To Opinion...
I get the math you are talking about in reference to the tax code and how keeping the illegals out of the tax system could actually SAVE money IF they're making so little money. Ok...that makes sense. I just don't understand how these people who are making so little money are driving around in Lincoln Navigators, H2s, etc. I can't tell you how many time I see them parked outside of the Dept. of Social Services and 9 out of 10 times..they're driven by someone of "foreign descent" (we'll call it) who is applying for OR already receiving assistance. Help me work that out cuz my calculator keeps malfunctioning on that one...or else help me figure out how I can pull it off too. There is a family near me who I THINK are illegal. They are being housed by their employer (i.e., he's the landlord). There are only 2 adults but they own like 4-5 vehicles which the combined value would be around $145,000.00 worth of cars. By the way, if one suspects that they ARE illegal...how does one go about reporting them (and the employer)? Who do I report to who will actually investigate the situation? I know of one employer in the Gainesville are who had several illegals working as door installers. An ex-employee's gf who supposedly worked for immigration reported them. To this day...nothing has ever happened. Just curious as to how it's done....right!!
Merry Christmas!!

Anonymous, I don’t get your continued attacks on Ebert who has sent more people to death row than any prosecutor in VA and possibly in the US.

Remember the Bobbits? He brought charges and prosecuted the two seperate cases and lost both of them. How can that be?

A PWC Resident, how can I be held responsible for an article I haven't even read, and then attacked on the basis of that article? Does that make any sense at all?

Greg, I don't care about the politics of this at this point. I am so glad to find out that you would agree with turning the devastating event of a mother and a son murdered into an attack about Principi. There is a matter of class and appropriateness. Sometimes, you have to put aside petty political arguments.

But, perhaps if you feel that no matter what he might have said, it is okay, then I hope people see what you stand for. Want to quote a bible verse to justify it? Maybe it is, "life means nothing as long as you get your point across."

I am probably more conservative than most about many issues, but it was just surreal to be seeing a politcal hack job like that. So support all you want and people will know how you feel.

I haven't seen it. I just got into town in the Syracuse, NY for a Christmas visit and am just now giving a cursory check to the comment threads and my inbox. I'd suspect that if Chris Royse wrote it, I'd agree with it, though. What he says might often make some folks mighty uncomfortable, but he's pretty much been spot on in what he's been saying.

I got a real soft spot for Barry Goldwater types that don't mind pulling out the flamethrower once in a while. They're my kind of people.

Dang, I ought to invite Royse as a contributor. He's wasting his time writing letters to the MJM/News & Messenger, who only recently came to the conclusion that the rule of law is sacrosanct, but will undoubtedly start shilling for poor illegal aliens in short order.

Hey, deficit is spelled with "i" in the second syllable. And by the way, tell Mr. Royce that his post about the death of two good people was noticed by many people in the community. Turning a community tragedy into a political statement was rank. GOOD JOB.

Greg, I sure hope you didn't agree with his post on insidenova.com about the deaths in the Smith families and trying to make a statement the second amendment and Principi. It showed Royce's colors as far as many were concerned.

If somebody wants a job bad enough, they will do whatever is necessary to get one. The illegals move around with the available job market, don't they?

http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/virginia/dp-va--kainesbigyear1219dec19,0,2918320.story

Tim Kaine wants to increase the tax on tobacco because of the "burden that smokers place on the health care system". I wonder how much money Virginia could save if we passed some legislation making it impossible for illegal aliens to work or live here? How much of a burden are they on our health, welfare and educational systems? Being PC is becoming too pricey, folks.

Obama is going to take care of the problem with illegal aliens. He is going to make them legal. Have heard from sources that they (illeglas) are moving back into PWC and school enrolement is increasing once again. The resolution really too care of the problem, didn't it? (sarcasim)

Just curious... I looked at the tax code and did a little math. The people accepting the low paying jobs we are talking about really wouldn't end up paying taxes anyway. In fact, they would probably end up with an "earned income credit" and actually receive a payment from the Federal Government. A legal resident who files an income tax return on low wages and claims an earned income credit actually COSTS us money. Likewise, people who don't pay Social Security taxes don't create the credits necessary to participate in that system either (while a legal resident woule participate and actually COST us money). So... it would appear that illegal immigrants might actually save the Federal Government money by not participating in our tax system.

The point about unscrupulous employers paying cash and avoiding taxes still stands, but that's a different problem.

This isn't a post supporting illegal immigration or proposing that it is better to deny legal residents jobs in favor of illegal immigrants (it isn't), its a post asking a question about the logic of the tax arguement. So, what am I missing here?

and can we throw in the cash paying system - I will pay cash to get a discount!.

When paying cash for a project to a contractor, usually (but not always) this cash does not make it onto the books, thus, no taxes are paid on that money. And this is the empoyer. There are many illegal immigrants that DO pay taxes - it is the employer that does not.

I agree that getting rid of the 300,000 illegals would help the unemployment situation. But how many of those 180k are co-located with the 300k who are taking the jobs? People in Petersburg, Norfolk, and especially SW Va can't necessarily move to where the jobs are.
