Wolverine,

A few years ago near Indonesia a submarine was on the surface heading into a port call about six hours out from the port and around midnight or so a "pirate" ship ordered the sub to stop and be boarded. The sub CO laughed and figured they were talking to someone else in the shipping lanes until bullets pinged off the HY80 steel common on most Navy subs. The OOD on the bridge opened up with the .50 machine gun and chased them away. The story goes that they put a spotlight on the sub and turned tail and hauled butt the other way. Good thing the Navy didn't have to waste a $800,000 torpedo on the pirate when a .50 caliber would do the trick.

It takes about an hour to weld an inch of HY80 steel in the shipyard. That's how tough it is.

THE BAD NEWS: 92 merchant ships attacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden thus far in 2008. The Gulf of Aden has become the modern Barbary Coast.

THE GOOD NEWS: The Indian Navy frigate INS Tabar just engaged pirates attacking an oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden, sank the pirates' "mother ship" and drive off the rest of the thieves.

Nice to see that somebody out there still has guts and brains! Go India!!!

Here's something unusual I ran across doing research. There really are some nuts out there.

"There is no doubt that the countless acts of property destruction in the passed week were committed by frustrated/pissed off queers. People are acting up on their own. We would rather fight than continue to support organizations and politicians that do not represent our vision of the Queerest world possible."

"A very short and incomplete list of recent strikes against homophobes:

Salt Lake City:

At least 8 Mormon Churches “Vandalized”

Layton/Ogden:

7 Mormon Churches had windows shot out with a BB Gun

San Diego:

Mormon Church Vandalized to shouts of, “Mormon Scum!”

Sacramento:

10 Mormon Churches have been “vandalized”

Colorado:

A Mormon Bible was burned and left on the steps of a church

Olympia:

Clandestine Bash Back! operatives glue locks and spray paint Mormon Church

Michigan:

Bash Back! disrupts Mt. Hope Church service

DC:

Radical Queers march without a permit to protest the g20 summit.

We hope that these events inspire each and every disenfranchised trans/queer person, and all oppressed people, to take power into their own hands."

SUP for Shooter’s Range was approved 7 for 1 opposed….Principi voted against it stating he isn’t opposed to shooting ranges just not at this location. I don’t believe that statement because of his line of “questioning” towards the applicant as well as other requiements he tried to make him agree to.

The peoples rights to carry remain in tact even though Principi tried to side step that one by making the applicant “promise” to work it into their rules not part of the SUP that you can’t carry into their establishment….that didn’t work.

Thank you Corey Stewart for looking out for our rights bear arms and looking out for a businessman that was being strong armed at the hands of Principi. Thank you to Maureen Caddigan for enthusiastically jumping in to bring the motion forward as well as offering to be there for a ribbon cutting when Principi said he was voting against it. Thank you to the rest of the BOCS who voted for this establishment.

Buckeye, quit rubbing it in! So we didn't do so good this year. So we dropped one to Northwestern last week. So even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile. You just wait until Rodriguez starts recruiting all those Ohio high schoolers again and learns 'em how to operate a wide-open offense. You are going to start seeing some red and silver end-of-year huffing and puffing in Columbus like you've never seen before. OSU might have to put Division III schools on their schedule just so they don't blow all their wind before they have to face real men once again. And, ahem, might I just mention the last few January bowl games for the red and silver with those silly-looking stickers all over their helmets? Might I mention which was the last team to beat Florida, huh, huh?

Big gun show at the Dulles Expo this Friday, Sat, and Sunday. $12 entry fee.

My recommendations: A Yugoslavian SKS (cheap Commie carbine) and a thousand rounds in the event of social chaos and something in a 9mm, .40, .45, or even a 10mm depending on how it feels to you for close work. But Muttley's point about shooting thru your neighbors' walls is well taken.

If anyone knows where I can get 10 ga shotgun ammo, please advise.

I agree with Anonguy concerning the causes for our current economic travails. We can pile on old George W. Bush as much as we want; but there are an awful lot of citizens and non-citizens in this country who, if they want to identify all the culprits, ought to start looking in the mirror. Even if not all of us were active participants in this mess, too many just stood by while the politicians and Wall Street people played self-profiting games with our money.

I have always thought that having a revolver handy is a good home use weapon (no safety). Unfortunately, nothing can beat a Winchester Defender with 00-buck or bird-shot as even a 9MM will penetrate these thin walls of today's homes and end up in your neighbors house. A 357 Magnum is nice, but after 1 shot without hearing protection, it will leave you deaf (not to mention setting off the smoke detectors - which you won't be able to hear anyway).

Now they can use the Fairfax County verification method: "hmmm, looks good to me." But that only applies to contracts over $100,000. Below that you can copy anything and put it in the field - even make up a SSN if they want without worry now that these contracts are exempt from Raids, Sanctions, or Fines.

Advocator, it looks like you've been doing it all worng - you have to go with the flow. We're going into a new Adminstration with different "rules." If it feels good, do it! Just dont' make more than $250,000 a year.

I provided the PWC BOCS with a draft resolution on contracting over a year ago. It mirrored the original federal requirements: 100% verification of the workforce with e-verify, as well as certification to the legality of any principles residing with the US. I can get no answer regarding its status. I imagine Stephen Fuller counseled against it, since he would have a stake in insuring illegal aliens continue to work on government contracts.

It's my understanding that neither state nor county contractors have ever had to verify their workforces with e-verify. The only requirement is that they not "knowingly" hire illegals. That's an unenforceable requirement.

Greg, maybe it would be a good idea to start a new thread of possible small business opportunities that would meet the criteria for Federal Contract approval.

Surely some of the regulars on this forum know the basics of Federal Contracts and would be willing to offer a crash course.

If HSA waives hiring requirements for Federal contracts, state or county contracts will no doublt also be "safe" - so maybe the list could be expanded to include county and state contracts.

No, not really, I am however surprised that American citizens are so non-chalant. These are their jobs that are on the line. Apparently, it is not a concern - even among the unemployed.

Or maybe Americans have just given up and accepted that some 25M + illegal aliens will be legalized and enter the work force. If Americans don't care, than I guess I'm just spitting into the wind.

It's been said that when the American Economy does a slow down (or nose dive) that's when Americans step up to the plate and we see the number of small businesses surge.

Instead of fighting this, maybe it's time to jump into the game. Bidding on Federal Contracts less than $100,000, we can bill at American Citizen wages, hire illegal aliens at half the hourly rate, and take advantage of the windfall profits - all without any risk of raid, sanction or fine.

This may be the wave of the future. Adapt or sink!

It’s been said that when the American Economy does a slow down (or nose dive) that’s when Americans step up to the plate and we see the number of small businesses surge.

Instead of fighting this, maybe it’s time to jump into the game. Bidding on Federal Contracts less than $100,000, we can bill at American Citizen wages, hire illegal aliens at half the hourly rate, and take advantage of the windfall profits - all without any risk of raid, sanction or fine.

This may be the wave of the future. Adapt or sink!

Are you surprised by the HS decision. HS will do the minimum and tell you it is doing the maximum. WHAT A FARSE!

Did anyone read the Prince William Extra article today about the Old Town revitalization effort? I have to wonder why some of the $670,000 in public funds is being used to extend the sidewalk in in front of Okra's and Carnello's 13 feet to allow them to offer outdoor dining. I don't get the impression these businesses have to contribute anything to this effort except their usually mediocre food. Am I reading this wrong, or is this yet more old-boy network favoritism?

I remember when dining at Carmello's used to be an elegant evening event. Now it's no better than your average family restaurant--noisy, rushed and the food quality is inconsistent for the price. Why are we paying to expand their business? Perhaps I'm missing something here.

I open/conceal carry a .40 and depending on the where I'm shopping/travelling to I also carry a 9mm in an ankle holster.

The .40 provides with more than sufficient stopping power in a defensive situation. If things get so bad that I have to fall back to my backup gun than I hope someone's already called the police because the stuff has already hit the fan.

The 9mm provides more ammo vs. stopping power. It's good for police officers where you might not want to kill your target but have enough ammo to last the encounter.

Besides, many studies have shown that citizens using firearms are more accurate with shot placement than civilian law enforcement.

My view: .40 or .45 for defensive open/concealed carry (the .45 is slightly harder to conceal). A 9mm is 'fine' but I don't think you'll expand that many rounds in a defensive situation.
