anon,

I would consider anyone who drafted an amendment to the constitution, the highest law in the land, a founding father. if you want to argue civics, name the time and place and we'll get together. I've always felt personal meetings are best. Let's see what a coward you really are!

again, you and your ilk play on semantics

go back home please, I wouldnt be surprised if you have to cross a border (or two) on your way

The two additional suspects in the Montgomery County, MD, bus killing by an MS-13 kid were just arrested in Houston, Texas, on board a public bus. How's that for irony? At least this pair didn't make it back to the border.

citizen12: That assertion that the 14th Amendment wasn’t ratified is one of those “fun fact” assertions that’s completely and utterly wrong, and serves only to make its advocates looks stupid.......

Honkey,

Not wrong at all. The record of how a corrupt reconstructionist legislature illegally "declaired" this ratified back in 1868 is a matter of both public and congressional record.

Here are just 2

perhaps with a greater understanding of the reconstruction, Andrew Johnson and the requirments of the southern states to rejoin the union you would not consider these "fun facts".

Apparently chicko thinks the "Founding Fathers" crafted the 14th amendment, an amendment written in 1866. It is lucky, one imagines, that chicko is American born and doesn't have to take any kind of civics test for citizenship.

AWCheney,

100% agree. Pick one. You're American or your not. I also *hate* the label latin-american that people place on me. I'm an American, plain and simple.

I have sworn an oath to this country in serving in our state militia and I swore to protect our nations secrets in my day job.

So, I don't see someone having to renounce thier secondary citizenship as gross, unfair, biased, or unconstitutional.

Besides, to me the logic is sound. Why *would* someone want to have a citizenship other than that of the USA? We are by far the best nation on this planet.

I have to agree with Anchor Baby, with one addition. When my parents (immigrants) became naturalized citizens, I automatically achieved dual citizenship and had until I was 21 to become a full citizen of the US by denouncing that dual citizenship. Of course the age of majority has dropped to 18 now, but I see no reason why these children should not be held to the same standard. If they refuse to denounce their dual citizenship, then they SHOULD lose the right for full citizenship...particularly the right to vote.

What do you think, Anchor Baby...does that sound logical and reasonable?

This Montgomery County story really needs a thread - they let an MS-13 member here illegally who they had on a weapons charge loose ... then he shoots up a bus and kills a teenager ... and by now his gang buddies have his safe and sound well out of the country.

Way to go Montgomery County ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/10/AR2008111001898.html

Ted,

Correct! the 14th applied to slaves. That's what the founding fathers intended it to apply to, not illegals. I shudder to think about what our founding fathers would think if we could transport them here today to see the mess that was created from the 14th's interpretation. They are probably rolling in their graves already.

I'm all for servicemen getting citizenship, they should go to the head of the line. If they have served us, then it's only fair we should serve them back in kind. American citizenship is important to me and should be to everyone else. It's the highest honor and should not be given away freely (i.e. no amnesty)

Johnson,

You said:

The idea of service to one’s country in return for certain privileges already exists. The G.I. Bill and VA loans, for example. A citizen does, indeed, take personal responsibility for the body politic. A civilian merely exisits within it, reaping the benefits without making any sacrifices. That is exactly what illegal aliens do; take advantage of our society’s generosity without any contribution on their part. Repeal the 14th amendment and stop cutting our own throats. Compulsory service as a path to citizenship. Only citizens should have the right to vote. We can no longer afford to be the World’s doormat. There are too many people and too few resources.

But, there are no requirements upon a citizen of this nation to serve in the military or to be employed by or volunteer for federal service. That's the point that I'm making - that with Heinlein there were two classes of people; citizens and non-citizens. Citizens had rights and privledges where as non-citizens were treated more like cattle.

I don't think that's where we want to take this nation.

Now, if your saying that military or federal service is a path for non-citizens to take in order to apply for citizenship. I'm all for that! Two of the salvadorian Marines that I've had the pleasure to work with obtained thier citizenship based on thier service. If you are willing to train, work for, and possibly sacrifice your life for a country that you are not even a citizen of - yes I believe you should be put to the front of the line and obtain citizenship. If thats the point your making, I agree with you.

If however your saying thats the ONLY path available to everyone - that I completely disagree with.

In terms of one comment that you made I agree with you that one of the reasons that illegals come into this country are because of the ample benefits that are provided to people. I believe that those programs should be eliminated entirely. If you eliminate the incentive for people to remain poor or to be poor and immigrate to this country you don't encourage illegal immigration. Welfare for citizens and non-citizens should be stopped.

Let's look at this issue in terms of supply and demand and tackle supply (eliminate social programs) so that demand is terminated.

The ORIGINAL purpose of the 14th Amendment was to ensure that former slaves and their children were given full citizenship, not to give citizenship to anyone whose mother happened to be in the U.S. at the time he/she was born.

Anyone who advocated giving citizenship to everyone born on U.S. territory would have been laughed out of Congress when the amendment was being considered.

Every single citizen of Montgomery County should be sure to thank Ike for spending money on illegal aliens instead of county services. This knuckehead should be in jail. Next, he'll be whining to be bailed out by the Feds!

Anchor Baby-

The idea of service to one's country in return for certain privileges already exists. The G.I. Bill and VA loans, for example. A citizen does, indeed, take personal responsibility for the body politic. A civilian merely exisits within it, reaping the benefits without making any sacrifices. That is exactly what illegal aliens do; take advantage of our society's generosity without any contribution on their part. Repeal the 14th amendment and stop cutting our own throats. Compulsory service as a path to citizenship. Only citizens should have the right to vote. We can no longer afford to be the World's doormat. There are too many people and too few resources.

This is insanity:

The problem is that no one gives a rat's a$$. If they did, the Department of Justice would be down their in a hearbeat investigating. I have heard from others that there are some Texas school systems that run school busses across the border to pick up illegal students and then bring them back after school. Isn't that NICE!

Just wait until this mass of uneducated and unskilled humanity estimated at 20 million plus is legalized. EVERYONE then will see what it will have cost this country and it's legal citizens. You think Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are hurting now, just wait. You ain't seen anything yet!
Their legalization will encourage MORE of theunskilled and uneducated to cross our borders. In 20 years we will have the same situation as we have now. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

and McCain was born in Panama.

and Reagan did an amnesty thing years ago.

and the illegal immigrant migration got into high gear during the past 8 years.

and many many emplorers took advantage of them, but reducing my earning wage.

and Obama and McCain did not differ by much on immigration

and we still do not have a border fence in place

Our leaders WANT illegal immigrants - it forms a base of cheap labor that can be exploited - just look at tysons foods, the meat plan out west, the home builders (we knew nothing, we outsourced). Our leaders do not want to stop it, as they are worried about what it might do to our economy.
