BTW his name ain't really Joe (it's legally Samuel)

He works as a Plumber, granted though not liscenced

He doesn't own any business yet

And in fact has a lein against him for unpaid taxes

I'm not saying he's a bad guy, but is he really McCain's new poster boy? What happened to "Joe Six Pack"?

Thank God there's not another debate (much less the 10 McCain supposedly wanted) where I would have to listen to an arguement about who wanted to help "Joe the Plumber" the most.

Maybe McCain and Obama can agree to bail Joe out or all plumbers who owe taxes.

BTW I just saw "W". I think it was pretty good.

That's the Bush I see when I look at him, Scared, panicky, out-of-his-depth. What motivated him to run in the first place? Heck, in the first 2004 Presidential debate he whined about how hard a job it was and seemingly was about to quit on stage.

Probably what the movie posits. Partially because of his strange relationship with his father, who preferred his brother to him. And partially a wacked-out belief that God wanted him to.

Why we collectively elected and reelected him is another story. My theory on that remains that we are in such a point of decadence that we no longer care about what's true, and choose the fairy tale over the rational solution all too often, a luxury our ancestors didn't have. Can you imagine any other President starting a war under phony pretence and then getting re-elected?

I don't like the way Stone manipulates history at times, and in this movie he makes Colin Powell more of a leader and less a follower than we know him to have been. But Bush as a reckless dude, Cheney as the guy feeding him ideas, Rice as an ineffectual suckup, Rumsfeld as an irresponsible glib character, that's all pretty much spot on the mark I think.

B+ movie, well worth seeing.

I'm not going to vote for either major candidate. Doesn't mean I don't have opinions about them.

concrete4 you may not believe in progressive taxation, but I do. The best form of government is the cross between Capitalism and Socialism that America has been for the past 70 years. (By classical definition, we are a cross of both). When we lean too far in one direction (2001-2008) or the other (1977-1980) we veer off course from what we can optimally be. The correction can produce great times - Clinton's Presidency I think is a fine example. (Again, I recommend Woodward's "The Agenda" for a description of Clinton's first year and his commitment to a balanced budget).

I don't believe in trickle-down economics as an absolute good, it leads to hoarding and wage stagnation. At the same time it's important that initiative be rewarded and that laziness and irresponsibility not be rewarded with a government check.

Given that I'm not a rabid idealogue I have trouble relating to either of our major parties but that's okay with me because they're really both just sham organizations that manipulate people to their own enrichment. When the hanging chad is in the balance any concept of principle or philosophy is sacrificed for a grab at power. The system sometimes works when balance is acheived but right now there is too much corruption in the major parties to attack much of what's wrong with us (illegal immigration, wage stagnation, borrowing at the cost of foreign investment, a disconnect between our foreign policy as it exists and as our citizens understand it).

That's what I think but if someone else wants to shout "Up With Joe the Plumber" or "Kill Him" or "Bush Is A Murderer" they are free to simplify and continue down the yellow brick road to nowhere.

Amen, Mighty Putty!
And the message about the Joe the Plumber incident is being lost in the left leaning media! The point is, out of Nobama's mouth came the words "share the wealth" = socialism. That is the message - screw the rest of it. That is the message that needs to be hammered!!!!

"And this “Joe the Plumber” stuff is such abject bs. Joe the Plumber doesn’t have 250 grand and isn’t even a liscenced (sp)plumber."

Rick, Joe doesn't have to have a license since he works for a licensed plumber in Ohio, doing residential work. He can get his license when he takes over the business. I am glad you are showing your true colors. After months of writing that everyone should not vote for either candidate, you are coming out of the closet for Barry O. I guess this is not the first time out of the closet for you, but I am glad you are finally being honest.

It's amazing how Palin and Joe the plumber get beat up and get a proctological exam from the media, but Biden gets away with making idiotic statements every day (jobs is not a three letter word, and FDR was not president when the great depression started). Also, Barry O. has not even produced a valid birth certificate yet. He lies about his relationship with terrorists, makes, statements that could easily be checked by a curious media, yet avoids any real scrutiny.

Rick, I always like to leave you with good advice or a nice throught. Forgive your daddy, and remember that Jesus still loves you.
