Palin-Biden Debate Open Thread

By Greg L | 2 October 2008 | National Politics | 104 Comments

With the back-and-forth so rapidly shifting from topic to topic, it hardly seems like there’s an opportunity to get to the bottom of anything.  These things increasingly look like efforts to just try to solidify the base voters, and not say anything that will drive the few undecided or malleable voters away.

Biden’s unqualified support for homosexual “rights” is about the only departure from the expected and entirely mundane.

Gov. Palin did a very admirable job. It’s clear she’s not a polished debater and knows the intricacies of government like Biden. We saw in this debate that she was/is an “outsider” and that Biden with his 30 years in the Senate a clear Washington insider. Biden’s finger-jabbing was annoying yet he was confident and strong in his responses. I think Biden outshone her by pointing out McCain’s voting record to prove his points and Gov. Palin did not respond.

I think we also saw that Biden is a much better debater when it comes to specifics than Obama and has a much better grasp of the issues and yet we have Obama. I have no doubt Gov. Palin would be a fine Vice President and is qualified — more so than Obama — to be President. But at this debate tonight I give the win — a clear win — to Biden.

I have to agree with Dave Core above. Gov. Palin did not answer many questions and offered nothing but platitudes. If she were a man she’d be widely panned right now for lack of substance.

Of course the Hannitys and Limbaughs will say that she blew Biden away. I don’t see how any fair minded person can say that - but they certainly will. All the polls so far show that Biden won the debate hands down.

This debate will not change the race at all. There will be one day of analysis on tomorrow, then we will get on to talking about McCain vs Obama 2.

Palin from here on is probably a non-factor and will not be seen very much

Are you people kidding me? That bimbo was completely out of her element. “I’m not going to answer the questions the moderator or Mr. Biden want me to”–IT’S A FREAKING DEBATE, YOU MORON! You don’t get to choose which questions to answer or answer another one just because you weren’t force-fed a talking point on that issue pre-debate by your handlers.

The woman is utterly unqualified to be vice-president. What is this idiotic fascination you Republicans have with wanting to vote for someone that you could have a beer with, or seems just like you? Why do you use elitist as a pejorative? Goddammit, I want someone smarter than me running. I want a ticket that IS elitist. This isn’t dogcatcher we’re voting for, folks. It’s an important position that requires an intelligent person at the helm. Palin’s folksy little, “Well gosh-darnits” and appeals to soccer moms got old real fast.

She’s an idiot. Do you really want four more years of idiots in charge?

Palin demonstrated that she can parrot what her handlers instructed her to say. Her training at the McCain homestead outside Sedona was successful.

I was especially disappointed when she was asked a question and simply changed the subject if she didn’t want to answer (or didn’t know the answer).

It was clear she went into the “debate” with specific talking points and clear instructions not to stray off course. No one wanted another Palin/Couric debacle and she did the Party proud in this area.

Both were cordial; both presented the “usual” responses with nothing new and exciting. In the event it was an unimpressive expensive photo op.

Higher points went to Biden, but for most sitting on the fence prior to the “debate,” they are still remain on the fence.

After the sparkless debate, there were comments that Immigration WILL be among the “talking points” at one of the remaining two Presidential debates.

Biden came across very well. He was able to deflect attacks nicely and come across as Presidential. The crying thing at the end was a little bizarre but hey I can accept tat when your wife dies and you raise your kids alone for a while, you may get choked up when you speak about it later.

Palin is at war with Tina Fey’s imitation of her, which has quickly and concisely summarized that she is a figurehead. Palin didn’t stumble terribly at any point, and she is an intelligent debater, but :

    1. That winking thing, sexual as it is, was RIDICULOUS and I think some women will be extremely turned off by that approach to flirting with the audience

    2. She’s been indoctrinated well into John McCain’s wacky world. Is there any position which McCain has not played BOTH SIDES of? It really makes me ill, they so obviously stand for nothing. They bs and obfuscate and play games on every single issue. I’ve never seen a more vacuous campaign.

Palin probably has a future in politics, but the McCain/Palin ticket makes me ill.

in all seriousness, palin did pretty good. I was very surprised that she kept on the attack all the way through however in my opinion neither candidate is the “one” for me, there’s just too many detractors for both of them. Obama scares me, McCain annoy’s me so I’m not sure what I’ll do. I cannot in good conscience vote for either so I guess I’m writing in myself.

Palin exceeded all expectations of her (they were very low), but I do not think she hit the grand slam that was needed to sway any undecided voters.

It is easy to run a profitable company - like the state of ALaska - they earn money from every barrel of oil that leaves the state. Residents of Alaska get a stipend every year from oil sales, so it is a bit of a misnomer when she speaks to reducing state spending.

She is all for earmarks (taking advantage of them as Governer), had to hire an assistant when she was Mayor, and the Sports Arena (her only major project) was mis managed and way over budget.

Biden - he did better than expected also, had more command of the lingo - to me, seemed more knowledgeable. But his calling card is his 30 years in the Senate…….

I do not think either of them were able to sway any voter.

If I were a demoncrat - it would bother me that Biden had spoken out against Obama SO MANY times prior to becoming part of the ticket … and now, he’s in love with the guy????? Biden should have followed his gut when he said he would refuse the offer of VP to Obama. Also, one would think it would bother many of the left to hear all of the factual mistakes Biden made last night.
People are going to believe what they want to believe I guess, even when the truth smacks them in the face.

Sarah Palin does not know Washington so well as Biden…that’s for sure…but that is to her credit. It’s truly about time we have a REAL person instead of a Washington bureaucrat. In fact, if I could “flip” the GOP ticket, I would…I’m ready for a breath of fresh air…and that ain’t Biden, Oblama or McCain, no matter how ya cut it!

Barney Frank and his Democratic family are the ones responsible for the financial downfall. The Democrats, and Barney Frank in particular, were the ones threatening banks and mortgage institutions company for redlining those who could not meet financing guidelines for mortgages. They forced institutions to approve mortgages for those who did not meet financing guidelines. They even forced lenders to include Welfare payments as income to meet lending guidelines. How did the Democrats not realize, that these loans, which lenders would not have approved before their intervention, would never be able to be paid? Democratic wishful thinking - give them Welfare payments and they should be able to afford a mortgage payments! This may be only second to learning low-income housing home ownership is granted to those who are not citizens of the US. What aren’t there enough US citizens for the low-income home purchase program? I think not. But Democrats allow non-citizens in the mix when we should be taking care of own.

Listening to the mainstream media these last few days I’ve learned a few
things about the GOP’s VP nominee but also had to learn a few things on my
    own. To wit:

    1. From the media I learned Sarah Palin’s husband has a DUI conviction
from 22 years ago. On my own I learned that Ted Kennedy (hero of last week’s tribute at the
DNC) was drunk while driving a car off a bridge in Chappaquiddick. That
same crash killed a young campaign volunteer with whom he was having an
affair. Oh, and that woman was pregnant with his child.
    * Mr. Palin’s (who is not running for office) DUI came a mere 4 years
after Barack Obama (who is running for president) stopped using cocaine
and marijuana (by his own admission in his autobiography).

Shocking - it’s OK for the presidential candidate to use drugs or the
party patriarch to kill someone while driving drunk yet the husband of a
VP candidate should be demonized for something done 22 years ago.

    2. From the media I learned that Sarah Palin’s daughter is pregnant.
    * On my own I learned that Joe Biden’s (the other VP candidate) son was
paid a large amount of money as a consultant to credit card company MBNA.
That same company had business before Senator Joe Biden concerning
regulation of consumer credit practices. After the company paid a hefty
sum to Mr. Biden’s son, he voted in favor of legislation to help that
    company.
    * That same son, Hunter, is also engaged in a legal investigation and suit
for defrauding a former business partner

Shocking - it’s a crime for the republican VP candidate to have a child
who’s pregnant even though it’s irrelevant to how she performs her job.
It’s ok, however, for the democrat VP candidate while a senator to vote in
favor of a company who paid his son over a quarter of a million dollars.

    3. From the media I learned that Sarah Palin should be considered
’selfish’ for agreeing to run for VP knowing about her daughter’s
condition. Knowing th at her public role would bring extra scrutiny on the
family is selfish and she should have declined to protect her child
(actually heard this on ABC this weekend).

Strange - the same people who said Sarah is selfish for running for VP did
not seem to care about any impact on Chelsea when Bill Clinton had his
dalliance with Monica Lewinsky. That was a private, personal matter you
    see.

    4. From the media I have learned to be ‘concerned’ that Sarah Palin
probably won’t be able to manage her family and do an effective job of
being VP at the same time.

Funny - I never heard anything about Hillary’s ability to support Chelsea
while re-doing healthcare or any of the other feminist icons who say you
can balance work and family. They also never mention that Barack will
have to balance time with his children while meeting with heads of rogue
nations or how Joe Biden’s kids don’t even have a mom and will be fighting
for his time while he hosts white house coffee fundraisers and sells
    nights in the Lincoln bedroom.

    5. From the media I have learned that Sarah Palin is ‘too inexperienced’
to be a heartbeat-away from the presidency.
    * Apparently taking on corruption in your own party and running a state
that’s the same size people-wise as Delaware (hint hint: that’s where Joe
Biden is from) is not really experience.
    * However, time spent as a ‘community organizer’ and less than 180 days in
the senate where you’ve authored no significant legislation is just the
type of ‘change’ we’re looking for from the top of the ticket.

Funny - inexperience at the top of the ticket is a mantra for ‘change’ and
‘hope’ while strong practical everyday experience as the #2 is cause for
    concern.
    ;
    6. From the media I learned that Sarah Palin’s husband once got a ticket
    for fishing without a license.
    * I haven’t heard much about the fact that if he were still a practicing
attorney, the VP candidate Joe Biden would be dis-barred for plagiarism not
    once but multiple times.

It’s ok to break the rules if you’re a democrat candidate but not Ok if
you are the spouse of a republican candidate.

    7. From the media I learned that Sarah Palin doesn’t know much about
Iraq; in fact we wonder if she even knows where it is.
    * Sarah’s son volunteered into the US military and is now deployed in
Iraq. I guess that doesn’t count.

Sarah has spent more time with troops in Iraq (as commander of the Alaska
National Guard she visited Iraq last year) than Obama has even while
running for president. In fact, when Sarah went to Iraq she spent time
with the troops. When Obama went there, he skipped a base visit to
instead go work out at the Ritz Carlton.

    8. From the media I learned that Sarah Palin is a ‘lightweight’ and she
better be a ‘quick study’ to keep up with this team.

Funny, nobody is talking about how, after Barack Obama had ‘visited 57
states’ according to him he only had ‘5 more to go’ or endless other
stupid gaffes that expose who he really is.

    9. From the media I have learned that (gasp!), Sarah Palin’s husband was
once a registered member of a 3rd party that favored states’ rights (man,
    this is really bad stuff).

    * That same media has been silent to the story that when Barack Obama
announced his first senate run, he did so in the home of William Ayers.
Mr. Ayers is an un-repentant terrorist convicted for bombing the pentagon.
This same Mr. Ayers said on 9/11 that he and his group did not do enough
to harm our military and he wished he had done more. During the same time
as that comment, he was serving on a board with Barack Obama. All notes
and information about their serving together is now locked up by the
corrupt Chicago machine and reporter access to those records are being
    blocked by the Obama campaign.

If we’ve had any doubts about the bias of the media, it’s pretty clear now
where they stand. Pass this on to some of your friends who are on the
fence and who get all their information from Katie Couric, Wolf Blitzer,
Tom Brokaw and the gang. This is egregious and corrupt. The only way to
stop it is to spread information using other outlets and make these guys
    irrelevant

It appeared that every time that Biden showed his Cheshire grin, he was angry with Palin’s responses to the question. I think she did a good job and the whole thing seemed to be a waste of time as I don’t think anything that was said is going to alter anyone’s decision. I agree that she is definitely a breath of fresh air and this is just what the GOP needs. She certainly seems to have equivalent experience to Obama and like said before, Biden said he wasn’t qualified and cannot use the presidency as OJT (nor do we want him to as US Citizens). All jobs have a learning period and that is how you gain experience. It just seems that Palin has the ability to overcome obstacles with some style.

Anger management? You’re right, what right do I have to be angry? Just because the Republican administration has completely gutted the Bill of Rights, started a war based on a lie, ruined the economy, raised the deficit, and destroyed our credibility in the world, that’s no reason for me to be angry. I’ll just suck it up like the good little drone we all should be.

I did miss your “point”. I think it’s because you don’t have one–at least not a defensible one. The MSM did report on Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden’s son…everything else in your vapid rant. I don’t know what “I had to learn on my own” is supposed to mean. What, did Jeebus just float down on a cloud of glory and yak to you about Ted Kennedy’s bad driving skills and drinking problem? Where do you think you learned about that stuff–Rush Limbaugh’s drug-addled, deluding ravings? All that stuff was reported by the MSM. Of course, since you’re probably also one of those dingbats who thinks that newspapers are all biased, I’m sure you’ve never bothered to read one, unless it’s that stupid Mooney rag.

I have to laugh at all you who cry and complain about the MSM. You can’t bring up a single shred of proof of this supposed bias. Here’s a hint for you all: When the anti-abortion Republican VP pick has a slut daughter who gets knocked up, and then that same anti-abortion bimbo says things like, “She made the right CHOICE. She’s going to CHOOSE to keep the baby,” that’s newsworthy. If anything, the MSM are biased in the wrong direction. An anti-abortion dweeb running around lauding the CHOICE her daughter made–the same CHOICE she would deny the rest of us–ought to have been front page news every single day. Every goddamn day that story should have been run. They should still be running it, so we can all see the glaring hypocrisy and complete and utter moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party.

    Keep on fiddling, mothereffers.

Ah, as usual, the Rude Pundit nailed it. Here’s an excerpt with the language cleaned up so as not to offend your delicate sensibilities:

    http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2008/10/joe-biden-beats-up-woman-with-glasses.html

…The debate was more or less over when Palin declared to Biden when the Republican hadn’t given a response to a question about deregulation, “I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear.” That meant that, for Palin, it wasn’t a debate. It was a stump speech. It’s one thing for a candidate to repeat lines from campaign appearances. It’s quite another to declare you’re just not gonna engage. Noonan saw this as a positive: “As far as Mrs. Palin was concerned, Gwen Ifill was not there, and Joe Biden was not there. Sarah and the camera were there.”

It’s like going to a Chinese restaurant and demanding Argentinean food. It’s absurd. Go to the right freaking restaurant.

In fact, let’s take a couple of examples here. When she was asked what her “Achilles’ heel” was as a candidate, she didn’t even make a pass at it, only rambling through her qualifications. And she went off on a strange education-related tangent when she and Biden were talking about general middle class-related issues. She wanted to cram in what she had memorized about McCain’s education policies and, goddamnit, no one’s gonna stop her. How many times did she say, “I wanna talk about” crap?

Several times, Palin scolded Biden for daring to blame the Bush administration for their screw-ups, saying, “[T]here’s just too much finger-pointing backwards.” Yet she claimed about McCain, “He knows to learn from the mistakes and blunders we have seen in the war in Iraq.” Now, the Rude Pundit’s no genius of linguistic parsing, but, well, dammit, isn’t that the same freaking thing? And what kind of freaking idiot doesn’t think it’s important to acknowledge what causes climate changes in order to solve climate changes? “Hey, you’ve got HIV, but we’re not gonna study anything to see how the virus works, we’re just gonna inject you with a bunch of crap and hope for the best.”

You know what? Forget it. The Rude Pundit’s disgusted talking about this nothing, this nobody, this perfect amalgamation of Machiavelli and Chauncey Gardiner. She’s sound and fury, guys, sound and fury with a funny accent. If she’s the future of American politics, then we are goddamned. Biden wiped the floor with her. Facts trump bullshiat folksiness. Don’t let anyone tell you different.

Muttley, no that doesn’t contain any examples of media bias. That contains examples of people talking about media bias.

I can find plenty of people talking about bigfoot, but that doesn’t mean he exists.

My problem is that everytime someone starts nattering on about media bias, and you ask them to show you an example, they either (a) point to an opinion column or editorial, or (b) point to a story about “their” guy doing something wrong. Neither are bias. In the first case, opinions and editorials aren’t news–they’re OPINIONS, which of course will be biased. And as for the second, sometimes “your” guy is going to do bad, newsworthy things.

I’ve seen plenty of stories about both Obama’s and Palin’s inexperience in actual news articles. To claim that Obama’s is ignored while Palin’s is emphasized is to boldly lie. We’ve read about each. Now go put out your conflagrant pantaloons.

If there’s one good reason to vote for McCain in November, it’s to see if the looniest of the left, the cult of Obama, will finally make good on their promise and leave the country. They say Canada, but I’d suggest Venezuela. Chavez and Obama have much in common.

That’s the ONLY reason I’m voting for McCain. Well, that and I have to vote against socialism. I couldn’t live with myself otherwise.

We need term limits! Obama wants to bring “change,” but brings in Biden with his 36 years in the Senate. Ted Kennedy, 46 years in the Senate, and Barney Frank, with 27 years in Congress, are still inflicting damage. Frank Wolf, 27 years in Congress and selling us out with this bailout package. It will be a cold day in hell if our representatives ever voted for term limits, but these little dynasties need to end. Now THAT would be real change.

I thought Palin was awesome! I especially was thrilled to hear that she would like the powers of the Vice Presidency expanded. V.P. Cheney has governed with expanded powers for 8 years; we might as well amend the Constitution and make it legit! I can really envision the Veep taking on a great legislative role. In fact, her powers could be expanded to allow for her to actually weed bills out before they reach the other house and then the President. She should be given the power of legislative veto; in fact, I trust her judgment enough to have quasi-line-item veto powers.

I’m disappointed that she took pride in the fact that she took on oil companies as governor. I think that damn Biden forced her to contradict her reality in that in most cases she supports the oil industry. For example, she supports the drilling of the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. Polar Bears be damned, this is the right thing to do! And you know, McCain is vehemently against this, but I really think she can get him on board.

Another thing that really set me off is how the pundits are making a big deal out of the fact that she repeatedly said that Alaska is currently building a $40 billion pipeline. Although they are still 6 years away from even breaking ground, she can still claim it is being built can’t she?

One last thing…that damn Keith Olbermann and Chris Mathews need to stop piling it on Palin for being factually incorrect on her claim that tens of millions of small businesses will see a tax increase under Obama’s plan. The fact that only thousands will see an increase is making mountains out of molehills. Tens of millions and thousands; come on people, is there really a difference?

In the end I was thrilled that she chose President Bush’s debate strategy: To be as vague as possible without substance. I hope Sen. McCain follows her strategy in next week’s debate and refuses to be specific on the issues. If he does not and tries to go toe to toe with Obama, we’re sure to lose.

Over the past week, I have recieved emails from a variety of acquaitances, former and current co-workers , as well as family members who have all seen fit to include links - from a variety of sources - for this:

    http://www.thepeoplesvoice.org/cgi-bin/blogs/voices.php/2008/09/15/p28668

I don’t know much about the author, Tim Wise, exept that he has written a few books and runs around the country giving speeches - collecting hefty fees for this service. His college campus gigs are numerous.

In short, he is a professional guilt monger who makes a nice living off the Race Industry.

Is this his contribution to the Obama campaign … Get Out The Vote - Via fear, shame and self-loathing?

I think it’s fairly safe to guess that those who sent me the linked emails are fishing for info regarding my voting plans … at least half have requested that I forward the “Sara Palin and White Privilege” message far and wide…. man alive, if this is the sort of race baiting tripe that the dems feel they have to resort to, we are all in bad shape …and these clowns will lose Obama the election.

I am tempted to respond to them all:

If I had a choice, I’d take Michael Steele and Bobby Jindil over Obama or McCain… and, as someone on a comment board recently asked; Does this Tim Wise think that if the Palins were Black the repubs would not be enthusiastc about them?

If some Black guy attempted to make a living teaching people of pigment to hate themseves, we would call his efforts psychotic.

Tim Wise can actually make a living teaching Whites to hate themselves and he gets louded as “among the most prominent anti-racism writters and activists in the U.S. ” Now that’s White Privilege.

“Does this Tim Wise think that if the Palins were Black the repubs would not be enthusiastc about them?”

Personally I doubt that many Republicans would be that into Sarah Palin were she black. And if she were black AND with a pregnant teenaged daughter who used drugs, definitely not. I just personally don’t think she would quite have that “grab” with “Joe Six Pack”. And had made mistakes like hangiing out with groups who wanted to secede from the US. I don’t think empathy would take hold.

I remember when Colin Powell pretended he might run, many Republicans almost started beating him on the head with a stick to prevent it.

A harder question - if she was an unattractive woman, would she be popular with Republicans?

BTW I thought she gave a vacuous performance in that debate. Time and again she veered away from a direct question to give a pre-planned attack speech. Biden stuck to topic and she didn’t. I would not at all be comfortable with her as President. Though I’d prefer her to McCain.

“sad” story in washington post today about illegal aliens being held too long, sob story about an illegal being put on an ankle bracelet and not being able to feed her anchor babies, etc…

bottom line is I dont give a flat damn about them, she wouldnt have to worry about feeding her kid if she were not here in the first place. They put themselves in the position they are in and they expect everyone else to feel sorry for them when they are held accountable.

I think they should have a constantly rotating bus between prince william and the border, when they are caught they immediately are placed on this bus and shipped back (after being micro-chippped, finger printed, mugshots, etc)

I would make the experience so traumatic for them they’ll think twice (maybe even three times) about coming back.

people who are stupid enough to break the law blatantly and expect sympathy after the fact deserve nothing. I would also advocate caning too, works well for singapore. 50 smacks with the cane would do wonders. for frequent offenders their is always guantanamo bay, ship their a$$es to cuba, that way we dont have to listen to their whining in the washington post.

I guess the assertion “he didn’t notice the pastor of his church was going crazy” has less bite to it.

What to do when your Pastor is nuts? How would you know? Is it really fair to sit and judge the man who supposedly interprets the words of a mysterious God to you? Is it fair to judge what is supposedly God’s word?

If God tells you to kill your first-born son, should you? And if someone does, and said God told them to, why would you not believe them? Do you believe Abraham (of the Old Testament) talked to God? If so, why would this not happen again? If not, are you picking and choosing what parts of the Bible to take literally?

Matters of religion are tricky. Religion itself is mass psychosis. Maybe that explains why swing voters don’t get as disturbed as you about the Wright issue.

    The real Deal -

Hello all, I have not been around here for that long but I’m going to give you the Story of E “Elvis”, no humor in here and this is definitely fit to be a sticky:

In 2006 I moved to PWC. I started a small business, consisting of myself and My wife. My trade is as a private investigator and my wife was part of this as well (although another profession entirely). We had two small children, one 10 year old and one 18month old. I mention had because prior to us moving to PWC they were both killed in a car accident that was fully caused by an illegal alien (this happened out of state) this illegal alien served all of 3 weeks in jail before someone bailed him out and he fled, never to be seen. While leaving us with two dead children and a stack of legal and medical bills.

My wife was also seriously injured in this wreck, along with myself. We both healed nicely, or so we thought. In 2007 my wife passed away from a blood clot brought about by the accident, while working at the office she collapsed on the floor and could not be revived.

So now you know why I cannot stand illegal aliens. Back in the day I couldnt have cared less, now I’m an advocate against them. Regardless of how many say they are “just here to work” there are thousands more who are criminals. It sickens me to the very core when I see newspaper articles and even blogs that advocate the plight of the illegal. Because I know what the costs actually are:

    1. lost children
    2. a lost spouse
    3. several thousands of dollars in medical bills
    4. bankruptcy
    5. alcoholism
    6. permanent disability

that’s just the tip of the iceberg folks, a very small tip. So while I chase retards around town that are cheating on their wives, I attempt to now avoid those areas were illegals congregate. I eventually stopped calling the ICE hotlines, they dont care. When the weather gets bad my knee kills me and I have to take pain killers or drink a 5th to make it better and I walk with a cane now (at 40 years old)

I’m just one casualty and now you know why.

NO - say it ain’t so, Elvis!
I read your story with great sorrow. I don’t even know what to say, except that you are one brave man. Thank you for sharing. What a tragedy - beyond words.

I am still not able to send email, though I’ve been receiving them just fine. I’ll be contacting comcast in the AM, and will hopefully be able to get it squared away. I look forward to getting in touch.

    Wish you weren’t moving!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Elvis,

I am really very stunned to read your story, and very sad for you, especially knowing how the apologists would make all kinds of excuses for the perpetrator of your personal tragedy, and not allow you to generalize in any way about a population of criminal illegal aliens. There but for the grace of God go the apologists, I guess, since they have not apparently ever been touched by this kind of tragedy that could have been prevented if only our laws were enforced. Thank you for sharing your story, which most definitely strengthens my resolve against these fools and the media and public officials who collude with them. You are a brave soul.

The antis are having another “economic party” at what I know to be a really crappy restaurant in Haymarket on Thursday. I’m going to try to make it this time, although the food is nasty there. I think it will be very interesting.

    Elvis,

You honor us by so generously sharing your sad story. There is a profound beauty and strength in the honest confrontation of loss and grief.

I join those who want to thank you.

My heart aches for your loss and pain. Having loved and lost, I know that there are days when grief will bend you to your knees … and you will live one of life’s heavy lessons; grieving is the best and only cure for grief.

Persevere - you will make it.

Be good to yourself - you have a life to live, so much to offer and look forward to.

Your loved ones would want you to.

thank you all for your kind words, it is very much appreciated. I recently had to move so I’ve been a bit out of the loop.

like i mentioned before, I was a fence-sitter. I didnt care about illegal aliens since for the most part they didnt affect me. However they did eventually affect me and my eyes were opened.

It’s more than “just allowing people to work”. For every illegal alien that is passive and just wants to collect a paycheck, you have 10 more that just want to take your paycheck from you. It’s despicable and horrible. The economic and personal tragedies that come from these people being here cannot be measured. Now I hear they are actually being recruited to Vote! Is there anything more sickening?

Ive done my best to report those boarding houses and other illegals that I suspect and I’ll tell you, the authorities really just dont care unless they are making a big bust. If it is not something that makes the news they dont want to deal with it.

However, average citizen can make a difference by speaking out and making their thoughts known. I have seen this happen and that’s why the resolution is in place. Regardless of what it does and does not do, the resolution and the associated BOCS meetings PROVED that the average citizen does have a say. It also PROVED that the majority of citizens in this county WANT ILLEGAL ALIENS GONE. It could not have been spoken more clear. It’s making them uncomfortable and scared, which is what really needs to happen. I want every illegal alien in this county terrified to leave their houses!

Regardless of what the apologists say or do they are spitting into the wind. They will never get a majority of people to agree with them because it simply is not possible. The majority of people respect and follow the law thus supporting those who do not just will not happen.

I would urge folks to continue to speak out and make your voices heard. I’m sure epithets like “racist” and “nationalist” will make themselves known by the “witches of BeastWick” over on the other blog of course.

Wasn’t it some 30 years ago this country had its first female Vice Presidential candidate by the name of Geraldine Ferraro? Why does the base of this party celebrate an idea so many years behind the other party? Not a new fresh idea, just a different affiliation.
