Connolly - Too Corrupt - Even for Congress

I am in Arizona - will be back in time to vote. Too bad I don’t live in the right district or I’d take much pleasure in voting against Connolly.

THe only good thing about 9/11 was seeing how politics was pushed aside and we were truly united. I guess I am a dreamer to think we could return to that at some point. Let’s put America ahead of this stupid party politicing. I don’t give a rat’s ass who was responsible for disenfranchising these people; let’s figure out how to make their votes count, regardless of who they are voting for.

The law in Virginia states that an absentee ballot that contains both a request for the ballot and the selection for office must have a witness signature *and* (thanks to Bolling’s law), the address of the witness. The Federal Absentee Write-In Ballot lacks the space for a witness address so some have not included it. That omission, under Bolling’s law, invalidates the ballot. For a blog that has been very clear about the ultimate rule of law superseding all else, it seems interesting to me that you actually appear willing to bend the law in some case. I thought the law was the law.

And, as of yesterday, Fairfax County had received fewer than 300 of the Federal Absentee Write-In Ballots (FWAB). Those are the only ballots impacted by this decision. It is not known at this point how many of the less than 300 don’t meet the requirements set forth in Virginia code. If this race is decided by fewer than 300 votes, then I’m sure there will be grounds for court action to have the rejected ballots counted (since there is a question of whether Federal law pre-empts State law in this case).

Finally, let’s look at who your “liberal voting official” is in this case. Robert R. Sparks is the Chair of the Electoral Board. By tradition, the Chair of the Electoral Board is usually selected from the party not in the Board Chair’s office. Looking at VPAP, Sparks has a history of supporting Republican Candidates (including $1,100 to Connolly’s opponent in 2003–Republican Mychele Brickner). Sparks has never contributed to a Democrat (at least according to the records I found).

So let’s see who’s really disenfranchising voters. It’s a law that was sponsored and pushed through the legislature by Bill Bolling (Republican) and is being enforced by the Fairfax County Electoral Board (headed by a Republican).

It is worthwhile to note that Lt Governor Bill Bolling introduced this Bill while a Senator in the GA. Neither he nor the GA bothered to take the necessary steps to update the law when changes were made by the Federal Government.

Perhaps all felt Federal trumped State - and there
was no need to revisit the law. None the less there is now a challenge and if Federal does trump state in this case, now would be a good time for Lt Gov Bolling to step up to the podium and make a statement.

If Bolling hides in the background and just one absentee military voter is denied the right to vote, I hope you will remember this when you vote. Bolling is running for re-election.
