Republicans Lose In Manassas Park
By Greg L | 4 November 2008 | Manassas Park | 7 Comments
While Peter Farrell won in Manassas Park, Brian Leeper did not. The cabal in Manassas Park continues, dependent on how Peter Farrell and Suhas Naddoni are willing to challenge the established political machine in the Park. If they do, the troubled jurisduction could sgnificantly improve.
Our prayers are with the new Council members as they embark on a difficult task. This is going to be a difficult mess to clean up.
The Republican Committee in Manassas Park has a lot of work to do. They might want to take a page from the Democrats and merge with the Manassas City Committee, since that clearly was the right move.

Sorry Brian.
Where are all of the election results?
What about the MP City treasurer?
I am disappointed in most of the results, but did not expect anything less.
Glad Feder lost and happy Frank Wolf won.
MP Election results here:

MP City Treasurer is still an elected position.
Sorry to hear that Brian was not victorious. I think he would have made a fine councilmen, and I hope he considers running again in the future. What makes you think the Manassas City GOP would want to merge with MP GOP? WIth MP moving local elections to the fall, that would mean an additional election cycle. Unlike the Dems this cycle, the GOP here has never benefitted from well-funded campaigns showering funds and people on the area. The GOP’s in the county, and both cities, rely exclusively on volunteers who actually live here. We have seen the effect of 90 to 120 days of paid staff hitting places like Georgetown South, Bristow Station, Point-of-Woods, Manassas Park East of rt 28. Voters who have never turned out, turn out.
Considering that the MP GOP has like 4-6 active members, combining the two committees would place further strain on the Manassas GOP, because thin resources would have to be spent covering both areas.
It would not be the first time that the GOP in the both the City and the County have helped Manassas Park GOP get started. When the MPGOP Committee was first organizing, I recall being sent by the County GOP to assist in that process, which worked out very well for many years. There’s nothing wrong with fellow GOP offering a hand and doing the same now. I thought that all Republicans were in this together.
“There’s nothing wrong with fellow GOP offering a hand and doing the same now.”
AWC,
No, there isn’t anything wrong with it. I am not against both the county and the city GOPs helping re-re-reestablish the Manassas Park GOP. No, not in the least. What I am against is the actual combining of the two city parties, under a single chairmanship. Perhaps there needs to be a better coordination or more focus at the level of the next higher common committee. Whether at the 10th congressional, 29th Sentatorial, or 50th house committee level.
On paper, it looks like the Dems benefitted from such a combination. However, there wasn’t an actual MP Democrat committee as far as I could tell, prior to the re-org. Also, I attribute their success during this cycle more to the 40 or so paid campaign workers that the Obama and Warner camps dumped into the area. I know this to be the case, as I had two visits from some fresh-faced college kids who had “taken a semester off to make a difference”. One particularly warm day, I chatted with them on my front porch for a good 20 minutes or so. I was playing the “independent who usually votes GOP, but is open to “change”. They pretty much told me everything. How many (35-40), paid by the two campaigns, full-time, here for the duration of the race. They were polished, enthusiastic, polite, and dedicated to wringing every single vote out of the area for their candidate. Oh, and almost every one of them was from outside the area.
While the local GOP committees relied totally on local volunteers, people who have jobs, families, etc. here which placed a limit on the time they could contribute, the democats had 40 people whose only job was to go door to door, registering new voters, hitting every single house in the two cities two and three times. Throw in the last minute influx of volunteers from DC and MD that blanketed the area during the final 72 hours, and there you find the answer to the electoral results. Turn-out, pure and simple.
I wonder what the MP comnittee would think about disolving and combining with either the county or Manassas GOP’s? Has anybody asked them?
I have cause for celebration.
The flop-house behind my house finally was vacated. I heard the commotion late at night (mid-nightish) and haven’t seen anybody there for about a week now. It’s been a week of not finding trash in my back yard. A week of my dog not getting antagonized by brats throwing rocks at him and teasing him (I have confronted them several times to no avail - I’m really good with kids too - not a curmudgeon). Those were really my only two issues with that particular flop-house, but those two issues grated on me.
Their back yard looks like a nuclear bomb went off in it, but
It. Is. Quiet.
Phew.
Only two flop-houses left in my immediate vicinity.
Mando - you should have called the police on the children mistreating your dog. I had a flophouse empty out right next door to me over the weekend and we had an ice cream party to celebrate.
Just one more illegal alien flophouse to go and my dogs will be able to use their doggy door once again…. it’s been four years that it has been shut down… 4 flophouses down…. 1 more to go…
