McCain Announces Amnesty For Illegal Aliens

By Greg L | 16 September 2008 | National Politics | 90 Comments

In a campaign ad that came out yesterday, John McCain announced in broad terms his agenda to grant amnesty for illegal aliens. I’d though that perhaps, he might eventually understand the depth of mistrust some of us have of him, and now that he clearly tastes what it’s like to get closer to conservatives might decide to go “all in” rather than fake being a conservative by playing identity politics with an arguably compelling pick for Vice President. But alas, now that he seems a little more comfortable with his prospects for victory, McCain pulls out the ethnic identity card as well and renews his efforts to pander to ethnic minorities, thinking that broad segments of those minorities care nothing for the rule of law.

So I’m done with Juan McAmnesty, just as he’s apparently done with the Republican platform that was hammered out only a couple of weeks ago. Maybe he’ll win, but there’s not a chance that he’ll do it with my vote.

UPDATE: Here’s how the illegal alien lobby thinks about the chances of amnesty being granted to illegal aliens in a McCain administration.  From “Immigration Daily“:

McCain Kennedy Reborn

If immigration is your number one political priority, what should you do this election?

We begin with the observation that Democrats will likely consolidate and expand their control of the Senate and the House. This is good news for the immigration cause. However, in spite of controlling Congress for the past two years Democrats have done virtually nothing on immigration benefits and have continued massive spending on immigration enforcement. So, even though most political analysts are agreed that Democrats are poised for significant gains in the House and the Senate, that alone does not portend any immigration benefits in the coming years.

With that background, let us examine the difference in prospects for immigration benefits on Jan 20, 2009 if we get President Obama or if we get President McCain.

If we get President Obama, Democrats are going to be euphoric on Jan 20, 2009, and rightly so - being back in the White House, at last, after 8 long and bitter years. Democrats have not been able to pursue their priorities for 8 years and we can expect them to act aggressively on their big priorities immediately after a President Obama takes office. There are at least four Democratic priorities ahead of immigration: the Iraq war, universal health care, budget/taxes and energy policy. These are all large, complex issues and Congress will take most of a President Obama’s first term to work on these. In such a scenario, we will not see any significant immigration benefits in the foreseeable future.

If we get President McCain, we will still have a powerful Democratic majority in Congress on Jan 20, 2009. This Congress will be at loggerheads with him on all the major Democratic priorities. Democrats will want to bring the troops home whereas Mr. McCain wants them in Iraq for 100 years; Democrats see a health care crisis whereas Mr. McCain sees none; Democrats will want increased taxes whereas Mr. McCain would like to cut them; Democrats want to conserve oil and work on alternative sources of power whereas Mr. McCain would like to drill for oil all over the map. Democrats and a President McCain will be 180 degrees apart on all major Democratic priorities. In this bitter fighting hardly anything will get done legislatively, and both Democrats and Mr. McCain will be looking for opportunities to show the country that they can work on something together.

While there are a few areas of agreement between Mr. McCain and Democrats, immigration is the largest issue on which Democrats and McCain agree. While the current Republican Party platform is the most anti-immigrant one in memory, there were news reports that Mr. McCain, who has a long track record of being pro-immigration, tried to make it more immigration-friendly and failed. This is the issue on which he is most likely to stab his party’s anti-immigrationist wing in the back both in his political interests and due to his own convictions (Mr. McCain had to fight his party’s anti-immigrationists tooth and nail during the Republican primaries). We expect to see almost all of the original McCain-Kennedy bill become law during the first six months of a McCain Presidency.

The Bush era has been the worst in memory for immigration advocates. However the combination of a powerful Democratic majority in Congress with Mr. McCain as President offers the best hope for speedily obtaining desperately needed immigration benefits.

Is there anything about the US that Obama likes? Maybe that’s what he means by change, change everything to his way of thinking. Referring to ICE as terrorizing people isn’t exactly who I’d want in charge of ICE. By the way, ICE stands for Immigration and Customs ENFORCEMENT! What part of ENFORCEMENT doesn’t he get?

This latest ad is similar to an ad I heard from McCain today about stem cell research. In the ad he refers to supporting Stem Cell Research and all its potential for curing diseases and handicaps. While I personally support stem cell research I oppose human embryonic stem cell research for ethical reasons. The ad is vague in that it talks only about “stem cell research” which I know of no one who opposes, but doesn’t mention human embryonic stem cell research, which many who support will assume he is talking about.

Similarly the immigration ad is just vague enough to be supportive of immigration (which most Americans would agree), but falls short of taking a firm stance on illegal immigration. Both ads seem to try to pull in voters from both sides of the issues by being purposely vague.

If it weren’t for Palin, and for the absolute disaster Obama would be as a President, I might be with Greg on this one.

2 dead as bomb hits U.S. Embassy in Yemen

    BREAKING NEWS
    NBC News and news services
    updated 5:10 a.m. ET Sept. 17, 2008

SAN’A, Yemen - A car bomb exploded outside the U.S. Embassy in Yemen on Wednesday killing at least 2 people, officials and witnesses said.

An embassy spokesman told NBC News that the heavily-fortified compound’s main gate was hit by an explosion at 9:15 a.m. local time. The blast was followed by “several secondary explosions”, the spokesman said. Witnesses also reported hearing heavy gunfire.

Islamic fundamentalists have declared war upon our nation and our way of life. There is only one man who can lead us in this fight, and that is John McCain. Our nation and our way of life are worth defending. A vote for the opposition is a vote for surrender, and we must never, ever surrender to Islamic terrorists. Have courage, people.

Greg nailed this one. McCain really isn’t that much different from Obama. He voted against the Bush tax cuts. He’s been pro-abortion and pro-stem cell research. The whole amnesty thing. Foreign policy seems to be the only area where McCain differs significantly from Obama.

He has just changed some rhetoric during the election cycle.

Conservative media don’t attack their own. If my son, Chauncy, punches a girl, I’ll instruct him that what he did was wrong. Talk shows and conservative columnists don’t criticize their own. If you check townhall.com archives from a year ago, you’d see people criticizing McCain and vowing to never vote for him. Now that he’s “one of them”, he walks on water. They don’t realize that the things he’s saying on the campaign trail are often the opposite of what he said only a few years ago.

Promising amnesty and actualy providing amnesty are two very different things.

It’s not like this comes as any surprise - John “Maverick” McAmnesty is going to pander to the Open Border Lobby …

Question is, could he deliver .. or would he face the same battle that Bush did over this issue?

“If it weren’t for Palin” - good grief I like her too but should we really be that comfortable with her potentially being President? If you really think about it, she falls short of what we should want and expect, we have some right to someone who has at least involved themself in foreign policy to some extent.

McCain’s latest campaign ads, especially the radio ads in Spanish, combined with WHAT HE FOUGHT FOR for 2 years and every word he says, add up to a picture of a guy who will fight for Amnesty albeit not straightforwardly or honestly. He did it before, he’ll do it again. To me, if you really care about the issue, you have to say well I won’t vote for this guy, this is unacceptable to vote for the guy who fought hardest for a dishonest Amnesty that would have wreaked chaos on this nation, who fought so hard to convince Americans that they have no other options.

McCain’s sops to you guys are ludicrous. He will keep the jobs magnet running hard, attracting people here, and meanwhile will offer Amnesty which will ensure that self-deportation won’t happen, and that additional waves of people will come in hot and heavy. Meanwhile some of you think that distractions of “ICE raids” or “building a wall” can compensate. He’s crafted an entirely cynical approach that anyone rational should be able to see through.

(By contrast, I believe Obama speaks to actually attempting to minimize additional illegal immigration. I’m not going to vote for him, but of the two I hope he wins. His approach is not my preferred one, but McCain’s can only make things worse - much, much worse if he gets what he wants and has fought for).

It would be great if we could all look rationally at McCain’s position and what he’s really about and what he’s trying to do. If enough of you cared and could think straight, what with living in a battleground state we could bring this issue to the foreground once again and maybe get one of the parties to stop the pandering and the selling out of America that takes place under the guise of flag-waving. But I abandon hope. It’s clear to me that many of you are sheep who will reflexively vote GOP as soon as they start the drumbeat up. You’ll vote pro-illegal immigration, pro-nation building, pro-big government all in the name of some distraction like gay marriage (2004), flag burning (1988), arctic drilling, whether the other guy will be strong enough at staying fighting a war that our current President is working to end by 2009, etc. etc. It’s a thoroughly ridiculous spectacle.

Just another flip flop by a politician.

Isn’t that what we expect our politicians to do - to change positions when it suits them - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26749280/ - many of you may be too young to remember the Keating 5 - something that seems earily quiet during this election season.

I heard that one of the ways that Palin reduced the police budget in Wazilla was to have a rape victim purchase their own rape kit - can you believe that.

McCain doesn’t stand for anything, he’s flipped and flopped more times than his good friend John Kerry - who offered him the VP slot - ever could.

But he comes out and speaks to each issue of the day and tries to tell people what they want to hear.

Hooray for the two party system and the manipulative elitists who run the parties.

With respect to the rape kits, I heard that they only charged victims who had insuarnce. They charged the victims’ insurance companies. Victims who didn’t have insurance were not charged.

The Keating 5 and the “Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran” have yet to make an appearance. Hopefully Obama won’t stoop to that level.

I will continue to repeat this until someone hears it. The majority in the US need to hit the streets in an organized protest on Washington DC against amnesty. We can fashion it after the Million Man March or Promise Keepers, but we need to come to DC in numbers that would dwarf the meager numbers that the illegal support groups have been able to muster in their protests. I wish NumbersUSA, BVBL, and other groups would come together to begin planning for this to happen. The idea time would be the week after election day this November. Whoever wins the White House would see and understand how Americans truly feel about this issue. If nothing else, it might help buy the support of a few Congressmen preparing for re-election.

“We finally have a chance to ban abortion” More likely a chance to let individual states make it illegal. You’ll up the cost of an abortion, but not prevent many. Even if it becomes illegal, women will resort to the old tricks of falling down the stairs or falling off horses.

“McCain’s immigration views are as Reaganesque as they come” well it’s a repeat of Reagan’s disasterous 1986 Amnesty so I guess you can call it “Reaganesque”. I call it more “influenced by senile dementia”, “stubborn”, “asinine”, “out of touch with reality”. But hey, he’s the guy who’s going to make abortion illegal so i guess your vote really will count, you’re not just pi**ing it away and chasing after ridiculous ghosts giving your vote to someone who will abuse it. “By the way, I think the fence is least effective. But I’ll build the goddamned fence if they want it.” -2/07

“[C]ertainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to undergo illegal and dangerous operations.” -8/24/99, and repeated three other times during the campaign

“F*ck you! This is chickensh*t stuff.” -to fellow GOP Senator John Cornyn on the Senate floor during an argument about McCain’s amnesty bill, 5/19/07

“The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should. I’ve got Greenspan’s book.” -12/18/07

It’s interesting that no mention of the illegal alien issue has been brought up with the recent financial implosion on Wall Street. How many of these high risk loans were made to people with no identification or proof of income? How many people within that group are here illegally? This is another cost of illegal immigration that will never be tallied on the debit side of the book when the apologists make their case that illegals have a net benefit to our economy.

Just check the names on the forclosures in the area newspapers. Your question will be answered if you read between the lines. I would say the majority have Latino names. That in itself doesn’t indicate they are legal or illegal but when you see the storm doors tied open (an indication that they are looking for boarders) and then the house is foreclosed, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to assume there was renting to illegals at the minimum.

McCain is a liar and has coerced Republicans into supporting him for fear of Socialist Obama. McCain does not know anything about the Economy, where Iraq, Iran, Pakistan or Afghanistan are in relation to each other, how many houses he owns, the different between the Shiites and Sunnis or anything else the man is clueless and so for removed from the lives of normal American citizens that they may as well live in Mexico for all he knows!

What is Amazing is how anyone can be an Senator for so many years and know so little, about so much!

McCain has made an Senate career out of being an POW 40 years ago. Without accomplishing anything of note in all years as an Senator except costing American tax payers Billions in the Keating 5 scandal, and co-sponsoring Amnesty with the Socialist, Drunk and Killer Ed Kennedy for the loyal Mexicans citizens sent by Mexico to Colonize American! To add insult to injury he then thought Americans were stupid enough to believe him when he tried to deceive them by saying it was not Amnesty or he was not rewarding them for invading the US and committing numerous felonies! To show the agree that dementia has ravished McCain he even wanted to reward gang members like MS-13 with citizenship that work with & for the Mexican drug cartel and are some of the most vicious gang members in the world! McCain has shown much more loyally to Mexico and his Invading Criminals than to American and its Citizens that have obeyed the laws, paid the taxes, fought the wars and built this Nation. He constantly appears before the racist hate organization La Raza (The Race) that is dedicated to the reconquest of American Southwest, the colonization of the USA by the invading horde from Mexico and promises them anything, as he begs for their votes!

McCain would rather lose an Nation than an Hispanic vote!

McCain’s Hispanic Outreach person Juan Hernandez was a Cabinet member in Mexico’s Vicente Fox’s government and VP of the racist hate organization La Raza (The Race) & is openly for the colonization of American & Reconquest of the American Southwest!.

    Some of his comments.

“We have recognized that the Mexican population is 100 million in Mexico and 23 million who live in the United States…We are a united nation.”

Mexican immigrants “are going to keep one foot in Mexico and are not going to assimilate.”

Mexico’s primary economic policy is to send their Criminals and Uneducated peons to the US for Tax payers to support as they cost tax payers Billions sucking at the trough of public Welfare & for their free Medical & Schooling, while Killing, Robbing and Raping Americans citizens by the 10,s of thousands, for Businesses to Exploit and Profits from, and Corrupt Politicians to Pander and Cuddle for votes, while ignoring our Constitution against Invasion, the Rule of Law & their Oath of Office!

Apparently McCain agrees with his adviser about the Reconquest of the Southwest and the Colonization of American, or he would support our Constitution against Invasion, the Rule of Law, and Honor his Oath of Office, instead of rewarding the Invading horde with Amnesty!

McCain is too Stupid to be an Senator, too Stupid to be President and too Treasonous to be an American! My Friends.

Sadly, McCain is an ex-hero and now American traitor like Benedict Arnold!

Anyway, I ask not for your trust, merely that you not be deceived and manipulated by a Republican party that works against the principals most of you espouse by feeding you phony issues and phony choices. We’re currently overseeing a massive government bailout and a selling out of our country to foreign interests, under the guise of “conservatism”. I think it’s possible that a McCain Presidency with a Pelosi and Reid Congress could oversee Amnesty 2009 and a hundred million more illegals will come running across the border while McCain assures you it’s sealed.

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2007/05/mccain_cornyn_cursing_showdown.html

During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources — both Democrats and Republicans — who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room.

At a bipartisan gathering in an ornate meeting room just off the Senate floor, McCain complained that Cornyn was raising petty objections to a compromise plan being worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats and the White House. He used a curse word associated with chickens and accused Cornyn of raising the issue just to torpedo a deal.

Things got really heated when Cornyn accused McCain of being too busy campaigning for president to take part in the negotiations, which have gone on for months behind closed doors. “Wait a second here,” Cornyn said to McCain. “I’ve been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You’re out of line.”

McCain, a former Navy pilot, then used language more accustomed to sailors (not to mention the current vice president, who made news a few years back after a verbal encounter with Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont).

“[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room,” shouted McCain at Cornyn. McCain helped craft a bill in 2006 that passed the Senate but couldn’t be compromised with a House bill that was much tougher on illegal immigrants.

Perhaps some of you would be more bothered if I took a page out of Al Franken’s “Why Not Me?” in regards to this (”Gays for Gore”). I’m going to hire a bunch of day laborers to march around Coverstone tomorrow with signs and T-Shirts that read “Illegal Aliens for McCain” and “Si Si Amnesty”.

I’ll coach the illegals to say things you guys identify with, like “Sarah Palin, she ees one hot tamale” or “Obama, he is how you say no good for us. I no trust him. I trust McCain! He weel give us Amnesty, me and my brother Julio and my brother Rodrigo and my brother Hernando and my three brothers named Juan. And also my sister named Maria and my other sister Maria Junior and also both of my wives and all of my children. We all going to vote for McCain”.

“McCain, he fight hard for us, like he did before. He make it okay for me to be here and I will have same rights as all of you. then the people with the funny red buttons cannot bother me anymore, they will have to bother my brothers and sisters who will come after me. I will clear space for them in my townhouse.”

“Me and my brother Ostinato we support McCain. We going to buy several more mattresses right now so more of our family can come here for the Amnesty. McCain is our man.”

What a bunch of pin-heads (borrowed from Bill O’Reilly) you people are!
Are you kidding me???? McCain has already stated that he is running for
a four year term. Obama, on the other hand, if elected (God forbid) will
certainly be in for 8 long and miserable years, for you can be sure that
blacks will vote him back in after his first term, regardless of his pi$$ poor
performance during that first term. I’d much rather take a chance on
McCain for four years, for I believe that Palin will have a tremendous
role to play, just as Michelle (America is a mean country) will play in an
Obama White House. Well, she has admitted that she wears the pants in
the family. She also promised while on the campaign trail that her husband
will grant amnesty to illegals. With gay marriage, abortions, and all the
crap we have rubbed under our noses, I cannot comprehend how you
people can possibly vote for Obama. Any American who has an ounce of
patriotism in their veins will NOT vote for Osama….uh, I mean Obama.

NM would be a durn sight better than Lou Dobbs. If Mr. Dobbs were elected we could be back to a neolithic trade and barter, hunter/gatherer economy by the end of his first term. The man has found a schtick that appeals to folks who have no understanding of economics (there are probably enough to keep his ratings up) but even he doesn’t believe it. He just has a good market niche.

See, that’s bizarre of you to say. The current ruling class have left our borders WIDE open and have all kinds of illegal aliens working in food processing plants among other places. If there WERE a real Al Quaida presence in America, it would be all too easy for them to come in here, get a job in food packaging, and poison many. It’s just waiting to be done.

How do you think Obama makes us less safe? I don’t get it.

Seems to me you’re going to reward our ruling class with your vote instead of demanding the slightest accountability from them. Seems to me neither party is worth rewarding, and neither will lead us forward safely or effectively.

Seems to me most Americans of every persuasion are lead around like pet dogs by slogans myths and carefully cultivated image, rather than what’s real.

The logic of some here is :

John M slapped me in the face and killed my dog. Then he asked me to give him $100.

Barack O slapped me in the face and killed my cat, and peed in my goldfish bowl. Then he asked me to give him $100.

I’ve been thinking about it. John M was a little nicer to me. I’m going to give him my $100. I think after I give it to him I’ll be in a better position to keep him from killing my new pet frog.

Note how quickly both parties jump to bail out Wall Street, to spend our children and grandchildren’s money to keep this fake credit card economy churning. Note how few qualms they have at spending 700 billion, so generous that WALL STREET BOUNCES ALL THE WAY UP. No debate on how much to spend, just the illusion of any disagreement. There really is no choice in this election, no difference between the two parties, just a difference in which demographic they pitch their appeal to. “We’ll take the angry white male demographic, you can take the soccer moms and concerned idealists”.

America is broken in my opinion and America is becoming weaker economically and in general.
