This message might just work. Guns scare liberals absolutely witless.
Of course this depends on them being familiar with the Bill of Rights, rather than Das Kapital and Mao’s Little Red Book. Maybe this sign needs a picture of an ugly black gun, just in case.

At least we know this person can leave the sign up for a year, before the City will try to make him or her take it down.
Umm, someone needs to tell this guy that the First Amendment applies to the government, not private individuals.
good one!
I love your if you are offended page. Well done.
OUTSTANDING!
I LOVE THIS GUY’S SIGN!
Hope it’s located in Old Town Manassas!
Doug,
I suggest you go back to school and actually STUDY the constitution. You are full of crap!
Conrad, it’s sarcasm. I hope.
“Palin-McCain”
That’s how I’m voting, too.
Conrad,
Might I suggest you actually read the First Amendment:
Now, if you could please tell me where in that language there is anything applying to private individuals or private entities, I’d love to hear it.
I think Doug is correct. Read the text:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The First Amendment addresses Congress and governmental suppression of the press and free speech and assembly. So the sign owner’s First Amendment rights would have only been violated had the sign been removed by some sort of agent of government. It’s very broadly defined. However we may use it colloquially, the constitutional law is as Doug suggested. This doesn’t mean that the people who took the sign didn’t break other laws (theft, vandalism, trespass, etc.) or that they aren’t bad citizens since they violate the spirit of what the Amendment protects.
Anon,
Considering that “vandalizing” campaign signs is a game that both sides of the aisle have played for years, perhaps is a form of political speech.
Then again, I’m one of those people who looks forward to the end of the election season because it also means that the weeds that some call campaign signage will come down soon.
Doug, private individuals like the ones who stole the sign, definitely not. Private entities can be a grayer area if they receive government financial support. But it’s contested.
However Conrad is totally wrong.
Aside from that minor technicality, the sign is amusing.
I’d like the local cops would lose their bowel control over this. They’ll call it a “threat” or something.
I’d like to think that the local cops, etc. etc. (need coffee)
I think he should builld a fence around it, host campouts and rallies around it, and build some supporting structures and put a few port-a-johns around it.
As an off topic note: Brian do you have any idea when FIOS will be available throughout MP? It is available in pockets around me but not in my neighborhood. I thought they were under contract by MP to have it city-wide by the end of the year. Verizon won’t tell me anything and I thought you might know since you have your ear close to the ground with the workings of the city. Thanks.
Is this sign really in Manassas?
The sign needs to be translated into spanish, and liberal. The fact that liberals fear firearms proves that they are insane. Part if insanity is the fear of inanimate objects.
Wow. The freedom of speech (and posting signage is considered speech) is guaranteed under the constitution.
The first amendment was to protect the EXISTING RIGHT from government erosion of that right.
It does not LIMIT the freedom of speech to freedom from government from speaking yor mind.
If someone trespasses on your property, steels or destroys your signs (which are your speech) they are indeed infringing on yor EXISTING right to free speech.
Since I am not a government agent - does that somehow grant me, a private citizen, free rein carte blanche to infringe on another private citizens right to free speech?
especially if they are pointed at you.
Perhaps a “Sign Party”? Everybody bring a chair, a beverage and the campaign sign of your choice. No porta potty, we’ll just use the empty pool.
After all, isn’t that our “culture”?
“Brian do you have any idea when FIOS will be available throughout MP? It is available in pockets around me but not in my neighborhood. I thought they were under contract by MP to have it city-wide by the end of the year.”
I haven’t heard anything. The last FIOS installation activity I saw was on Manassas Drive between 28 and Euclid. They haven’t done anything in Bloom’s or Belmont.
I don’t recall if they did have a deadline by which it was supposed to be available city-wide.
Yes, along with flagrant disregard for the law and the feelings of our neighbors, Johnson.
Eyesore is an eysore. Glad I don’t live near the guy.
But that was funny about the City letting him leave it up!
In Arlington, a McCain-Palin yard sign is treated as hate speech.

GET DIRECTV!
Anonymous @ 18 Oct 2008 at 12:29 pm: Flag comment
DTV is probably a hell of a lot cheaper than Fios.
I hope they try it and he follows through. It only takes putting a few in their final box before the rest get the message.
This whole thing actually worries me. While campaign rhetoric often gets, er, heated, to say the least, none of us should really want any violence to be committed (particularly the lethal kind). Unfortunately, I get the nasty feeling that these leftist radicals will try to goad a gun-owning citizen into defending his or her property/physical safety. Then we will all watch the media circus that follows. Frankly, I really hope it doesn’t come to all that.
This should be sent to Drudge or Redstate. I love it!
The YouTube video is a perfect example of the racist rednecks in this country who are so hung up the so-called “moral” issues (gun control) that they are too blind to see that Obama’s policies would most benefit them. These are the people of whom the politics of fear best plays into the hands of and ya gotta hand it to the Republicans, they know this is who to go after.
We spent 12 years living and working among these people in NE Pennsylvania and could no longer handle raising our kids around people who have absolutely no tolerance for anyone that they perceived as “different”.
Yeah, what with them all bein’ so busy clingin’ to their guns and religion and anti-immigrant sentiment. What a bunch of elitist bs, Lake Ridge, typical of Professor Obama and his disciples.
“too blind to see that Obama’s policies would most benefit them.”
OK, you’re kidding, right? PLEASE tell me you’re kidding!
I’d probably vote Palin-McCain, but since my ballot will be printed McCain-Palin, I’m going to have to go 3rd party.
Lake Ridge-
Typical liberal elitist response. Anyone who doesn’t toe the socialist line and disagrees with you is a stupid racist. Move back to Berkley and vandalize the recruiting office.

- Well, clearly, you have some nonnegotiable limits to what you will tolerate. Fancy that. You made a judgement call. Welcome to the human race… filled with a multitude of mores and those who draw lines in the sand deliniating what is socially permitted and what is deviance.
Clearly it is you who has no tolerance for anyone you percive as “different”… so much so that you moved away ….. thanks for the confirmation:
Tolerance Dogma is, at it’s core, intolerant. And it’s disciples blame and castigate others for what they themselves practice. The “Tolerant, Nonjudgemental, Love-The-One-You’re-With Progressives” are not tolerant of anything but their own liberal world view.
Who, pray tell, is the one so hung-up on their own so-called “moral’ issues (Tolerance)?
How odd when people demand of others Tolerance - meaning that they agree with THEM ONLY in Orwelian doublespeak - while applying absolutes of right and wrong of their own towards people who have differing views.
Tolerance is code for permitting, ignoring and enduring deviance.

Well said, Bridget.
On the orthodoxy of “tolerance”:
- George Orwell, 1984, Book 1, Chapter 5
Yeah, what Bridget said! Quite well, I might add.
I’m sure Lake Ridge’s PA neighbors were all broken up about losing that self-righteous and judgmental clan.
Thank you both kindly, Johnson and Emma - and thanks for posting the “1984″ quote.
George Orwell was a genius. Albeit, a socialist who hated the pretensions and fantasies of too many socialists - not to mention the slide socialism often took into the creation of a totalitarian state of affairs.

Chilling, really, to think of the amount of abuse that occurs because liberals are so bloody unconscious.
They take the worst elements of themselves and project, or cast it, onto others - a defence mechanism they are totaly unaware of. We see it so often from the left - the root of the victim mentality - They are victims and see everyone as a victim. Of course, that is why they regard conservatives as “fascists” while they dream up ways to expand their all-loving big brother keeper totalitarian state.
Had a moment yesterday morning while puttering around my front yard. Three campaign canvassers walked up the driveway and did what the last half dozen have done over the past month: After the initial smiles and “lovely weather we are having” type stuff, one of them looks down at a clip board and starts asking about the registered voters in my home…
Are they at home? Will they be voting ? Have you decided who to vote for? Who are you voting for?
My answer was ” I can’t see how the answers to any of those questions are any of your business.” Most of the time we simply exchange smiles and wave off with “take care” and have a “nice day”.
But yesterday’s Mr. Clip board scribbled something down and then said “If you are ashamed of your choice of candidates - I understand you not wanting to share.” !!!
And I said ” The last time a guy tried a line like that on me was in middle school and his goal was to get me to lift up my shirt. Didn’t work for either of you - and feel free to write that up in my permanent record.”
“No need to get confrontational” he replied. ” The next time I track you down at your abode and pepper you with uninvited personal questions - we’ll call it even.” was my answer.
His parting words were ” Well at least I don’t have anything to hide”
Okay, one more try at Phylum Democrata:

Tax my tuna. LOL
=^..^=
Had a great cartoon up ont he fridge - going back to the Kerry/Edwards campaign - a perplexed couple sitting in front of the TV - caption was of one of the candidates announcing:
“… and furthermore, I plan on taxing your taxes.”

Un-flipping-believable. No humility or class with those demoncrats. You kept your cool a lot better than I would have. What a bunch of brats!
Doug and Conrad:
The First Amendment is an individual right.
While not explicitly in the text of the First Amendment, look at Gitlow v. New York, 268 U.S. 652 (1925) with the Court stating: “…we may and do assume that freedom of speech and of the press - which are protected by the First Amendment from abridgment by Congress - are among the fundamental personal rights and ‘liberties’ protected by the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment from impairment by the States.”
Anon 17 Oct 2008 at 11:42 pm makes an interesting point.
And this from a man screaming “You people are ridiculous!”:
http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/2008/10/obamunist_beats.html
Sheesh. Guess I should count myself lucky … could have gotten slapped upside with a clip board for my non-cooperation and nocompliance.
Stepping on someone else’s property is wrong. . .theft is wrong. Having said that, it’s nice to see that irritating sign-making is a trait that crosses all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic levels in this area.
You left out hitting irritating sign makers with their signs is wrong.
And let’s face it … some signs go far beyond irritating and are just flat-out blasphemy:

I heard it took Palin 7 years to bet her degree! Should make for a good VP!
Well, she probably got it while working and being a mom, and an American. But, who, may I ask paid for Nobama’s degree? The Saudis????
She has more experience than your anti-Christ could hope to have!
Gosh, Anonymous, and here I have always thought that ANYONE could become President. I guess that only applies if you are inexperienced AND not white.
For all we know, it could have been a McCain-Palin Supporter who wanted a sign for themselves.
You might be on to something there, DV.
And for all we know, it could have been some crafty &astard McCain-Palin supporters disrupting this McCain-Palin motercade!!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2111101/posts
And I bet that NYC incident was a set up … street theatre to make the opposition look like scum!
To: yeah, right,
Actually Palin didn’t get married until 1988. Her graduation was in 1987 from the University of Idaho after a succession of transfers back and forth from 4 different institutions, only one of which was in Alaska. In fact her first college was in Hawaii. So no, she wasn’t a wife and mother while in college as you suggested. Unless you have some knowledge of children she had before she married.
She was being an American at the time, as you strangely mention, but then so was Barack Obama and a majority of other people in this country. You really believe Obama is the anti-Christ? Did you happen to have the same tenuous relationship to education as Mrs. Palin?
Grasping at straws.
I know a brilliant woman who spent eight years working on her bachelors degree - the first four years part-time in two separate Jr colleges, followed by four years spent in three different four year universities. Scholarship opportunities, jobs, an ailing family member and the chance to visit other parts of the country were some of her reasons for changing schools. She went on to earn her masters, followed by a PhD. Where oh where is it written that one must complete four years of college in four years at one single school?
Palin isn’t an Ivy League Lawyer and her life experiences count fo squat. But, by far, her biggest shortcoming and failure is that she is smart enough not to be a Marxist ideologue.
http://www.americanthinker.com/printpage/?url=http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/10/judging_who_is_smart.html
Just checking the facts ma’am. You are absolutely right. It is written nowhere what time it should take to complete an undergraduate degree or how many institutions should be attended. However, your brilliant friend who went on to get a Master’s and a Ph.D. doesn’t appear to have a lot in common with Palin.
The one thing we do know is that Palin’s winding voyage to her bachelor’s in communications-journalism had nothing to do with responsibilities as a wife or mother as yeah, right surmised for some unknown reason.
“Well, she probably got it while working and being a mom, and an American.”
Hey, Factchecker - I believe Yeah Right used the word “probably”….No need to beat a dead horse. Now we know, because you’re so brilliant, that she was not a mother yet. Big freakin’ deal. Move on.
Fair enough concrete4. But why the “probably”? Why not just check instead of making things up? And is Obama also just probably the anti-Christ as yeah, right calls him?

Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska
According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets. She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.
….and just what, again, is Obama’s experience? Oh, that’s right, he managed to vote “present” the majority of time he’s been in Washington…..
That’s gotta count for something, right?
a comprehensive list of obama issues - http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/21/the-comprehensive-argument-against-barack-obama/
“Oh, that’s right, he managed to vote “present” the majority of time he’s been in Washington…..”
The “present’ votes were in the Illinois State Senate.
It’s actually a pretty sensible mechanism. It bypasses the usual nonsensical back-and-forth where each party stuffs crazy stuff into important bills so that alter they can say “John McCain voted against the troops” or “Barack Obama voted for partial-birth abortions”. “John Smith voted present on the vote to euthanize the elderly’ doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.
Anyway, he didn’t do that “the majority of the time he’s been in Washington”. I’m sure that as an open-minded and informed voter you’ll appreciate the correction.
Who is the most vacuous person I’ve ever seen running for high office, much lighter than Dan Quayle ever was?
Answer : Sarah Palin.
Who is failing to deliver the women’s vote, and is mostly popular mostly just among committed conservatives, as a kind of bizarre right-wing sex symbol?
Answer : Sarah Palin.
Who embodies the shallowness and negativity of the GOP?
Answer : Sarah Palin.
A cute smile and great ability to project are not especially what I look for in a President. If Palin took office she would make George W Bush look capable. And inarguably, he has not been.
The current national dialogue is :
How would a McCain Presidency differ from Bush’s 8 years?
Obama is a terrorist.
Isn’t McCain’s stated commitment to de-regulation responsible in large part for the banking crisis? Would or will his philosophy change if elected?
Obama is a Muslim plant.
Is McCain capable of doing anything differently than Bush, to end our entanglement in Iraq? Or do we ever seek disentanglement - do we want out or want to stay in?
Obama hob-nobs with terrorists.
WTF does John McCain stand for? WTF does the Republican party stand for? Why would any conservative vote for such a shallow candidate and give the GOP validation of being in such a rudderless and corrupt state?
Obama hates America.
I definitely agree with all that pertains to Obama! Thanks!
[I thought this thread was about yard signs]
Talking to a ‘friend’ the day after Palins’ nomination at GOP convy, she referredto her an Effen ‘B’. When I asked her to explain her comment she denied saying it just moments before.
In both elections following the Clinton Fun Time legacy, when I expressed disappointment with the Democratic Party process [ totally flippant], I was attacked by packs of Liberal Left Wing Party Zombies screaming lies, half truths, and the Media fueled dribble of Factoids and DoubleTruthspeak.
Remember when the DNC announced one day that John Kerry could not carry their [facsist] party to the White House, and they threw all of their confidence behind Howard Dean. When Howard Dean had his Oral Diarrhea Meltdown, the very next day they replaced him with the retired vaudvilleian cardboard puppet John Kerry and the following year made Howard Dean the party chairman.
The truth is : If you do not vote for Barack Obama for president, YOU are a racist, intolerant, and un-Amerikkkan.
You must DEMAND tolerance, not practice it- just ask Nancy Pelosi and Hairy Reed.
Play the race card again to block, Mr. Obama.
THOSE WHO FORGET HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT…
i agree totally with what this person has done. my next-door neighbor had his sign stolen. so his kids handpainted another one. way to go kids!!! don’t let the bastards win!!!
