Nah, It Couldn’t Be Illegal Aliens, Could It?
By Greg L | 17 September 2008 | Fairfax County, Illegal Aliens | 48 Comments
Herndon has seen the incidence of persons being cited for driving without a license rise by 700% in the last five years, and although the Fairfax Times can’t seem to find an explanation for this dramatic change, Snapped Shot does manage to point out a quote that might give a hint to what the problem is:
“The majority of these people are people who are not eligible or able to get a license in the state of Virginia, or probably any other state,” Coulter said.
I’ll bet Gerry Connolly similarly can’t manage to figure out why this is happening. Ineligible to obtain a drivers license in Virginia or anywhere else, drive without the license anyway, and are vastly more common today than they were five years ago…
In Prince William County, might this same occurrence have anything to do with why the police department couldn’t manage to tell anyone how many people they cite each year for driving without a license? While Herndon cited 756 persons in 2007, Prince William County issued over 5,200 citations for this.

Excellent point illustrating the necessity of bringing all drivers into some sort of regulatory control to ensure competence and accountability.
Maybe I am misunderstanding here, but did you just advocate for allowing illegal aliens to obtain drivers licenses?
Why not and also allow anyone at any age who has the ability to see over the steering wheel, anyone who has had their license suspended for any reason, anyone in the country illegally and anyone else who can demonstate they can chew bubble gum and walk at the same time because we all know that regulatory control takes care of all problems and ensures competence and accountability!
See my posts in the last thread. North Carolina is locking up quite a few illegals now that all 100 counties are under 287 g.
By definition, behind every “undocumented” driver lies an unlicensed car and driver. Perhaps someone at GEICO could estimate what this does to the rates of insured Fairfax drivers.
It’s time to start impounding cars of drivers with no license. Last year Tom Rust introduced HB104 which provides that any person charged with driving without having first obtained a valid driver’s license shall be placed under arrest and shall have his fingerprints and photograph taken. Additionally, the person’s vehicle is to be impounded for 30 days. We need to get this passed in this year’s legislative session.
“Excellent point illustrating the necessity of bringing all drivers into some sort of regulatory control to ensure competence and accountability.”
All drivers? It isn’t exactly unheard of to find US citizens who have lost their licenses because of a couple of DWI’s driving without a license.
So let’s say VA started to issue licenses to illegal aliens. Let’s further say that some pass and get the licenses. Do you really think that the ones who fail will stop driving assuming that they have access to a car?
The only thing that granting a drivers license to illegal aliens will do is grant them one more piece of “identification” - even if it’s based on false ID - that can be used to make it easier to function in spite of their being here illegally, including boarding planes. The ones who fail the test will simply do what they do now - drive anyway.
There was a state effort underway some years ago to require each and every individual who RENEWS his/her Virginia license to do so in person at the local DMV, but a public outcry killed it. It would’ve meant huge lines at DMV offices which would’ve required hours of your time.
So, if you want more government regulation of your day-to-day life, you had best be prepared to deal with it.
If we start taking away their licenses, who is going to buy our old “beater” cars? Wouldn’t this put Eastern Automotive out of business? I don’t think our local economy could withstand the impact. Shades of Lehman Bros., Batman!

Same assenine response to a legitimate concern, as always.
Here’s a headline this morning that demonstates what’s really going on: Son of Florida Democratic Congressman, Allen Boyd, arrested trying to smuggle five illegals across Arizona border checkpoint. Each illegal was to pay him $3,000 per head.
http://www.kvoa.com/global/Story.asp?s=9022198
All you have to do is go to the court house and sit in on traffic court. There you will see people brought before the judge for driving without a license. After you wait for a court interpreter to arrive you will hear the plea, and then the judge fines them around $40.00 and tells them to go get a driver’s license. This is repeated many times, day in and out.
Our kids pay to take drivers ed, along with a high insurance premium until they are 25. Meanwhile, people sneak across the border, jump behind the wheel, no proof of any training, no license or insurance, and then crash and bail.
But hey, there is no problem, because the rest of us have paid for the cleanup with our high insurance premiums and taxes.
And they say we show no appreciation for those who come here only to do the jobs Americans won’t do for themselves.
Speaking of jobs Americans refuse to do: 175 alleged Mexican drug cartel members arrested in a dozen states including Texas and California.

Herndon Bob nailed it: arrest the driver, impound the car. Once you have their prints, run ‘em through the Federal database and see how many have re-entered illegally. Deport ‘em and sell the car. There’s a town in Kalifornia that sets up road blocks and tows vehicles being driven by unlicensed drivers. Take away their reasons to be here and they will leave and not come back.

Racist, racist, racist. That’s what I hear from those opposed to America enforcing its immigration laws. Americans who want orderly immigration are simply racist they say. Who are behind these cries of racism though? I’m sure after hearing this for many, many years - from those behind the illegal immigration movement and those who put the marches together through our streets - there are some Americans who think those opposed to illegal aliens and illegal immigration are all connected in some sort of cabal or joint racist organizations headed up by Nazi’s and white supremacists.
Of course if this were true it would be on the front page of every Liberal paper in this country. For most of these Liberal media operations are in favor of illegal immigration and amnesty for those already here.
Before you jump the gun and start believing what you hear repeated over and over let’s take a little examination of the groups behind this slanderous language. There is an article in Human Events that sums it up pretty well and exposes the groups behind the marches and the calls of racism.
It is past time for all Americans to know what is at the root of this outrageous behavior, and the extent to which the nation is at risk because of “La Raza” — The Race.
There are many immigrant groups joined in the overall “La Raza” movement. The most prominent and mainstream organization is the National Council de La Raza — the Council of “The Race”.
To most of the mainstream media, most members of Congress, and even many of their own members, the National Council of La Raza is no more than a Hispanic Rotary Club.
But the National Council of La Raza succeeded in raking in over $15.2 million in federal grants last year alone, of which $7.9 million was in U.S. Department of Education grants for Charter Schools, and undisclosed amounts were for get-out-the-vote efforts supporting La Raza political positions.
The Council of La Raza succeeded in having itself added to congressional hearings by Republican House and Senate leaders. And an anonymous senator even gave the Council of La Raza an extra $4 million in earmarked taxpayer money, supposedly for “housing reform,” while La Raza continues to lobby the Senate for virtual open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.
That’s right, US taxpayers are behind the funding of these marches through our streets. The government has wrongly given these organizations monies based on false claims and it was then turned around and used to circumvent our laws and to influence our policy.
“Well, those statements above aren’t racist at all, maybe it’s some fraudulent behavior but it’s not racism, so what are you getting at Digger?” you might ask. Well here’s your answer.
The section on MEChA - an organizer of the marches through our streets.
Key among the secondary organizations is the radical racist group Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West.
One of America’s greatest strengths has always been taking in immigrants from cultures around the world, and assimilating them into our country as Americans. By being citizens of the U.S. we are Americans first, and only, in our national loyalties.
This is totally opposed by MEChA for the hordes of illegal immigrants pouring across our borders, to whom they say:
“Chicano is our identity; it defines who we are as people. It rejects the notion that we…should assimilate into the Anglo-American melting pot…Aztlan was the legendary homeland of the Aztecas … It became synonymous with the vast territories of the Southwest, brutally stolen from a Mexican people marginalized and betrayed by the hostile custodians of the Manifest Destiny.” (Statement on University of Oregon MEChA Website, Jan. 3, 2006)
MEChA isn’t at all shy about their goals, or their views of other races. Their founding principles are contained in these words in “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan” (The Spiritual Plan for Aztlan):
“In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. … Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. … We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.”
That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: “For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing.”
If these morally sickening MEChA quotes were coming from some fringe website, Americans could at least console themselves that it was just a small group of nuts behind it. Nearly every racial and ethnic group has some shady characters and positions in its past and some unbalanced individuals today claiming racial superiority and demanding separatism. But this is coming straight from the official MEChA sites at Georgetown University, the University of Texas, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Colorado, University of Oregon, and many other colleges and universities around the country.
Mainstream racism, in your face…
So what does this have to do with La Raza?
Members of these radical, anti-American, racist organizations are frequently smoothly polished into public respectability by the National Council of La Raza.
Former MEChA members include Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was officially endorsed by La Raza for mayor and was awarded La Raza’s Graciela Olivarez Award. Now we know why he refuses to condemn a sea of foreign flags in his city. California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante is also a former MEChA member. He delivered the keynote address at La Raza’s 2002 Annual Convention.
The National Council of La Raza and its allies in public office make no repudiation of the radical MEChA and its positions. In fact, as recently as 2003, La Raza was actively funding MEChA, according to federal tax records.
…
La Raza defenders usually respond by calling anyone making these allegations “a racist” for having called attention to La Raza’s racist links.
So, the easiest way to fool the public into thinking that you are not a full fledged racist group is to accuse the other side of being racist.
If you didn’t know before though, now you know.

Johnson,
I agree with you, but I would add that the best way to take away their reason to be here would be to institute the most severe penalties (a la using unlicensed software) for those who hire illegals. Even with all the ICE raids, businesses are getting of scott-free (for the most part).
How can we convince Republicans to deny their big-business buddies and enforce the law?
BattleCat, I asked Hudgins to introduce a resolution to implement E-Verify in county agencies to target non-qualifying benefits and services applications. The savings could easily be in the millions.

Oh yes, and she loves to let us all know that she was re-elected and therefore must be doing all the things her constituents want.
You notice how Nova scout, the fake conservative, loves to have rules except the ones that enforces immigration? He says he wants illegals to be deported, but wants to provide them licenses.
Who is siging off for the driver training having taken place. These guys need to be investigated as well. No insurance is also common and not mentioned.
Anonymous 9:03, you are correct, my comment was a smartass comment meant to show how dumb NoVa Scout’s idea is. if we are going to give licenses to illegal aliens, we should just give them to anyone. Not sure what side of this issue you are on, but I do not want anyone who is not here legally to have a license. Please explain my other assenine comments to legitimate concerns I have made. One of two reasons you made such a comment, one you are an illegal alien supporter who thinks we should just hand out licenses to anyone or two you are not smart enough to understand sarcasm when you read it. So which is it?
Former COm’s Employee’s idea seems totally irresponsible and not anywhere near ensuring that all drivers be competent, insured and accountable. Chewing bubble gum and walking at the same time may be good enough for you, but every day I see folks on the road who seem not much better qualified than that to operate a vehicle. I certainly would not favor licensing anyone who cannot drive capably or who was not readily traceable in the event of an incident. No responsible government would exclude vast categories of drivers from eligibility for licensing on any grounds other than physical incompetence, serious violations (e.g., DUIs) and lack of knowledge of the rules of the road. Driver and vehicle safety is not the place to get federal immigration policy issues solved.
I was at the PW Committee of 100 sponsored debate tonight between Keith Fimian and Gerry Connolly.
Gerry Connolly’s view on illegal immigration is:
1)It’s a Federal problem.
2)It’s a Federal problem.
3)Yes, it’s a Federal problem.
4)Did I mention it’s a Federal problem?
5)We deal with illegal behaviors like boarding houses, and some people have gone to jail.
“Driver and vehicle safety is not the place to get federal immigration policy issues solved.”
How do you feel about the policy of suspending driver’s licenses for deadbeat parents?

We need fewer smartass comments and address the situation for what it is.
I am far from being an illegal alien supporter. If I had my way, they ALL would be on busses heading for the Mexican border and anyone else who has provided them assistance.
I just watched a show last night on the nat geo channel…topic..gangs in the military. One security person showed numerous MS SUR, CRIPS, !8 grafitti in IRAQ. The whole point of the show was to illustrate the gang factions within the Army and Marines. Currently rule wise, one can be a gang member and still enter military service so long as they are not active.
All I wnat out of the drivers’ license system is a system that requires every person who drives to have been tested for competence, insured and traceable. If they have violations that go to their ability to be on the road safely, suspend the license. Period. Have no idea what drivers’ license have to do with child support.
RE Connolly: he’s running for Congress. Maybe he can get things fixed there (although I’m not voting for him). Congress is a great place (maybe the only place) to fix federal problems. They don’t have such a good track record, though.
Nova,
I wouldn’t want Connolly representing me since he is well documented as an apologist!! He will turn VA into a sanctuary state!!

NoVA,
Our irresponsible government has, for far too long seen driving as a right and not a privilege, which has gotten us into this mess. A privilege which is offered to those who want to comply with the requirements, a privilege offered to all who are here legally.
As far as federal immigration policy involvement goes, if the enemy is using the DMV as a way to provide false identification to illegal’s, which they have countless times, we should use any means available to stop this practice. It has been proven time and again illegal’s are not interested in following our law, they broke it getting here.
I am reaching here, but I would bet they would not come forward with how many wrecks, DWI’s or if they passed drivers Ed or not.
Battle Cat-
Slowly, as with Agriprocessors, the corporate world is being investigated and prosecuted. The funding for these investigations has to be appropriated and approved on an individual basis. Which means, the lack of prosecutions goes all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I didn’t see where you mention proper documentation to prove their legal presence in this country. Remember Bill Clinton’s Motor Voter!! One gains the right o vote with the driver’s license. And, frankly, I DO NOT want ANY illegal alien to have the ability the shape my county/state/country!!! Comprende??
I think that we can all agree that illegal aliens played a huge part in the sub prime mortgage crsis, which has spread to Wall Street and the world. Where does the greed stop? When will we wake up and get rid of the illegals? They are going to drag us down to their third world economy.

This really frosts my a$$. We have BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue Team) whose mission is to assist and rescue illegal aliens in peril. They risk (and lose) their lives on a daily basis to help people in danger, and these liberal nut jobs sh!t all over them and accuse them of abuse!
Perhaps BORSTAR should shut down. We don’t want any of them accused of abusing anyone, do we? How much whining would there be? All of this coming from people who leave other people to die in the desert, alone. Just the sort that I want living next door to me.
Johnson…That frosts my a$$ as well. I don’t suppose there would be any reason for these poor little ‘migrants’ to misrepresent (LIE) the truth, do you?
I wonder how many illegals the Mexican Government rescues? Oh, wait a minute… they rob and rape them, THEN deport them.
TDB, whewww, thank you, I thought I was in the twilight zone here and that I didn’t understand what I wroye myself! Anonymous 11:53, sometimes you have to make a smarta$$ comment to get a serious point across to the illegal alien apologists that post on here. Believe me, i know it is a serois issue and that was the point of my initial post.
I repeat myself: All that granting drivers licenses to illegal aliens would do is to provide those who pass the tests with yet another form of ID. The ones who fail will continue to drive. You are NOT going to make the roads any safer by granting these illegal aliens licenses to drive. Period.
As far as driving skills, I don’t care whether they are legally in this country or not. I want a systemt that works well to ensure competence on the road, insurance, and traceability. The Dems have tried to link voting rights to irrelevant things like drivers’ licenses. Nonsense. They are two entirely different things. Most of you folks on this site are far left liberals masquerading as conservative Rs. But think about it. Drivers’ licenses are a state-run system to ensure driver competence and traceability. Don’t load it up with voter rights, child support, immigration status, or membership in the local Rotary Club. Keep your minds clear folks. You let it all get cob-webby when you mix this stuff up.
Nova Scout-
You are rude and insulting.

I do have to laugh every time we get the “Sell them safety and security and they will buy just about anything” con job. The cat was let out of the bag on that gambit long ago…
Reminds me of other “protection” rackets that involved having to pay off neighborhood bullies to “ensure” your safety.
Groups like LULAC and MALDEF sell the settlement, intigration and occupation programs as civic minded safety issues.

NoVA, the whole safety thing is good but the driver’s license issue goes a lot deeper.
The feds were not successful with their national I.D. program so they developed the REAL ID program which dumps the cost on every state to create and manage a driver’s license which will act like a national I.D. While acceptance is “voluntary” they have stipulated that if your state in non compliant, don’t plan on being able to do much like flying on commercial air lines or even trying to access your social security when the time comes.

Illegal immigrants don’t come here to get drivers’ licenses, CoM.

Nova,
Of course they do not come here just to get a license. But to provide them an incentive and a privilege that greatly enhances their lives is just stupid. The only thing I agree with the illegals and their supporters is that laws against them do make them afraid to move about freely. Illegals should not in anyway feel safe or comfortable to live here.
How about we let illegals apply for dr. lic. and when their status is checked, we deport them on the spot?
Love,
I like that.
