Why Prohibit ID At The Polls?

With all the news about how ACORN has been engaging in massive voter fraud and is being investigated in several states for registering the dead, children, illegal aliens, and Disney cartoon characters to vote, this part of the Democratic National Platform is worth noting. If leftist voter fraud mills manage to fraudulently register all these folks, it would make their cause a lot easier to succeed if election workers were prohibited from requesting identification from anyone showing up at the polls.

Good reason to have a “National ID” like so many other countries have. Chicago has many years of experience with registering the dead.
The DNC and people like ACORN are making a mockery out of voting … I think it’s important that soke people go to jail for good long stretches out of this.

Let’s make Motor Voter work for us. Provide proof of citizenship to the DMV and have your license marked accordingly. REAL I.D. is a good thing. The only people who fear it are illegal aliens and criminals, people who fear being identified.
Why is it a burden to provide ID? If they can’t get out to get their ID, then how can they get out to vote? If they can’t afford the fee for the ID, then they get it for free. And, if they can’t get to the DMV, then we’ll come to them. The bottom line is EVERYONE should be required to provide ID. It seems to me that I’ve had to show ID every time I’ve voted. Doesn’t bother me one bit. I kind of like it. Just the same as going into a bank and I’m asked for ID. I appreciate being asked. It protects me and the bank.

The demoncrats (I was registered as a democrat when I lived in another state and have only once voted for a democrat presidential candidate in 48 years) are the ones fighting Real ID. The recent ACORN fiasco shows why they do not want REAL ID. The majority of black democrats in the house are against it as they say REAL ID will prevent blacks from casting a ballot. How absurd!
I would expect that there will be a significant amount of attempted fraud at the polls this year.
First bit of evidence is the report that Virginia now has 5 million voters registered. since we have a total population in the state of just over 7 million, we must accept the fact that only about 2 million of our citizens are not registered . This includes all of the children under 17 and all of the aliens who are not eligible to vote, as well as the large number of military and foreign residents who are registered elsewhere or not registered at all.
Bill, you can believe what you want — if you read this site without getting sick to your stomach, you are pretty gulliable. Sorry, but, as of July 2007, Virginia’s population was just over 7.7 million. Of that 7.7 million, about 5.8 million are of voting age. Hence, the figure of 5 million registered voters is reasonable. You should also note that it is just possible that the Census Bureau is not counting everybody and that not everybody who has left the State or died has been purged from the voting rolls. But, don’t worry about these vacts, carry on with your fantasy life.
Real ID is a bad idea for one major true conservative voting block - gun owners. I as a gun owner do NOT want my identification tied to my owning of pistols, shotguns or high powered rifles. Real ID would give the state the power to die in all those seperate databases and be able to pin point which citizens are legally armed and which are not. As a gun owner I am completely against Real ID.
As for voting and showing ID. I am also against any requirement that states that I *must* present my ID when voting. Last year I had the same issue - a voting officer asked me to present my ID and I refused. Instead I asked to be able to ‘affirm my identity’ which is my legal right. She was confused and started speaking slowly to me (very offensive). I repeated my request. The precinct captain asked if he could assist and I repeated my request. He smiled and said, “Sure! No problem.” He gave me the small document I had to sign to legally state that I am who I claim to be and I was able to vote.
Any requirement to ’show your papers’ to vote is a state tactic to intimidate or disenfranchise voters. Requiring a license or identification is just a hidden poll tax. Now, I have no issue with someone going to the State Board of Elections office and getting that little voter ID card and presenting that (it’s free) but given the choice between using a photo ID and practicing civil disobedience by not producing one - I aim to misbehave.
We should not ever, ever give that much power to the State. Much like social programs - have you ever seen an entitlement program shrink or disappear? Same with powers given to the government.
Then Anchor Baby, would you suggest that anyone, regardless of citizenship, be allowed to vote? …oh, and a person with no ID should be allowed to vote how many times and in how many precincts, Anchor Baby?

You couldn’t ask nicely for the affirmation form? You couldn’t “decline” to show I.D., instead of refusing? Do you antagonize the police and poll workers for fun, or attention? Isn’t it just easier (and more mature) to be polite and produce I.D.? Or are you, as an elitist, above dealing with people who are protecting you and your rights? Liberals would rather be nasty and confrontational, right? Who did you impress by bullying a poll worker, a volunteer who gives their time and patience to assist voters? You need to reel it in and act like an adult. The people that you revel in chastising about your rights more often than not know more about them than you do. Ever wonder why you don’t have positive experiences with others? Grow up.

I’m with you, CONVA, but like most issues designed to protect the rights of American citizens, it’s sure difficult to get the Dems to support that.

Freedom, I never said anything about persons of other nationalities being able to vote. The form I signed declared that under penalty of perjury I was declaring I was who I said I was. So, in reality I was putting my rights on the line where anyone with an ID could just ‘claim they made a mistake’ (if they voted more than once, voted under a few names, etc.)
I understand that in a free society (until either McCains lefty policies or Obama’s socialist policies take hold..) it’s hard to give people rights and then let them excercise them when they want - but thats the spirit of this nation. Which means that sometimes bad things can happen. We accept that as a nation for the ability to have the freedoms we all love. Will that mean a socialist might get elected because ACORN is able to generate thousands of fake voters and have them vote? Yup. But, I’d rather than have that then a marxist society where we all call each other comrade or Unity-25790 and must show cause and permission to do anything in our lives.

Liberals want plenty of wiggle room when passing legislation. Why have a voter registration card if we’re not required to show it? Voter regulations exist to prevent fraud, not aid it. What percentage of fraud will we have this year due to ACORN and illegal aliens voting illegally? The liberals are trying to steal the election in retaliation for the last one. We need to start lobbying for positive, verifiable I.D. at the polls. Every responsible registered voter can produce a valid I.D.
Lighten up, AB. You are still bullying. I’ve read your posts, especially the ones where the authorities are bested by your wit and knowledge. Answering a question posed by a police officer or a poll worker does not require a sarcastic or disrespectful response. You’re using liberal tactics to defend a conservative stance.

I think the real threat to non-citizen voter fraud in this election, is that there WILL BE NO CHECK OF CITIZENSHIP on the voter registry rosters or at the polls.
No one will review the existing registry list for proof of citizenship, no one will take non-citizens off of the currently fraudulant voter registries, no one will ask anyone for proof of citizenship at the polls, only for proof of identity using one of several IDs that are easily obtained and in everyday use by non-citizens.
When you register to vote, no proof of citizenship is required, only proof of residency and proof of ID.
THIS will get you angry….
My green card carrying, valid driver’s license carrying non-citizen wife can register to vote if she wishes, and no one will ask her for proof of citizenship when she registers, and no-one will ask for proof of citizenship when she votes…
If you think there will not be massive voter fraud in this election you are naive (I estimate 1 million fraudulent non-citizen voters will vote in this state during this election), simply because they can and no one will check them for citizenship.
The only document that proves citizenship is a passport and valid (non-counterfeit) social security card.
The passport is the only fraud “free” document that is the most difficult to duplicate, but even it has people who can create passports using new pictures from stolen ones from the embassy (using inside illegal immigrant activists).
Voter fraud to change the outcome of elections in favor of (gender, racial, ethnic and religious group special interest leadership) is far more prevalent than anyone has the political will to PROVE.
This is a blatent failure of the state election board to ensure only citizens are on the roster.
no one asked me for any ID , I moved 5 times in the past 4 years, I could have gone and voted anywhere just knowing the adress and any name of any person living at that adress would have sufficed
