the mark completely. I know that the relationship between Bob Wills and Corey Stewart is much akin to that between Captain Ahab and Moby Dick, but the rest of us need to deal with the real problems.

Gerhart is a political prostitute. His goal is bureaucratic empire-building, and he has forged alliances with the residential developers to serve his agenda. Gerhart realizes very astutely that most of the campaign financing in Prince William County comes from these developers and their money goes to candidates whom they believe will serve their masters well. The BOCS can fire Gerhart any Tuesday with five votes. Therefore, he serves those who control the money, and thus the votes.

Notice that recently Gerhart refused to push for impact fees citing the weakness in the local development industry. Weakness in the residential construction industry is exactly what Prince William County needs at the moment because home prices will not recover until the growth of supply stops or slows. Again, Gerhart aligns himself with the developers against the best interests of citizens and taxpayers.

The week before Thanksgiving (convenient timing to minimize public attention), the BOCS will vote on the Long Range Land Use Committee’s recommendations, including the disastrous “Centers of Community” proposal. See

    http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=040073001410004480

“Centers of Community” will dramatically increase density in Prince William County and increase the number of residential units (single-family, townhouses, etc.) by millions. This policy will be a developer’s dream, but a citizens’ and taxpayers’ nightmare.

Gerhart is facilitating these schemes and has hired convenient stooges in the form of the Planning Director Steve Griffin and Long-Range Planning Chief Ray Utz. They talk in terms of “Smart Growth” but are pushing hard to get BOCS approval of “Centers of Community,” which could not be more far removed from Smart Growth.

Forget about Corey Stewart. Corey could resign tomorrow and the real problems would still be with us. Craig Gerhart and Melissa Peacor are bureaucratic empire-builders aligned with interests contrary to those of the citizens and taxpayers of Prince William County. They retaliate swiftly and harshly against County employees whom they consider not on their “team.” Both have the political acumen to forge alliances that are in their best interests, even when diametrically opposed to doing “the right thing,” to borrow one Gerhart’s own phrases.

Just the Facts is absolutely correct, right, wrong or otherwise, Gerhart has used the immigration dispute to draw attention away from and obfuscate his “empire building”. Facts is also correct in that it goes far beyond merely Gerhart and Peacor, extending into the management of the Planning Office and some complicity by members of PD Admin. Look no further than Long Range Land Use plan crafted by Ray Utz or dig into the manner in which Federal Grant funds were disperesed and reported by the PD. Ultimately everything bears Gerhart’s, or in the case of some really peculiar grant reimbursals, Peacor’s signature.

If you want a real dose of reality, call Gerhart on some of the issues, particularly if you are holding documentation in your hand, and watch him explode. Although nothing more than a manipulative bean-counter, he operates with full knowledge of the BOCS and thus they are as much to blame.

Here’s a snippet of what John Gray, who is Frank Principi’s point man on immigration issues had to say to the BOCS. No doubt this is precisely where Principi stands, because everything Gray does on this is vetted by Frank and he’s little more than Principi’s sock puppet:

John Stirrup’s nomination of Robert Duecaster to the Human Services Task Force is an affront to the vast majority of Prince William County citizens. Robert Duecaster’s nomination is an insult to human decency. Robert Duecaster has absolutely no interest whatsoever in the subject of Human Services in PWC. He was nominated to the Task Force solely to advance the myopic, close minded & racist policies of the Help Save Manassas agenda, not to serve objectively for the best interests of PWC or Human Services. Your affirmation of Robert Duecaster’s nomination would be your affirmation of the direction Corey Stewart and John Stirrup want and are taking this County, that being DOWN. The economic damage this County has suffered due to the demagoguery and vitriolic rhetoric of the Resolution itself, is staggering. Help Save Manassas, Greg Letiecq, Robert Duecaster and the “Stewart/Stirrup et al” cabal are the co-conspirators working to destroy whatever they haven’t already in PWC, for the sole purpose of advancing their own repulsive agenda’s and political careers. All of them couldn’t care less about PWC. Corey Stewart, John Stirrup and Robert Duecaster by extension have no regard whatsoever for the plight of those in need of Human Services in PWC.

I IMPLORE YOU TO SAY NO TO DUECASTER. I IMPLORE YOU TO SAY NO TO THE “STEWART & STIRRUP CABAL” AND THEIR POLICIES OF MASS DESTRUCTION! It is time for the BofCS to take a stand and say “Enough is Enough”. Please do not approve this nomination.

Looks like Principi has “no regard whatsoever” for the plight of county taxpayers who are being forced to support the illegal presence of undocumented workers with their hard-earned dollars. Gray has gone from Democrat, to Republican, to Independent, and now to the Socialist Workers Party dragging Principi right along with him.

    New to the area.
I read this with glee in my heart and a smile. Never ends, commocrats are never with out a complaint, with out a smear, without a jerk in their goose necked existance. I like the Annabel Park remarks. Korean/American, making waves about illegals rights, well, they have no rights, cause they earned none. It’s like this: you have rights in this country when you one; serve the community by good deeds, by serving in the Military, serving in public service and by paying taxes. There by you become an owner, the rest are renters and renters get evicted when they don’t complete a contract, have credit, and pay first, last and a deposit. None of these bums have this to their credit, legally that is.
Annabel Park, now, she ought to know better then to be a associated with liberals. Liberals are the lice, on the rat, that carries the black plague. There is only one defence against this plague on mankind, and it ain’t the Culligan man.
I was posted to Korea back in the days before Park Chung Hee ( Pak Chung Hi) the Korean Army Major General who had to kill and jail the liberals that were ruining ( running ) the country, and stealing all the money for them selves. The common Korean people were starving.
(By the way, General Pak was trained by the JAPANESE ARMY. He served in the Japanese army during WWII, and fought against us. However, had he is druthers he would not have, he was forced to or he would have been hanged of had it sliced off)
No jobs, a complicated civil service exam that only served the interest of the elite liberal left, then in power. E Sig Mun, or as he was often called, Sig Mun Rhee, was a nice older gent that hadn’t a clue of what the bureacrats were doing for the people, or more correctly, to the the people. Well, finally after three long minutes of savage fighting, General Pak whipped the liberals to a frazzle, soon he brought back bowing as sign of respect and the less he thought of individuals the lower the bow, I saw some scraping the floor with their noses. You mean to say I wrote all this to decry Anabel Park pissin and moanin.
The ‘three minute fight’ is all it would take to whip the liberals in this country. Lawyers, lawyers, lawyers. This is why the cost of gov’t is high. This is why gov’t is so cumbersome, so slow, so degraded, so infested with liberals. We have so many laws that squad leaders in the infantry are now allocated one lawyer per fire team, hence, two per squad! This, being done by a law passed in congress to facilitate prosecution of memebrs of the military that actually kill someone in a combat zone. The Army response. None at this time, until they clear it through the Staff Judge Advocate.
I propose we elect a ” Pak Chung Hee ” to the office of, Head of Housekeeping and Janitorial Services. Then, after a clean sweep fore and aft, we can begin living like free people again for at least twenty five years, just enough time to raise up a bunch of lawyers and start the mess over again! Perhaps if liberasl had nightmares that the war in Iraq was here, instead of there, then maybe? No, I was just dreamin!

alleycat and MOM - thanks for your responses. I disagree, however, that Gerhart is just a manipulative bean-counter. He is that; but I’ve watched him for a long time, even when most people were distracted by immigration. He is very astute politically and knows how to get what he wants, especially when people are not paying attention. He has built a subservient senior management; namely Griffin, Utz, Martino and others. They are entrenched because they dare not hesitate to carry out instructions from Gerhart and Peacor. Gerhart knows public relations and how to spin issues, and now has his own “propaganda ministry” in the form of channel 23, all paid for by us. I don’t underestimate him at all.

We are facing a catastrophe in the form of “Centers of Community.” That’s a nice-sounding euphemism being used to sell us on writing a blank check to developer interests. “Centers of Community” will mean increasing the population density, congestion and tax burdens on County residents many-fold, while development interests enrich themselves.

The housing market will recover at some point in the not-too-distant future. Developers, Gerhart, and others are fully aware of this. They are laying the groundwork now to do the same thing to us that they did before through overdevelopment. Buckle-up, however, because rather than having to get comprehensive plan amendments and rezonings piecemeal as in the past, “Centers of Community” creates an express lane.

Forget about Robert Duecaster. An appointment to a committee that will generate a report that Gerhart will ignore anyway is a trivial concern. Our immediate concern is stopping “Centers of Community” and then cleaning house of Gerhart, Peacor, Griffin, Utz, Martino and others in senior management so we can have leadership of career staff that puts the welfare of our community as their top concern.

The only solice I get out of Mr Duecaster being appointed to the Human Servcies Committee and doing policy analysis on human services delivery in the county is that most of the human service policy is mandated by Federal and State Policy and he won’t be able to change it. His hands will be tied in regarding many HS initiatives. There may be some local initiatives but most Human Services provided require that the Federal and State policies be adhered to. Unless he wants to fight with HHS and VADSS, he will not be able to make many changes in the service delivery systems.

    JTF,

I don’t underestimate him, I just don’t respect him or his methods. He can, however, be handled. It just takes hitting him on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper, just make sure you have irrefutable documentation inside the newspaper and are willing to go public with it if and when he does not accede.

That is the only upside to his being PR savy, he knows when to cut his losses and fight another day, unlike some of his minions.

MOM - the self-serving relationships between Gerhart and crew with development interests are the tip of the iceberg. You would be absolutely astounded to learn what is really going on in that building and being covered up under Gerhart. The trick is getting more County employees to come forward. I’ve spoken with many of them first-hand and have no doubt in the stories they tell - there are too many and they’re all consistent. I’m second-hand information on this, except for my own research into “Centers of Community” and other issues about which I write here. I can’t specify anything else at this point because of endangering the people with whom I’ve spoken with retaliation.

    Mom,

Wasn’t it Tom Kopko the spokesman of the task force or committee that reviewed this programs potential and supported its plan to the BOCS a number of months ago?

He even explained how the intersections of Prince William Parkway and Minniville Road would be a good example because of the local shopping on one corner and residential across the street and how this type of set up would reduce traffic because of the close proximity to pedestrians. I about choked when he gave that location as a “good example” given the number of accidents and pedestrian deaths at that intersection. Try carrying packages across an 8 + lane road to get home…..

This was not Geahart…..this was Stewart appointee I believe.

  37. Mom said on 15 Sep 2008 at 4:09 pm:

Kopko may support it but he certainly didn’t write it or orchestrate its review. That intersection is but one example of a poorly thought out location. Another good one is just north of the intersection of 29 and 66, given the development planned for the Brentwood area, years of construction on the interchange, potential closure of 29 through the Battlefield, increased traffic due to development futher south on 29 and west on Heathcote. Take that development and add the ones on Heathcote and you are left with a transportation disaster as well as the end of the Rural Crescent. You want the parties responsible, I wouldn’t look at Kopko as anything more than a tool, focus your attention of Griffin and Utz.

Won’t be long before Kathrine Gotthardt is accusing HSM of trying to waterboard her, considering she’s accusing Rob Duecaster and others at HSM of just about everything else. When was she threatened with a gun? Someone needs to tell her that just because she hears voices in her head, it doesn’t mean she has to listen to them.

Kathrine, HSM had nothing to do with Lehman filing for bankruptcy, Hurricane Ike, or the train collision in LA, so stop trying to convince us that they did…and take that silly aluminum foil hat off. Greg is not inside your head, reading your thoughts.

Just one of the bigger problems with PWC is that all problems are caused by someone else. If Stewart is Chairman of the Board and Gerhart is such a problem and incompetent they why doesn’t Stewart do his job and get rid of him? Maybe Stewart is just so incompetent that he can not do his job. If you want to be the lead dog then lead and if not get out of the way. If you notice Stewart does not have new ideas but he sure jumps on the ideas of others to make his self look good.

The BOCS have several things they do to make the citizens of PWC pay more for services then they should. I have not seen one person on the Board that cares about anything other then their own adjenda. The county staff nor the BOCS care what the laws are they apply to citizens but when it comes to them they do what they want not what the law is.

Maybe Facts does not care what the true facts are and like to be lied to as so many citizens do in PWC. It is very simple to get elected. Just lie and tell the people what they want to here and then blame eveyone else for all the problems.

It is such a great BOCS in this county when a horse or jackass can get a building built in the setback area of the zoning on that property but an injured Vet or a disableled person in a wheel chair can only have 36″ to accomidate what ever their needs night be.

“Centers of Community” creates overlay districts on the comprehensive plan. Now, when a developer wants to increase density they must first get a comprehensive plan amendment (which the BOCS has no obligation to approve) and then a rezoning. If the comprehensive plan already allows for the type of development or density the developer wants, the BOCS virtually must approve the rezoning (if one is needed) to avoid legal trouble. Thus, the requirement for the comp plan amendment is the BOCS’ only real tool to stop high density development in low density areas such as the Rural Crescent. Put an overlay district on the comp plan, such as “Centers of Community,” and the developer only needs the rezoning, which the BOCS must approve. As I wrote in a post yesterday, “Centers of Community” creates an express lane for residential developers.

Tom Kopko was on the Land Use Advisory Committee, but absent at the meeting when the proposal was approved, led by Mark Granville-Smith and his merry band of developers. Hilda Barg appointed him to the committee even though he doesn’t live in her district. On the tapes of the meetings (public information) one of the developers can be heard saying “goodbye” to the Rural Crescent when they voted approval of “Centers of Community.”

The link to where these “Centers of Community” will be located is:

    http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=040073001410004480

Approval of “Centers of Community” will transform Prince William County into an Arlington-like high density area. Worse, Prince William County does not have a solid commercial real estate tax base as does Arlington. Residential real estate does not pay for itself in terms of taxes, and services for citizens are subsidized by real estate taxes on commercial property, which generally pays more in taxes than it consumes in public services. The massive expansion of residential development that “Centers of Community” would create, in the absence of a solid commericial tax base as is the case in PWC, would cause property taxes to soar or levels of service to plummet, in order to accomodate the hundreds of thousands of new residents locating in our “Centers of Community.”

Fascinating citizens time at the board today. Kate “I’m NOT psycho” Gotthart wanted to have the county adopt ethics reforms for county employees and appointees. She apparently doesn’t realize that many senior government employees seem to violate the ethics rules that currently exist. She did admit to being a fat broad, but said Robert is a Vietnam Veteran. I guess Robert was walking around in the rice paddies when he was four years old or something. Quite a feat for him.

Alanna Almeda said HSM got designated as an extremist group by ADL. Funny, nothing in the ADL characterizes HSM that way. Nice big fat lie, fat broad.

Elena Schlossberg-Kunkel waxed poetic about the days when she would personally attack Supervisor Covington instead of personally attacking Robert. “Those were the days”, she remarked. Perhaps so, but I guess all that’s really changed is the target of her personal atacks, not that she’s actually behaving much differently.

Dexter Fox, a Manassas City resident blathered on for some time about how Unity In The Community just wants us to hold hands and sing Kum Bay Yah. Boring as usual. I think Jenkins fell asleep.

Finally, Eric Byler made a special video of Robert at citizens time. I’ll bet the editing is a real hoot, especially since he claims Robert is somehow “in love with fear”.

Seems like the whole effort fell flat. I doubt the supervisors bought this garbage, although with Frank Principi, you can never be sure.

Turnabout is fair play, but what the BOCS did tonight was NOT. Mike May and Frank Principi should have made their appointments known last week. Instead they announced them tonight and the board changed the regular process and voted on their appointments at the same meeting. Marty Nohe made the suggestions that the board should go ahead and vote on the new appointees at this meeting because most of the people mentioned were “well known”.

Principi appointed Hilda Barg, Daniel Taber & Sharon Pandak. Mike May appointed Carlos Castro and Chris Nohe (Marty Nohe’s wife-who obviously does not live in Mike May’s district)

The public will not have a chance to review their resumes nor will they have a chance for public comments or to make tapes, or gather any and all statements they have ever said, or not said. The public also will not be able to try to figure out which blog name they blog under and then go to the board meeting and read all the statements.

Mr. Duecaster, I think this group of liberal haters has used your appointment as a distraction.

The brains behind LUAC was Mark Granville Smith, not Tom Kopko.

Granville Smith is a home builder and land owner in PWC. His contributions to LUAC if implemented will triple his personal net worth.

Freedom: I’ve got a very good memory. I never forget where I came from, or who brought me to the dance. That’s why I hold the views I hold.
