Borders, Predators and Prey

By Greg L | 23 October 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime | 5 Comments

The Washington Times editorial page discussed the outrageous story of how an illegal alien managed to engage in a thirteen month crime spree against elderly women between 63 and 92 years of age in Montgomery County, MD, invading their houses, robbing them of their possessions and then selling the stolen goods in a local pawn shop.  Much of the media steadfastly ignores crime by illegal aliens and the policy implications of these crimes, but at least there are a few out there to call foul on the industry and actually inform the public.

Every year newspapers log hundreds of stories about crimes committed by illegal immigrants, typically burying in paragraph 7, 8 or 13 the fact that “He is not a U.S. citizen” (as The Washington Post did in its story on Mr. Garcia-Perlera.) From reading these accounts, is, one might think the matter of immigration status is some trivial matter.

With the passage of the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration law in 1986, the border line was erased and every year since, Americans either visiting the border or looking at maps may wonder if anyone - the presidential candidates, the Border Patrol, the media, average citizens - will get angry enough or concerned enough to make an effort to draw it again.

The same liberal jurisdictions that sometimes actively try to subvert federal law enforcement — to the extent there actually is any federal enforcement of our immigration laws — are the ones often bearing the burden of crime by illegal aliens.  You’d think that after getting this object lesson on a regular basis it might begin to dawn on these folks that policies that encourage the unlawful presence of illegal aliens are self-destructive to a community and put our most vulnerable residents at risk.

Or maybe they need a few more lessons.  I hope not.  We have enough crime as it is without importing illegal aliens to add to the problem.

Montgomery County has much more important issues to deal with such as making sure businesses file their recycling plans on time. The place is a sneak preview of full-blown socialism. I don’t know why people want to live there and deal with that crap. There isn’t anything there worth leaving your own jurisdiction for.

CASA should be so proud. With the help of State and Federal funding, it’s advocates managed to help this guy fly under the radar for over a year.
